When we removed the plastic sheeting, we discovered there was still an issue with water coming in through a gap in the siding. His guys were able to make the exterior repair before finishing the drywall. It was a huge relief to find him. We are so grateful that we were connected to Jose and the team at Nieves drywall and remodeling! We had several projects that needed to be completed on a tight timeline due to needing to list our house for sale after an out of state move. I had contacted 10+ different contractors. Jose's team was by far the most timely with the estimate creation and they were ready to start right away. His communication was consistent and proactive. He wanted to make sure that we were taken care of by having a solid plan in place from the beginning. The quality of their work was apparent right from the start and the team took great pride in working very clean. Everything was picked up each day before their departure. It could have been nerve wrecking to have work done in a home while you aren't there but Jose put our mind at ease. There was nearly daily alignment on the priorities each day via text or phone call and photos of the progress. The team also navigated multiple vendors in the space at the same time and our miscalculation of materials and they still finished on time. Beware of this contractor. They were sent to my home to drywall a basement renovations. In the course of their work, despite instructions, the workers damaged my furnace thermostat and permanently disabled the thermostat. They did not notify me of this "mistake" and on several cold nights my home was left without heat. When the damage was brought to the foreman's, (Jose) attention they refused to repair it. In addition, they covered up fireplace cleanout, and a framed in vent opening necessitating my hiring a separate contractor to repair that damage. They were on my property for 4 days . Each day involved a separate team of individuals and no supervisor. There was no consistency throughout the job. When completed, the walls are rough to the touch, seams are visible and corners are exposed. One cabinet opening was dry walled on an angle wider than 45 degrees that will necessitate special remediation by a cabinet maker. When they left each day, they did not clean up. There was drywall compound everywhere including globs on new doors that were to be installed. If you value your property, don't use these people. I can only guess that the 4 star reviews were posted by individuals who had some interest in the company. They were completely different from my experience. read more

Very sloppy work. My husband and I hired Nieves to paint our condo and fix the cracks. Jose was promising at first assuring us that everything would be done right. Later, when I pointed out some problems and mistakes Jose dismissed me used his standard line that he already saw the problem and pointed it out to the guys. He also repeatedly told us that he will do a final walk through to make sure we were happy with the work. The final walk through never happen and the job took 3 times longer than planned because of the mistakes. There were less and less guys working, if they showed up (dog spent 3 days at daycare while no one showed up to work). Jose didn't ask us what finish we wanted for the paint, he just got whatever. To sum up the problems. They didn't prep anything, painted over dust and dirt. Didn't fix many cracks they were supposed to. Painted around the towel holders and toilet paper holders instead of taking them off first. The drywall work had to be re-sanded because they left little mounds of too much plaster and painted over it. The trim work was very sloppy and crooked, wall paint on ceiling and white trim paint on the wall (not good at staying in the lines I guess). Some walls and trim were not painted even though they were supposed to be. Some places the paint was so globed on that it made drip marks, other walls the paint was so sparse that the old paint showed. Some paint cracked and peeled off the same day (painting over drywall dust). Our bathroom was painted a light brown, yet the 2cm space between the mirror and the wall was left white, this looked terrible. The worst was the trim work and edging. It was clearly done in a hurry and looked very unprofessional. There was paint on the carpet and all over furniture. We're still scraping paint off of things and Nieves has been gone for 2 weeks. Towards the end, we just wanted them to get out, it was clear they were not capable of doing a clean, professional job. They actually caused more damage than repairs. The trim will have to be stripped and redone. Most of the edging will need to be fixed. I've built a house and a few condos, I know the correct way to paint, Nieves did not to the job properly. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I hired Jose and his team to do a complete bathroom renovation/remodel. I'm an executive female with the highest of expectations. Some even call me 'the general'. With that said you can imagine what I expected from Jose. He not only delivered what he said he would but he over delivered. My bathroom was gutted and reconstructed to perfection within 2 weeks. It's an average bathroom size 6x9. He ripped out the bath, and constructed a gorgeous shower. His team was not only on time, but worked over time and when I had questions, Jose never delayed in answering. They were trust worthy - as they were in my 3BR condo in a high rise all by themselves at all times. They were clean and tidy- as you know any construction can be messy. I cannot recommend Jose enough. Since the bathroom renovation, his team has been back to seal all 50 windows for more efficiency. Can't wait to hire them again for my 2nd bathroom. These guys do great work. My finished basement was flooded during the big April storm. A foot of drywall had to be removed from the floor up. I called a bunch of different drywall contractors - Jose was one of the first to come out for an estimate. The following day Roxanne had a quote for me and they were ready to start 2 days later. Not only did these guys have the lowest quote - everything turned out exactly as promised. This was a pretty big 5-day job that included drywall hanging, baseboard installation, and painting. The crew showed up on time every day, Jose called almost every day to check in with me, and best of all the work was completed even sooner than promised. Couple of changes had to be made on the fly and Jose was quick to adjust. It's so hard to find a hard-working honest contractor in this city and these guys are definitely top notch in every respect. I hired Jose and his crew to completely remodel my bathroom this July. I hired him from several bids because the price was competitive - and he acted like he really wanted the work. He and the crew kept the same attitude through the job and beyond. I only have one bathroom, so getting the job done quickly was just as important as getting it done well. And it did get done well. The crew worked really hard even in 100-degree temperatures to keep the progress going. At the end all of my expectations were met - for both timing and the quality of the work. The work was solid, which I say having the skill and knowledge (just not the time) to have done the job myself. Afterwards it was great to find a contractor who takes a punchlist seriously. Not only was everything checked off, but Jose called me to schedule all the followup work - usually it's the other way around. Tell Jose what you want, and his guys will make it happen. I had some ideas and sketeches about what I wanted. They were able to work with those, filling in details for actual construction and presenting good options for things that wouldn't work. They were totally cool with choices and small changes along the way, too. If you want someone to bring samples, talk about this vs. that style or paint color, then work with your designer on a construction schedule... you need to hire someone else. Nieves is your contractor if you want good work and want it DONE. And to everyone whining about the signs... that's how I found these guys and I am better for it. Jose was great to work with. Hired Nieves to rehab my Mom's 2nd floor apartment. Free estimate, great price. Work was all completed as stated in contract. Workers were polite and great to deal with. Cleaned up after themselves daily. They were able to do the electrical and carpet for us so we did not need to look elsewhere. I have used them for a lot of projects (Siding, Bathroom renovations, roofing repairs, etc) and they always done a a great job. They do everything to code. If something looks off (which is rare), give them a call and they will fix it. A lot of other places will give you the runaway and never appear. He is always on time as well. I was very disappointed when I read the reviews I really taught these guy were good. First it was the down payment which was 3/4 of the job. first came in two fairly good guys and it seemed that it was going to be ok. The next day one of the same came and another older man, he entered and started cutting drywall to hang the very first problems not enough glue one tube was used to do the whole kitchen. The screws were to short, lucky one had longer in his car. The chimney was tape off so they would not drywall it, you guessed it they had one side drywall after I spent 1200 to have refinish. screws were used and put holes in the brick. It was barely holding on and I was very upset because no there was a 5/8 gap everywhere. On the third day they sent a person and he fixed most of the mistakes. There are still corner errors and outlets poor plastering, by the ceiling lights there are waves. Why must it be so hard to find a good drywall person. 22 sheets and about 4 wasted and had to get more. I would not recommend this person. His prices are not cheap for the type of work his crew does.
