I ordered the Fiesta Fajitas and was very happy with the ratio of protein to onions, tomatoes and peppers. In addition, they topped it with 4 good sized shrimp. The guacamole that it was served with, was also very good. Hubby ordered the Cochinita Pibil and thought it was very good. The food was good and they have a large menu of items to choose from. We were on a road trip and called our order in to pick up at the drive through window. We appreciated it being ready when they said it would be ready. They handed us a (tightly knotted) plastic sack and we pulled through so the people behind us wouldn't have to wait. Once back on the hwy I finally got the sack open (I had to rip it, as their knot was NOT being undone) and unpacked our food. Only to find there were NO UTENSILS OR NAPKINS. That is inexcusable. No matter how good the kitchen staff is at preparing the food, or how good the recipes are, it is all undone by this lack of consideration for customers. They need to put processes in place to ensure this doesn't happen. And stop with the super tight, double knotted sacks. Bottom line- Even if it means making the other customers wait, carefully check your 'to go' orders to ensure they have accurately and completely filled your order. read more

SHARP METAL IN FOOD. PLEASE BE CAREFUL EATING HERE. My husband and I went to el tapatio for lunch and when I took a bite of the rice, a sharp piece of metal shot into my cheek and chipped my tooth. I told my waiter there was metal in my rice and he went and got the manager. The manager then took the metal, agreed that it was metal, and apologized and walked away like it was no big deal. My server also acted like it was no big deal even when we told him we didn't want the food and were leaving. My husband and I did not eat any more of the food and had barely eaten any of it before eating metal, but they still had us pay for the entire meal and drinks that we didn't eat or drink BECAUSE THERE WAS METAL THAT WAS IN MY FOOD . Thank god I didn't swallow it but it chipped my tooth and I had to go get that fixed. You'd think the least they could do after serving me a sharp piece of metal that caused injury would be for us to not have to pay for the meal that we didn't eat because my mouth was bleeding from the metal. Passing through town, so this review is based on only one visit, with four entrees ordered. There were three other tables being served, yet the wait for menus was long, and the wait for chips even longer. Then the wait for food was long, and the wait for the check was longer. After the food had been served, we were not visited again by our male server, so that the chip basket ran dry-- not a tragedy since the chips were not worth the calories. Thankfully, the water glasses are large, so no one ran out of water. The salsa is served in a small carafe--and much more than what we needed, so that's generous. My tablemate told me that what I had been expecting was pico de gallo, and that salsa is supposed to be thin. Two of us ordered combo plates, and neither of enjoyed them: the taco shells were stale, the fillings skimpy and bland, the refried beans without much flavor. I am a hearty eater, and will eat most anything that isn't rotting, and I was hungry for lunch, and yet it was better for me to leave half my food on the plate than eat it...my meal was that disappointing. The one person at our table who ordered a roasted pork entree, that came with guacamole, ordered the right dish-- although the shredded pork was a little dry, it had very good flavor, and the guacamole was chunky. Pleasant decor, but watch out in the bathroom: the doors to the stalls are made with wood slats, that have gaps of about 1/4"--making it pretty easy to see what the person in the stall is doing. read more

I should've reviewed El Tapatio when we stopped through last summer, but we remembered it being pretty good. We decided to stop in again today, and oh man, it was worth it!! When you walk in, it's pretty typical decor in what you would expect to see in a Mexican restaurant. It's clean though, and the staff is super friendly. My wife got the street tacos with chorizo and chicken, and I got Molcajete. A molcajete is actually a type of bowl, similar to a mortar and pestle. The food itself is served in it, and this particular Molcajete dish had shrimp, chicken, flank steak, chorizo, prickly pear and green onions. Freaking. Amazing. Packed full of flavor, and served with 3 of their home made flour tortillas. One of our favorite things about this place, is the fact they have a patio, and they let us bring our little dog onto it while we eat!! Definitely recommend read more

I was advised this is not the best mexican place in town but as you know each individual has their own taste. Well long story short, its not the best. I ordered the beef chimichanga and it came with red sauce which I got on the side and beans mixed in the meat. I have never seen red sauce on chimichanga and enjoy it better with cheese sauce. I also have never had beans in chimichanga either. I think I prefer not after this experience. The sides were just rice and more beans. The hibiscus marg was watery and not tasty. Two stars because I enjoyed their flan as it was moist and well done, not spongy. Also enjoyed the chips and salsa. The chips are lightly baked with right salt consistency, not to much, not to little and the salsa was a bit runny and not so spicy. Thats how I like it. I did not get a photo but hopefully this paints a picture. Service does need some work. I asked the waitress twice for more salsa and up to now have no received it and it was not very busy. read more

The kitchen must have put all their effort in the tacos, the dinner was average at best, served on salvaged school cafeteria dishes. We Ordered "skinny margaritas," (lime juice, agave, tequila... simple recipe). Their Skinny was filled with simple syrup and a shot of bar well tequila served in a1970's beer schooner. Homemade tortillas, homemade desserts, all of it. Fantastic. Service is also important, they went out of their way to please. Environment? Being from Texas I really didn't know how the Mexican food would be here, but it was great! The servers are professional, efficient and friendly. The food is fresh, and delicious; it is nice to have some special dishes not offered at other places. If you ask for the spicy salsa and add a little to the table salsa It's perky :-). On August 15, 2020, my husband and I were excited to visit this restaurant again while in Sedalia to walk along the Katy Trail. We had visited in May, so we were foolishly hoping for a second wonderful dining experience. Sadly, that did not happen. We had the same waiter, but he seemed too occupied like they were short on wait staff. When we were seated by the hostess, I couldn't help but notice that she wore Nike fitness leggings instead of black dress pants like the rest of the staff, such as the lady that delivered the chips and salsa as soon as we were seated. My husband and I ordered small margaritas, which came in these adorable ceramic goblets decorated with the theme of the restaurant and its name. My husband requested the spicy salsa that he enjoyed on our first visit, and we shared a small Queso Blanco. When our entrées came, I requested a soft drink and then after the waiter left, I unrolled my silverware from the white paper napkin and discovered that I had the extreme luck of receiving a filthy fork. Very noticeable with melted cheese still on it, so I was immediately upset. Waiter was nowhere to be found. After waiting several minutes, I excused myself to the ladies room. The ladies bathroom only has two stalls, so I waited in the hallway. Too many people waiting and no social distancing. When I finally returned to join my husband, I had received a clean fork, but of course my food was cold. My fault, of course, for being away so long. So I dug into my meal anyway. After eating only half of the beans, half of the rice, and three-fourths of one enchilada, I stopped. My stomach got queasy and I was livid that the waiter had yet to return with my soft drink and food was so cold it was like it had been in the refrigerator. Not wanting to get sick, I stopped eating. Waiter delivered the check. No questions as to how the meal was or anything, just "no rush" to pay the bill. My half-eaten entree should have been a sign something was wrong. He didn't seem to notice. At this point, I was pissed. Of course it took hardly any time to notice my credit card at the end of the table after leaving the bill! Yes, I still left a good tip, because I understand that he was probably having an off day, and I work in the food industry as well. Not everything was his fault. I'm sure he's not the only one that rolls the silverware, for example. I just wish we had a better overall experience. Pretty sad for a Saturday afternoon visit after the lunch rush. No sign of any management to share my concerns with. Hope it's better next time! read more

Every time I go home to small town Missouri I have to have a few meals at this great Mexican restaurant. The food is Always exceptional, the staff is Always very attentive and very polite, and the atmosphere is well... campy, somewhat tacky, but very mexican, check out the carved and painted chairs.... I love a good margarita and after living in New Orleans for 11 years I had my share of Really Good Margaritas. I have to say El Tapatio's has margarita's equal to the best I have had in New Orleans... and that says a lot. I've lived in DC now for 6 months and have yet to find a good margarita.
