This has been one of the most frustrating contractor experiences I've ever had. I signed my contract and paid my deposit in September and was told the work would begin within 2-3 weeks. Instead, nothing started for over a month -- and only after I repeatedly followed up asking what the delay was. Communication was consistently poor. I had to chase updates instead of receiving them proactively. After becoming frustrated, I requested a change in materials. Only then was I told the delay was due to materials -- something that should have been communicated upfront. Even two weeks after making that change, still no work had been done, yet I was asked for a large additional advance payment. By month three, work finally began -- but only partially, because not all materials had arrived. Weeks later, the front gate was installed. Upon final inspection, the vinyl walls noticeably move. When I questioned this, I was told they "need to settle." It has now been months since installation, and the vinyl still moves. The front gate is visibly lopsided, and the overall workmanship appears rushed and sloppy. I have made multiple requests for these issues to be corrected. Each time, I am met with excuses and no real effort to resolve the problems. I paid in good faith and expected professional communication, quality workmanship, and accountability. This is a review long overdue, like a year overdue. My apologies to Nick and the gentlemen who put the vinyl fence up for me and my neighbors. So, here's the long story shortened, I found out that my neighbors had about three feet of my property on their side. There was this decrepit wooden fence that was built prior to my buying my home. I went through the legal requirements to confirm, give notice, and they agreed to split the cost of a new fence with placement on the common boundary line. I found Nick on Yelp. We negotiated a fair price, I gave him a copy of the legal survey, informed him that my neighbors would split the cost and we all met in person. He professionally and politely drew up contracts for both parties, splitting the cost as agreed. The day of construction, my neighbors pretended like they didn't know what was happening and secretly tried to get the men to build the fence on my property line instead of the agreed upon common boundary line. Of course, the guys had the survey and instructions from the initial meeting and upon arrival all had been confirmed again, so the foreman came to me to once again confirm the placement of the fence. I told him it was the agreed upon common boundary line in front of my neighbors who were trying to pull an illegal move. When they realized I wasn't budging on the placement, my neighbors began yelling, screaming and calling me all kinds of names. They even went so far as to lie about our initial agreement and the legitimacy of the survey in an attempt to get the guys to abandon the project. It was a circus and clusterpluck! As someone who is well raised, I refused to join in on the idiocy. Instead, I just reminded the men about the survey and initial discussions. I refused to be intimidated or harassed into giving away land I bought and legally own. The foreman and gentlemen working remained calm, polite, professional, and completed the work as contracted. They did not let any of the craziness from my neighbors distract them from the plan. The foreman even told me not to worry about anything because they had the survey and also, he wouldn't let my neighbors physically touch me (it was a male neighbor who initially began the threats and verbal attack and his girlfriend came out and added on to the wildness). I appreciated the professionalism and the assurance of physical safety as my neighbors showed their crazy, psychotic side. I was shocked, but these men were so cool and collected. They truly focused on finishing the job early (possibly because of the neighbors behavior) and doing it well. I have nothing but respect for them. I guess they see this happen all the time with property line disputes, but wow, how amazing they were in all the commotion. They are so nice that they even gave pointers to my neighbors for free to help them in construction for stairs since the neighbors could no longer use the ones by the fence once I got my property back. It was an attempt to calm the neighbors and make them see reason instead of attacking a female for no reason. I mean, how professional and nice. They didn't have to do that at all, but they are good people. These are the type of folks you want working for you and assisting you in your home renovation. True gentlemen who are craftsmen. The fence is beautiful and built perfectly on the common boundary line. My backyard is bigger and looks great. The fence alone has helped raise my property value and that of the crazy neighbors. My family and friends and even strangers have commented on how nice my house and the fence looks. I have constantly recommended Nicks Vinyl to my friends and anyone who mentions fences. They use top notch materials, they are able to work well and professionally with extremely weird and negative behavior around them, and they make sure they follow the terms of the contract and aren't persuaded to do anything illegal or harmful to their client. I respect this company and those men a lot. As a woman who owns her own place and who has had to deal with a lot of people trying to take advantage or intimidate me into releasing things that are legally mine, it was nice not to worry about this one thing that meant so much to me. I am unfortunately one of the minority amongst the group here with less than stellar experience. There appears to be a trend for those who lack the same great experience. Nick is terrible with communication and following through. His install crew was awesome. They were professional and efficient. However, one of our front self closing gate was misaligned upon installation, thus does not close. This is a big issue and I have reached out repeatedly to Nick to have someone come out to fix this. It has been a month since my initial contact with this issue and my responses have been a brief "I will send someone out next week" to no response when I follow up after there has been no one showing. Although I had also ran into some lack of follow through when they made a mistake with our pool gate during the install, I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to being in the midst of the pandemic. No call or anything. I said ok, ill leave it alone. He reached out to me via IG, we set up a date and time that we both agreed on. I call him 10 min before our scheduled appt and then he states we didnt confirm. Then I send him a screenshot of our conversation and he finally apologizes. He personally is very involved with his business and has a great crew of workers. We had a driveway and small porch fence installed in January of 2017. Our old wooden fence had its run and it's about to replace it. My neighbor and I both agreed to go with vinyl as it would look so much better than either wooden fence or brick wall. After having quite a few quotes from several contractors, we decided to go with Nick as his business is local (we'd like to support our local business) and the reviews form former customers look good. I contacted Nick through Yelp earlier this week requesting a quote. He said he could come by today, Friday, after 1 PM. At about 3 I texted him to ask for an ETA, as we were waiting to get lunch until he came by. He responded that he wouldn't be coming because he'd gone to the hospital and was on bed rest per doctor's orders. I was disappointed, but figured that maybe he truly had a medical emergency. Still, there was a part of me that was irritated that he hadn't contacted his customers at all. As a business owner, you need to have a plan in place in the event of an emergency - not necessarily to complete work or estimates, but to at least communicate with clients. He said he'd gone to the hospital yesterday, so he had plenty of time to reach out. Given that he responded to my text almost immediately, he was clearly pretty close to his phone and capable of using it. I had to take a call when the next company came for an estimate, and when I walked outside my family asked who the name of "the guy who had a medical emergency" was. I said "Nick" and my family laughed. My family had explained to the man giving us an estimate that we had 5 estimates scheduled today and only 2 had shown up and that the last person hadn't even texted us that he wasn't coming. They hadn't even explained the medical emergency yet, but the gentleman giving the estimate had said "Wait, let me guess. Nick? Ok, let me try to guess why. Hospital?" Apparently Nick does this a lot and even his competitors know about it. I was also warned that he is not licensed or insured, which is a serious red flag. As far as I'm concerned, he lost me as a customer when he failed to communicate with me. His company lost my respect when I realized he likely lied to me about why he wasn't there. If he truly had a medical emergency, I apologize, however this is similar to "the boy who cried wolf" - he has clearly used this excuse so many times that nobody believes him anymore. If and when he is truly ill, nobody will believe him then either. I'd stay clear of this company! Edited to add: Nick did NOT cancel the appointment, he simply didn't show. There's a big difference. On top of that, he managed to start texting me about my review within minutes of me posting it, but couldn't have been bothered to text me to actually cancel (or reschedule, as the case could have been if he'd actually reached out to me) the appointment? This is something I could have done myself, but it would have taken me 3 days to finish. I just had nicks vinyl fencing do a ranch style fencing a few weeks ago. I thought this job would be to much for the company. I was wrong they showed up on time and got the job done. Nick kept me posted throughout the process, I would have to say I was surprised...... If you look at my profile I'm not a good pleaser I hardly don't give 5 stars ever. One of the other reasons why I decided to give him a 5 star was because when he submitted his bid for the job he was under budget. He was very very reasonable on his quotes. Nick's Vinyl Fence just finished up putting up some Duramax vinyl fencing in my backyard, and I couldn't be more pleased! His work was outstanding and it was reasonably priced. His crew of Juan and Mike were very professional, extremely hard working, and friendly. They also did a very good job of cleaning up after the work was completed. They put up almost 40 feet total of 6ft high fencing and two gates and it looks super good. They had to first break some existing concrete to create the holes and then neatly poured concrete for the post footings into those holes. The work was outstanding and my city building inspector during inspections even commented how good the work looked, and how the finished product came out. Nick himself stayed on top of the job and was always communicative of the work ongoing. He was very professional and very understanding of my expectations of the work. His goal is to make sure that I was satisfied with the end result, and was willing to make adjustments as needed without question. I would strongly recommend him to anyone considering putting up vinyl fencing. Bring him in for a quote, and you'll be surprised in how reasonable his pricing will be. I shopped around with several companies and different products. When Nick came for my quote I was very surprised that he had samples of the different options including different colors. Honestly I thought this whole time there was only white!! In comparison to some of the vinyls from other companies their product felt flimsy. The vinyl from Nick was more durable and had more weight. We bought a new home and knew the fence was in pretty bad shape, but when the neighbor's German Shepherd pushed through the fence boards and entered our backyard while my toddler was playing we knew it was time to fix it asap. Nick's Vinyl gave what we thought was a fair quote (we checked around). Although they weren't able to start for a week after the agreed upon date (materials were delayed due to covid, they did a great job, cleaned up, and were on time.
