But everyone was so friendly and the lines went quickly. The office was clean and orderly with nothing but understanding and compassion.

DISGUSTING TREATMENT. Medical negligence, broken equipment, and staff harassing donors…read more I am absolutely sick to my stomach and infuriated by this location. I have been a loyal donor here since December and it was genuinely my favorite thing to do. This week, the sheer technical incompetence, broken equipment, and toxic management turned it into the worst, most humiliating experience of my life. I left this center crying in my car. On Wednesday, an associate named Jimena deferred me over an iron reading. I spent 24 hours correcting my nutrition, only to return on Thursday and get deferred again because an unbalanced, poorly calibrated center scale claimed I magically lost 6 pounds overnight--a total equipment error, proven by the fact that the very next morning I "gained" all 6 pounds back on a different scale when I successfully donated. Manager Marissa handled this with outright hostility, and she explicitly lied to me, stating that I may never be able to come back and donate again--intentionally twisting a temporary equipment issue into a permanent lifetime ban to scare me. She then maliciously weaponized the digital notes system to lock my account on Friday over my footwear (platform shoes) just to force a supervisor review right before my work shift. They forced me to sit waiting in the hallway like a child, only for them to completely clear the flag and sit behind the counter without ever bothering to step out and tell me. I was left stranded waiting until I finally got fed up, approached the counter myself, and asked what was happening, only to be dismissively told they had already resolved it minutes prior without telling me. Once cleared of her petty trap, I successfully donated on Friday with an incredible 46% iron level. Today (Sunday), I came back to finish my second donation, and Jimena screened my iron at an impossible 37%. A 9-point drop in 48 hours is medically impossible. My intuition was 100% right: Jimena directly violated clinical protocol by failing to wipe away the very first drop of blood from the prick, completely diluting my sample with tissue fluid. Looking back, she likely made this exact same training error on Wednesday. When I begged for a retake due to this obvious mistake, a supervisor named Sean coldly refused, dismissed my tears, and lectured me about his staff being "perfectly capable." To make matters worse, multiple employees here have continuously crossed boundaries by repeatedly demanding my Instagram and phone number after I have explicitly told them NO. This center is a complete circus. You have untrained staff violating medical protocols, broken uncalibrated scales, power-tripping managers threatening permanent bans over water weight, and staff actively harassing female donors for social media. Upper corporate management needs to step in immediately and clean house.

Treatment hasn't even started yet, but the care from first phone call to now scheduling surgery has…read morebeen phenomenal! I spoke to a patient navigator (so kind and so helpful) for a second opinion appointment. They did some rescheduling in a timely manner to get every doctor to come in back to back. This was scheduled for 5 hours. It sounds grueling but it was great! They have food available on site; a clean facility and doctors who walk in prepared and who truly care. Incredibly, they threw in two extra compared to a rural cancer center: a speech therapist and a surgeon. The hypopharnyx cancer my dad has is not recommended to have surgery BUT the doctor explained that it's good to meet so she and her team are available if other surgical interventions need to quickly come into play at some point even though the risk is low. That's amazing! The speech therapist was also surprising, once we met with each specialist, it was clear this is a well run, organized and thoughtful center for the best care possible. They asked really good questions, let us ask ours and we never felt rushed. They explain in detail what is to come and it was reassuring that they are specialists rather than generalists in their department. They work with you to support you during side effects, to find housing and transportation, they have a phone number to call for everything you might need. They are clear in communication from everything phone call and have been well mannered with common sense at every interaction. They really have everything you need and partner with the best medical school - university of Washington. Do note, you can end up working with residents so I am anticipating that popping up at some point. I am looking forward to my dad receiving his treatments here and know they are working hard to get everything complete and start up as soon as possible. Thank you Fred Hutch! I will return with an update as treatment gets underway. I hope to stay impressed along this journey.

I had a frustrating experience with the receptionist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Tanya came…read moreacross as very mechanical on the phone, repeatedly asking the same questions even after I had already provided the information. Despite giving my phone number three times, she was unable to enter it correctly, which was concerning. Furthermore, she asked me to register one more time bc she was unable to locate my file due to her own inability to enter the number correctly. The interaction became more difficult when she started arguing instead of helping move the process forward. When I suggested she look up my physician's name, she told me to call back later with spelling of the name which would require me to wait in the queue one more time. She refused assisting me at that point, and was arguing with me so I had to ask her to stop so we could simply complete the registration and not waste more time. I understand that large hospital systems can sometimes struggle with customer service consistency, but this level of inefficiency and lack of professionalism was disappointing. I hope additional training can help improve patient experience moving forward.
