I recommend going at dinner (after 3) for more options, but the lunch menu offered all of my "favorite" things off the dinner menu so still good regardless. Our servers were friendly and helpful and they recommended a sample meat platter to start off our Japanese BBQ AYCE. We came during happy hour for 20% off dinner pricing. The food was amazing and the service was great. The meat was fresh. The deep fried menu was good. We ordered takoyaki, dumplings, and spring rolls. They were light and crispy. The creme brulee and mango sago was good. Fountain beverage with refills available. Complimentary parking is available directly behind the restaurant, adjacent to the hotel parking. You'll need to get a paper parking pass from the restaurant to place on your car dash. We had a good time. Highly recommend this place! read more

We arrived for a midweek lunch and we were seated immediately. Although it's an all-you-care-to-eat format, there are some important considerations. Firstly, at lunch the time limit is one hour; at dinner the time limit is 90 minutes. Mid-week lunch it's $37.95; at dinner midweek this becomes $44.95. Weekend dinners are $54.95, and the menu for dinner is much more extensive. We were told it's possible to order a dinner menu at lunchtime for the upcharge. (The dinner menu has things like marinated lamb, and sake-marinated clams.). The one hour limit begins to feel oppressive; the opposite of hospitality while having a celebration lunch. Who knows if the limit is enforced? The restaurant is decorated with lithographs of cats and rabbits in samurai costumes. It's bright and clean and well air-conditioned. We really enjoyed the side dishes to the meal: The kimchi was well-balanced, the seaweed salad crisp, and the Hokkaido potato salad was creamy, and full of peas. Great experience overall. The Prime Angus was the highlight for me -- really high quality beef and absolutely worth ordering. Kevin was also great and made the experience even better with friendly, attentive service. Another underrated plus: the fountain pop is refillable, which adds pretty solid value. Only thing to know beforehand is parking is not free. You'll either need street parking or one of the nearby paid public lots, but most of them are only about a 2 minute walk away so it's not too bad. read more

Was looking for dinner in the Clifton Hill area and we saw the high reviews for a Japanese bbq spot near our hotel, so we had to give Niku a try! We walked in around 7pm and were put on a waitlist. We were told it might be an hour wait so we explored the area till we got a call from the hostess to let us know our table was ready (only ended up being a 20 minute wait). From the menu, we got a variety of beef and seafood. These tasted high quality! Also tried the bibimbap which we found was just average. The service was very attentive throughout. Unfortunately for dessert there were no Melona bars left, we had ice cream instead. I would say this bbq spot is comparable to Gyubee in GTA with better service in my opinion. First time ever trying Japanese AYCE BBQ and holy moly this did NOT disappoint! Our server was Jorge and he was absolutely phenomenal, highly recommend! He knew exactly what we needed and was not holding back -- we started with what we were used to -- beef brisket and short rib, but after noticing what we left behind (some fatty parts), he recommended the boneless marinated short rib and prime angus, then we went onto the lamb, which was good, but very meaty so make sure you cook it all the way through. If there was any downside, it was the fact that we had to cook the stuff ourselves. Being from Jersey, I'm used to everything being done for me, so that was a bit of a bummer (lol). Afterwards we were on the fence about dessert, and Jorge was not taking no for an answer! He brought us everything on the menu! It was the best decision he made. All small portions, which we were very much okay with and my husband ended up ordering another portion of the cheesecake because it was so good. My favorite was the little campfire setup with a piece of banana, strawberry, and marshmallow with a side of melted chocolate. So cute and very innovative! Went here for dinner during our free period for a Niagara Falls tour from downtown Toronto. We had 3.5 hours to kill after a city cruise to the falls. I didn't want to eat fast food or at a chain that had bad reviews. So I found this place with great reviews and was not disappointed! It's a 15-20 minute walk from the view of the falls, but it's worth it and will help you work up an appetite. I believe dinner AYCE price on a Monday-Thursday is $50pp. Not cheap, but just order things that are more expensive like meat. Don't get distracted by the sides. ;) First I want to say that we are visiting from SF. And the service at this spot tonight was the best of our trip so far! And this is the 4th night of our visit so we've been to a few spots. We were greeted right away by the nicest guy. And then our server was super sweet too! A woman also helped us a few times and was giving tables tips on what to order. She even told us we should try the garlic butter sauce with our shrimp, and she was right! So good to dip it in the sauce after it was cooked. We had prime short rib, marinated short rib, prime angus, brisket, pork belly, marinated lamb, kalbi strip, and shrimp for the meats. Sides of lettuce for wrapping, one bowl of rice, kimchi, asparagus, and sauce combo of ssamjang and garlic. Their house made soy sauce was delicious, along with their seasoning. Everything was tasty but my least favorite meats were the marinated short rib, prime angus, and marinated lamb. The marinated short rib just didn't compare to the prime short rib. The prime angus was just ok, nothing that special. And the marinated lamb was tasty but so fatty. I would order the other meats and sides again though. Almost forgot we also had the sake steamed clams (yum) and then finished the meal with chocolate fondue for dessert. Came with strawberry, banana, and a marshmallow. SO simple but so tasty!! AYCE with a good selection and food arrives quickly upon ordering. This review is primarily for service, which was top notch! Our main server Kevin was full of energy and very charming. I wanted to like this place as our server was so friendly and nice but the meat quality was just very subpar, especially for the price. We started out with a beef platter per our server's recommendation so we could try all the meats. Sadly only the brisket and prime boneless short rib was good. And when we ordered more, the prime boneless short rib in later rounds had a line of inedible gristle through it. The other meats were tough and dry. For $50+ tax and tip, it simply wasn't worth the price for sadly lower quality meat. Maybe for $35 Canadian for dinner it would've been more on par with the quality of meat, but $50 was not worth it. I know Niagara Falls is a tourist trap but you can find better food for the price elsewhere. It was nice they had real pineapple (not canned) and dessert. I liked the crème brûlée too. Our server really did provide excellent service so I really wanted to like it more, but if it wasn't for him, it would likely be more like a 2 star experience. We came her with 3 tweens and they loved it . We thought is was very good too. Some things to know : 1. It's one price for all you can eat. Not cheap but a good value especially if you are a big eater. We aren't the biggest eaters so may not return for this reason but it was super fun to do once 2. Kids 4-9 eat for less money - they get access to everything adults can order but at a cheaper price as presumably they won't eat as much . 3. The menu is pretty big. They will try to get you to fill up on filler foods like " crispy chicken", spring rolls , deep fired dumplings, sweet potato fries etc. but don't fall for it - save room for the good stuff. The best item was the beef brisket. We also liked the shrimp and squid.and salmon. Lamb was decent too. Wasn't a fan of the pork . Ask for the spicy bean sprout paste ( yum!) . Ask for lettuce to make wraps to make it a semi healthy meal. Try something new cause why not ? 4. Besides from the soup, apps and sides, you cook all your own food on a little grill in the center of the table. Our kids ( a few ages 9 and one 11 ) were the perfect age to cook their own food enthusiastically while still waiting patiently for the recommended cooking times ( i wouldn't bring a kid under maybe the age of 6-7 there for this reason) The service was kind and exceptionally friendly. Some of our food didn't arrive but the situation was promptly corrected. Overall, this was a very good meal and perfect for our crew. If you have tweens/ teens who are semi adventurous eaters it's a no brainer. Even adults should enjoy it . After a long day of touring it was a great meal to end our day in Niagara. Came here on a Sunday night with a party of 5 people. We came from Buffalo after hearing good things about this place from friends however there was an event going on in Niagara Falls causing a bunch of traffic getting into Canada. We got to the restaurant around 9:45pm and were told that we had until 10:30pm to order since the kitchen closed at 11pm. We agreed to have everything ordered by then and they sat us down. Immediately when we were sat down, we felt really rushed by our waiter who told us that their kitchen closes soon so that order he is going to take from us is probably going to be the only order we can put in. After he left, another waitress came to us and we confirmed if we had until 10:30pm to put in orders and she said yes. The waitress then took our order and the food came out pretty fast and it was around 10:20pm when they came over asking if we would like anything else as the kitchen is closing soon and we have 10minutes to order. We gave them our second order and food came out as ordered except certain items were missing. We realized later those items never came but it was fine since it was getting close to the closing time. As paying customers, of course we wanted to be mindful and finish our food as fast as we can by the time they close but we only get one grill for 5 people so it will take a while to cook the meats. Around 10:45pm, the waiter came to us with the bill apologizing that they are closing soon at 11pm and asked us to pay first. We were okay with that so we paid the bill (15% gratuity was automatically added due to our large party of 5). With that said, since gratuity is already included in the bill, the workers don't have to work towards a tip which makes sense in their lacking service that I will explain below. As customers who have been to multiple AYCE restaurants before, we want to finish as much food as we have so we don't waste the food. From the time we paid our bill till closing time, we were still grilling meats. We understand that the restaurant closes at 11pm, however since we have cooked meats, we wanted to finish eating what was on our plates, cause why not?! The waiters then came every couple min to take one plate away at a time WHILE we were eating. For instance, we had a plate of clams that was done cooking and one of my friends picked up one clam from the plate when the waiter proceeds to take the ENTIRE plate away right after with the rest of the food still on the plate. I went to use the washroom before leaving and my friends said that while I was in the washroom they took my full plate of food away too. Mind you that they took all these plates away without saying a SINGLE word. It almost felt like the staff were being passive aggressive trying to kick us out quietly. I've worked in the food industry before and have eaten at multiple restaurants and it is very normal for customers to stay for TEN minutes after closing to wrap up whether it is finishing food or packing up leftovers. Even if the staff needed to leave or close up, they could have kindly communicated to us that we need to leave at 11pm on the dot. Either way if they needed us to leave, they should have told us instead of taking our dishes away one by one without a word. The staff are clearly not trained professionally and need more customer service skills. They should not take customers after a certain time if they are not expecting to provide them quality service after a certain time. It seems like the staff was already in a hurry to leave when we got there at 9:45pm. read more
