I don't often go to pure burger joints anymore, but this one definitely made me miss my youth! It was a pure deal "burger joint". And since the star of the show is a burger, they did NOT disappoint. I had a classic bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed every last bite of it. In fact, it dork slapped me that I don't go to burger joints enough! If this spot was closer to me, I would definitely return more often. With them I had their fries. They were CLASSIC fries. Very good and perfectly prepared. If it had any downsides it would be that they ration your ketchup portion. With the prices these days I didn't appreciate that. The atmosphere was wide open and clean. Plenty of covered seating outside. And, best - they had plenty of good staff. Always the sign of a great management team. Pro-tip: They have their own parking lot and plenty of street parking around. However, there is a VERY busy intersection right next door which makes is stupendously difficult to leave in some directions. My wife and I were traveling home from Williamsburg and decided to take Route 17 instead of I-95. By the time we reached Saluda, we were getting hungry, so we checked Yelp to see what was nearby. There weren't many options until we got closer to Tappahannock, and that's when we decided on NN Burger. We sat outside on the patio, where they also have a TV. We ordered our drinks, which came in small pitchers -- a different approach, though I imagine it might lead to some waste. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries to share, and when it came out, the server had already cut the burger in half and split the fries between two plates, which was a nice touch. The burger was really good, and the fries were just as good. After finishing, we ordered a chocolate shake, and it was excellent. Overall, NN Burger was a great find along our drive. Interesting place. Was on a road trip from Raleigh to Colonial Beach and passed thru Tappahannock for a late lunch. Very few customers on a Monday at 2:30. Was seated quickly and drink order taken. Was a little surprised when Ashley brought our water and sweet tea to us and was served in a bar pitcher with straws. I'm thinking I guess this eliminates the need to refill a drink but what a beast to pick up to drink. Not cool in my book, and the tea cost $4.50 + 12% tax + tip which made it almost a $6 drink! Should have ordered a beer at that cost. So Ashley came back and took our order of Grilled Fish Sandwich with chips and my Jamin' Bacon Bleu Burger with chips. The order came out in good time with good size protein portions on both sandwiches. My wife did not think her fish sandwich was flavorful, did not taste any tarter sauce and fish had no fishy flavor. My burger was flavorful as well with the house chips being very crispy. I guess Ashley was too busy to come by and check on us as she did not ask us how everything was. If you're passing through the area and you have a few extra bucks in your pocket, definitely try NN Burger. I'm through here pretty often, but it is pricey. That cuts down on the number of times I can afford to eat here. Generally, the burgers are pretty good, but they used to ask you how you wanted them done. They haven't asked me the last two times I was there so my burger was a little overcooked (I like mine with a little bit of pink in the middle, that is, medium). The fries or twisters as they call them are pretty yummy, especially if you get the truffle oil and some of the special toppings . Not a bad place to take someone for their birthday or a special occasion. Indoor and outdoor seating is pretty cool with the reclaimed wooden boat planks as tables. They were out of several items which we didn't learn until after ordering. We didn't learn that one of the items was out of stock until we were served. Large space and tables are not very crowded. Freshly prepared burgers. My group had a simple cheese burger which was good. A bacon cheeseburger which was also good. I had a French onion plant based burger and I'd say that it was barely cooked. The French onions were cold and the cheese wasn't melted onto the burger at all. 2/3 isn't bad. The crisp potatoes were more thick cut potato chips. Dark and well done. Ok. Not the best burger that any of us have had in Virginia like their claim however the service was great. There's a. The first disappointment came when we learned that they had discontinued the craft sodas that we all liked. The next disappointment was that they offered table service which was rather slow compared to last year when we ordered at the counter and picked up our food. New owners ruined it. Me and my family have been coming to NN burger for years, like since 2015. When we came back eariler this year, the table service was terrible. Picking up your order from the counter was perfect, it was quick and the food was fresh. The table-side service they do now is a huge problem. Our food took forever to get to us, and it was cold and soggy. A minor problem that I wanted to point out is what they did to the fries. The famous twister fries are now two separate things, "twisters" and "chips". The only difference is that the "chips" are shorter; the difference is also not specified on the menu. It used to be that you ordered fries, plain and simple, and you would get a mountain of them. Now it's a confusing process to get them and what you end up with is a measly handful of cold and soggy fries. The live music is still great, but everything else just took away the uniqueness and excitement of this place. This place used to be the best burger place ever, very genuine and a local favorite. Now it is just a cheap tourist trap. Will not be coming again. TLDR; the table-side service takes forever and ruins the quality of the food, the menu adjustments are confusing and vague, and the new portion sizes are way smaller. read more

It was not the best I ever tasted. Definitely better than any fast food burger. The rum runner was ok but did not taste authentic. They had Agave Vanilla Cream Soda, Black Cherry with Tarragon Cream Soda, and Pineapple Cream Soda. I enjoyed all three of the cream soda flavors. The bottomless fountain drinks are pricey. I had a taste of the lobster roll that someone else in my party order. It was excellent and full of lobster meat. They have an upcharge for extra meat. You really don't need to get extra meat because the roll is already overflowing with lobster meat. There are plenty of tables inside and outside. They are pooch friendly and have bowls for water and dog food. In a corner they have a spot for live music. They also have a photo ring. All the ingredients for a good tourist trap. I should have known from the "south of the border" style advertising that we were in fact not going to get the "best burger in virginia". The food was not bad just to be clear, but it was far from fantastic. Our burgers were not dry but they just did not have a ton of flavor. They were not well seasoned at all. We got 2 standard cheeseburgers with bacon and one kids cheeseburger. We also got their "crispers". The burgers were good but did not have a lot of flavor. The crispers were enjoyable but they are also pretty basic, just home made style potato chips and the price is a bit excessive. We also got 2 sodas and a water for the kid and I thought that for the price the drink cups were also a bit small. Our total cost was $65 for 2 cheeseburgers with bacon, a kids burger, 2 crispers orders and 2 sodas. The environment is loud and a bit hectic when busy. Our first burgers came out wrong which was inconvenient but they fixed it right away and the cooks at the counter were polite and courteous. Sadly the manager sat at a table in a corner with a name badge on that just said "manager" for the duration of our visit. Once we left the counter none of the staff moving through the restaurant attempted to engage with us in any way. Long story short the burger is edible and not a bad burger. It is far from the best burger in VA and at the price this place is a miss for me. I wouldn't stop again and we drive through here a few times a year. We have been stopping at NN Burger on our way home from OBX for many years and always looked forward to ending our vacation here. Not any more!!! Apparently they are leaning into their live music which was offensively and dangerously loud. Literally had to scream at our waiter to give our order. Conversation at the table was impossible. When we asked if the music could be turned down we were told "No". The waiter was apologetic and said he found it difficult himself but there was nothing he could do. She read it back to us so we know she heard it. Her sandwich came out before the rest of us and it was wrong. My friend said politely said to the young girl that brought it that it was made wrong. They took the sandwich with an eye roll and then our food came out. My burger and fries were amazing. The food was very good. However we were done eating before my friend eventually said to take it off the check and left. They brought the sandwich out 5 min later. I paid for it as it was made. We asked for a box 3x before my other friend got up and asked at the bar. Again met with an attitude like asking 3 x for a box isn't patient enough. We already settled our checks. As we were leaving they are all just standing there looking at us. So my review is the food is amazing. Get it to go - because the service is nothing to brag about. Maybe the waitress had a bad night but apparently her bad mood rubbed off on her coworkers. Don't be salty having to remake a sandwich that you messed up relaying the order to the cook. Or maybe the cook messed up, either way my friend didn't do anything to deserve the attitude when she just asked for the sandwich to be made to her order. Maybe I just don't appreciate lobster, but $34 for a roll and chips just didn't feel great after it all. Chips were crisp but i'd steer from the truffle parm signature flavor, coming from someone who always chooses truffle-flavored dishes. Chips were unevenly seasoned; i'd prefer fries if i was to go back. Nice place, quick service. Decor feels homey and inviting. Must be a local favorite. I travel all over looking for great burgers and have been to NN before. I ride about 50 miles to Tappahannock just for NN. The last time I was there it wasn't the best experience but I figured it was not the norm so I wanted to try them again. I know they are a little pricey but there are no prices on the menu. I order the basic burger, chips and a drink and it was $27. I decide to not order the $7 chips. The drink was $3.50. Select "no tip" when you pay because there is no service to tip for. You wait in line to order then pick up your food when ready. It seems like it's easily $10 more than my last visit for the same thing. Yes, I understand inflation and all that but I wasn't expecting it to be that much. A family of 4 could easily spend $100. It didn't seem that busy. No line to order there were empty seats. There were 7 people behind the counter a couple of people in the lobby cleaning tables. After about 20-25 minutes I decided to get a refund on the burger. The hostess was courteous with the refund and I ended up getting a couple of $1 hotdogs from Sheetz. I don't know what happened with this place but I won't be coming back. Sad too because great burger joints are hard to find. I'll be surprised if NN is open for business in a few years. read more
