The office is well-decorated and cozy with accent walls and aesthetically-pleasing black and white photos of people with ridiculously white teeth. They have complimentary fruit and drinks (orange juice, green tea, water, etc.), free yummy chapstick, and of course your obligatory floss and toothpaste. The exam/cleaning rooms all have nice, big windows, so you can look out the window or watch TV while you are having work done, your choice. Also, you have the option of dipping your hands in a paraffin wax bath for a nice hand treatment as you get your teeth done. Absolutely genius ... I mean, if you're sitting there for an extended period of time anyway, why not? Everyone I interacted with there was very pleasant, but, most importantly, honest. Dr. Alber has a very frank, here's-how-it-is personality, which I really appreciated. He told me I should consider having my wisdom teeth out in the near future, and when I admitted that I thought I would be doing that on my next visit to Peru, he encouraged me. "Heck, they can do it for a lot cheaper than I can -- and they have good dentists!" he said. I really appreciated that because he could have said something like "Well, the only way you can be SURE to have it done well is to go through me." I loved the no-upsale approach. My visit was very cheap; with insurance, it ended up being $22, but without it would have been $110 for cleaning, xrays, and checkup. I will definitely be going back.

Enter Lafayette Dental Excellence. Dr. Leo, Jane, Mary, and Barb are everything I'd hoped to find, but never thought I would. Dr. Leo excels in the traits I value most in a dentist: patience, attention to detail, and outstanding knowledge of the most up-to-date advances in dentistry - in addition to foundational knowledge from experience, of course. Oh and, of equal import, compassion for my terror of anything remotely related to dental issues. Dr. Leo's assistant, Jane, could not be more kind and efficient. Mary, the office manager, is incredibly knowledgeable as well, so kind (must be a prerequisite for the office), and just fun to talk to - even in the midst of a painful dental emergency. Thus, I rely on him to drive me to/from appointments. Sabria suggested one date at 7 am on a Monday. That's my husband's day off & he likes to sleep late since he is elderly & still works fulltime. In that same email, she suggested another on a Th. at 11 am. My husband works Mon-Friday 8 am - 5pm. So can't do Th at 11 am I wrote back 7 am won't work due to husband wanting to sleep late on his days off. He is elderl & Exhausted from having to work. We are low income, surviving on soc security & his low wage job at Walmart. I suggested Any Mon/Tue after 11 & up to 7:00 pm. I also suggested any day of the week after 6:00 pm since husband works 8 am until 5:00 pm; home by 5:30 & eats dinner then; so free by 6:00 pm) Sabrina's curt reply was "Our office cannot meet your demands." Turns out what they said was wrong isn't actually wrong but there's a couple of other things that are wrong that they missed. And all of it can be done by a regular dentist, no specialist needed. I went in for an exam, for an implant and after which, was given a referral to an oral surgeon. I questioned why that they made the initial appointment, a week out and charged for an emergent exam, as well as didn't suggest to go to an oral surgeon. 500.00 for the appointment, that did little for the problem, outside of profiting the dental practice. I have called my insurance carrier to make a formal complaint, also I called Molly Perra at the Colorado Dental Association, and will file a written complaint. I would have written BBB, however Mertz is not a member, understandable so. There should be no excuse for fraudulent, unethical practices, especially when dentistry is a needed service.
