Jamie, our Martha Washington tour guide, was awesome. She is funny and told awesome tales. Pub stops were great. We had a great time in this beautiful town.

My wife and I just moved to the area and wanted get a feel for Old Town Alexandria so we thought it would be fun to take a walking tour with Nightly Spirits. Kate was an outstanding and knowledgeable host who guided us through the streets and alleys of Old Town and regaled us with some ghostly tales. Many of us were recruited to act our the part of those who met their untimely demise, but fortunate my wife and I were spared along the way and lived to tell the tale. Each of the four stops were fun and enjoyed some fortified spirits with some lively company...unfortunately no unearthly sightings, but we will be back to explore some more.

The guide was knowledgeable and responsive to the group's many questions. There are so many stories left untold in our history books and our guide introduced us to early luminaries in the Black community in Alexandria, like doctors, civil rights attorneys, property developers and organizers of churches and social clubs. We even visited a cemetery from the 1800s where freedmen were buried after the war. Standing there, I had such a powerful feeling. These were REAL people, not just faceless characters from a book. Know before you go: This is a small, locally owned and operated business. Don't expect 24/7 operators to take your call. If you are from out of town, it gets hot here in the summer! Our guide had water bottles for us and the bus was air conditioned (not on arctic blast but it was nice). Do expect a caring and personal experience. You'll be glad you went!

We've spent the past year enjoying the sights and restaurants of Old Town waterfront so we were excited to learn about the history of the black community here. John Chapman was an excellent tour guide - highly recommend this tour company for anyone living or visiting in Alexandria, particularly families and schools!

The tour was at 6:30 pm in the daylight. When we got to the first exhibit, she said she didn't know where the lighting was or how it would look. Since I live in northern Virginia, I have been able to take many tours of Arlington Cemetery by many companies, but this tour was completely unique. Brenda, our tour guide, did an amazing job of explaining the deep connection of Arlington Cemetery to World War I, the birth of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, why the Tomb is guarded, 24-7, General Robert Pershing, and it was all fantastic, but she also showed us the Gravesite of James Reese Europe, the African American pre-Jazz great who fought for and was injured with the Fighting 369th, nicknamed the Harlem Hellcats. Possible the most amazing story was that of fellow Fighting 369th member Henry Johnson who single handedly took on 20 German Fighters and won, saving the life of his partner who had been injured. I highly recommend this tour, even if you have already gone on tours of Arlington Cemetery. It will show you a side of our military history that most tours miss!
