I met Dr. Chellsen about 10 years ago when I decided that I wasn't happy with the way I was…read morereacting in my life. I had a substantially different upbringing which most people would consider very unpleasant. Mostly psychological abuse, medical neglect, and isolation. All of that was finally starting to cause me to have major issues coping with everyday life. I was depressed, dissociating, anxious, and I was self-harming. I had been surviving, and I wanted to thrive, so I looked for help. The first thing that caught my attention with Dr. Chellsen is that he believed me. Some of what I lived through seems unbelievable, and, in the past, I was dismissed when I tried to talk through it. Not with Dr. Chellsen. He took me at my word first and then explored my history with me, working with me to ask good, useful, questions and helping me learn new coping and life management skills that fit who I really am. He helped me to integrate the parts of myself that were cordoned off in my mind and I was able to find ways to express myself without harming myself anymore. Because of who I am and what I've been through, I have a different approach to my problems. Dr. Chellsen understood that. He was patient when it was needed, and he called me out on my BS when I needed to be called out. He tailored his responses to be what I needed when I needed it, and his approach was very effective for me. After all the years I have spent in appointments with Dr. Chellsen, I finally feel like I am able to meet my life head on. I am not perfect, or even fully healed, I may never be completely past my demons, but I do know that our work together has changed my outlook on life and it has given me more tools to use when I am faced with life's hardships. The therapy I received was about going back through my life and reframing things that I could reframe, and working through the flashbacks, finding ways to help manage what I felt, putting words to my feelings, and figuring out how to move forward. All in all, I found that working with Dr. Chellsen was one of the best things I have done. It wasn't easy, but I know that I got out of the sessions what I put into them. If you are looking for a psychologist who truly cares about your wellbeing and helping you to get well, I recommend giving Dr. Chellsen a chance. I know I'm glad that I did.

Dr. Chellsen is excellent for depression and self-esteem issues. not particularily intuitive, but…read moreresponds appropriately to what is verbally communicated. Doesn't use many handouts or outside resources. Pretty much a talk it out therapist. Calm and rational, but periodically biased toward men in some instances. Draws assumptions that are periodically not correct and not based on the information conveyed. A terrible choice for help with divorce and children's issues. Overall, a kind and well meaning couselor to help deal with current issues, but not one to teach you skills for avoiding similar issues in the future.
