I was so excited to be in the shop that I totally forgot to take pictures, but I remember saying to myself how I could stay there all day, the only feature missing was a coffee cart! This place is open, tastefully decorated, and inviting both in ambiance and by the sense of community that is welcome to all. There were knitters of all ages coming in, including moms with children. Customer service was great. The lady who assisted me was kind and friendly. The drive to the shop was an adventure and it made me want to consider living in Portland. After a chaotic neighborhood construction, I was SHOCK to discover my beloved Pendelton sweater was bitten and left with many tiny holes In it (Dang you, nieghborhood bugs!). I have been trying to find someone to do the repair and have no luck. Finally I decided to look up knitting shops on Yelp, hoping someone will be able to help. I called Nirto Knitters, and a lady picked up the phone quickly. She was upbeat, friendly and sympathetic. She explained almost no one would do the repair because it always looked "not great" (kinda like a thick patch). However, she recommended the "needle felting" method. I quickly googled it and it looked doable for small holes! Oh I really hope it will works! For this experience, I recommend NItro Knitters for anyone who need knitting guidance. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE! My daughter and I have been in twice and the staff is so kind and helpful and they have a great selection of yarn.

Although this shop is geared towards knitters, it's great for crocheters as well! They have an amazing huge selection, I could spend an hour in there just looking around. They have a good mix of less expensive commercial yarns, as well as pricier hand dyed yarns, and all the weights/thicknesses you could want. I shopped in-store initially, but after starting my project I realized I didn't buy enough. Luckily, with their online shop, I was able to place an order for the exact yarn I needed. They shipped it the next day, and a day after that I had my yarn. They even wound it for me in the shop before shipping! I love this place, and I love how friendly everyone there is. I haven't knitted in quite a while. I was in the area visiting my sisters and decided it was time to take up one of my favorite hobbies again. We went to this shop and it was such a joy looking over all the wonderful yarn. The staff was super helpful! I taught my sister to knit a long while ago and she never stuck with it. However, looking at all the lovely things she too decided to start a project. They helped her pick a pattern and yarn. I was told about this shop just a week after their grand opening. I'm used to walking into brand new shops and finding a bit of chaos. This was not what I found though, I found well organized, brightly lit shop. The staff were very warm and friendly, asking me if I needed help finding anything or if I was just browsing. The yarn selection is very agreeable and they sell a good variety of needles. There are also very many classes available as well. All in all, a very good shop and everyone should stop in! read more

This is my new LYS! I found this place earlier this year, and it's my new staple. Their big thing is local dyers, which I love! I don't produce a ton of knit items, so I like the smaller, more curated selection as opposed to a wider selection of bigger-name brands (like For Yarn's Sake). I've been there probably 7 or 8 times and the employees have always been really friendly and helpful. My husband went in a couple weeks ago to buy me Christmas presents and he kept saying how helpful and nice the employee was (while familiar with my craft, he still relies on the workers at these places for guidance). I visited this shop on a recent vacation to Portland in late July 2017. I loved it! I really wish my town could support a great knitting shop like this. At Nitro Knitters, there were plenty of high quality yarns to choose from, all excellently displayed. When I was there, it looked like a knitter's group was meeting in the back portion of the store. I also noted that some of the patterns displayed were free Raverly downloads. That was a nice touch! I will return to this store the next time I visit Portland. read more

I LOVE this place!! The 2 lovely ladies that were working that evening were extremely helpful. They went over and beyond on their customer service skills by spending time with me to create a pattern and find the correct yarn PAST CLOSING TIME. They have a wide variety of yarn and it is priced slightly higher than what you would find at the craft store but totally worth it. It feels good to support a local business that deserves it! With all the wonderful local dyers around, Nitro Knitters has chosen, and continues to chose fabulous colors and textures from the community. In fact, community seems to be what it's all about. They feature lots of classes (general and specific in nature), social knit times, community knit times with finished projects going to those with need, and a monthly KAL. With staff that "knows their stuff" and who are friendly and helpful, it makes for a relaxed browsing, shopping or knitting experience. There are frequent great sales, classes and trunk shows featuring yarn I would never regularly get to see.
