First impressions are not always the right impression. Or at least this is the case with Nikko Kennels.
My husband and I wanted a Yorkie but did not want to buy one without seeing it, or buy it from a pet store - which left us to find a local Yorkie breeder. I found their website by google-ing "Yorkie San Diego" and even through the site is out dated - I figured I would give them a call.
The first time I called in June 09 I talked to Star and she said that they just had a litter and that I should call back in a month to set-up an appt. to see the puppies.
I did just that and called back in July, but Star told me that they had sold all the Yorkies. I was so sad and frustrated because she told me that she didn't need to take my contact information before since they do not allow anyone to see the Yorkies before the first month. When I pushed her on the issue, she told me that they have such a good reputation that people buy their Yorkies without seeing them.
She did promise to take my name and number and to call me when they had their next litter; which she did do about four months later (Oct 08).
When we went to see the litter we were greeted with over 20 Yorkies running around in the back yard barking. The home itself was dusty, dirty and smelled really bad. I actually got a sinus infection after being there the first time.
However, the puppies and the dogs were really healthy and wonderful. We found our little Yorkie Clarence and have been SOOOO happy with him. We got to meet him twice before we took him home, which was wonderful. We also got to meet his brothers and sisters, mom and dad.
If you can get passed the lack of organization, poor communication, and the way the house looks - the dogs are of a great breed.
