I am so glad I came across Nino's Italian Bakery today. I had all but given up on trying to find a good cannoli in Syracuse. I tried a few other Italian bakeries and was left disappointed. I was not disappointed today. It's a rather small unassuming business, but it has that old school Italian bakery vibe to it. I swear these places are getting harder and harder to find these days. Most of them are family businesses passed down from generation to generation. Anyway, I really liked the whole vibe. When I walked in it smelled great. I asked for a cannoli I was met with the question "regular or ricotta?" You just know my answer was ricotta. Ricotta is the more traditional style. You'll find a lot of places used marscapone in its place, which while still good, can never be as good as a cannoli made with ricotta. The cream and shell were both light and fresh. I loved every bite. They may look big, but I promise they don't eat heavy. I feel great after eating them. The rainbow cookies were above average as were the almond paste cookie and Nutella horn. I really want to go back and try a warm, fresh sfogliatelle, sfingi, rum baba, assorted cookies (yes, they had all the traditional Sicilian classics), biscottis and of course their bread. Long story short, 100% worth the trip to get to. It's as real as you will get in Syracuse and I think this is now going to be the bakery I go to for everything. read more

I don't get into the city of Syracuse that often but when I'm near Nino's I stop in. I love the pastry called "lobster tails"! Not many bakeries around make them well but they do. It's a flaky pastry dough with pastry cream inside. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it because I ate it so quickly. I also love the semolina bread that they make here but they run out so quickly I usually don't get a loaf. We did a taste test for an upcoming wedding. These were the best Italian cookies we tasted in Syracuse. We loved the variety of "meatball" cookies. The pastries were great, too. We got the lobster tail and Nutella horn. The Nutella horn was the best tasting pastry I've ever tasted, flaky layers and soft, velvety pudding-like Nutella on the inside. Make sure you get more than you planned on. Atmosphere is very basic, that's the first clue that the focus was on the baking. Service was quick and the girl who was working out front made sure to get all the answers to our questions. read more

We were scheduled to get married on August 27th, 2022 and 2 days before the wedding we were informed that the people doing our wedding cake would not be able to do so. We went into Nino's and I started crying as soon my Groom explained the situation to the people behind the counter. They immediately started asking questions about what we needed and when we needed it. They put our minds at ease and came up with a wonderful plan from a picture I had on my phone. The day came and they showed up with the cake on time. The cake was both beautiful and delicious! We had 3 different flavors of cake and filling and all were spot on! We were visiting my fiancé's hometown of Syracuse and ordered 2 dozen cannolis for his birthday. We live in Boston, MA and are used to the delicious cannolis from the North End (Italian section) of Boston. These were unfortunately nothing close to those. We all felt the shells tasted stale and the ricotta chocolate chip filling was off. The filling did not taste or feel like all ricotta and it had an artificial taste. Perhaps they use a fake vanilla flavoring? We couldn't put our finger on it, but they were not good at all. Wegmans Grocery Store has much better cannolis than this. I wish we had just ordered from there. The two stars are for their kindness while ordering on the phone, because the cannolis are a 1 star. Sadly, we will not order from here again. read more

It is criminal that Nino's is not listed on Yelp yet with a ton of rave reviews! Nino's is one of the best Italian bakeries I've ever been to. Period. Anytime I've visited Syracuse, I make the treck up Lodi street and grab a box of their almond cookies before returning to NYC/DC/CA. I discovered Nino's because their almond cookies were served at a Syracuse hair salon. I didn't really like the salon that much, but I definitely remembered these cookies! Nino's uses REAL ALMOND PASTE in these little bites of heaven. These cookies are not only almond flavored, they have real almond paste inside, and they are beautifully fluted on the outside with a cherry on the top and soft to bite into. They also have another variation that is sprinkled with almond slices on top but are also filled with almond paste. There's also one more cookie worth mentioning; it's a crunchy version of the almond cookie, and crumbles very delicately in your mouth when you bite into them. Also, like most of Syracuse, Nino's has friendly service and local flavor. They also sell breadcrumbs and a ton of other cookies. Sometimes they run out, so make sure to go early on weekends! I am going to go out on a limb and say that this is the best Italian bakery in Syracuse. I can not comment on the bread but the cookies and pasticciotti are wonderful. I agree with prior reviews that the Almond paste cookies are excellent. Prices are reasonable for italian cookies. $10/lb in a bag/box and $12/lb on a tray. I thought the selection was pretty good but maybe that it because it is the holiday season and they increased what they are producing? The Pustie was yummy! Not the best that I have had but close! First and foremost I want to say that I live in Henderson, NV and was introduced to the almond paste cookies by Jim Crimi who owns J Crimi eyewear boutique in Henderson. I went in the shop to see if my glasses were in and Jim asked if I wanted to try a cookie. He grew up with family trips to the bakery in Syracuse. OMG, these are the authentic almond paste cookies that are perfection! Best I have had in years! Jim's MOM who lives in Syracuse sends him a platter of cookies every year. I was literally blown away by how wonderful these cookies are. I went home and ordered a 3 lb platter to be shipped to me in Nevada and a 3 lb box to be sent to my best friend in California. Notice how I ordered them to my house first! We order them a few times a year now. In fact I just placed an order yesterday to surprise my friend and ordered a large batch to share with my neighbors while we are dealing with the corona virus. Will do front porch delivery. My kid is going to school further out. Hit Syracuse for lunch and my wife found this place on Yelp.....THANK GOD FOR YELP!!! This place is such a small hole in the wall of a place filled with THE BEST ITALIAN sweets and treats ... Usually we hit the North End in Boston. This place COMPLETELY EQUAL TO IT! Beyond excellent breads in a large variety....I was there late, I bet in the mornings it's stocked full! The price is literally less than half of the north end. I could see how popular this place is.. while there no less than 10 customers were helped with many having called in huge orders . Definitely the first of many stops here....Wish I had taken more photos....The case was like an Italian Wonka Dream!!!! read more

I was in CNY recently and having grown up there, I always believed the best cannoli were in Utica. Well now I can save myself the 45 minute drive because this place is legit! I picked up a few cannoli and some other assorted Italian cookies. None of them were disappointing. The cannoli was sweet, creamy and crunchy. My only regret was not buying more! The interior of the shop is pretty lackluster and the Asian woman behind the counter was less than pleasant but neither will deter me from returning. read more

I grew up in Syracuse. On a recent road trip across state, I passed through to visit the old hood and get some bread and pastries. Central New York offers the best Italian breads and pastries I have ever experienced. It's been a very long time since I'd been to Syracuse and was looking forward to picking up some sweet goodies. Believe it or not there is not one place in Buffalo that offers pastcciotti or sfogliatelle!! The pasties were fantastic. Thick rich custard fillings in a soft, moist, and moderately sweet crust. I got all the way home to discover that the sfogliatelle were basically PETRIFIED. Yes, they were THAT STALE. Could not tell this by looking in the case when buying... they were hard as a rock. SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! What a waste. The other cookies are run of the mill, nothing exciting, like something out of a big grocery store's bakery. Not like little neighborhood bakery cookies. They are very commercial tasting/looking. 5 stars for the pasties! Everything else, meh. Advice: make sure you check for freshness before you hand over the cash. read more

The cookies are delicious, but at 10 bucks a pound (50 cents for a tiny cookie), I think that's about how good you should expect them to be. I may have made a mistake going in here. I had only heard about how good the almond paste cookies are, but I had never tried them for myself. Now that I have the taste for them, my waistline could be in serious jeopardy. They are phenomenal. I also tried the cannoli, which were also very good. The prices are on the expensive side, but not unreasonable compared to other bakeries of similar quality. I probably wouldn't pay $2 per cannoli on a regular basis, but the cookies are good enough to warrant the cost. Do yourself a favor and stop in and get at least a small assortment of the almond cookies. You won't regret it. read more
