This yarn shop is amazing! It's a large shop with a ton of different yarn brands in all different weights and fibers. The staff were extremely friendly and super available. While shopping I had three different people kindly offer to help if I needed anything, but they also didn't get in my way of just looking around. They also have a huge selection of Spincycle yarns, which is helpful to see in person because the colors vary so much from skein to skein. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Portland! read more

Went in near the end of the day and did a quick shopping spree! Staff was very kind and all masked, but let me know that it was not required to mask up. They have a wonderful selection of yarn, needles, and other notions. The shop is clean, organized, and well lit. They have a big table that looks comfortable for hanging out and knitting with friends. The ladies working were kind enough to let us use their employee-only bathroom to change our little one's diaper. The selection in this store is good, but the customer service is super spotty. I've purchased from here multiple times, but when I've needed help or asked questions the reactions from staff have been very condescending. I asked once where the weight 4 yarns were and received an eye roll and was told, "I don't know what that means. We go by ply, not weight like commercial crafts stores". This is the closest shop to my home, but I no longer purchase from them even though their inventory is large. my daughter and I are regular participants in the rose city yarn c. two years ago I ordered and paid for two yarn crawl bags to pick up at this store. I didn't go to pick them up on the first day of the crawl. when we arrived on Saturday of the crawl, they had no bags on hold for us. After making purchases and waiting for them to resolve this issue of the bags, the manager in a very snarky manner told us she was giving us her bag and one from an employee. because of the rudeness about their mistake, we no longer shop here when we attend the yarn crawl. my previous interactions with the shop staff have been positive. This place has a large selection. Lots of choices, colors, brands, textures, patterns. Every knitter's dream! Which is why I was saddened that I couldn't get help and decided to purchase yarn elsewhere. When we stopped in I was looking for a certain thickness of yarn to pair with a yarn I already had to work on a project. I shopped for about 15 minutes and found a few skeins that I thought would work. I waiting near the counter another 5 minutes before realizing I wasn't going to be helped. The woman behind the counter was busy with another customer, then another, then another. Not even in the order, we were waiting, just on who she chose next. I felt like maybe I should have cleaned up more before going out, and I'd be taken as a serious shopper. If there were other staff in the store, they weren't noticeable - stocking inventory, maybe somewhere in the back, not sure. I put the skeins of yarn I was planning on purchasing down and left a little bummed, going elsewhere for yarn. We live down by Milwaukie so I'm not planning to go out of my way to shop this place again after receiving no service, but if I were in the area and needing something I might stop in and give this place another try. read more

Another 5 star experience with their on-line service! As expected, I recently ordered 2 more skeins of Spin Cycle Dyed in the Wool for another pattern. Even though the shopping info from USPS was totally messed up this time (it said it was delivered to the store area a few days ago), it still showed up before the main yarn of the pattern (which I still don't have, even though it was ordered days before these were ordered). So they get your order out really quickly and I love the pink bag and tissue paper they use to pack it up. It is awesome to receive and open it! read more

This review is about 10 years in the making. My first visit was pretty unhappy. As a new knitter I was looking for some local knitters to connect with and went to their open knit night. Wow... this is way before the most recent knitting wars and i felt so uncomfortable as the talk turned political and I was really offended by the conversations. I never went back for that, but their selection kept me coming back. They do have a great selection with lots of local yarns. But as many reviews have stated, the customer service is pretty non-existent. There was one younger employee who was super nice and helpful. but the rest were hit and miss, with the owner always being a miss. With so many other stores so close, I don't need to be patronized and condescended to. The latest event that really pushed me over the edge was a last week. I went in, looking for a needle and cord. I was looking to start a new brand of interchangeables. I found the needles, but not the cords. I asked and was told they didn't have them. That is fine, but when I went to look at some other needles, at least half had no price tags, no posted price. i went up to the counter to ask about pricing and I noticed that they had a sign stating that they do not take cash. Well, that is what I had. So instead of continuing to shop, I laid down the needles in my hand and walked out. I ended up going to another store, getting the needles I needed and more than 150$ of other stuff that I may or may not have purchased. There have been other things that made me feel put off (class discounts not given, classes delayed and not finished, etc) I won't be back. I refuse to put up with crappy customer service, and here we are lucky to have plenty of alternatives. read more

It's really nice to see a yarn shop closer to where I live, without having to drive into Portland (anybody that knows me knows I avoid crossing the tunnel whenever possible). I've only been in once or twice, but so far I'm impressed. The energy levels were high, and everybody seemed super friendly. Can I give a 0 star?? I have been shopping at this store for the last couple of years and have spent quite a bit of money on their products. Customer service is hit and miss, mostly miss. I bought a hank of yarn that was a tangled mess and had a couple of breaks in it, so I wanted to swap it out. Immediately they said I must have bugs in my home! I go through about 10 skeins of yarn a week, never had this issue with any other yarn. Nor would a bug be able to tangle this yarn up as badly as it was, but they told me they would wind it for me , fine. While waiting, I asked about knitting machines as I am a crocheter, I wanted to be able to "knit" but got frustrated each time I tried. I finally purchased 2 different knitting machines, (Addi-circular, and Bond-flat panel) While the Addi is super simple, the Bond has a definite learning curve. I told them I was excited to be able to do a few things that I couldn't with crochet. The attitude was less than pleasant by this time though I was purchasing another $200 in yarn. They tell me it's going to take some time to wind my yarn and I should just come back another day. I felt like they were trying to get rid of me at this point. I then look up and see a sign for the Addi machine that I purchased! I asked if they carried replacement parts or any of the products and got snapped at again by one of them. I left and went back a week later to pick up my yarn. My adult daughter noticed several leers and snarky looks from the two older women who had been there the week prior. Once I told her what had happened, she couldn't believe the horrible customer service I had endured. I will never waste my time or money on this small business again! read more

I have just moved to Oregon so off course the first thing I did is start visiting all the yarn stores. At first I was blown away by their book selection which is top notch. The yarn is ok, a few items I might be interested in, but nothing I knit with regularly. I bought a set of Lykke interchangeables and was told about the brand warranty, but also if I jad any issues I could come in within 10 days and they would resolve it. Well I did have an issue 5 days later, one of the sizes didn't screw onto the cords. They told me they didn't have any such policy, they called the owner who also denied it. This wouldn't be so much an issue if I hadn't been told that I could come in. This wouldn't have even been a difficult fix, just swap out with another same size needle and they could do the warranty thing with Lykke. I won't be buying anything else from them ever again (I dropped over $300 on my shopping spree! Guess that isn't important to them). I wouldn't be able to trust anything they say ever again. read more

The knowledge of the staff of the product, its origins, and the pros and cons of types and mixes of fabric was exceptional. This yarn shop is surprisingly nice, considering it's located in a strip mall in Beaverton. The yarn selection is good, with nice hand dyed sock yarns, Debbie Bliss, Handmaiden, and the like. There's a big couch and a tv, and a computer with Ravelry access. I think the woman manning the counter while I was there was the owner, and she was helpful without being overbearing, and even wound my yarn for me. She also told me that they have trunk shows and workshops with local fiber people (dyers, etc). They also carry Ysolda Teague's patterns, so points for that. Personally, I'm going to try to support this store, because it rocks to not have to drive to Portland every time I want to buy yarn! read more

I got a chance to browse through here and was delighted with the place! Sadly I didn't get a chance to add to my stash. A cranky refused to nap toddler and husband limited my ability to really shop. But I will be coming by again real soon. The selection was pretty extensive, and the prices were varied enough to provide for just about every knitter's budget. Definitely a place I would go to either splurge or get something nice for a simple project. The color array is so pretty! So many rainbow like colors. The different options for fibers was great too. Most of the places I've browsed so far are pretty limited in their selection. But not here. The selection is every knitters dream! Their instructor, Anne L., has both a talent for teaching and such a vast knowledge of knitting I'm pretty sure she could teach my golden retriever to knit! Her positivity and patience are next to none. She truly is a gifted instructor. All staff there are extremely helpful and fun, makes shopping for yarn an easy addiction... They have many, many different types of high quality natural fiber yarns to choose from in all sorts of sizes (super chunky to lace weight) and plenty of patterns and samples in store to check out. I probably would have purchased yarn but the lady who is probably in her early 60's with short salt and pepper hair was so unexciting and not very helpful at all. We were the only customers in the store, by the way! I have purchased things from their other store before they moved, just because it was convenient, but I found another store on Alberta Sstreet that has many more varieties that are nicer than here, so will not be returning. I very much like the selection of yarn. This is why I decided to shop for a new project. As I entered the store an employee asked me if I double masked. I had not, wearing only my regular, homemade mask. I have no problem putting on a second mask but they way this was presented to me, that's where I have a problem with. After I told her that I did not wear a second mask, she sighed heavily and said "It's on our website that you need to wear two masks". I don't know about others, but I generally DO NOT check websites of stores I have been to many times. So, I had not checked their website either. She turns around and hand me one of their surgical masks. Wearing two masks now, I checked on a few yarns, bumping into other customers. Per the stores sign, customers have 20 minutes to decide what they want and to complete their purchase. I spend more time trying to avoid customers than looking at yarn. I left frustrated and without yarn. Maybe the owner of the store should be more concerned about how many people are let into the store than having their employees point out that you should have checked their website before coming in. I have a gift card that I will use some day when COVID is under control. Until then, I will shop at the competition. read more

Out of all of the yarn stores I have been to in California, Oregon and Washington, sadly this beautiful shop has the most inconsistent customer service! I wanted to buy some yarn for a shawl pattern that I am making. I mentioned that I was excited about making the shawl, but I have never knitted with lace weight yarn. The associate was so helpful and excited for me. So I returned the following day and asked if I could exchange the yarn I bought for a fingering weight. "There are no exchanges." It was pretty obvious that I had barely tried to knit with the yarn. Then I asked if they had classes in knitting with lace weight yarn. Again with the same treatment, but this time associate said, "Well it's time that you learned." At this point I was stunned and I reluctantly bought a skein of yarn, after I had paid for it and it was wound for me. Sure there is a phenomenal selection of yarn, but serious attitude of some of the employees which is why I am not going to return. There are much better stores in Portland and the Portland area. read more
