Highly recommend if you're looking for an omakase in Jersey City. I got the whole omakase bar to myself most of my meal since I came on a random week night. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I loved how the flavors complement each other, instead of overpowering the dish. Every piece is carefully put together. Would love to come back for another meal!

I went near closing to order takeout bara chirashi and seaweed salad. The food was ready really quickly and the fish was very fresh! The seaweed salad is a little salty to me. The place itself looks quite nice and I would come back to dine-in in the future.

Just got back from this awesome omakase. Jason, the owner and head chef, really outdid himself this time. Nigiri is basically an extension of Honshu, taking up the elevated, exterior walkway in front. It has beautiful views and the overall experience is great, with a delicious 15 courses at a very reasonable price point. They also have a solid drink menu, again with very reasonable prices. I love restaurants like this where they don't try to gouge the customers and the owner has a really good vibe, where you can tell he cares about the customers and providing a great experience for them. We loved every course, and Jason was very generous with the uni as it was included in several dishes! Even the house made creme brulee was amazing. Honestly, I love finding places like these, where you feel like the experience and food is so worth it to spend your hard earned money, and you feel good supporting restaurants that do things the right way.

Excited to see this new omakase spot open up, which also specializes in elevated temaki (handroll) sets. Our friends tried the temaki sets while my husband and I opted for the rice bowls. Everything was fresh, delicious, and presented beautifully. My bara chirashi bowl was like a small work of art, presented in a jewelry box style of colorful cuts of fish and topped with ikura. It had so much flavor in each bite! My husband's tuna bowl was also fantastic, and I loved the added crunch of the seaweed crisps. If you're hungry though, I would say that the bowls are a bit small and weren't completely filling. Also, don't let the appearance of an outdoor structure fool you - although it was cold outside, the walls here are well insulated, and the extra warmth of the heat lamps and the cozy decor felt both comfortable and inviting. It actually seemed like the ambiance was a bit nicer than inside Honshu! Looking forward to returning to try their other dishes.

Cozy, unassuming spot right next to Honshu on Greene Street! We usually go to Honshu, but decided to try this spot out. They have their own menu and also allowed you to order off of the Honshu menu as well. There were good vegetarian options- I had the avocado and mango roll and miso soup. My fiance tried to sushi "taco" and enjoyed! Prompt service and a good vibe! Worth checking out if you're in the area

    15 course omakase ($120)

Absolutely amazing. My friend and I had the 15 course omakase ($120) on a Friday evening at 5:30 at the counter. Everything was super fresh and well-presented. Service was great, chefs explained each dish, and the restaurant had a clean and modern aesthetic. I was worried that the place would be drafty, but we were comfortable. This was a lovely experience.

Located in the downtown area of Jersey City is the restaurant Nigiri. The ambiance is very cozy I'd say. So Nigiri is literally the omakase counter itself and the restaurant is separate. The service was spot on. The server was very personable and the head chef was friendly and engaging. He explained all the pieces clear and concise. I opted for the 17 course omakase which was $150.00. The meal started off right away with 4 appetizers. There was a Kumamoto Oyster, Ankimo, a minced toro dish with caviar on a toast point / cracker , and lastly the chawanmushi. My only gripe with this was, on the tray they served it was a big tree twig with leaves . It definitely got in the way of eating . Other than that , everything was fine. The nigiri was next, and each piece was crafted by the chef perfectly. The fish was fresh and tasty; Each individual nigiri was nicely offset by their own toppings. I definitely had some personal favorites; one of them was the hand roll and the end of the nigiri course. It was so good I ordered a second one lol . Finally , the dessert. It was a green tea matcha crème brûlée. It was very tasty and a great way to close the meal. Overall, I was very impressed by Nigiri. From beginning to end. The NJ omakase scene will never come close to NYC but the experience at Nigiri is a great start. I will definitely be coming back to try the temaki set in the future . Jersey City stand up ! Nigiri is definitely a must try.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely time here . It's definitely a good idea to book in advance if you want to come here on a Friday or Saturday evening. Slots were getting booked quickly in the days leading up to the weekend. Sunday evening was very available though. The sushi chef is very friendly, which made the experience even better. The first course was a beautiful ensemble of small tasty dishes. Each nigiri that followed was specially prepared by the chef one by one. Each had its own unique profile of flavors . The choices of fish covered a broad array of types - all fresh and tasty in their own right. I particularly liked the tastes of yuzu, egg yolk, sweet potato and shiso that appeared in various pieces. The dessert was the last course. It was two choices of a matcha-flavored dessert .

There are two types of dining at Nigiri, omakase and standard seating. If you do not reserve specifically for omakase - you cannot have omakase. Learned this the hard way. While I was hoping for that, in ending up with the starters and TeMaki hand rolls I was still very pleased with dinner. We started with truffle edamame and the shishito peppers. The peppers and sauce were stellar and packed nice heat. When it came time for the TeMaki, Nigiri coursed these out one by one so it still had that omakase feel. We all opted for the "6 TeMaki" and then added a few more in that weren't included in that menu. My personal favorites were the lean tuna and the scallop! The only low point of the meal was the truffle edamame - the truffle essence was barely there, and it just felt like dry edamame. I'd skip this item if I returned.

Honshu Lounge is a Jersey City institution - serving up quality sushi and Japanese dishes since 2005. I am happy to report that it's sister restaurant is poised to be an institution for years to come. I was able to sneak away for a couple hours to sit at the counter with Chef Jason for a lunch omakase - it is a true luxury when you can have flexibility from work and kid so this was a very rare and special occasion for me. My wife and I ordered an appetizer, the lunch omakase, and an additional 3 temaki set. Appetizer - Tuna Tartare served with nori chips - really mellow tuna at room temperature, not too cold or firm, spread onto sheets of nori fried into a chip. This was a great way to start the meal - recommended even if you have an omakase on the way! The lunch omakase - An arranged appetizer course, 7 pieces of nigiri, 2 temaki rolls, and dessert. The appetizer course is arranged onto a wooden tray and is great for fans of ikura. Ours had a kuamamoto oyster topped with uni and ikura, a slice of monkfish liver topped with ikura, and chawanmushi in the egg shell topped with ikura. It was aesthetically pleasing and a delicious way to kick off the meal. The seven pieces of nigiri were all really delicious as well - the set started off with a mild sea bream and ended with a heavyweight piece of otoro. As we progressed through the pieces, there were some innovative takes by Chef Jason that were unique and different from other places. I particularly enjoyed the usage of chili crisp on the yellowtail, and the sweet potato crunch on the snapper. Of course, the king salmon and the otoro pieces were decadent and oily (in the best way possible) and satisfied the taste buds. The temaki rolls came out after - for a less decadent lunch, you can come to Nigiri for a 3, 4, or 5 roll set menu instead of sitting down for a couple hours at the counter. Sized to be about 2 pieces of nigiri worth of fish, I threw them down in a single bite... I hate stuff spilling out :) The rolls that came with the meal were a double stacked layer of uni and a scallop served with corn (it totally worked)! Dessert was a green tea creme brulee that signaled to your belly that your meal was complete. The 3 temaki combo - before we got our creme brulee, our hedonistic selves wanted more deliciousness, so we ordered this to see what this temaki was all about. Salmon, Yellowtail, Tuna - each one was delicious. I could see this being a great normal workday type of treat. Anyway, kudos and congratulations Jason for the expansion of your business. Wish you all the best, keep pushing forward with your vision of bringing great food to the area and I'll keep coming back to eat!

My friend and I went to omakase last night and it was one of the best we've had so far. Every piece blew our minds, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Chef is amazing and made the experience great :)

I think this omakase experience is very intimate and the food was so good! We did the 17 course omakase and I think it was $100. It also came with sake. Amazing food, but felt scammed on the bill…read more I visited Sushi by Bou in Jersey city last Saturday night for their 17‑course omakase, which is advertised at 150 dollars per person. My cousin and I were genuinely impressed at first - every piece of sushi was delicious, the fish tasted fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. For most of the meal, it felt like a great high‑end dining experience. The problem came at the very end. The host asked if we wanted anything else, and I specifically asked what our options were and how much they would cost. I was told we could order any of the original 12 pieces à la carte, but when I asked the price per piece, the host hesitated and never actually answered the question. Then the bartender and sushi chef said, "Give them all 12 pieces. Run it back," in a way that made it sound like it was part of the experience, not an extra charge. At no point did anyone clearly state the price of these additional pieces or indicate that this would significantly increase our bill. When the check came, it was close to 700 dollars for two people who started with a 150‑dollar‑per‑person omakase and only had about a drink each. Every extra piece had been charged individually at full price, even though I had directly asked how much it would be. Instead of feeling taken care of, we left feeling misled and scammed. A wonderful meal was completely overshadowed by the lack of transparency at the end. All it would have taken was a simple explanation like, "Additional pieces are X dollars each," so we could make an informed decision. Because that did not happen, it feels like the upsell was intentional and deceptive. The sushi itself was excellent, but I cannot recommend this place until they are honest and upfront about pricing for add‑ons and do a better job of respecting their customers. Transparency matters just as much as good food.

Saka has a solid offer of Any 3 Rolls for ~$20. Their selection of rolls is more limiting than other places; would love if they had yellowtail or scallop as options at lunch. Nonetheless, the rolls I got were solid! The fish was fresh and the portion was great, the rice layer wasn't thick at all which is a big factor for me, and to my surprise, it came with both a miso soup & salad. The miso soup was pretty flavorful compared to others I've had and the salad came with a sesame dressing that was so refreshing with the crisp salad. I should've kept my order at that as the Crispy Spicy Salmon wasn't worth it. The crispy rice was slightly too hard/over-fried and the portion of spicy salmon was so tiny. The rice layer should be fully topped with salmon, unlike what they gave. It didn't taste half bad but I'd probably skip it next time. If you order for delivery, their insulated packaging is great for transport and temperature control. Solid try!

The third course: 2 hand rolls of your choice. I liked this because you can eat 2 hand rolls fast enough that the seaweed doesn't get too soggy. We've visited almost every Thursday during the winter, and the dining room has repeatedly been uncomfortably cold. Most guests, including us, kept our jackets on throughout the meal. When we asked about it, we received conflicting explanations: the manager said the heat had just been turned on because dinner service was starting, while our server told us the heater was broken. Given that we experienced the same issue earlier in the winter -- when space heaters were set up -- it seems like a known problem that hasn't been properly addressed. The bathrooms were even colder, which made things especially uncomfortable. On top of that, the bathroom fixtures had rough, visible trim/paste around the edges, which looked unfinished and unappealing. The food quality has also slipped. The Korean fried chicken bites used to be a favorite, but this time they tasted like plain store-bought chicken breast with only a light drizzle of gochujang -- barely enough to notice any flavor. When our drinks arrived, the server joked that they would "warm us up," which felt a bit tone-deaf given how cold the space was. As a long-time customer, it's disappointing to say this will likely be our last visit.
