Excellent salon and I love my stylist but this place is too expensive for me now. It was reasonable before and while it was not cheap -- it was manageable. Over the years the price crept up close to 200 for a cut, root touchup and a few foils. The last time I went it was 228 and I was shocked. But I didn't say anything. I was gone for a two months and when I came back-- this time it was 273. I don't normally ask for details on why so high. I'm sorry to say I will have to look elsewhere. read more

Been going to this salon location since the first owner's opening..Marianne Christopher. There have been a couple new owners through the years. Nicholas Sebastian is by far THE BEST! The entire staff is great ; from when you enter the door: front desk, the shampoo gals, the stylists etc. Professional and friendly. My last stylist, Brooke, left to pursue other things so I've been booking with other stylists. Last appointment I was unable to book with most of the stylists that I know ; it was a last minute appointment. I was able to get an appointment with a stylist that I never saw before. Macy! She was amazing. Easy to talk to and knew Exactly what I wanted and did it. I usually have difficulty doing my hair when I get back home, but not that time. The cut was perfect. Nicholas Sebastian is busy for a reason! Visited Nicholas Sebastian and was impressed by the interior. Absolutely gorgeous salon. A little overwhelming because every salon chair was filled when they had just opened! Stylists were kind, welcoming, and accommodating! Brooke is very talented and knows her craft :) she and her assistant, Kale, truly went out of their way to make it a fun and comfortable experience. I've been going to this salon for years. There's nothing bad about them but also nothing that stands out as amazing. Was slightly annoyed during COVID that they never called to cancel my appointment. I assumed they were closed in late May but they could of at least called to let me know. The employees are all very nice and happy here. The building is easy to get to and parking is everywhere. It's clean and they offer wine and cookies. The pricing is reasonable but weird. I was charged a different amount each time I went in for the same service with the same person. They frequently had me waiting to get my hair washed cause they were full. And I never got reminders of my appointments even though I asked for them multiple times. Overall, 3 solid stars. read more

I have been going to this salon for ten years. Twice I attempted trying new salons closer to me when I lived in Baltimore and now that I live in Philadelphia - and they all paled in comparison! The other places I tried were overpriced for not a great cut and awful color. I literally drove 2 hours from Baltimore to get my hair cut at Nicholas Sebastian. I love it there - super clean (even during COVID-19 - definitely felt safe), making appointments is always easy when I give them a call, and every staff member I've ever interacted with is super nice and helpful. Of course I would recommend my stylist Ashley R. but I have had a few other stylists there when Ashley was out and they were all similarly excellent. I get excessive complements on my hair after every cut and/or color. I recommended many friends to the salon and my stylist and those friends have now made Nicholas Sebastian their go-to salon. I went in for a consultation about two weeks before my appointment and Brooke told me that it would only take the one session to get my hair from how it was to exactly what I wanted or really close. I was thrilled because I had been wanting the color for months. When I got there that day Brooke told me her and her friend Lexi would be doing my hair, I would've liked to know ahead of time but things happen I just figured it was because I have a lot of hair, I took pics before and every step along the way, excited and posting them to snapchat. After every step they told me they couldn't believe how well my hair was cooperating and that it's going to turn out better than expected. The final stage comes around and I was asking questions just wanting to make sure it was going to turn out right. My stylist said everything would turn out exactly how I wanted and then five minutes later started going in with more color which was later revealed she did so because I asked about the darkness and decided to lighten it for me. In this last step as I was dying my hair they were saying how much I would love it and they hoped I have better reactions then their other customers because when asked if they liked it they wouldn't really give a happy reaction more of just a "yeah it's good" instead of saying if they liked it, which should of been a red flag to me but I just didn't think anything of it. After sitting in a chair for six hours, with my hair with what felt like a 10 lb anchor made of the dye, it was time for the reveal and it was awful. It was so bad I literally did not leave my house without a hat or a French braid or really anything hat would hide the color. They asked how I liked it and I said it was not what I came in for it looked nothing like how I wanted it to and I even pulled out the picture and the second stylist said "that's what we were going for?" Which was a big red flag. They offered to put more dye in but at this point it was a little past 11 o'clock at night and I was tired and told them I just wanted to pay go home and go to sleep that I would come back but for that night I couldn't sit through anymore. This was taken as I was "fed up" and "unappreciative." As I walked to the counter to pay the front door was opened for me and I was asked to leave, after asking to pay for the work 3 times I was still told no. I got in my car and simply posted to Facebook how I should've listened to my dad and just not messed with my hair. Never mentioned who did it or where I went. The next morning I wake up to messages from her friend in my inbox calling me a c*nt and a selfish B*tch because I bashed the girl as an artist by doing so. I go to the artist I scheduled an appointment with to message her and apologize if she took it the wrong way and see that she has posted about me as a client, saying again how I was unappreciative that she came in on her day off and had to get a babysitter (which I had no knowledge of, she told me what day to schedule the appointment and what time because she had more time to work with me that day) then went on saying how the color I wanted takes time that I should've known what I was getting (even though I'm not a hairstylist and would've been willing to work with her so I could eventually leave with what I wanted) and that she didn't even make me pay and I should've been thankful. I decided to message her anyway and tell her I'm sorry if she took what I said as bashing and I would've felt bad if I didn't see what she posted about me. She then told me how it was her fault she should've known I wasn't ready, and that I would be uncooperative that me asking questions was me second guessing everything, when in fact I was really excited to get my hair dyed and I asked questions when I was sitting in silence because six hours with out really being able to do too much really isn't fun. She kept saying how I was unappreciative and I should be thankful even though it wasn't what I wanted, basically telling me that I'm a bad client overall. So I then decided to go to Facebook again to tell about the service and post what I received. I got a message asking to take the pictures down because they were damaging to her career. Funny how it went from a style that I could leave my house with to the pictures damaging her career. I then got multiple apologies and her saying she would be happy to fix it and was wondering why the mood of the conversation changed and it wasn't until I got a message from her same friend that called me names again telling me how selfish I was and that her boss saw the post. I wasn't going to post because I thought it was just my experience but my friend went to her stylist who she is recommending me to and told her the situation. I got a text asking where I went and told her then another one asking who I went to before I could reply she asked if the girls were Brooke and Lexi. Turns out she gets a lot of their customers coming to her to fix their hair as well. read more

I asked if they could fit me in for a haircut last minute and they were able to fit me in within 15 minutes. Website says that they always welcome walk-ins but that is not the case. I walked in and was told that the staff was booked with scheduled appointments. If they have an opening they will allow a walk-in but they don't have anyone scheduled specifically for walk-ins. Rather frustrating. read more

I come to NS to get my legs waxed by the best leg waxer in the tristate area. SHANNON!!! I've been coming to her for years and I can tell u from someone who's been getting their legs waxed for over 25 years there is no one better. I've had the unfortunate experience of having to go to other salons for my leg wax because I waited too long to make my appointment. Other esthetician's don't get all the hair EVER! It's a bummer when you notice a patch of leg hair a day after you left the salon and need smooth legs to wear a dress or even worse you notice it in a bathing suit on the beach! UGH how totally unattractive!! Shannon provides a pleasant environment. Shannon is a Master at her craft. A leg wax can be a little personal and trust me when I tell you that you just don't want any old someone that close to private body parts. NS is a beautiful full service salon. The waxing room is tranquil & relaxing. I've also had facials and bought a package for 3 hydra facials and I can just tell you TRY IT!! They are painless and you will see a difference the next morning. NS has a terrific front desk team always ready and willing to assist you in making appointments, changing appointments and answering any questions always with a friendly genuine smile. NS is clean with plenty of convenient parking. They have evening hours for day workers & parents who can't get out until later in the day. So So Awesome!! First , I can't say enough about the people who work there. Most of them are very friendly and very accommodating and make you feel welcome. Dana, shampoos, is the sweetest person ever. My problem is that I just can't get a good color there. Had color with highlights....but was unhappy with the color . It was redone , for which I am EXTREMELY thankful, however, my highlights are gone, gone, gone. Base is much better, but the highlights which i paid for and wanted, are gone. I just don't understand. I would think color is part of what a salon does. Been going there for as long as the shop location has been there, but lately thinking I need to move on. Sorry to say. I really don't write reviews here on yelp, but after my experience at the Nicholas Sebastian Hair Salon with Holly, I feel that other potential customers need to be forewarned. As personable as Holly was, she was not very forthcoming with her "add on" charges. I went in for a single process ($35) and a chemical treatment ($15) and, at no point in time did Holly tell me whether I wanted a "glaze" on top of my single process. At the end, while my hair was dripping wet (mind you, blow out was not included)--I forked over $115?!!? The charges? $35 (single process)+$20(additional color)+$20 (glaze)+$20 (additional glaze)+$20 (chemical treatment). Are you kidding me? When I went home with my drenched hair...I noticed that my scalp is dyed black and my neck is still black. After hours of scrubbing and my hair was dry- I noticed that my hair was still not completely dyed black--come'on, how hard is that, when I went in to dye my hair black?!?!. I feel that Holly was very unethical by not being upfront with her charges, and adding the glaze charge- when in the first place, I WOULD NOT want a glaze to further dry out my hair. I am completely disgusted by her dishonesty and lack of professionalism. I deserve my money back! read more

I have a problem giving this salon even 1 star. Although I was very pleased with my color, I was not pleased at all for paying an extra $20 for the service. No where on the website does it explain that if a "senior stylist" is involved in the service, the price is subject to change. Since I only had color applied to my hair with no hair cut, I was quite surprised at the register to be told that my bill was $78. The color application by the senior stylist was $55 and the blo dry was $23, which by the way, if I'd have known I would be charged extra for the color, I would have left with wet hair. But I think my real problem about all this is how I was treated when I questioned the bill and told the girl what is posted on the website. She wasn't in the least bit eager to offer any sort of compensation to me as being a mislead client. Needless to say, I will be telling everyone I know to be aware of the bait and switch tactics going on at Nicholas Sebastian Salon. Just another fancy schamcy big number salon and not really caring about good business or customers. read more
