This place gets mixed reviews, but I honestly had a great experience, so I thought I would share it. I wanted a puppy to train as a service dog. I figured a puppy would be easier to train with fewer bad habits. We went in right when they opened: I've had shelter experience from a young age, and I knew it wouldn't be busy if we went right after opening on a weekday. We were the first/only people there. I asked to see the puppies and the clerk pointed to my left so I grabbed my guy and marched left. I rounded a corner and there were two tiny puppies, which was fortuitous. My only criteria were a female puppy of a small breed. I briefly looked at the male but he was much too energetic and clearly the dominant pup, while the female was less hyper and more submissive of the two. Plus she has a gorgeous brindle coat. I wasn't completely sure what breed I was looking at, but I believe that there were numbers on the glass for each cage. There were no papers on the window to tell me anything about them so I practically ran back out to ask to see the puppy; the brindle female. I think I told them the cage number and that there were no papers and the clerks knew who I meant. The employee behind the counter said "go get Magic for a visit" and off went a young clerk to go get her. I whispered her name to my boyfriend excitedly. The clerk apologized for the lack of paperwork, she told me she was literally printing it at that moment, that Magic had just been put on the adoption floor 15 minutes before we walked in. So back we went to the room where you meet your new best friend and in came Magic. She was shy and kind of looked at me like she was nervous; she didn't want to come straight to me. The young clerk helping us grabbed her up and plopped her in my lap. At first, Magic leaned away from me, but I whispered to her some random baby talk and she relaxed and she nuzzled me. I looked to my boyfriend and asked him what he thought and he said "don't look at me; it's your dog. What do YOU think?" I looked down at this sweet, little thing and I said, "I think I found my dog." Things happened pretty quickly after that and the adoption was smooth. I decided to keep the name Magic, I thought it suited her and it certainly suited the way she had come into my life. It was just a random day that I had simply awoke with the feeling "today is the day; I'm going to get my dog today," after talking about it for 3-6 months. Fast forward 5 years: Magic is a certified service animal who has been just so easy to train! Not "emotional support animal" or "therapy dog," no: she's a "service dog;" just to be clear. She's intelligent and healthy and she's been by my side for almost five years. She's been there to save me through some tough times. I even got her a little doggy car seat to protect her in the car. You attach their harness to a clip from the back of the seat and that way they don't go flying if you have to brake suddenly, or worse. Buying a service animal is an insane expense, but you've always got the right to train your own. In that way, her adoption costs were an entirely nominal expense. Oh my God! I nearly forgot: all of her commands are in Spanish. She learned everything in English but I realized she couldn't always tell I was speaking to her in public, so about a year into training I switched all her commands to Spanish so she'd realize I was talking to her without having to raise my voice. If that isn't a smart animal, what is? The Humane Society was clean; the employees were helpful and friendly; the dog I adopted was (and still is) healthy! This was an amazing experience for me that resulted in me finding my best friend in the form of a perfect, 6lbs, deer-headed Chihuahua with a lovely brindle coat! I love her so much and she is so attached to me: I call it the "invisible leash." I got her vaccinations at the Humane Society before I moved away, and they were reasonably priced. If i could give this place 0 stars i would. the staff here is 100% incompetent. i sat in the waiting area for over 20 minutes before being helped and it wasnt even help. she took my frist name and made me wait another 15 minutes. i got taken to 1/4 rooms and told my cat wasnt in the building. i finally got a different staff member to show me the rest of the rooms and she wouldnt even let me see if one of the cats had 3 legs (which my cat does). I drove 45 minutes back home and had a feeling it was my cat. i called back and spoke to a wonderful employee names gaberial. he was so helpful and went to check for he. unfortunately he wasnt my cat but it was nice to have some sort of closure. I would like to mention the tiny crates the cats are kept in and the unclean demolished cells the dogs are kept in. Then while waiting i was petting a cat that was in the lobby in a small cage and a dispicable old lady rudely yelled at me and my friend to not touch the cats. this place is terrible and should lose their license. they should rename it the unhumane society!!! read more

A little bit of a backstory: I was on my way to work one morning (June 30th) when I see a dog running around in the middle of the street. After 30 minutes of trying to help this dog, I am eventually able to sit with the dog and wait for animal control to come and save this dog. I was told that I would be given updates about this dog. When I got off work, I had received no updates, so I decide to call this shelter. When I am on the phone I give a detailed description on the dog and the lady I was talking to told me that I would be able to come in and visit with the dog. After telling her the story, of me being the only person the dog would come too, she told me this. A few minutes later, I show up to the shelter excited to see the dog I rescued earlier that morning. I inform the lady at the front desk of the conversation, and I told her that the lady I talked to over the phone told me I could see the dog. This lady was very rude and unprofessional and told me flat out that I was a liar. I had explained to her that I formed a connection with the dog and that I was told I would be able to see him. She gave me a ton of attitude and told me that whoever I talked to told me inaccurate information. Fine, so I told her that she needs to make sure that everyone on the staff knows the same rules so that people like me don't get their hopes up to see a dog. Me being an animal lover, just wanted to see the dog I had saved from being hit by a car, and instead I get hateful, unprofessionalism, and attitude. this place literally does not help you to adopt the dog you want. my family has been trying to adopt from here for 3 weeks a special dog that we loved and they would t give us any info about him except check the website to see when he is available. so we're constantly checking website to find out today when I go in to talk to someone about him AGAIN that they adopted him out already. they wouldn't take our info to be on a waitlist ever. it's so frustrating! we found the dog our family wanted and now everyone is upset because we can't have him. read more

I adopted 2 senior dogs and while the staff helping me visit them and do a meet n greet with my dog were helpful and kind, the front desk workers were grumpy and rude. I don't care how busy it was, it is easier to smile and apologize for the wait (that's what I have to do in my job) than to treat visitors like crap because you're understaffed. Some training in customer service for your front desk staff would be a good idea and would probably bring in more donations. read more

The people who work at this location are all incredibly rude and seem to be completely incompetent. I came to help a friend find a lost pet they claimed they had. It took them 15 minutes to even have someone come talk to us when there we're only 3 other people there. We told them the cat had only 3 legs which didn't help them come to any conclusions even though you'd think that would be something they would have written in the cats descriptions or visible in the pictures. When my friend back to look at the lost cats they only took her to 1 out of the 4 rooms of lost cats and came to the conclusion that they didn't have him. The cat they thought might be hers was put in a small crate they called a feral crate and told her if it was hers they didn't know what the next steps would even be. My friend had to ask another worker there if they had any more cats in order to go back and see the other rooms. While my friend was back in the rooms I was trying to play with some of the younger cats who looked sad in their small cages and a rude older woman working there told me aggressively to take my hands away from the cages and to leave the cats alone. I have honestly never been so annoyed with a shelter. The organization and customer service was absurd. They would be better off hiring people who are competent and capable than animal obsessed control freaks. read more

Back Story: My cat had gotten out, was picked up from this shelter obviously sick, she had blood work done at Four Seasons animal hospital and turns out she needed a blood transfusion, in the end she passed away. It broke my heart. So 2 months later after I had somewhat gotten over Kitkat's passing I walk in to this shelter and ask about visiting a cat or two to see their temperament, intending to adopt one. One of the ladies who works there see's me, recognizes me as Kitkat's owner and asks in a sharp way "Where's Kitkat??" I tell her she passed away. She goes "You didn't bring her to a vet?!?!?!?!?" I explain that I did and had blood work done to see the issue, and that a few days later she passed away. She says "Hold on I'll be back". This woman comes back and has the audacity to tell me: "Sorry, we don't feel comfortable giving you another cat based on how Kitkat was when we got her." I loved that cat to death and never did anything wrong to her. She got out and several days later shows up and this place sick as can be and won't eat and can barely stand, WHEN SHE LEFT MY PLACE SHE WAS FINEEE!!!!! So basically because my cat got sick and passed away they think I'm some sort of piece of shit animal abuser. I am absolutely disgusted with that woman and I hope she reads this and feels horrible. read more

On April 1st we went in to view their dogs. We chose a horrible day to do so as it was swamped with low cost vaccinations. Our current dog and the one we brought home wound up sick. Our new dog we got to bring home 4 days after we adopted him because he got neutered before we brought him home, but he wound up with an infection even with 100% following instructions, AND he was seriously under the weight we were told he was at. now for the good! because the entire experience with the dog and staff was wonderful outside of how busy it was. their facility was super clean, their staff was very knowledgeable while talking to us about the dog we were interested in. we did a mandatory meet and greet with our current dog BEFORE we were allowed to adopt. And the gentleman who helped us was even very good in explaining some of the behaviors our boy was exhibiting. Even with him being fairly new at the humane society, the gentleman who helped us knew the dogs personality and tid bits that he had learned just by working with the dog. We are very pleased with our new dog and he fits in splendidly with the family!! read more

I think the Evan's Humane Society should change there return policies. I have a disability and on a fixed income. My husband and I lost our dog from cancer. He lived to be 13yrs. The house was too empty so we decided to adopted. We bought our new dog home to find out that she was sick. She had diarrhea, vomiting, and a cough!! I had to return her and when I ask for my money back they told me no refunds. I even talk to a manger thinking she would do the right thing but no. By the looks on their reviews I'm not the only one they have done this to. They are sealing money from the people by selling sick animal's and keeping the adoption money and that's not right!!! read more

My cat needed spayed. They answered all of my questions, checked on her, got the shot records from the my vet and all in all, treated me very professionally. I am a big fan of proactive humane societies. In rural Colorado, people with too many animals have the brutality to just dump them out the field and leave them to fend for themselves. These guys work hard to find all unwanted animals a home. And Liz, especially, should be promoted to manager someday. She knows a lot of stuff. read more

I signed up as a volunteer, and all my contact with staff was kind and friendly. I wanted to foster, and received every consideration of my age, weight, & abilities to pair me with a suitable foster dog. Today, the shelter was busy with every sort of need, and the staff were patient as I picked up a well assessed dog to foster. Please consider donating to this well deserved cause. Please neuter your pets! There are so many good pups and cats without buying one! As I write this, the lovely big boy I picked up after 6 weeks in shelter is napping on the rug next to me! I adopted Angel from here in 2012 and my partner wanted to adopt a small breed of dog and we came out with a poodle of 2+ years on paper. It was a pleasant ordeal to us . We rented so we needed the ok to adopt a small dog . We had a 24 hour hold on her and that still let us see her on the weekend. But when we found out that we could get her on the following Monday we got to pick her up . I have her now for 5 years old for sure . Now her name is TinkerBell . He has a mind of her own but I always say we girls got to stick together. Now she's my triple G ( gorgeous , good , girl ) all in that order . read more

I took four kittens in that i found under my porch. The clerk who helped us was rude as hell and acted like everyone was an inconvenience. She eas calling everything stupid and treated us as if the kittens were ours we wanted to just leave behind. Everyone else was wonderful. These kittens deserve a chance and i hope they dont kill them because they werent worth her time. They were struggling until i washed them, cleaned the mud out of their mouths, and fed them what milk i had. Im not equipped to care for them or i would have. About nine years back, we got our two beautiful kitties; a brother and sister (which we later named Milo and Molly) from this place. I can't remember the behavior of staff, it was a while ago and I was just a little girl at the time. I do remember however the condition of the cats when we got them. The staff never said that there was anything wrong with the cats when we chose to adopt them, however when we brought them home they started acting very strange, like they were sick. After a trip to the vet, we learned that Milo and Molly both had ringworm, and Milo had a bad cold. This was only two days after we had gotten them, so it was obvious that it was something they had gotten from the shelter, or at least was left untreated by the shelter. We let it go, treated our kitties, and we didn't go back to that shelter until this evening. A week ago, Milo managed to get out of our house, and we've been looking for him everywhere since. After a lot of checking around our neighborhood and nearby shelters, we came back to Weld County Humane Society to see if he had come in as a stray. The moment we got there, the staff were very impolite and unprofessional. Their general attitude towards us was as if we were inconveniencing them. We asked to see the strays, and after filling out a whole sheet of information (that I personally deem unnecessary, but I don't know much about how to operate a shelter), they said that they had to find someone to 'escort us' to where the stray cats were kept (another thing that irked me, but again, don't know much about shelter rules). Might I mention that they told us that if we found our cat, we wouldn't be able to take him home that night because it was an hour to closing time, which is honestly ridiculous, because they already had our information on the sheet that we filled out. We waited a full ten to eleven minutes, while the three ladies sat right in front of us on their phones or counting money (something that could have been set aside maybe?). A young woman came to assist us, and told us that only ONE of us could go back to look. When asked why, she replied with "That's the rule. It just is what it is". The disrespectful attitude and the lack of empathy created a very unprofessional atmosphere for an Animal shelter. My mother chose to go, and after a few minutes she came back, no kitty. The staff ignored us entirely after that, when we chose to leave. The moment my mother stepped outside she burst into tears over the attitude of the woman who had taken her back. This woman was supposedly standing against the wall, looking very bothered by the situation. Albeit, it was a bit of an overreaction on my mom's part, but losing Milo has really hit her hard, and the attitude of the staff at that shelter did not help. In my personal opinion, the actions of the people at this shelter was horribly unprofessional. No, their job isn't to make us feel better, but that gives no excuse for the rude, and overall bothered attitude of everyone we talked to at that shelter. I am only posting this in the hopes that those people get at least a firm warning. I don't want them fired necessarily, unless that's their attitudes on a good day. read more

I can not say enough good about this Humane Society. I adopted a wonderful dog here, I have had two other dogs neutered here, and I have my dogs vaccinated here. The staff has always been helpful, efficient, and kind. Today I had to euthanize a well loved pet. This was a very sad day, but the staff here was so compassionate and thoughtful. We had a HORRIBLE experience. At first we thought it was a clerical error, but now we think the place is just trying to avoid a lawsuit. We adopted a 1 year old husky stated as making "a great addition to any family" online. Called and asked about her, was told she was returned for destruction due to being left alone for a long period of time. Being that Huskies can be prone to that behavior and we had previous experience with huskies, we put her on hold and went later to visit with her. We had been looking for a husky for some time and they seem to move quickly! When we arrived, we had to wait quite some time as they were super busy. We checked out the kennels while we waited, but didn't see the dog we were interested in. We were told that she was in a separate area because she was on hold and we couldn't see that area. The lady who showed her to us when it was our turn didn't say anything about her, but brought up the return issue, which I thought was nice of her to disclose even though I had heard about it earlier from someone else. We adopted her and we were so excited to bring her home. Once we brought her home she had issues with our 8 year old. She would go out of her way to lunge at him and nipped him, as well. This was when he wasn't even playing with her, but was doing his own thing. We called and were transferred to the behavior specialist. She notified me that this dog (Lyanna) was NOT supposed to be adopted out to households with children under 10. She said it should have been on her kennel card, but I let her know there wasn't one as she was in the "hold room" and not a kennel. She also said the person who showed us her should have notified us and she did not. We let her know we'd be bringing her back as we can't wait for 2 years for the family to interact with their pet. She mentioned that since it had only been over a weekend that all of this had happened, that she would see about reversing the charges. My husband showed up to 'return' her and was met with hostility and accusations. He was told that he could pick out another dog, but no refund. When he asked to speak with the behavior specialist, he was told she was 'out to lunch'. The staff then proceeded to call him a liar and insist that they had told him about the no kids under 10. NO PARENT WOULD PUT THEIR KID IN THAT KIND OF DANGER! We were NOT told, they were NOT honest, this place deserves to be monitored for GROSS NEGLIGENCE and it would also help if their staff would communicate with each other. I care a whole lot less about the money than the fact that this dog is again listed as available with the same "a great addition to any family" bio. She is a sweet dog if you're over 5 foot tall and that should be on her paperwork, her kennel, and a required signature/initial spot on the agreement so no one is depending on a negligent employee to relay information they may forget. Regardless, this does not excuse a dishonest staff. read more

I got the most beautiful, sweet calico kitty from Weld County Humane Society. After looking all over the Boulder & Denver area shelters, I couldn't find one I thought my shy older cat would adjust to. I needed a younger cat that was playful but not aggressive. The staff was nice enough at Weld HS to point me to a room where the kittens were still not spayed or neutered, but would be soon. That's where I found "Sassy" & It was love at first sight! Even though it's an hour from my Boulder county home, it was worth having to come back in 2 days to pick her up (after spay). I felt like an expert at that point on animal shelters, since I had visited so many. Weld Co HS seemed understaffed by mostly very young workers. I think that's why this Shelter gets lower scores than some others. When I asked about it, I was told that Weld HS does not share in funds donated to Boulder County and is underfunded. The one thing that people DO donate are really wonderful animals! The young people working there are just busy keeping all the animals happy and clean. The building is older and frankly the whole facility doesn't come close to Boulder's. Understaffed or not, all of the animals looked healthy, fed, cuddled and happy! It's both good, and bad, that they had such a selection for me to choose from. Sassy & I hope other people looking for their furry soulmate will consider Weld Co Humane Society. It's worth the drive! read more

I can't say enough great things about this shelter, the staff, and volunteers! When we are ready to add to our family again, I will definitely go back to this shelter! Everyone there was so helpful and kind; they really love all the animals and want what is best for them. We found a dog there this weekend that is absolutely perfect for us; when picking out our new pup, the staff was patient, informative, and just absolutely wonderful! Keep in mind, the staff often sees the awful sides of people-- from all the unwanted animals that are brought in as strays, owner surrenders (I know sometimes it's necessary), and all the wounded/terribly abused animals that come through their doors. I can't even look at all the poor animals without being brought to tears and being so disappointed in people. They have a tough job and do it with compassion and care! To me, their main concern/focus are the animals and their welfare, so please keep in mind that it can't always be easy to be a ray of sunshine when you see so much pain and sadness. But back on a happy note.... please visit this shelter and please adopt!! read more

My rating is not based on my preferences, but on comparison with comparable humane societies. First realize that the Human Society of the United States is more of an animal rights organization than an animal welfare organization. The HSUS clams to "reduce suffering and to create meaningful social change for animals by advocating for sensible public policies, investigating cruelty and working to enforce existing laws, educating the public about animal issues, joining with corporations on behalf of animal-friendly policies, and conducting hands-on programs that make ours a more humane world." I don't know whether animals really need "social change." Nor am I aware of specific activities of the HSUS in regards to cruelty. Most of what I've seen from them falls under the category of education or re-education, and lobbying. Local "human societies" such as the Human Society of Weld County, are independent agencies. They are under no obligation to support the HSUS or to follow any suggestions or policies promoted by the HSUS. For that and other reasons, I wish that local animal welfare organizations would find some original names that doesn't include the misleading term "human society" in them. Something like "Weld County Animal Rescue and Placement". Unlike the HSUS, local "human societies" actively seek personally to prevent cruelty and to provide health and housing services (or release into the wilds) to animals, everything from bats and rats and snakes, to horses, wolves, and skunks. Local "human societies" traditionally provide opportunities for the cats, dogs, gerbils, and certain other animals they house, if unclaimed, moderately healthy, and not vicious, to be adopted as pets. By contrast the HSUS seems to be at heart an anti-pet organization, one of whose goals is to eliminate pet ownership altogether, and hamper if not eliminate pork production and more.. Their money management has also been brought into question, as only a small portion of what is donated to them actually makes it to charitable activities. Most is used for various kinds of lobbying and fund-raising. The Weld County Human Society seems to use their funds directly for directly handling and caring for animals in various ways in the shelter itself, plus naturally salaries for the employees. Like all such shelters, WCHS simply cannot keep the animal cages as clean as your dining room. So don't complain about the smell. The staff knows. The staff cleans. And as soon as they clean, Fido and Chiffon pee on the floor again, Rex vomits, and Billy licks his window slimy. WCHS accepts volunteer help. I suggest "walking a mile or two in their shoes" - volunteer for a couple of weeks - before you think you've got the whole thing figured out, before you start telling them what they're doing wrong and how to do it better. You may have great suggestions. They will be better received, and will be more practical, if you become personally more familiar with routines, regulations, limitations, and obligations that the WCHS are required to work under. Given all that, the WCHS staff is doing as well as other staff I have seen at other "humane societies" and much better than a few of the less savory "agencies" that substitute in some small or sad places, for proper animal welfare organizations. The staff has always been ready to help us, within the limits of their authority and ability. I recognize that they must use euphemisms at time, and not give details about some procedures. That is pretty common among "human societies," and will not change until the public changes by becoming more educated about animal population problems, and animal behavior problems that it currently doesn't want to know about. read more

they did a horrible job at looking for my dog I went in twice ! but they said "we don't have that dog" like they literally took 5 minutes to look and its a big facility I would've liked better service because my dog was deceased and marked as a jack Russell terrier and I wish I could do more to bring my baby back but I cant but I don't recommend this place at all the employees have ugly attitudes and just hope nobody has to ever go through what I did read more

The people who helped us were rude and they were very short with us. They also do not put any info about the dogs personalities on their website, they don't specify really anything about them other than the most basic information. They also refuse to put whether or not the dog(s) has a pending adoption or a hold placed on them. In all, I will definitely never be giving them my business again. read more

This is going to be a long rant, but an important one for potential adopters. I adopted / bought a kitten on December 5th,within just a couple of days I noticed that she had diarrhea that wasn't going away. They told me that was normal because of the different foods that they give them there, whatever is donated to them. By December 15th I noticed the diarrhea was not going away and she was starting to lose weight even though she was eating. I had my vet come out and she did a fecal exam and she had giardia. She gave me panacure, after two vet visits and two rounds of medicine she was still having very bad diarrhea and losing weight. On January 1st I ended up having to take her to another vet as an emergency visit and they deemed her as " unthrifty" because of her poor condition. She had gone from 2.54 lb to 1.7 lb. They put her on three different meds for giardia, coccidia, and a probiotic because she was so skinny even though she was eating. Now, a few days later she has a completely distended stomach and you can feel every rib bone and every spine bone. When my vet was looking at the records from the humane society she pointed out that, in there many pages of notes, it stated this kitten had a history of diarrhea. No one pointed that out to me at the humane society and, considering they give you pages and pages of notes, that would have been almost impossible for me to see in all the paperwork. I called the humane society because I felt like it was their responsibility to help get her treated since this obviously was an ongoing problem that they failed to tell me about, I was told it was not their problem and that if I wanted to surrender her back to them I could do that but I would not be able to re-adopt her when she was healthy again. So I'm going back to the vet this afternoon to see why she has a distended stomach and I've now spent hundreds of dollars on this kitten, that we now love, and I've only had her for 4 weeks. They also are very rude at the front counter. read more

We have adopted from this shelter several times in the past few years. Yesterday we adopted Buddy and Snowball (changed to Cotton as we already have a Snowy). The young gal that was assigned to help us by bringing us the cats we were interested in was so sweet! She was very helpful and when we chose Snowball she mentioned he had a good friend there also... She agreed to let us see the two together and that sealed the deal! They are fitting in and enjoying their new home I find this shelter clean and fairly organized. I did give 4 stars because it took over an hour to complete the paperwork. About 3 minutes of it included me and the rest was the quiet gal on the computer while we stood there. If it is set up in a way that it truly takes that long , there should be some changes made. We are business owners and my husband ran late for a meeting. One more thing. There seems to be confusion on policies. While we were there waiting to complete the transaction there were 3 different situations that were mishandled then they had to figure out how to fix. The most heartbreaking was a young woman who came in sobbing, she had to surrender her dog and pay to have her euthanized. She had an appointment. After she left , there was talk about having to call her back to take the dog home for a 10 day quarantine! I hope they decided to handle it differently. The poor girl had suffered enough. I will always return here to adopt our next family members! Also we will continue to donate. The animals are clean , happy and well cared for. Good job!! read more

Just recently visited to get a new cat for the family while the building was very clean the staff was rude and knew nothing about the animals and where little help we ended up loving one of the cats that they had in the MAIN room and she was matted and her fur was covered in knots read more

I am writing this review to let the people of weld county and the Greeley area know what is going on. People who have services done and are willing to pay for them are being charged for services that are not necessary. I took two cats to get neutered and was told lots of different things by different people. Different times for pick up , three different prices, and they would not give me my cats until I paid the bill, even after I paid in full Jake would not let me have my cats. I expressed how un happy I was and all I got from there supervisor (Jake) was harassment. I video taped the whole situation and am filing charges. They are doing services on people animals with out the whole story. I told them I didn't want certain services and they did them any way and said you signed the waver. I was forced to sign for services even if I didn't want them because I was trying to do the right thing by neutering my cats. Please People read the waver, and take your animals else where. Don't donate don't help, they are crooks and miss using there grants. As a pet owner you still have the right to say what is done to your animal. They said its for the animals best health they lie, I took mine to get shots at a tractor supply event and the vet look at them and said they were in grate health and there teeth were fine, but the vet at the humane society removed 6 teeth when there was nothing wrong with them, baby teeth fall out on there own. So that's not in the best interest of the animal!!! They introduced bacteria into my cats mouth. Never , Never take your animal there. The staff were awful. Read all the reviews from other people, they are true. They need to be investigated. read more

We adopted an older dog. Was told he needed one more vaccination and we could come back for that, as well as a check up since he had just come off of antibiotics. We were informed about a medical condition that they said "was taken care of" through surgery. Most of his teeth needed to be extracted. We took him home satisfied that they took the time to care for the little guy. Well that was NOT the case. Upon taking him back for the last vaccination and check up we were told that they would not look at him. She kept telling us "I don't know who told you that, but I am not looking at your dog". The vaccinations are supposed to be part of the adoption fee, that we paid in full prior to taking him home. Being good and loving pet owners we took our new family member to our local vet who informed us that he still had remaining rotten and infected teeth and had a double ear infection. She was horrified that the Humane Society did not complete their task of removing all his teeth while they had him sedated (He only has four left.) or take care of the ear infection whatsoever. Our little dog may not even live very long due to the infections. To make a long story short. It is NOT about caring for the animals. They do NOT take care of them. Just feeding them is not caring for them. They do NOT care to whom or where they go once they leave the facility. If they did, they wouldn't be so rude and hateful to animal loving people who go there to find a new family member to love. BTW, after talking to friends about this, they too informed me that they have adopted from the WCHS and their pets have died within weeks of being adopted with no sympathy or thought of a refund from the WCHS. read more

What a horrible place. Went to look at dogs found one was told it was 150.00 and that was fine . Put her on hold for 20.00 so I could go get the things she would need. Went back the next day to get her and was asked if I wanted the heart worm test done so I said yes that was 25.00 again no problem then was told no one was there able to give the test. That's fine but was charged for the test anyway and when I questioned it the price of the dog went up to 175.00 that I never paid for the test. Not to mention that the money you give to hold the dog does not apply to the adoption fee so they just keep that money. The staff is so rude. I will NEVER go back to that awful place again. read more

Went in here and asked to see any puppies they had. They told me they had 2 so I went to go look. We saw one we really liked so we asked to see him. Their response? He was on "choice hold." Somebody paid 25 dollars to put the dog on hold. However, if those people don't show up, then the dog doesn't even get adopted and the shelter only makes 25 dollars. How does it make sense that people who are ready to PURCHASE the dog and give it a home are banned from doing so just because somebody put down 25 dollars to "hold" it. Furthermore, the dog shouldn't even be out if it is on "hold." To make our experience worse, the people who worked there were rude and not willing to do their job. If you are serious about adopting a dog, don't even waste your time here. You will only be pissed off and disappointed by the end of your visit. read more

Horrible! We were told two different stories as to why Spice, the 3 month old kitten we were adopting, had a red in her eye (this precious little kitten picked us). We took her to the vet and he gave us a powder to mix with water as he believed she had a virus. After having her only 5 weeks we had to take her to emergency as she was suddenly unable to stand, etc. She had FIP which went viral in her brain. She was curled in a ball quivering and unable to move in my arms when she was euthanized. I informed the shelter that she had FIP (we actually met another couple that adopted a kitten from same shelter around the same time we did and they had exactly the same experience!!), the woman said she would let the staff know all the kittens that were in the same room may be ill--she then offered me the option to pick another cat within 6 months at no charge! Considering the lack of care they had that we loved this little Spice and how devastated we were, but they actually thought offering us another "free" sick kitty would do the trick. read more

We were going to adopt puppy that was being treated for parvo, but will not now. They said she was fine now and she would never get it again. She was very thin. I looked up parvo on the internet and discovered that there is no cure for parvo and the dog would need a special diet and something to boost her immune system. She should not be around other dogs for two months. I can't believe that they weren't going to tell us how ill the dog really was, and let her be adopted to someone with another dog in just a short time. Parvo is a HORRIBLE disease. It's to bad she hadn't been vaccinated by her owner. MY heart goes out to this puppy. read more

Very rude to me, also when I was there many dogs had kennell cough. I was there another time, dogs had kennell cough. Many dogs with nothing to lay on, and empty water bowls both times. The floors are cement. read more
