This is a great Nixon's Deli! I recently came with my family and ordered the Italian, and it hit the spot as always. The food was prepared reasonably quickly (it was busy!) and the staff were helpful throughout. There's a small parking lot outside shared between a few businesses, but I've never really had issues parking there. Staff is always eager to please. Warm sandwiches or cold, always prepared as you like. I don't like sauerkraut.... so no problem, they make my Reuben without it. Want mustard or mayo or whatever your customization is, they will happily do it. This used to be one of my favorite deli's in Knoxville- not so much anymore :( The sandwichs used to be hearty , with high quality meat. The last two times I ordered a reuben , limited meat (lots of kraut to cover meat), and thinly sliced at that. The place is not as clean as in the past and staff seems a bit disinterested in service. Wanted to try something different, came in here. Menu is pretty easy to figure out, you get to pick your cheese, bread and whether you want the sandwich hot or not as they all come served hot. Ordered the 4" Italian, hubby ordered the 6" Reuben. 6" rueben The white bread is very soft...delicious. The Italian is amazingly great with good flavor. Found a lil gem hidden in a strip mall. The place was clean and bright. I ordered the "Italian Sub". I found it to have a decent amount of meat inside. They let you customize your toppings and cheese to your liking. They serve all sandwichs "Steam" heated unless you ask for it cold. The sandwich was good tasting. I got a combo deal in which I chose mustard potato salad. I found it to have a slight sweet flavor that for me was a lil off tasting. Felt that it needed a little more mustard taste. Definetly will return to fill my sub craving. read more

I like this place. Local chain but not corporate. Good sandwiches. Steamed sandwiches are awesome. Interesting twist on toasted that I really enjoy. I got super size. I knew when I ordered it that it was probably an over-order ... and I was not wrong. . I should have gone with the large. But it was still awesome. They also give you a pickle spear (so you can feel like you are at a NYC diner) and a hot pepper (so you can pretend you are at papa John's) which are a nice touch. Prices were reasonable too. Used to be a a great place to get a hot deli sandwic, now not so much. The service was super slow, and the sandwiches over steamed. A slimy mess that was almost impossible to eat. The employees act like they don't want to be there. No wonder there was hardly anyone there on a Saturday at lunch time. I asked for no peppers on the side, but they put my pickle in with peppers in a nasty sandwich baggie, so I couldn't even eat those. Overall the quality of food and service has gone downhill. The manager was extremely distasteful, short tempered, and passive aggressive. The food was dry and wet at the same time, but some how unseasoned. Don't even get me started on the red velvet cake I'd rather call it the Sahara desert cake seemed like it had been sitting out for days and the icing was rock hard. I don't usually write reviews for sandwich places, but I've been going to Nixon's so long that I feel I should make an exception. Steamed sandwiches are a topic of some controversy in my family... I absolutely love them and look for them anywhere i go - but they seem to be concentrated in the Knoxville area for some reason. (I have discovered recently that Firehouse Subs steams their sandwiches, so I can always get my fix there - but it isn't quite the same as a Nixon's steamed sandwich). Unfortunately, most of the family (including my wife) just sees them as soggy and not at all appealing. Oh well - they don't know what they're missing! I always order the same thing - turkey and swiss on pumpernickel with mustard and mayo and pickles and peppers on the side. Steamed, of course! It is just soft, warm, flavorful sandwich heaven! We enjoyed their sandwiches for years. But that all came to close last week when Brandy the manager refused to let us sit in a back table away from the fans as it's always freezing in the 220 Peters Rd location. We are seniors and asked them to turn off a fan over the table in the past. They refused! So apparently they close off the back 3 tables that are away from fans by putting boxes on the table. We saw someone eating at one of those back tables so we moved to warmer area the back table where we saw someone just sitting. Per manager Brandy after 1:00 PM they close off the back 3 tables because they don't want to clean those tables again. Explained we were freezing is why we we're sitting there no where else to sit that was not under their fans and did not want to move. Brandy said told us we will refund your money. Asking us to leave rudest people I ever met. Terrible customer service. We never received our lunch pretty much here your money get out. We will never go back to Nixon's again. read more

Should have gone to Subway. Nixon's let me down this time. I appreciate the family operation but seeing so many canned vegetables in bulk doesn't scream freshness and doesn't whet my appetite. Should have gone to Whole Foods and got some cold cuts to make my own sandwich at home. Sandwich was dry. Fell apart. Olives came from a can and tasted just like it. The chocolate pie is a slice of frozen pie ordered in bulk. The smoked potato salad is sour cream based. It was good but I think Archer's preps it better. read more

I've been here a few times now. It's a great, fast little lunch place the hubby & I meet at sometimes. BLUF: 1. The sandwiches are steamed. At first that sounded gross but its really really good!! 2. i have the same thing every time -- turkey on white w/ provolone, a little mayo, onion & lettuce. It is the exact same every time -- good! It did make it a mess but well worth it. My wife did not hers steamed. It was good also because they get good bread. Prices were reasonable. The sides were ok but they do have bags of chips. Not great. The two employees seemed less than enthused to be there. We stood there for a good five minutes before one of them took our order. The sandwiches were a total mess. I understand that it's a sub, it's going to be a little messy but we actually had to use the plastic forks and knives to eat them. Simple and good. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Became my dad and my favorite stop when We would come to Knoxville especially with Guitar Center and Best Buy right next to it. It is nothing over the top which is what makes it great. It is reliable and flavorful and just good. One of the first places I learned about steaming the sandwiches way before the chains started doing it. I always get the Charbroiled Chicken with the Hot Pepper Cheese and brown mustard. Just simply solid food. There are multiple locations that have thrived which really shows the success of the model. They also sell their peppers in gallon jugs if that says anything.
