my business partner hired to complete some work on a property Palatine. Only to come and find he was not licensed by the state to do that type of work only until after the work was complete. This was disclosed. We had to hire another company to redo the work, since then I have attempted to communicate with but he has blocked me from being able to call him or text him. I would say stay far away from this company if you have a chance as they don't have any sense of professionalism or will not take any accountability. read more

We had a terrible experience with Chris and his Renovate Me team. We had to do a cosmetic renovation of our primary bath after we fixed a small leak and thought it would be straightforward - redo walk in shower and new tile around tub. It turned into a 5 week headache with us catching Chris and his team in multiple lies about mistakes that were made and tried to cover up without us knowing. They messed up installing our tub and had to cut through the brand new tile shower they had just built to fix the rough in. During the "fix" they cut out our tub's copper pipe water supply lines and switched it with the $5 flex hose faucet supply lines (against code because it's in an inaccessible area) without telling us. I only caught it because I went up to check on the progress while they took a break. When I asked if they cut through the tile they denied it at first until I told them I had just looked at the hole while they were out. I had to bring in my own plumber to fix the bathtub (Chris did split the bill with me 50/50) that they left full of water and LEAKING into our first floor after declaring it "water tight!" And leaving for the day. My plumber also confirmed they had messed up the supply pipes to the point he didn't want to try and fix it and possibly be held liable for the bad work. He said the only way to truly fix their mistake was to rip everything out and start all over again at this point (I consulted a second plumber who also agreed that there was no easy fix and they had thoroughly messed up the install). Chris later returned with his plumber and claimed they had been able to reinstall all of our copper supply lines! Too bad he didn't know we had to cut a hole in our first floor ceiling (for the bathtub leak his worker had caused) so I could see up to the plumbing and could still see the flex hose lines. I asked him point blank "so no more flex hose??" And he confirmed. I told him I could see the flex hose and he said "oh yeah we had to leave that in after all". So we are left with a brand new shower that required Chris to cut through the waterproof membrane to fix their mistake (and the fix is against code due to the high possibility of an undetectable leak). I also had to call them out on using the wrong grout to replace the shower tiles they had cut out (they had brought in a mastic grout that isn't meant for wet environments). They broke one of our trash cans due to constantly overfilling it with demolition debris despite paying a $650 debris removal fee. Communication was poor about timelines and even after voicing my frustration and concern about the project being done incorrectly Chris only made one appearance on one of the last days of work. To top it off finish on the project was poor. I was hesitant to post this review because I was worried about needing Chris to come back to fix something if the shower fails while under his "warranty" but my husband and I are so skeptical of Chris and his work that we decided we wouldn't want him to come in for a free fix anyways. read more

Christopher did an incredible job helping me feel like my apartment was home. He was timely, diligent, & always left the door open for me to feel comfortable to ask any questions or express concerns I had. This was the first time I had someone come and do a bathtub refinish. The before and afters make it look like I had a brand new tub! I'm so excited that my home finally feels how I want it to. If you're looking to create a complete disaster in your home or your neighbors', "Renovate Me" is the company to go to. Due to their total incompetence and lack of professional oversight, they caused major flood damage to our property and the one below us. Chris seemed very nice to deal with at first, confidently assuring us he would fix everything, even persuading us that he would make it even better than before. Having just moved into the property and having done major renovations with a different (and much better company) we trusted what he told us. He then dragged his feet about every tiny detail, with us having to chase him repeatedly to do the work. It took MONTHS. We finally got our hardwood floors fixed which thankfully was done by a different company who were decent. His team came in weeks after this to finally replace our doors, but they used the cheapest materials - some of which we had to request be replaced. They left a total mess in their wake, the door frames had huge gaping holes around them, and they damaged the wood and paintwork we had just had fixed up when we moved in. It was beyond disappointing and upsetting. And they were going to just leave it like that. I then had to chase them to come in and actually finish the work. Finally when they did come back, they used an orange colored filler against white woodwork (- completely baffled as to why), then stopped halfway to go get more "supplies", leaving a door hanging off its hinges. They never came back. We left it a week, then, when I enquired when they would be returning to finish up, they made a bunch of excuses like having stomach flu, having to wait for a wood stain, etc etc, until we finally had enough and gave up trying to get them to have standards and treat us with respect. He also had promised he would fix the damage to our ceilings too but by this point, it was just too painful and arduous dealing with Chris. We will now need to get another contractor to come in and fix his work and pay for that out of our own pockets. The irony is we had thought Chris was a decent guy and this might actually be someone we could use for future jobs. Absolutely no way would we ever work with him again. It doesn't make us feel good leaving this review, however we have to be honest about our experience. read more

Christopher does a great job of giving you confidence that the job will be done quick and well. He also charges a premium to hire. I would say the premium he charged was not worth it by a long shot. His sub-contractors specifically his drywaller was a nightmare. His drywaller would frequently cancel or "forget" to show up which would cause enormous delays. A 3 week project took 6 full weeks and finished in the 7th week. The Drywall contactor caused 4+ delays that extended the project by more than 9 business days but extended by multiple weeks by only showing up on a Thursday or a Friday. Frustratingly I had to constantly follow up with Christopher and the drywall contractor to make sure they were going to show up and do work. With painting, the drywall contractor rushed and spilled paint in multiple spots on the floors and on my newly installed wood stairs giving the stairs a bluish hint. The drywall contractor also spilled paint and caulk all over my work desk that was left in the space and did not bother to clean up their mess. Christopher did make sure that his guys cleaned it up but frustrating about the quality and cleanliness of their work. End result looks acceptable but considering the cost, the frustration, and the work I had to do to follow up and clean up after I would not recommend using. As mentioned they were the MOST expensive contractor by a long shot but was guaranteed fast and good work. I figured if the cost matched the speed and quality I would understand but I got mediocre/acceptable quality work at a snails pace where had I to keep on checking in. Also considering how much effort and frustration I had to put in with having to follow up, his premium is not worth the extra cost and I would not recommend. read more

The other 1-star yelp reviews reflect my experience completely: workers who didn't show up, didn't know what they were doing, made costly mistakes that I have to now eat.... Also, since absolutely *nothing* was happening when it was time to do some tiling I asked Christ if I could find a tile setter and get reimbursement from him. "That would be great!" he said. Well, you can guess the rest. I found the tile setter but never got the reimbursement. It was probably better than the alternative - waiting for Chris' incompetent subs to show up and mess up yet another task - but it's the breach of trust that really gets me. In the end, that's what sent me over the edge and prompted me to post this review. read more

I had a fantastic experience working with Chris and his team from Renovate Me. I had a full bathroom renovation completed recently and it looks fabulous. Working with Eddie (who works for Chris) was great. He was responsive, reliable, would communicate any scheduling delays or changes, and is a true bathroom construction and renovation expert. He was meticulous yet also efficient. Chris' estimates and labor costs are very fairly priced as well, which makes Renovate Me a smart choice for your small or large projects. smoke and mirrors. extremely responsive for the initial quote but oversells their abilities. It has been months since we started our renovation project and I am chasing to get people to show up - consistently throughout the project. Chris won't even take the time to return my calls and his scheduler Ed has been unresponsive for weeks. We still have the finishing work to do for the complete project and I have given up that they will come back to do it. one of their subcontractors Daniel also took a ladder of ours (by mistake) in May but has now refused to return it or reimburse us for it over three months later. Chris did the plumbing work himself and is clearly not a plumber. the hot and cold water valves are no where close to level or even and our insulation was burned when he was trying to weld on site. do yourself a favor and stay clear of RenovateMe. plenty of other overpriced contractors in the area that at least show up more consistently. read more

Chris and his guys from Renovate Me did an excellent job on a master bedroom & powder room project for me last fall. They moved/reconfigured a closet door opening for me to make better functionality with our space and changed tile in the powder room, both with seamless perfection to detail. Demo, Drywall, electrical, tile, door frame, installed steal frame barn door, wood flooring. Offered great solutions through out the project and great finished product. read more

Chris has done great work for us at our house from fixing drywall, to installing new spigots, fixing a door frame, and installing a leaking toilet. He is def a highly recommended repairman. His prices are fair and he gets the work done quickly. read more
