Back for another round of deliciousness at the historic Lamy building in Sedalia, MO. Started off with the Baked Meatballs with melted provolone and fresh baked crostini. Yummy way to start our meal... Salads for both of us. I had the Summer Salad: mixed greens, radishes, green onion, goat cheese crumbles, walnuts with a raspberry vinaigrette. Sunshine stuck "the best salad I've ever had", the House Salad: spring mix, Parmesan, roasted tomatoes, red onion, pepperoncini, breadcrumbs, with bleu cheese dressing and crumbles. Not lo-cal, but savory and worth it! Entrees were equally good and filling. Sunshine had the No. 5 Burger: 1/2 lb. Beef patty with provolone, bacon onion jam, red onion, tomato, lettuce and garlic aioli with sweet potato fries. I chose the Chicken Scarpariello: braised chicken breast, with Italian sausage, onions, peppers, sautéed cherry tomatoes and peppadew remesco, paired with Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc. And a side of Brussel sprouts...'cause they are delicious! We skipped dessert this time Said it before...if you find yourself in the middle of Missouri, make the trip to No. 5 Bistro & Bar [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was great and the ambiance is a warehouse vibe. It was a former manufacturing location for Levi's 501 Jean![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My 0.02¢

    Bistro #5, gorgeous old building

I was blown away by the food and dining experience at Bistro Number 5. The building is an old Levi jeans factory, the number 5 factory, since 1893 as I recall. The building has been wonderfully restored and houses several businesses in addition to the bistro. We had some great beer, appetizer with goat cheese and pepadew peppers, and sandwiches. The sandwiches are build your own with choice of grilled chicken, fried chicken, buffalo chicken, hamburger, or vegetarian. The toppings include the traditional plus some fancy stuff like bacon jam, pimento cheese, and smoked apple butter. I got a hamburger with swiss cheese, garlic aioli, bacon jam, and fried onions. Every bite was amazing. I just kept thinking, "this is so good!"

    Tiny beef tenderloin medallions. $39!

I came to No.5 yesterday for my birthday dinner with 5 girls. And unfortunately it's probably going to be my last time. I made a reservation the day prior so I figured it would be no issues with service. When we arrive our server asks us what we'd like for an appetizer; we let her know we need a few minutes. No problem there. Eventually, we put in our app order and it took probably 20+ minutes for the app to come. Appetizers are supposed to be quick and fast especially for what we ordered. If they were short staffed they should've warned me and said service would take a little longer. So once we got the apps we ordered the dinner since we thought that would take long too. Once we finished our apps the server never cleared our table. So when the dinner came we had a bunch of plates on the table. The server was clearly new and didn't have the slightest clue of what to do. When I got my dinner (the beef tenderloin medallions with mashed potatoes and broccoli) I received two tiny pieces that were burnt on the bottom (clearly the chef was trying to hide that). I asked for medium and got well done. I took a bite and didn't like it because it tasted charred. So I asked for a new plate that's cooked medium. They eventually got me the food and it was medium rare this time. I ate it but had to add a lot of salt since it lacked flavor. It supposedly had a honey bourbon glaze on it but I didn't taste that at all. Oh and btw the server never apologized for the mess up and never offered me a complimentary dessert for my bday... Also, she was mostly standing where the cook was preparing the food. A new policy the restaurant has is with parties of 6 and more they charge 18% gratuity with the check. I honestly don't think that's fair because our server really didn't deserve most of that tip... In conclusion, don't order anything fancy here or you'll be disappointed. I can cook a better piece of meat at home than this place.. and my dish cost $39 for two measly pieces of meat. Freakin rip off!

Would give it 6/5 stars if that was an option. In my opinion is only "nice" place to eat in Sedalia that actually has good food.

The lacquered soup bowl and spoon are par for the course but the cast iron teapot and teacup give that authentic quality. So the miso soup is not as salty as I am accustomed to, but I believe that is a me thing, not a quality issue. The composition of seaweed and tofu is good. The salad has a ginger dressing which I appreciate, but my daughter didn't. Again, it's a her issue. The salad components were fresh. The sushi flavors were pretty good. So the fish is not as fresh as it would be in a coastal state or on an island. Hey man, this is the midwest! That being said, this is NOT grocery store sushi though, it is much better and much tastier than that. The flavors of the sauces are mild to allow the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through, something that many places err in. Typical rolls have such overpowering sauces that the actual ingredients are unidentifiable. This place does not make that mistake. The spicy tuna roll is probably the best tasting spicy tuna roll that I have had in a very long time. Most places use sriracha as the main pepper ingredient, despite it not being of Japan origins. This spicy tuna roll has more of a togarashii based pepper base. As a result it has more of an authentic Japanese flavor. Yum! The staff are very nice, greeting you with a smile. They even ask if you would like a plate cleared away before taking the dish away...my husband has had instances where he wasn't quite done and the servers whisked the dish away neglecting to ask. They checked on us frequently as well. I also am pleasantly surprised that their last call for dine in is 15 minutes before they close. My daughter wasn't available to go out for dinner until 8:45 pm. This is 20 minutes away, so it was still open when we arrived and we didn't feel rushed to place our order.

We regret not staying in to eat, the restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance is classy and inviting. The staff were so kind and attentive. Now, the food! We ordered the 911 and Hummer roll (spice level 5), we are spicy folk. We also ordered the veggie yakisoba. All unbelievably great! Sushi rolls were big and beautiful, fresh and fulfilling. The yakisoba was full of a delectable menagerie of veggies and the sauce, which tastes like garlic butter, did not need a single thing. Completely nailed the food and experience all the way around. Saved to our "Winners" list. Would drive cross country just to eat there again.
