From the ambiance, to the service, to the quality of food, Nicksan is a must visit! The portions of food were massive for the price, everything we ordered was fantastic. I would strongly recommend the salmon yuzu, the lobster roll, and fried rice. The desserts are huge, consider getting one to share for the table. Staff were friendly and professional, very attentive and helpful in guiding the menu selections (I'm gluten free). We had multiple people attending to us and were well cared for the whole evening. They take reservations via open table, which I'd recommend as they get rather crowded around 7. If the weather is nice the outdoor seating is delightful! read more

Food was unreal. Lemon sake roll was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. It had a very fresh flavor- fresh salmon with notes of lemon and sriracha. Fried rice was delicious! Drinks were great. Sashimi serranito was some of the best I've had. Perfect amount of spice. Food was very affordable. Each booth is located in the middle of the coy pond. Such a beautiful unique experience. Used to be our favorite spot for years. Now, after absent of 10 years, totally a mess. Bad service, terrible food, extremely high prices. Stuff was cold and unfriendly. Food was bad all around, The chicken, Spaghetti and veggies arrived cold. The chicken was rubbery, needed long periods of chewing. The fish also rubbery, the sushi arrived warm for some reason. And 3,000 pesos for 4 adults and bad food is a crime. read more

Unfortunately, this is not a sushi restaurant; it's mostly sushi-style. There are very few traditional sushi options and when they are offered they do not have important fresh ingredients like crab. Every roll that includes crab has imitation crab. Most dishes are drowning in syrupy sauces that completely masque the flavor of the fish and even the veg tempura was a thick layer of batter over an even thicker piece of raw vegetables. Service was attentive but almost every dish was a disappointment. And the prices are ludicrous for such below average food. Avoid unless you plan to only drink and listen to the DJ. read more

Many of the dishes were swimming in sauce and it ruined the delicacy of the fish, even the California roll was slightly warm and didn't taste great. Finally found a sushi bar that has good yellow tail. They have some great unique rolls and some delicious unique fusion dishes. Atmosphere is nice nestled in a spa like area. Indoor outdoor dining. The staff is friendly and bi lingual. Definitely a great place to go if you get a craving for sushi while in PV or NV. Worth the visit! read more

Sushi in Mexico? That just doesn't sound good... but we decided to be adventurous after hearing about Nicksan from several friends, and we were pretty much blown away with the experience! Our party of 4 adults and 2 toddlers made a last minute reservation during our recent vacation and were pleased to be seated on time, given super attentive service, and quality food -- dare I even say 5 stars by US standards? My kids ate rice and tried avocado and cucumber rolls, which made me very happy. The rest of us went family style and shared a variety of sushi rolls and sashimi in addition to a salad and one cooked special entree. It was all delicious! I definitely recommend Nicksan if you're seeking high quality fish and seafood in the Nuevo Vallarta area. read more

Nicksan - exceeding your expectations. Sure they did, with a horrible service we received and the joke of a food they sold us. The hardest and stubborn, waiter and manager you could find on all banderas bay. As an experienced tourist and yelp friend I recommend you to chose another restaurant this time, like Saku that is located on 3.14 plaza. Some dishes are ok, but others are just an insult to the client. The only good thing must be the scenery, with the exception of the water leakage that falls in your head and haven't been fixed since last time we came here. read more

Being from SF Bay area I'm used to pretty tasty fish at various locations....this place ranks right up there with the best places I know back home. The point of differentiation I've got to tip my sombrero to Nicksan was their creativity....we had to do sashimi serrano twice (I think it was hamachi), rolls were creatively killer, there was a ahi tostada appetizer worth mentioning, and the service and ambience top-nice. While it's probably more pricey than other places Nuevo and north (we're staying local in Bucerias) we got out of their for about $40 per person, including plenty of Sapporo and sake.....it would have been 3x that in SF area. Not at all a traditional Japanese restaurant, very much fusioned with Mexican taste, but I liked this place a lot and we came back more than once. The tuna tostada is to die for. The gyozas are fantastic too. Rolls are fanciful. Service is better than average for the area. I highly recommend this place. read more

Someone encouraged me to go here because they have a really good 5-course menu that features "fusion" Japanese food. We decided to try it out.  We were totally disappointed. The 5-course menu that night featured california rolls and teriyaki chicken. Being an experienced sushi snob, I was not thrilled about the idea of boring california rolls and teriyaki chicken. But we ordered it anyways thinking it was going to knock our socks off, like our recommendation suggested. NOPE. It was the most BORING california roll and the most BORING chicken teriyaki. I make this type of meal for my kids every week and I make it better than this expensive restaurant did. Also, it came with a side of cold mayonaise spaghetti, which was awful and very non-Japanese. We were so disappointed with the 5-course menu, we decided to go off the menu to try some other items.  The yellowfin sashimi was the best thing we ate. It was very fresh and flavorful with lovely crispy garlic on top. We also tried the seafood cake which was just okay. It was creamier than it really needed to be, but the flavor was good.  If you eat here, I would suggest eating off the regular menu and sharing the plates instead of getting the 5-course meal. read more
