Wanted to try something different, came in here. Menu is pretty easy to figure out, you get to pick your cheese, bread and whether you want the sandwich hot or not as they all come served hot. Ordered the 4" Italian, hubby ordered the 6" Reuben. 6" rueben The white bread is very soft...delicious. The Italian is amazingly great with good flavor. Reuben is the same....fresh bread, great flavor. Definitely recommend- great sub shop.

Super sized Italian. Really too much food for a sane human. LOL. I will go for large the next time. But it was still epic.

I like this place. Local chain but not corporate. Good sandwiches. Steamed sandwiches are awesome. Interesting twist on toasted that I really enjoy. I got super size. I knew when I ordered it that it was probably an over-order ... and I was not wrong. . I should have gone with the large. But it was still awesome. They also give you a pickle spear (so you can feel like you are at a NYC diner) and a hot pepper (so you can pretend you are at papa John's) which are a nice touch. Prices were reasonable too. They also seem to have good ethics - making the world a better place, etc. I am a fan.

CALLING ALL SOGGY SANDWICH LOVERSWay better tasting then any commercial Subway. Great Steamed Subs. Cold on request, 5 Stars.

CALLING ALL SOGGY SANDWICH LOVERS!!!! As a local Knoxvillian, We don't go to Nixon Deli very much. Seams every time the wife is pregnant, yes this visit we are. She wants a soggy sandwich. Which Nixion Deli is the best place to get one. Small Town feel. No big fancy displays or big screens. Way better tasting than any commercial Subway. 5 Stars Great Friendly staff. Serve cold on request. Will become back often. Even after pregnancy. Several sub sizes available not just 12" or 6".

Always a consistently good sandwich at reasonable lunch prices. They offer 4", 6", 8", and 12" sandwiches with chips, cookies, and various other side items. Sandwiches are steamed and yummy!

Should have gone to Subway. Nixon's let me down this time. I appreciate the family operation but seeing so many canned vegetables in bulk doesn't scream freshness and doesn't whet my appetite. Should have gone to Whole Foods and got some cold cuts to make my own sandwich at home. Sandwich was dry. Fell apart. Olives came from a can and tasted just like it. The chocolate pie is a slice of frozen pie ordered in bulk. The smoked potato salad is sour cream based. It was good but I think Archer's preps it better.

Awesome reuben! !! Always love this place

In town for the UT game. Went to Nixon's for a steamed deli, the kind you can only get in Knoxville. Pastrami and Swiss was excellent!

I always order the same thing - turkey and swiss on pumpernickel with mustard and mayo and pickles and peppers on the side.

I have really fond memories of this place from when I was at the University of Tennessee and really, nothing has changed. Same friendly people behind the counter same old school looking menu. And when you walk in still the smell of the steam sandwiches, meat and cheese. My favorite is the roast beef and smoked cheddar on dark with mustard mayonnaise and of course you have to get the pickle and pepper with it. If you want to break with tradition, you get the fries instead of the potato chips but that is up to you. I can't speak to anything else on the menu other than the deli sandwiches in the fries because that is what I order every time I go by. If you've never been to Gus's deli or have never experienced the beauty that is in the deli sandwich I suggest you run not walk to this place especially if you're hungover. This is one of those things that will satisfy you and sit in your stomach for hours so it's a great place to go before a football game or a basketball game and not have to worry about eating the overpriced concessions.

Portions are also HUGE, we stopped in for lunch, I took leftovers and was still not hungry for dinner. Sandwich was good but fries were amazing and well seasoned. I also enjoyed the endless drink options and the Coke Zero from the fountain was SO good (one of the best fountain soda ratios I have ever had)!! Overall this is a good stop for lunch when near campus.

There's a side of beef on those buns, hamburger buns, not mine, at least not until after a few more visits. I ordered the SEC burger. It was full of perfectly grilled onions, an ample amount of bacon, cheddar cheese, and let's not forget the chunk of meat. The saying "the South shall rise again" is befitting, for the SEC surely rose to the occasion. My son-in-law ordered the Double Vol. Vol as in volunteer, but it could have stood for the abbreviation vol, as in VOLUME! Even after cutting his burger in half, he had difficulty arranging which angle to tackle the behemoth. After a couple of attempts, he finally got a handle on the thing and made quick work of it. He mentioned that a snake would have had a hard time getting its mouth around that burger. Even after dislocating its jaw! The boy loved the challenge as much as he loved the burger. Fries galore come with your burger selection. There is plenty enough to bring home in a box with what burger you may have left over. Now, let me discuss the milkshake bar. Sorry, but I can't. I wanted one big time. But my daughter reminded me that we had Buttermilk Sky Pie waiting for us back at the house. It won out this time. But my next visit to S and A's will include a milkshake without doubt. I did see a number of folks enjoying theirs. They all had smiles. There are plenty of tables and a huge TV, so you can bring the neighborhood with you. Don't worry about parking, there's plenty of that too. I bet this place rocks during a big game. True, southern hospitality greets you at the order counter. These folks were happy, polite, and smiling. They stayed that way as they came by to check up on you, making sure that your Sam and Andy's experience is a good one. Did they cater to my every whim? Well, every whim associated with food. I didn't pressure them. After all, it was only my first visit. Quick Tip: They serve Coca-Cola products. I didn't know what to get. My daughter suggested an Arnold Palmer. What the heck is that I asked. Lemonade and ice tea, she said. I opted for the Tiger Woods. Water.....( think about it before you "hazzard" a guess ).
