5 stars for Kenny -1 star for how disorganized it can get when it comes to appointments But I want everyone to find this place and take their lessons with Kenny so gotta give it a 5 star review. 10 years ago I signed up for 5 lessons at a different location and was too chicken to take my road test. 10 years later I found out about this place through a friend and I'm so glad I did. I signed up for 10 lessons and 2 road test attempts. Those 10 lessons are technically 5 lessons since each lesson is 45min and they condense 2 lessons together each time you make an appointment, so you get 1 1/2 hours each time you meet up with your instructor. Initially I had a different instructor and I didn't like him so I read the reviews and asked for my next 4 lessons to be with Kenny. Kenny will critique you for everything he asks you to do, but in the nicest way possible because on the road test they'll deduct those points. I was super nervous during my road test but Kenny arrived early on the day of so I can warm up a bit on his personal time because he wants to calm my nerves and make sure I pass. Whatever I needed help with, he guided me through it. He may seem too strict but he has good intentions and never says it in a harsh manner. If anyone ever ask me for recommendations I can not rave enough about Kenny. Get him. You will not regret it. I passed on my first attempt with a little bit of luck and a lot of preparation and help from Kenny. read more

I'm so glad to have Andrew as my driving instructor! I didn't know how to drive and needed someone to teach me good driving habits for life, not just to pass the road test. I researched a lot and went for trial lessons with different instructors from different schools before choosing Andrew. He was the best and easily stood out from the rest. He's a seasoned instructor who understood why I was doing things the way I was, almost like he could read my mind. He's good at noticing when I do something that could become a bad habit and he corrects it right away. I just took my test today and passed on my first try, without fail! After searching and having no luck with other schools' pricing or teachers in Queens, I stumbled across NO.1 Driving School on Yelp and decided to give them a try. The 10-lesson package is SUPER affordable, and you get 2 sessions at a time. 5 total 1 hour and a half minute lessons made learning feel gradual, and I 1000% recommend my instructor: Jerry. He's funny, chill, and a great teacher that knows just what to tell you to improve without breathing down your back. I've never touched a car in my life before coming here, and Jerry made me feel like I've been driving for much longer. Be sure to call ahead of time to schedule your first appointment, as the instructors - especially Jerry - get booked up very fast, especially over the summer. Another thing to note, I'm not Chinese or Chinese-speaking, and had absolutely no trouble. Jerry is English and Chinese-fluent, as is the scheduler. A no-nonsense place, having great lessons with a great instructor is a once in a lifetime investment you won't regret here. So regardless of what you're doing, if you need driving lessons - call this place up and ask for Jerry. I can't believe it, but I can finally drive! I suffer from extreme anxiety disorder and it took me 11 yrs to get over my first failed road test. I did my research and decided to go with Kenny. Kenny is trilingual (speaks fluent English/Mandarin/Cantonese) and he is very patient with his students. He made me feel very comfortable behind the wheel and identified immediately what my biggest issue was, my confidence. He managed to perfect my turns, and made me confident on driving with other cars on the roads. He makes you feel like he's your friend but dont be too comfortable, because he is not afraid to lecture you if you dont listen to his words of advice to you. I was a nervous wreck before my exam and he told me straight up, this is it and I have a strong feeling you will pass so just act like you're driving with me, like it was any other lesson. If you are going to take lessons here ask for the Instructor Jason!! I had absolutely zero experience in driving before coming to this school. And I had no car at home to practice so I was incredibly nervous. The first instructor I got, Jerry, was incredibly unprofessional and condescending, but I asked for a change after two lessons and Joyce (the scheduling person who's really great and efficient) was able to easily change my instructor to Jason. Jason was really kind and patient. It was literally the opposite of my first instructor. And in one day turned me into a better driver (not exaggerating) and he gave me confidence in driving. He explained everything clearly and if I had any questions he answered them thoroughly. And then on the road test I ended up only getting 10 points! Just a month ago I had no idea how to even fix my chair but now I could actually drive! I was gonna take a star off because of how bad the first instructor was but Jason helped me immensely by turning me from a complete novice to a competent driver. This driving school helped me understand the requirements to pass the driving test. From the start when I just started planning out my schedule, they were always open as to when their schedule would match mine. After meeting Instructor Jerry, I was always eager to practice driving. My first lesson was the scariest, but Jerry was patient and always listening to my questions. He was always prepared to hit the break when things start going astray. There were times when I got into a predicament and he would allow me solve the problem, since he knows some things aren't meant to be learned through repetition. Sometimes my schedule would change and Jerry was always open to shift my schedule to another time or day. Each lesson was only 1.5hours long and always at a spot where gives a developed understanding of driving. Passing the driving test on the first try was all because of Jerry'a teaching. He waited with us for 2hours before our driving test and gave us hints before the big test. Everything paid off and was because of this driving school. read more

I signed up for around seven sessions and was able to pass my road test by the time it came around on my first attempt, thanks to Jerry. I am, by no means, fluent in Mandarin so I was relieved to hear that the school provides instructors who, like Jerry, are very comfortable and thorough in explaining driving concepts and directions in English. Jerry was extremely patient with me and was knowledgeable in what to expect/not expect on the test. It was clear that he is very experienced as he provided helpful critiques and instructions that helped me to ultimately pass. Jerry informs you on what you should be doing and sees through to it that you are doing it correctly. He's also an easygoing individual so you won't feel any pressure or nervousness as you drive with him. I do recommend to sign up earlier in order to schedule your lessons to accommodate with your own free time. Both my mom and I took lessons at No. 1 Driving School with Kenny and passed our road tests. Kenny was a great instructor who took the time to recognize our weak spots and work on them. He was very clear about all of the rules. Kenny strategically went over each rule that we had to follow and even taught us new things which we initially did not know we were supposed to do. Both my mom and I came in with a lot of driving experience but wanted to make sure that we could get enough practice to be completely confident during the driving lessons, so we bought the 20 lesson package. Because Kenny methodically outlined everything, we knew exactly what we had to do after just 4 lessons (2 days) with him. The rest of the lessons were used to practice. The overall experience was very satisfying and it is evident Kenny cares about his students and truly wants them to pass. I would not say there was anything lacking in our driving lesson experiences and recommend Kenny to anyone looking for a good teacher. read more

I passed my road test on the first try. I highly recommend instructor Jerry. He was a great instructor. I started my driving lessons two weeks ago, and I never drove before. On my first class, I was his last student for the day, but he was surprisingly patient to me. He explained everything that I needed to know on my first day. His voice was so calm and gentle. I was very nervous before I started my first driving lesson. However, when I was on the road with him, my nervousness was gone because of his good attitude. I was very surprised, because I am a kinda person who gets nervous easily. Being a instructor, having a good attitude is very important, because it will make your student feel more confident and comfortable. I was super comfortable with Jerry and my driving skill was getting better and better after each class. I've never done any sort of driving before I came to this driving school, but I've had my learner's permit for a while and decided it was time to take the road test. What I needed and wanted most was an english speaking instructor since my chinese is sub par and I got that in a very good teacher; Instructor Jerry. I took a 5,10 lesson plan where I met with him for 1hr 30mins for 5 specialized lessons on 5 seperate days. The lessons are intuitive and Jerry made sure to correct my mistakes and any bad habits that would be troublesome in the future. He was very thorough in his explanations and was very easy to talk to. The school booked the road test for me and I just had to take it on the assigned date. I was driven there during the day by Jerry and he even took time out of his day to give me refresher lesson on the day of. I passed the road test on my first try because of this school and instructor and I highly recommend it! read more

On my second try of exam, I pushed heavily to get Kenny as my instructor, and boy was I glad I did. There were some bad driving habits that I picked up along the way of learning how to drive and he was able to fix and correct about 80% of it by my second class, given that I only took 2 classes before my second try of the driving test. He will drill you over and over again on the mistakes that you made during your driving practice but remember he is not sitting there to Kill your confidence but to build it to a newer height so you can be a better driver not only for the exam but after, for on the road as well. Kenny is not only a excellent instructor but makes a good therapist too. Go for look for Kenny if you ever need to learn how to drive safely on the road. If I had to retake my driving test again, I will definitely go back for Kenny. He speaks mandarin, Cantonese and English as well. read more

In my experience if you are looking for a school that's reliable in both teaching and pricing I truly recommend here at NO.1 Driving School in Flushing Queens. I had the opportunity to learn from Mr. Castillo who is remarkable in what he teaches via driving and a very nice and respectable guy who truly loves to help novice learners like myself. I was able to get my drivers license thanks to him for being very patient and a great communicator with great tips and skills while on the road. If you need someone for Spanish speaking Mr. Castillo can speak both Spanish/English. Aswell as the front office Joyce very nice woman and on to the point to help book for any class dates AND road test dates with flexibility, very much recommended this school if you seriously want your drivers license as soon as possible and have the time to commitment to do it. 5/5 read more

I took my driving sessions at No.1 Driving School with Kenny as my instructor and I passed on a first attempt. Kenny managed to help me with everything I needed to learn from the day one, starting with all those small details. I bet not many instructors do that in general. Also, he was immensely patient, cheerful, positive, and very understanding the whole time. Kenny is awesome, If you come here make sure to pick him, even if he's booked I promise you wait for him it will be worth it. I passed my road test today with the help of Instructor Ka on the first try. He is very patient and will resolve your issues on the spot (alert you when your car is too close to other cars on the street, pull your wheel when you're losing focus, never yell or blame you for making the same beginner mistakes in each class). I had 6-8 classes with him and each class, the improvement was evident in my driving. I became a more confident driver and took control of the car on the road. Focus on the road, follow his instructions and pointers during every driving class and you will pass the road test. Instructor Jerry is very patient with new drivers and thanks to his help I was able to pass the test in one go after taking 10 lessons from him. He told me exactly what I needed to do in order to pass and was very helpful whenever I made mistakes. He never raised his voice and was very kind, which helped me learn very quickly and efficiently. He also always showed up right on time and never let the lesson go shorter them it was planned. Not only this but the customer service is very good. The people working in the office are very good. They also made sure that I got lessons on the days that I asked for and always answered the phone if we had any questions. Even if we called after hours. At first I wasn't sure about enrolling in this driving school, but after a few lessons with Kenny my driving instructor it was a great decision in my opinion. Kenny is patience and provides many tips regarding the components of the road tests. He is friendly to talk to and is really encouraging when you do something correct. For instance turning, parking, and 3 point turns. Furthermore, Kenny will point out every mistake you make during your lesson and warms up prior to your road test. He also speaks multiple languages and is clearly flute in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Also going to the office is better than communicating by phone. I passed my road test after 4 lessons with Kenny (and some practice on my own as well). Kenny is an excellent instructor who will break down each driving maneuver into specific steps so there's no confusion about what you should be doing. I would highly recommend taking lessons with him if you can. I'm giving a 4-star rating instead of 5 because of the management of the school itself. For one of my classes, I showed up at the designated time only to find out that my class had been canceled. I would have appreciated a heads up about my class being canceled to save me the trip to Flushing. Scheduling can also be a hassle since it's all done via text messages/calls, and sometimes you'll need to schedule classes a few weeks out. read more

I appreciate the time and effort that was put into this learning experience. I took around 10 lessons with him and I passed the road test in Fresh Meadows. Kenny is a patient and informative instructor. He tries to understand you to figure out what needs correction in your driving. This guy will lecture you to make sure you fully understand. He uses a white board with a marker for you to visualize things more. Kenny speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese which is a plus. I advise students to choose Kenny as your driving instructor.
