Instead, they can't bother to figure out what 2 simple gutter pieces cost, & wanting to fill the holes w/hydraulic cement (insane), they just list a labor charge, & ask for 10% down, labor & material billed daily, & a credit card on file, I called them to speak to a total incompetent who then hands it over to Dick Hoerr, who called me a "social idiot", and a "moron", & that he'd never do a job for me. As if I would EVER consider a contractor who would call me filthy names & doesn't even know how to do the job. You don't pour 20-30 ft. of hydraulic cement in the holes - you cover the holes with rubber or aluminum & then coat that w/a small amount of hydraulic cement. Then, in his answer to one of the numerous negative reviews, he writes: "We are the highest rated handyman company on Angie's in the United States and we are located here in Chicago. I personally live in the Chicagoland Area. Simply put this is one of those landlords that attempts to beat down labor after they work on his home in an effort to maximize his profit. David, the owner, seems like a nice guy, and he did a good job replacing the tiles on my bathroom floor, and he (mostly his assistant) did a lot of painting, which on the whole looks good. But see below... The big issues were what I discovered after he was finished and had left: fresh paint stains in multiple areas, including the wood floor of my 19th century house and even furniture - which I cleaned up. Splattered paint near the ceiling of my kitchen which still, three months later, has not been patched, paint stains on my oriental rug, a major purchase 40 years ago, etc. David said he would pay for the rug damage, and I only asked for 50% of the very reasonable $175 cleaning cost. David told me to bill him via Zelle, something I said I'm not sure how to do. He already has my Zelle information, since that's how I paid him for the work. But after messaging him and emailing several times, he has not responded. And I still have paint streaks on the wall and an unpaid bill. So I can't recommend Handy Gentlemen. I think part of the problem is that David is under-manned and a bit overwhelmed, but not responding to my messages is unprofessional.

Since COVID-19 social distancing rules were not yet established the start date changed a few times over a few months, which is completely understandable. I would text every 3-4 weeks to check on a start date. He replied with a date and I replied right away to confirm. The day before he was supposed to start I figured I would reconfirm that he was starting the next day since he had not said anything since asking me if that date would work. He replied on the day very rudely with "I never confirmed for today at 2 I'm booked at this time. I asked when the next available date was and received no reply. Why would he ask me if that date worked and I replied within a minute of him asking me, so it was pretty safe to assume we were good to go. He has done projects for us before and everything went great, so I am not sure why he decided to be rude. Needless to say, I found someone else that is more reliable. Sorry Artie, I thought highly of you and recommended you to friends because of the great work you did before, but how you handled things was unprofessional.
