Was so thrilled to find a Japanese restaurant in Liberal. I am from a large city and it is one of my favorite foods. Every time I visit my family here they take me to the same place. The prices at Ninja are strangely comparable with where I live. The portions were a bit small but easily shared with someone else. The fried rice had no flavor and is not worth the extra money. Today I wanted to just take my mother out for lunch since she enjoys these type of cuisines. We went in and she wasn't sure if their dining area was open or closed since their lights were off and chairs were up on the tables. She kindly asked if they were open to dine in or just taking to go orders, to which the man at the sushi station responded back with "What do you think?" in a condescending manner. Along with the woman making faces. We sat down and I just didn't like how they treated my mother over a simple question and she didn't really register the moment until I told her we shouldn't give them our business. So we walked out without ordering and went next door to Pho Viet, the staff were way friendlier there and had fair prices with great portions. Treated us with courtesy and respect. They earned a large tip from us. It was just a disappointing first time experience for my mother since she never dined in there, and we had ordered a few times for take out since she loves the jalapeño roll. But I simply will not be coming back after today, we didn't mean to annoy anybody there over a question. Please be kinder towards customers that are looking to pay for great service and food that seems to be a lil overpriced for lack of portion and seemingly.. lack of respect for customers who are just curious. read more

I understand rating by locale, and it is still 2* .... service is almost abrasive and so hurried you can barely get words out of your mouth, restaurant was less than half full. I love how they practically shout for a to-go call-in "you come in 13 minutes!" instead of something normal like most restaurants such as "your order should be ready in about 13 minutes, thank you." The food was the smallest portions I have ever seen and charged larger city prices (I can eat cheaper and better in Wichita, Manhattan, or KC, or really any where in the midwest) ... food totally average, maybe even sub-par. Maybe their non-sushi stuff is better? Doubt the service is. And the real capper, no Miso soup. And edamame that is so massively over-salted it puckers your lips after a few beans, and aparently no Sake, beer, nor wine. So if you want a Asahi Dry or Sapporo I guess you bring it from the store/home? As the saying goes, your mileage may vary. But skip this and find a different cuisine, there are many places in the area that I am sure are better values and friendlier staff. read more

Maybe due to it being the only sushi place here, it has high rating? it was ehhh. It's expensive for the portion. I ordered 3 thing on the menu and it cost me $54.... And the portion was disappointing. Bento Box: Chicken tempura had no flavor. No season. The breading had zero flavor. It cost an additional $3 for the fried rice and it wasn't true fried rice. Fried rice tossed in soy sauce, a little bit of carrots, dice onions and called it good. 1 micro springrolls at the size of the pinky and 1 over fried dumpling. Sushi was okay. It's a California roll. $19?? I don't think it was worth it. SUSHI dinner: I ordered a sushi dinner that was suppose to come with 8 pcs chefs choice of sushi roll and they gave me sashimi nigiri??? If I wanted raw sushi, I would've ordered the sashimi deluxe that was on the menu???? Plus the 1 California roll. Everyone knows a whole roll comes in 8 pcs?? :/ It's alright. I have eaten here twice since I've been in town and both times were a good experience. Got the sushi both times, and it's amazing. The staff are very friendly and service is fast. The place is clean and child friendly. All of our kids loved their food as well. Definitely recommend. Food is amazing. read more

What can you expect in Liberal Kansas? Guess I needed to lower my expectations. I've worked in the service industry including in restaurants so I have a high standard for good service. When I asked a question about an item on the menu, the waitress didn't know and she didn't bother to ask. Then she just laid the bill down when I hadn't finished and didn't ask for it. The sushi was okay and I know she had a lot of tables but she didn't seem too concerned with me or the fact that she really doesn't know that much about sushi or etiquette when it comes to the bill. I was taught that you should always know about the products you are working with and when you don't you ask and you never give someone the bill unless they ask. It's pretty much like saying "here to go, now leave." I still tipped her though. read more

It's not bad taking into consideration that its sushi...in Kansas. We stayed the night in liberal while traveling across country and ordered out some sushi and some veggies from here. I picked it up and the inside looks like it needs some work but once again I wasnt expecting much from a shushi place in KS. The food was good and no one got sick! read more

Not great food, but not terrible either. I came here for dinner and ordered a steak and shrimp hibachi option. The food came out quickly. The steak was overcooked and a few of my pieces were burnt on the outside, which was a bit of a letdown since I asked for it to be cooked medium. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and had a pod seasoning to them. There was a lot of rice with this dish, but I really wish there would have been more vegetables or an option to order brown rice instead of white. The sushi and hibachi plates are really good, but the service is lacking. After ordering a Hibachi shrimp, the cook brought me Hibachi chicken. I was planning to tell the waitress it was not what I ordered, but we never saw a waitress the rest of the night. No checking on the food, no refill of drinks, no ticket brought to table. I just ate it anyway. It was still good. This place does have the best sushi in town, but just don't expect city style service in this small town restaurant. I got the Jumbo Shrimp Dinner to go today. It was seasoned perfect, not too salty, just right. The rice portion was enormous, probably 2 cups, that I won't finish. It took a while to get my to go food but staff was nice and gave me a refill on my drink as I waited. We went here for lunch. Lobster Rangoon was excellent. I had salmon and it was cooked to perfection with veggies and lots of steamed rice. The ladies all had many servings of green tea after our meal it was quiet and enjoyable atmosphere. Our waitress didn't speak fluent English but that's great it made the meal more authentic. Terrible customer service. Here to visit family and wanted sushi. We tried to look the menu up online and there was no description of what came in the sushi rolls. So we tried to call and ask what was their good and basic sushi roll. The woman on the phone would not help us, she told us to find a menu online and call her back. I've only come up here for the sushi which is reasonably priced and very good. The up side is they have eel which has become my new favorite.
