Blew me away on the first bite. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro, the meat gave me a burst of flavor. The sauce was a bit too lemony yet needed more garlic, however it was good with the sandwich. Along with the sandwich, I got fries and fried okra. The okra was a smash hit!! The fries were dry. I don't eat ketchup so I couldn't finish them. I'm going to savor the okra. If you are looking for fast food Greek at an iconic location, then Nick's is your place. I got here right at opening and ordered the Gyro (Yee-ro) and fries. It came out within 6 minutes and the meet was juicy and just the right amount. The fries were standard but rightly seasoned and nice and hot. Highly recommend this place. New favorite Greek spot! Insanely delicious gyro meat and tzatziki sauce. So flavorful

Tried this place a few days ago. Did a to go order. I was starving. I ordered a lamb gyro combo no lettuce, 2 falafel balls, a cookie, and my mom a lamb gyro. I'm from Chicago, and got excited when I was driving and saw what looked to be an authentic Greek restaurant. In Chicago, authentic Greek food is everywhere. I stepped inside the little shack and was happy to see Greek offerings such as baklava, spanakopita, savokli. I just knew the food was going to be fye! I needed a second to look at the menu. Primarily because I wanted to try everything! Lol I placed my order. The cashier seemed a little annoyed. I assumed it was the weather. It was low 90s and appear to be no AC. Got the food. Ate everything except the gyro on the way home. The cookie was ok. I'll pass on it next time. The falafels were ok. I'll also not get them again. Fries were averag, freshly made. That I loved. When I ate the gyro later, I saw it was rather smaller than what I'm accustomed to In Chicago. However, it was tasty, but missing onion. I'd definitely go back. I'd get the gyro again, but emphasize the onion. I also want to try the other menu items too. Can't wait to try the baklava and spanakopita! Visit Date: Oct. 29, 2024: I wouldn't have checked this place out if it weren't for my local friend in Atlanta since this place is a little tucked away in a little corner of the city. But I'm happy to report that this place is the bomb when it comes to their gyro! First things first, like the name of the place suggests, this place only does to-go food. Order in the little counter room, wait for your name to be called outside, and you pick up your meal at the window. Simple! And for those that no longer carry cash (me), I'm happy to share they Nick's finally accepts Tap to Pay / credit cards! Small detail but it's enough to have ruined someone's trip if they didn't have cash back then. Now let's get onto the food and service. Staff was fine and the food took a little time being prepared. But after taking my first bite, I realized that it was worth the wait! The lamb was flavorful, not too salty, ingredients were fresh, and the wrap had the right amount of fluffiness to it but still retained its crispness on the outside edges. Love this place. Been here maybe five times since coming to ATL in 2020. Would get here more, but I'm rarely downtown on a weekday, and this place isn't open on weekends. It's mainly to-go, couple tables outside with maybe 10 parking spots (recently paved). You used to order outside, but now you can order inside. They take cards, ApplePay, Wallet etc., but there's a $10 minimum for non-cash. Any combo will get you past that threshold. I've only ever gotten the lamb gyro with fries. Someday I'll try something else, but I like that gyro too much. Meaty, fresh vegetables and a sauce that's just right (not heavy or too runny). The Halal lamb is seared with almost a crust on the outside. Fresh and healthy and not greasy--I don't like those things, and I would not come here repeatedly if that was the case. read more

Finally made the trek down to Nick's! We came about 30 mins before closing (they close at 7pm). There is a small lot for free parking, but it is small and people will EASILY block you in. Beware! By the time we got there, there was a line and we waited maybe 10 mins before being able to order. They notified us when we got up to the counter that lamb was sold out and I was devastated. As I waited, I settled for the chicken gyro and a large fry. For orders under $10, they do not accept credit cards. After ordering, you wait outside and pickup your order from the window. We waited about 15 mins before getting our food. There are 2 picnic tables outside but the move is to definitely take it somewhere else. The fries were really yums and so hot, but I felt like the large wasn't very large. The large was smaller than the small chickfila fry size. The chicken gyro was sauced up and the pita was soft and supple. I wish there was a bit more protein, but for the price it was okay. I wish I got to try the lamb, but I'll be back earlier to try it! read more

Nick's sits on a precarious corner of MLK end Hill Street. It's not pretty. I arrived before opening hour at around 11:15am and wasn't the first in the gravel parking lot trying to satisfy their craving. Unfortunately the Yelp page said they were already open and the other party, waiting inside their car had called but Nicks wasn't answering. I walked around the building found someone who said they would be opening a few more minutes. I relayed this info to the other party who decided they would try Nicks another day. Delicious gyro wrap combo! . I used to go across the street for bbq. Always wondering about this place. My father was the first person to take me to get a gyro when I was a kid in Savanah Georgia. Every time I get one I think of him. He passed in 2014. I didn't eat a lunch at work just snacking on chips. I wanted my appetite right for when I got off from work. I ate the fries in my car and the lamb gyro is loaded. I got the combo with the sweet tea. I also got a lamb plate for lunch at work tomorrow it's flooded not skimpy. Some of the best Greek food in Atlanta, gyros especially, can be found at this humble little establishment downtown, just blocks from the Georgia State Capitol. Nick's Food To Go has become an Atlanta institution, serving takeout for decades - since 1994 - on Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE. As the neighborhoods continue to gentrify around Nick's and its longtime catty-corner restaurant neighbor Daddy D'z BBQ Joynt, I can't help but wonder when developers will eventually push these guys out. When are First Watch and Hollywood Feed moving in? Or the next luxury apartments? Sarcasm aside, I hope these mainstays persevere. They might move into new, nicer digs, but will it really be the same? Nick's is located in what looks like an old, rundown corner store. That's also what makes it special. The outside of the white brick building has been painted over with various colorful graffiti art over the years. What hasn't changed is the signage which looks weathered and worn as ever. Those signs may have been there since '94. The front door is rusted over. True to its name, this isn't a dine-in restaurant. It's takeout-only. In that sense, they were well-prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. They do have a patio, but it consists only of two uncovered picnic tables. For exterior decor, they have planters made from tires and a sizable garden, both of which have grown in nicely. A rarity in this part of town, Nick's also has a spacious surface lot with plenty of free parking. Whether the lot is actually theirs, I'm not sure. I bet the land is really valuable. The menu is fairly straightforward. The shop sells burgers, sandwiches, pita wraps, Greek entrees and sides, Greek salads, and baklava. They also have sides like fries, onion rings, and okra. During our visit, burgers, sandwiches, and pita wraps ran about $7-9 each and $11-13 for a combo. There are over a half-dozen pita wrap options, from beef to falafel, and each wrap comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and tzatziki. Plates cost $15.50 each and include Greek potatoes, Greek salad, and pita. Sides ranged from $4-8 each. My wife and I got two plates, the lamb plate and the souvlaki plate ($15.50 each), and one order of spanakopita ($4). We loved everything. The food was filling and satisfying. Everything was made fresh to order. It was still nice and warm when we got home (just under a 10-minute drive). The food smelled amazing on the ride home. We couldn't wait to eat it. Each item was terrific, from the Greek salads to the potatoes. The latter were exceptionally flavorful and addictive. I'm not the biggest fan of Greek potatoes and Nick's makes perhaps the best version I've ever tasted. Not only did they taste great, but they sort of had that crispy French fry consistency which made them that more appetizing. The Greek salads came with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepperoncini, black olives, and feta cheese with Nick's homemade Greek dressing on the side. I liked the dressing so much that I saved leftovers to use on my salad the next day. The salads were crisp and refreshing. I particularly liked the pepperoncinis (delectably sweet and spicy). As for the meats, they were delicious. I preferred the lamb (gyro) to the souvlaki (pork), but I don't think you can go wrong with either. Nick's lamb is magical. It's savory and it's got the perfect flavor and texture. Made with a fantastic mix of spices, the meat is shaved thin so it's mouthwateringly crispy on the outside, but still good and soft throughout. Together with the cold, zesty tzatziki (excellent) and scrumptious pita, it's probably the best gyro in Atlanta. Nick's tzatziki was very creamy and garlicky. In general, they're not afraid to season the food here. Everything was well-seasoned. Souvlaki is Greek-style pork, traditionally cooked on skewers. Nick's serves their souvlaki off the skewer in small pieces. The souvlaki tasted better than it looked. By the looks of it, I was expecting the pork to be perhaps a bit dry and bland, but it wasn't; it was tasty and tender. Really good, and hearty too. Plate portions were generous. A good value. As for the spanakopita (Greek spinach pie), wow, was it yummy. Again, freshly prepared. This savory pastry was wonderfully layered with rich and buttery filo dough, spinach, and melty feta. It's quite gratifying. I highly recommend it. I wonder why they never named this business "Nick and Helen's" after co-owners Nick *and* his wife Helen. Interestingly, the vendor that printed on my receipt and showed up on my credit card statement was "Eleni's Fine Foods," not Nick's To Go. Service was great. A friendly young woman served us at the window and our order was ready in a reasonable amount of time. TL;DR - Nick's Food To Go is a true gem in downtown Atlanta. Get the lamb gyro (either as a pita wrap or lamb plate) and the spanakopita. You will not be disappointed. read more

I just want to keep this place a little secret. It's a legit hole-in-the-wall, family-owned and operated safe haven. Their food is the best, their service is v short and their menu is not even close to extensive. You know exactly what you're getting with this hidden gem. It's walking distance from me, and I will happily walk here ANYTIME. The greek salad with chicken is my go-to. It isn't exactly cheap, but it's a huge portion. A medium is enough for me to eat for lunch twice, and it's something like $16. They freshly-grate their feta. The kalamata olives are always just perfect! Everything is served with a teeny little side of tziki. And teeny is JUST enough, because it is GAR-LIC-Y. When I'm feeling feisty, I will order the greek potatoes. You're going to have a hard time finding better Gyros in Athens Greece. I'm not kidding. They are really that good, and by far the best Atlanta has to offer. On top of that, everything they do is delicious, and I've tried most things. Low key, I've not seen the Nick's Quarter Burger on any Atlanta top 10 burgers list, because I think everyone is so distracted by the delicious gyros, but the burger is as good as any burger you'll find in Atlanta. Take my word for it. The Tzatziki is as good as any you'll ever have as well, but be weary that there is some garlic in it, enough that you'll notice after you've eaten.
