Bugs in food! I have been writing yelp reviews for over 14 years and have been elite for 12. I've never had anything like this happen and the way it was addressed is unacceptable! I have been going to Nifty Fifty's since I was in HS in the 90's. I was so excited to have this location open, until yesterday. You can see I went when this location first opened and gave them 5 stars. Things have changed. I stopped by and got a milk shake and cheese fries to go. I sat outside on their bench for 5 minutes. Ate a few fries and finished a phone call before heading home. When I got home I opened the fries and there were bugs in them. I immediately got sick and ran the food outside to the trash. I tried to call the restaurant 4 times with no answer. I called another location to make sure I had the right number, which I did. Today I went back to tell them what happened. I asked to speak with manager privately as this was something I didn't want to talk about openly. I asked for a refund, which they denied. They said they were so busy they couldn't answer the phone. It was empty when I was there less than 30 minutes prior so I find that hard to believe. They said I sat at the bench for the 5 min and that's where I got the bugs. They said they would remake the food but I couldn't sit at a table even though the place was empty. At this point I did say very loudly there were bugs in my food and I wanted corporates number, which they would not provide. They then asked me to leave when people were asking what happened. I'll take up a dispute with my credit card. I didn't photo the bugs as I was physically ill from thinking about the ones I ate at the restaurant and had drank 1/2 my milkshake. I'm very sad that this will be my final visit to Nifty Fifties but even when offered replacement food. At first I said yes but I immediately felt sick about it and said no thank you. I won't be able to ever go back here. I filled out their online form for customer service but at this point there is nothing that can be done. Update: I did hear from corporate within 24 hours. They offered me a gift card that can be used at another location and asked that I update this review. I can't honestly update this experience because I wont be returning to this location. read more

We went late at night as we were just staying the night in town and needed something to eat when we arrived. Even 45 minutes to close the staff was helpful and efficient. We got takeout though because we're not rude lol The food was absolutely delicious. No looming closing time kept them from making a super high quality meal! Clearly the best ingredients, everything was fresh, and the milkshakes, omfg the milkshakes. I got a birthday cake one and my husband got the banana cream pie. They use real slices of cake and pie to make these and it was a holy calling. The best milkshake I've ever had! The decor is fantastic too, love the oldies theme! I really wish we had places like this in New England. So yes, I recommend this place, especially since they close an hour later than most restaurants in the area. A smart business strategy backed by an upkeep in quality and taste. Great prices too, very budget friendly. read more

Milk Shake Review Read the reviews of Nifty Fifty's and it appears obvious that the food is average at best, but the shakes are extraordinary. Armed with that fact, I walked in to the new Nifty Fifty's to order a milk shake only and skip the food disappointment. The shake menu is large (and expensive). I ordered Key Lime Cheesecake flavor and stood in the waiting area for it to be delivered to me for take out. Fifteen minutes later it reached me in its silver plastic pseudo malted blender sleeve, looking like a soda fountain blast from the past. The chill of the ice cream left condensation on the container, making it all the more attractive, and authentic. And, it was delicious. Cool, sweet, with strong key lime pie flavor, with pieces of cheesecake graham cracker crust throughout. Not meant for diabetics, it was worth the risk to try it at least once, and compensate the next day with less sugar. Loved it! 5 sweet slurry stars for Nifty Fifty's shakes! read more

The food at any nifty fifty's you go to is generally good , so food wise I would say 8.5 out of 10. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow due to the fact that there were only a few cooks. Between the 15 minute wait for the table and the 40 minute wait for food we were there way longer than we should've been. Hopefully once the hype dies down it won't be as busy. read more

I went yesterday for a burger and fries. The server Stephanie was excellent. She made sure my order was prepared gluten free as I requested.I have to be gluten free for medical reason. I had the delicious burger on two large pieces of lettuce, had tomato, onions, cheese. Perfection (no more paying extra for a gluten free bun, where most of the time don't care for. The small order of fries was huge. The large probably would have been enough for a whole table. I liked watching the video about the preparation of the food where everything is hand made. Interesting that it's all done my hand and no already packaged food. The restaurant is very clean, and fun type atmosphere. I was very pleased with everything, didn't get a milkshake but definitely will have one next visit. It was a very enjoyable lunch. Already looking forward to my next visit. read more

IF I COULD GIVE THIS A 0 I WOULD!!!!! A few months ago, when Nifty Fifty's first opened, I went in to order a milkshake with my boyfriend. There were two sweet young ladies at the register. One of them was crying and clearly trying to hide it, while the other girl rubbed her back and comforted her before we came up to the register. I asked what was wrong, and she said she had fallen. Not even a minute later, a manager came up (she was wearing a shirt that said "Manager") and said to the girl, "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I just didn't feel like having a hurt employee." I was in shock. I felt horrible for her. I haven't gone back since because of what appeared to be poor treatment of their staff. Today, after my niece's graduation, I decided to stop in for some fries and a shake. Horrible idea. I walked in and was not greeted. I was stared at, given dirty looks, and I'm pretty sure an employee took my picture. The girl who took my order was wearing gloves and was boxing food with the same gloves on. I can't complain about the taste of the food, but I think both the cleanliness and the treatment of staff need a BIG upgrade. read more

Came in 11:20 AM on a Sunday: apart from two tables, the entire place was empty... We were seated in the back corner booth in a nook away from everything. We're here for ambiance (you can get a burger anywhere) so we ask if we can get a different table, considering 95% of the tables were empty. Isabelle (Isabella?) seemed frazzled and vacant at the same time; she just stared around the restaurant with no answer. We ask can we sit in X, Y, Z booths trying to give suggestions, until she offers a booth on the edge of the restaurant. There's about a dozen other waitresses/workers standing there clearly staring at us, clearly talking about and whispering about us, the tall woman at the counter visibly rolled her eyes. This was all under two minutes, then we walked out...I'm sorry, your restaurant was basically EMPTY and you had about a dozen waitresses standing around doing nothing. Why couldn't we just sit in one of the many, many empty booths? Is that really that insane of a question to merit rolling your eyes and laughing at us like we asked for a free meal? We used to go to the Grant avenue location because the one on street road burned down awhile back but so happy that they just opened this location and I'm happy to say the food is still the same good old way. The service was great even though they were super busy and the place was super clean considering the amount of people that were there, our waitress Angela was nice and funny, the food took a bit to get to us but that's expected when you just open a week ago but the food was still hot when it did get to us, we cant wait to go back but might wait a bit for the crowds to die down. read more

I am so disappointed by this one! I had been looking forward to this place opening forever. Our server was top notch! And our milkshakes were too! Unfortunately our meals were not. I would only come back here to get milkshakes. We ordered burgers and both were cold, fries that all had an unpleasant flavored seasoning, chicken nuggets for the kids that had the same seasoning. The kids didn't eat and I had to go home and cook food for them. For $90~ after tip, I felt like I really spent a lot of money on an experience that was just a miss. I'll say it again, they had great milkshakes and great service. I would never eat actual food here again :( read more

We went in there for lunch today. Ordered burgers and fries. I wanted chili on mine. The very nice waitress asked me if I wanted a small or large order of fries. Small sounded good. I really wanted to try their chili. Then we waited. And waited. The kitchen looked chaotic. The waitress comes back saying you have to get a large fries to get chili. OK. my wife says she watched the manger take an order of fries from our waitress with chili on them saying "absolutely not" appearing to berate our waitress in front of the other employees. Our burgers and my wife's fries finally come out. We ate our food. Still no chili fries. I finally grab our waitress and told her to cancel them. I paid our bill. They still charged me for the chili fries. Somebody owes me an order of chili fries or my money back. The waitress was very nice. The manager (-all in black) should have just let her give me the original order of fries. I wasn't complaining about anything. She could have charged me extra and I wouldn't have said a word. The manager should be told not to dress down the employees in front of other employees and the customers. She also she be told to keep the kitchen moving, the waitress had my fries how I ordered them in her hands and the manager took them away. I'm not some raging Karen. If you look at the rest of my reviews, I usually only make positive ones. The food we did get was delicious. The manger needs to be dealt with. read more

Showed up Sunday evening. Everything tasted like it was fried in old dirty oil from last week. Onion rings had a weird after taste. Chicken tenders had no flavor. Fries tasted as another review stated "like butt". I ordered the filet mignon sandwich only for the waiter to come back after 15 minutes and tell me they were out of it. I asked for a cheesesteak instead, they were out of that too. I ended up with a bacon cheeseburger that was so greasy it dissolved the bun. The staff was so inexperienced, service so slow. I don't know why I didn't walk out. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. If you are a foody, I don't think this is the place for you. It will disappoint you, I promise. read more

i rate this a three star. as i write this, i am currently in the restaurant still. now i am outside. all i see when i look around is checkers checkers checkers. i ate a hotdog, a plain one, with a ridiculously long ass name. why does everything have a long ass name? why... is everything... nifty? nifty soda? it comes from a fountain. nifty herself cant even make a soda, but fresh nuggets? yeah, ok, keep cheating me out. not to mention, they gave me a potato. a big, fat, quarter of a potato. a nifty potato if you will. hint: i didn't eat it. why would i? the fries taste like butt. read more
