I'm actually writing this review for Joe Duarte Field, but since it doesn't appear on Yelp, I'm…read moreposting it under Doc Oliver Field because it sits right next to it within William Land Park. We recently used the Duarte field area for track and field practice with my daughter's school, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. The grass is fairly even, which makes a big difference when kids are running drills, and there's a nice amount of shade around the field. Parking was also easy, which is always a bonus when you're arriving with a group after school. We went on a Monday right after school, and it was pretty quiet when we first arrived. By the time we were leaving around 5:00 PM, the baseball fields around the park were definitely filling up with teams starting their practices, so it's clearly a popular spot for youth sports. One of the things I really like about this area of the park is that there's a running path that loops around the whole park, so it's a great place to run or walk while practices are going on. And because you're right next to the Sacramento Zoo, every once in a while you can actually hear the animals. It's a pretty fun and unexpected little background soundtrack while you're out there. Helpful tip: If you want a quieter experience, earlier in the afternoon is best. By late afternoon the baseball fields start filling up with team practices. Between the open field space, shade, easy parking, and the path around the park, it's a really great place for practices or just getting outside for a run. And the occasional zoo sounds definitely make it memorable.

That's exactly a large part of what it is used for today and the reason why I go down. Watching my son play on this well-maintained field in a massive, one-of-a-kind park is just one of the many reasons why I love Sacramento. There are a number of fields in this complex, so I suppose this review goes for most of them. They all have dugouts and backstops and clearly marked fields with a combination of dirt and grass. I won't say they are the best maintained, but they do the job when it comes to youth sports. Another plus is that most of the area is well-shaded by massive old trees during the summer months. So as a fan, you can enjoy your little person as they enjoy the game and do so from the comfort of bleachers in a nice shaded area.

It is over 32 acres of land including basketball and tennis courts, soccer field, lake and the Rose Garden, which was created in 1928. The roses are beautifuly in bloom perfectly for June. The bulbs were big, bright, full of color and fragrance. I loved walking along the paths and seating at the multiple wooden benches inside and around the perimeter of the garden. With over 1,200 roses bushes in full bloom, I did not encounter any bees, there was not a lot of people and there was plenty of shade and picture taking opportunities. It was the perfect horticulture hideaway to spend my day.

I ran here today and not much has changed-which is good. I was still able to complete my usual route, but it is always hard to get back into running after more than half a year of non running. There's also one basketball court, 2 tennis courts, 1 baseball field and lots of grass areas for groups to play sports. Overall, a good park with lots of activity and generally safe. I can't wait to come back more when the weather warms up.

If you happen to reside or just happen to visit Midtown Sacramento frequently and have a passion…read morefor a nice quiet park, then "Grant Park" just might be what you're looking for. Located directly on C St. and in between 21st & 22nd St's in the New Era Park neighborhood of Sacramento, this has been one of my favorite quiet parks in the area. On any given day, even on beautiful weekend days where the temperature is cooperative, this has always been a sleepy park. At times you will find kids playing soccer, softball/baseball, or other sporting activities. And then you will also get the typical families picnicking, sunbathing, and sometimes even barbecuing. But it has never been super busy like what you'd see at Fremont Park or Southside Park. The grassy area is green year-round (for the most part) and has enough space for people to play with their dogs. You will find a picnic area with three tables and most of the time, these tables are usually always available. For the kids and toddlers, there is a fenced-in tot lot with a small sand area. And additionally, you will find multiple trash bins available. Unfortunately, after the city faced budget cuts with several public parks back in the early 2010's, both the mens & womens restrooms have been closed. So if you need to go, you're pretty much out of luck. Now one thing that might deter people from coming here is that you will sometimes get questionable-looking people around here. Meaning that from time to time, there are vagrants and homeless people that sometimes sleep in or around the park. I have personally never had an issue and their presence has never made me feel uncomfortable visiting this park. And I have to respect that they are human beings just like you or I. Overall, Grant Park is a nice little park in a very quiet area of north Midtown Sacramento. Additionally, its close to the entrance of the American River Bike Trail and only a few blocks away from the Blue Diamond Almond Factory. Parking is easily accessible on any given day and its a place I enjoy to spend my lazy spring & summer days.

It's between 59th and 61st St going east and west and between 8th and 11th Ave going north and south, and it is almost 18 acres big according to the City's website. There are soccer fields, a baseball diamond, a full basketball court, a smaller but adequate kids playground, 2 actually, one bigger, and one for smaller kids. In the summer time, the swimming pools will be open, so that's a great facility for hot weather fun. There is also a big gazebo with tables and seating on the side closest to where we saw kids playing soccer. We hung out closer to the picnic table area since we were grilling up some burgers and hotdogs, and there were several picnic tables to sit at and plenty of room. Although that area isn't very shaded. Our church reserved the tables, but it wasn't at the gazebo so it was a bit hotter where we were picnicking, but since it was so windy that day, it wasn't hot at all. It was the perfect day for flying kites so the kids did that for quite some time. Super fun for them to try to figure out how to get the kites to catch the wind and keep afloat. There's a set of bathrooms near the playground but I didn't use them so I don't know if they were clean or not. All in all, this is a nice park that I've just never been to, guess I keep frequenting the same ones that are familiar to me, but this is an underrated park and it's in a safe residential area, so it's a great place for a BBQ or a picnic or a party. I'm sure we'll be back.

Tahoe Park is one of our favorite places to visit!…read more We've lived in the area for almost six years now, and we absolutely love coming here. In the summer, they host food trucks on the last Friday of the month, which is always a treat. The park has lots of shady areas, two playgrounds (one for bigger kids and a smaller one for toddlers), and a track for walking or running. You'll also find fields for soccer, volleyball, and baseball, plus BBQ areas you can reserve. The neighborhood is safe and very family-friendly. One of the best parts is the public swimming pool that opens during the summer. They charge $3 or $4 per person, which is very reasonable. Just a heads-up--this year, they're only accepting cash at the pool. It would be helpful if they posted a sign in the parking lot to let families know. I've seen a few frustrated parents who had to unload all the kids and gear, only to find out inside that they couldn't pay with card. Despite that hiccup, it's a wonderful park for families and we're grateful to have it nearby!
