It lacks the flavor that nigiri at omakase spots have due to lack of garnishes and whatnot but that's like comparing apples and oranges so not factoring that into the review. Compared to a more similar spot, Sushi 35 West, the nigiri here feels much larger (too large for me to really consider this nigiri) and has less variety. This set is also a lot cheaper, to be fair, but it'd be nice if there were a separate sampler set with unique pieces. Quality here is on par or even better than Sushi 35 West so that's a plus. Sushi from a truck isn't a comon concept, but one that I can definitely get used to. This truck was down the street from where I was located so I thought, why not just give it a try! I'm so glad I did. I was looking for a quick dinner option so I walked up and placed the order for a poke bowl. It was quickly assembled and handed back to me so I could transport it back to eat. I got a salmon poke bowl which consisted of edamame, seaweed salad, salmon, mango, peppers, avacado, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and rice. Everything tasted very delicious and fresh. I'm not going to lie, when I first heard about this I was a bit skeptical. Sushi from a food truck? How does that work? The ratings were through the roof though so we decided to give it a shot. The price point is a bit higher than your standard/regular tier sushi so be mindful of that. We wanted to try a bunch of things and of course, they thought we ordered for way more than 2 people as a result! We ended up trying the following rolls: sweet potato, salmon avocado, spicy crunchy salmon, spicy crunchy tuna avocado, a special scallop roll and the Peace special roll. We also got the tuna bomb appetizer to try! For the most part, the rolls traveled pretty well. The appetizer did look a little bit like a blob but it was a very tasty blob! Every bite was very flavorful and the avocado at the bottom worked well with the tuna and the texture of the tobiko on top! Sweet potato rolls were sort of a random find that I came across after eating sushi with vegetarian friends. When made well, they're delicious! The portion size of Wisp sweet potato rolls was quite generous but I prefer when the sweet potato is fried and has the crispiness from tempura and this wasn't that type of roll. The other regular rolls we got were great. The fish was fresh and I was a big fan of the crunchy texture of the spicy salmon and spicy tuna avocado. The special scallop roll was very focused on the scallop and you could taste the slight popping of tobiko since it was layered on the outside. A very clean and minimalist take on scallops. The last special roll was my least favorite but that was because I wasn't a fan of one of the types of fish inside the roll. It tasted a bit fishy to me and didn't agree with me. However, my partner loved it. My true rating would probably be more like a 4.5 since it wasn't perfect but I rounded up because the overall quality was very solid and noticeably different from other sushi spots. They had a unique bonus as well with some of their other items (appetizer and special rolls) which was a plus. Hands down this is the best sushi in Jersey city and even if I didn't live here I'd travel for it. It has replaced all of my favorite sushi spots in NJ in terms of ranking. The only thing I will say is that if you're expecting a thin/small piece of fish on your nigiri it is quite a thick piece so I didn't enjoy that so much. But I'm particular when it comes to nigiri. I was skeptical from the very start and couldn't believe it, but my friends (who are regulars and go there every week) told me it's some of the best they have ever had. And they were RIGHT. The menu was so overwhelming that I let them pick. I loved the crazy shrimp, but everything was so very very very very good. We also had the tuna, spicy tuna, black pepper tuna and yellowtail jalapeno. The black pepper tuna was my MOST favorite roll of them all. Every Saturday the Wisp truck is located right outside my apartment. It's so convenient but dangerous as I'm always tempted to order. I've had Wisp 4 times now and every order has been great. The first time I ordered I was very skeptical - sushi from a food truck, surely it wouldn't be that good. But I was pleasantly surprised and I've been hooked ever since. The guys are are so friendly and offer greet customer service. They're so really quick. I order, take my dog for a quick walk and the foods ready. So far I've tried a mixture of the basic rolls and the specialty rolls and every roll has been great. I'm a big fan of all you can eat sushi from one restaurant in particular because you get so much food for a good price but I really enjoy adding Wisp to the mix. Prices are reasonable and you get big pieces of fish and you can really taste the quality. Plus I love shopping small/supporting a local business. read more

You need to eat at Wisp Express. For fast sushi, large sushi portions, and delicious rolls, Wisp beats all the fast casual places in Jersey City hands down. Their prices are great as well for the amount of food that you receive. You can't compare Wisp to Domodomo or Sushi by Bou because those places do not provide the same offerings. My favorites are the fatty toro sushi and the uni sushi (both are specials so look on instagram for when they have them available). The fatty toro is tender and the uni is sweet and not briney tasting. The Hudson Roll is my favorite roll. I'm fortunate to have them close to me on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sushi from a truck - what a novel concept... and it works! I've only recently been able to track down Wisp Express in my neighborhood but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be a long-standing customer. I've taken out from here twice in the wintertime (for context) and have ordered primarily nigiri to go. I love the fact that these guys have premium cuts on offer. There's something that triggers your brain's happy center when you know you can get a good piece of toro from a truck and it is a nice big piece of initially firm, then meltingly soft tuna that makes your eyes roll back a little bit. Say what you will about comparative prices to a restaurant, but I would counter that no restaurant on the east coast would serve you pieces this size for the price they charge. From our experience, I think we would definitely go with white tuna, yellowtail, toro, and scallop as our base order going forward. Then we'll try something new each time, but those 4 are really solid choices that make a good foundation for a meal. Looking forward to when ikura and uni are in stock as well. The only downside to Wisp, and this may be only a wintertime thing and applicable to all takeout sushi during this season, is that the rice stiffens up on my walk home from the truck. If only we could preserve the heat on the rice a bit better, *chef's kiss*. I'm considering bringing one of those insulated bags in my backpack at all times so that I can shield my precious food from the elements on the way home. Anyway, congrats Bowen and team. I can't begin to describe my disappointment in trying Wisp for the first time, it also came highly recommended from some of my friends who are very particular about sushi. Their prices are similar to Domo domo in JC (which isn't cheap), yet the quality was so much worse. I ordered the 10 piece sushi with a roll, but there were maybe only 5 unique cuts of fish? I had picked the salmon roll, and so they decided it would be a good idea to give me 3 pieces of salmon?? This was the first time I had ever ordered sushi anywhere they gave me multiples, and of cheaper cuts of fish. The salmon was chewy, the tuna was so fishy I ended up throwing away a piece (because again, they doubled up). I used to bemoan the fact that there weren't any good everyday sushi spots in Jersey City but now that I've found Wisp, my life here is basically complete. They have a great selection of classic maki in the $5-7 range e.g. Yellowtail Scallion, Eel Avocado, Salmon Avocado just to name a few of our favorites. Some of our other favorites: + Crazy Shrimp ($13.75): Hot and crispy shrimp tempura and avocado on the inside + crunch baby lobster salad on the outside = perfection. We have learned to get two of these because it's so good that my husband and I each want a whole one! + Negi Toro Maki ($13.50) + Yellowtail Nigiri ($3/pc): You know a place has good quality fish when their nigiri game is on point! Not only is the food fantastic, Bowen and his team are so friendly and really take their time to get to know their customers and even learn their names. This is a long overdue review for the best sushi spot in Jersey City.  We've been visiting Wisp since about the beginning of the pandemic and have been continuing to order since then.  You check out their Instagram to see their daily location and of any specials available.  Ordering is easy, you can call ahead and place your order or walk up to their truck. Onto the goods.  The sushi is sooo good and to think that it comes from a food truck is even more astonishing.  The quality of the fish and foods is excellent, be on the lookout for their specials such as toro, uni, scallops soooo good.  They are not cheap when it comes to the quality and portion sizes. You can't go wrong with anything that you order from them.  Bowen and staff are more than friendly. The best sushi in all of Jersey City/Hoboken is on the Wisp Express Food Truck - I promise you! I first tried Wisp last fall and I have loved it ever since. All the owners on the truck are the nicest people ever & really care about your customer experience. The second time I ever ordered, they all made a point to learn my name & haven't forgotten yet! They made me feel like a loyal & valued customer from the beginning, and I swear that really ups the experience for me. Whenever I see them it's like running into old friends & I just love my experience every time I go to the truck! The food is simply incredible too! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but there are some "must try's", like the Shrimp Shumai! I recommend them steamed, they melt in your mouth & pair perfectly with the sauce. I've never been a huge fan of Shrimp Shumai before Wisp but now it's one of my favorites because of how they prepare it! In terms of rolls, the Toro Maki is one of the best preparations of Toro I've ever had. It has the perfect bite and the flavor is amazing every time. And if you love the classics, the Shrimp Tempura Avocado is an 11/10! I also suggest you get Tobiko on all your rolls, it really enhances the flavor :) I genuinely could go on & on about Wisp Express for days because it's truly the best dining experience I've ever received from a food truck but I'll leave you with this - Bowen and his team put their hearts into this sushi every single day, without fail. Ordered from their food truck the other day. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous ordering sushi from a food truck - will it be fresh? I'm so glad I took the risk. Sushi craving was completely satisfied! For the price per roll, it is so worth it. It's not the best or the freshest sushi I've had, but it is damn good for the price you're paying. It's impossible to find $5-6 rolls of sushi in JC. Plus convenience of the truck near my apartments means I might have sushi once a week now My only complaint is how long it took for them to make the order. It took about an hour for me to pick up my order and I was starving. I was hoping because they were a good truck, it would be prepared relatively quick. And I was ordering at 3pm in the afternoon so it's not like I came during a lunch hour rush. I saw the amount of tickets they have and they were inundated, so I can forgive the wait time, but just be prepared that your order can take up to an hour for pickup at their food truck. I want to try their specialty rolls next or their soba. They have a wide range on their menu and I'm excited to have more of it. Will be ordering from here again! read more

Wow. I'll be the first to admit, when the sushi food truck was coming to our community in Jersey City, the sushi snob in me was full of doubt. But after talking with a trusted friend who had tried Wisp, they convinced me it was worth the try. Honestly I was blown away the first time we tried it. The fish was so fresh, the ratio of rice was just right, and there was no clumpy ground up mush fish in sight. This food truck was serving up some of the best sushi I have ever had. This past weekend, we were hosting a surprise party for my dad's 60th birthday, and sushi had to be on the menu! My dad is the king of sushi, he gets it 2-3 times per week, and he's got very high standards. Any time I've moved, I've had to be sure to get his seal of approval on the local sushi place first, otherwise we'd never go out for dinner. I knew Wisp would knock his socks off and the fact that they also do catering made them perfect for the surprise! About a week before the surprise, I placed my order with Bowen, who took customer service to the next level. He really cared about our order, and took the time to get to know me and about our occasion. The whole Wisp team even wrote my dad a little birthday message. Their delivery was right on schedule, and again the sushi and all the accoutrements were perfectly organized and ready for when my guests would arrive! Not more than two minutes after my dad's big arrival he was by the sushi trays and gave his rave review! He couldn't believe how fresh the fish tasted.
