She was a true professional right from the start, introducing herself and calling us by name the moment you arrive at her quaint but classy studio. From the start, she handled the parents, laying down the expectations and the process of getting some keepsake photos of our baby girl and asking us for any desires or input for the shoot. We love our final product! Her naturalistic style is gorgeous! We're happy it wasn't hoaky like some other photographer's albums we've seen... However, that was much easier said than done since our style preference contrasts quite a bit (I preferred light and bright while he preferred moody and earthy). Her photography was not only the first and only one we'd ever agreed on but her style and artistry immediately captured both our attentions. It was breathtakingly beautiful how she utilizes light and manipulates in a way that cannot be described and the way she can capture the candid almost-raw moments in a couple. We saw couples come to life in her photos and knew we had to have her capture our special day. Nicola photographed both our engagement and wedding day photos and was a nice calm energy to have around in such a chaotic environment. For a couple with quite a bit of anxiety when it comes to photography, she captured the two of us in the most natural manner and we were astonished with the end product. Recently I had some newborn photos done by Julia Bender Photography. I knew I was going to choose…read moreher for these photos since mid-pregnancy. Julie comes to your home (or location I suppose) and shoots real people using "natural light". You look like you, but softer and nicer. There's nothing gimmicky or staged about her work and after looking at a million photos on Pinterest, I decided that's exactly what I wanted. You can get cheaper shots done at JCP or the like, but people always look a little pastey and you only have a 15 minute window, so you'd better hope your little one isn't crying (for all new moms out there-- that's all infants do). You can also get much pricer photographers, if you're a Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes kind of couple and that's important to you. But I figure, kids change fast and I'll need her to do this annually. For that kind of budget, she's the right pick. It was easy enough to get ahold of her to book the appointment and she was flexible with her dates and times. Fast forward to day of: the little rascal was a crying mess, but Julia wasn't fazed, she was willing to stay as long as it took to get the photos we wanted. Admittedly, baby, husband and I were tired before she was...I probably should have waited until he was a few weeks older to do this. Nevertheless, we shot in different rooms of the house and I didn't feel rushed at all. You can choose a sitting fee (which is comparable to professional photographer' stuido fees, but less than their "on site" fees) and then buy photos a la carte (which is what I did) or you can purchase packages where you will own the rights to the digital prints (prolific facebookers will love these options). Also, I saved 10% for paying the sitting fee in cash. I used it toward the purchase of prints. Full disclosure: I know Julia's husband through work circles and that's how I discovered her work.
