Went for a beer and some apps on a chilly winter day. We had an IPA and a white beer called Fly Girl/ both made in house! Served perfectly chilled. Their menu shows alcohol content and their notes. Appetizers only before 5pm, which is what we had. We had the chili appetizer and the French onion soup, and potato wedges with in-house mayo. Chili app was served more on the solid side and served with nacho chips and fixins. Think not of traditional chili soups, but rather chips and dip! French onion soup was rich in flavor, topped with crusted bread and cheese. Our potato wedges were broiled and their mayo was good. Service was friendly and efficient and fast. This place was recommended for a good burger by the hotel I am staying at. They have a great beer selection as they are a craft brewery. I suspect most of the reviews are based off the beer list and not the food. Let me say service is impeccable and our waiter was amazing. I ordered the cider which was amazing and not sweet but tart. My son ordered the burger and I had the chicken roll for lunch. Both items came with a salad that was delicious. The burger and chicken roll fell short. My son's burger was dry and not flavorful and I could've made myself a much tastier chicken salad at home..... the four stars is definitely for the service and beer. We discovered their beer after seeing them at the supermarket. My bf loves the fact that all of their can labels are cats. We were pleased to find that their brewery was close to our hotel. They are open quite late, until 2am. My bf ordered a flight . He enjoyed most of it and even decided to get a 4-pack to go. Great... now we have to check in our luggage. I resisted ordering food, because we already ate and I was quite full. But we ended up ordering the confit duck hearts to go for a snack. They were tasty. We came back again the next day, as we had some time to kill. He tried some more beer and I also had a cider. As for food, we had the reverse sear pork tenderloin that came with roasted vegetables and a salad. The pork was tender and the dish was filling. If you're a beer fan, then this is the place for you. Having arrived by train and having checked in at the nearby Best Western, four of us wandered about looking for a place for dinner for our first night in Quebec City. We couldn't have been happier to have found Noctem. They cleared off a table for us, and we proceeded to have a charming time. Drinks were all good with very affordable prices for them. Went here right after checking into my hotel. Great local brewery. Very knowledgeable bartender that recommended a great 6 beer flight. Let him choose between 3 dishes and he combined two into a great lunch. The Noctem Burger with upgraded fries to poutine. If you like a hazy ipa this is the spot for you. Noctem was our first food stop in Quebec and definitely one of the most memorable. My wife and I just checked into our hotel and were pretty tired from a long day of travel. We sat at the bar of the brewery (which has a lot of cool cat motifs). I ordered an espresso (and love that they had an espresso machine at the bar), while my wife had a gin and tonic. The gins they stocked were all locally distilled and she had fun choosing a gin. The reason this place stood out to us: It had the most delicious "farm to table" poutine on the menu. As I understand, the menu here changes fairly often so I am not sure you will get to experience it, but I sincerely hope you do. Even though, I'm sure most anything on the menu will be delightful. This poutine had the most delicious sliced steak on top of it, with a delightful light but not too greasy gravy, cheese curds and potatoes. It was a meal that we talked about for the rest of the trip and still remember fondly, mostly because of how soft and delicious the steak was. The steak on top of the poutine was heavy, but it all came together quite wonderfully. We had a wonderful meal and enjoyed our time at the bar. The service was so friendly and the food was wonderful! We ordered a flight of beers and several appetizers to share. The stouts were particularly good. As was the goat cheese mousse with toasted bread and the duck hearts with wild blueberries, fennel, and celeriac. I'd never had duck hearts before and omg soooo good! Nice setting. The beer was very good. My favorite was the Catnip IPA and my wife liked her golden ale. I got the marinated vegetables for an appetizer. The were good, but they seemed to be missing something, like maybe a little hot pepper would add zing. My wife pointed out that it was supposed to have onions, which it didn't, so maybe that was what was missing. My wife got the summer salad, with tomatoes and honeydew melon. We both got the burger for dinner. Not a huge fan of a burger with pork in it, but the overall burger experience was great. I got salad instead of fries, which I enhanced with the delicious homemade bacon that my wife didn't want on her burger. My wife got poutine with hers, which she thought was a waste. By far my favorite brewery in Quebec City!! I stopped in twice during my stay. I think I tried every single one of their beers offered on tap! And I can tell you with all honesty, I didn't try one that I didn't like! The IPAs are all on point, my faves were the Moloko Plus and the Catnip! As for food, I ordered the chicken and waffles which is actually a sandwich and the waffles are filled with cheese!!! The coke slaw it comes with is good too! The second trip I ordered the nachos and the potato salad. Both were good and unique, very different than American nachos and P salad. The nachos came out looking like chili surrounded with nacho chips, good flavor! The potato salad had an egg on top and a giant slab of bacon! It was very different but doesn't disappoint. Two main reasons exist to visit Noctem. The first is that they get really inspired and creative with their beers. I chanced upon them as a snow storm diverted my plane back to Portland, but consider it pure luck in hindsight. A great find! Trust me on the beer. Unusual but innovative. Second, I love the cat theme, all the way to the artwork and incorporation of the Simpson's cat. Lots of dog breweries but never any love for cats. Til now. Bravo! I tour in a psychedelic rock band and we came into Quebec today for a show. This restaurant was recommended to us by a barista at a lovely local coffee shop. Despite touring for four years and visiting every major city in North America, I've never actually written a Yelp review. When I noticed the lack of reviews for this new restaurant, I felt compelled. Nursing a hangover from my 32nd birthday, my meal was like peace after wartime. With my band mates, we dined on rabbit and pork rilletes, goat cheese, seared fish, and pulled-pork-stuffed roasted quail (or similar?). The goat cheese was among the best I've tried. All entrees were thoughtful, modern, and well-executed, while maintaining the comforting humility that is the hallmark of neighborhood pub fare. For dessert, we had the ice cream sandwich and a pumpkin tarte so good that our drummer laughed in nearly psychotic glee for 30 seconds after the first bite. By report, the draft beers were also excellent but I was still too far in the throes of my hangover to partake. The decor is simple, clean, and contemporary. Soul music delighted us the entire meal. And foremost, our server Emy was full of enthusiasm, kindness, warmth, and complete knowledge of the fare. If I lived here, I'd be here all time. read more

As a graduate student, I have often come here since their opening last October to grab a beer and work on my papers/thesis/presentations (sigh). Why? Although it is situated in downtown Quebec, it is surprisingly quiet in the afternoons....and, importantly, it has excellent beer to accompany my writing!!! Their beers cover a broad range of styles to satisfy everyone, although my preferred ones are the Saison and Sour ones. I used to arrive right after lunch and work until 4-5pm, when it would get busier. I grab a nice beer, sit on their quite cozy wood bench (they seem scary at first, but I soon learnt that the benches are more comfortable than the chairs for long, afternoon work) and work on their music (sometimes rock, sometimes indie, sometimes jazzy or even orchestral!). However, I have recently changed this habit, because of the lunch menu.... Since this summer, they now offer 3 lunch dishes (in addition to their standard menu) that are always refreshing. The first times I saw the facebook posts of the menu, I was directly attracted. And then, I decided to actually try one of them. That salad turned out to be the best salad I ever ate. It had melon dipped in Absinthe in it. I have eaten twice more for lunch since then, and I am still not disappointed. Sadly, they don't offer these 3 lunch dishes for dinner (which means you have to jump on the occasion to come here for lunch!). I say sadly, because, unfortunately, the dinner menu lacks ''freshness'': if you plan to eat vedgies at Noctem for dinner, don't count much on it. That doesn't mean that the menu is bad. Actually, all their dinner dishes are reaaaallly good, but you need to be ready for meat! This review has mainly turned around the food, but let's not forget the beer, as this is first and foremost, a brew pub. As I mentioned, I prefer the Saison and the Sour styles here. They always try new combinations of ingredients in theses styles (herbs, lemon, apricots, pomelo, strawberries) and they are quite successful. They also have a very good double IPA (Pachamana) and Cream Ale (CatKenny). They do serve flights for the curious ones and I do suggest them for those of you who want to try more than 1 beer here. Tip: If you are here for the evening and you don't feel like drinking beer, ask the barman to concoct you a marvelous cocktail, which can be beer based. They also always have cider and wine on the menu. If you don't feel like drinking alcohol at all, they have homemade soda pops, with their syrups made with fruits, herbs or even hops! Our first evening in Quebec, we walked around the neighborhood, looking for some place for a meal. I also have a latex allergy, which can make finding places that don't use latex gloves in cooking a problem. We glanced at the menu posted outside, which looked really good, a nice selection of pub food, and large/small plates. Our french is limited, but it seemed to me that the offerings were also locally sourced and organic. We didn't realize it was a brew pub until we were inside asking about the gloves, but by that time, I'd decided that if I couldn't eat my supper, I could get nutrients via beer, and be ok for a night. But luckily for me and my tummy, no latex in use! The beer was delicious, fresh, clean tastes (my favorite was the Maneki Neko Pale Ale and Javaczuk liked the Catbert Grisette Brett). He had the need burger and I had some delicious chili to go with it. The decor was very cat-centric, which we enjoyed, missing our local kitties from home. The service was superb. We truly expected to get back there while in Quebec, but our waitress told us of some other local pubs, so we had to try those, too. But, of the ones we tried, this remained my favorite. read more

It was decent, not great, but ok. I'm from New England so I'm really spoiled when it comes to IPA's. The ambiance inside is nice. Cute spot with outdoor picnic tables on a patio overlooking the street. There was a mix-up with drink delivery and I ended up with someone else's beer instead of the cider I ordered. Servers were friendly and corrected the error as soon as they realized it. Ordering in English was no problem and menus were in both English and French. There's an open area nearby where troubadours might set up and play a song if you're lucky. I realize all of this sounds suspect and horribly touristy, but this brewery is actually in a cool going-out neighborhood outside the Old Town. We didn't have any food other than some "chili" peanuts (just heavily seasoned with smoked paprika), but the menu didn't appeal that much to us -- heavy brewpub and comfort-food fare that was a little on the pricey side for what it was. My hubby's pint of beer was good if not memorable. Stop in for a drink but don't spend your whole night here if you're hungry for a nice meal. read more

My fiancé and I came here for dinner a week ago and enjoyed it a lot. They where extremely busy and had a beer tasting going on, but found us a seat in no time. Our server also tried to help translate into English for us and took time to make sure we had everything we needed, which was hugely appreciated considering how busy the place was. By the time our food came there where no seats available in the restaurant which is always a good sign. We both had two ciders and my fiancé tested the stout beer from a local brewery doing the tasting. For food my fiancé had waffles made from Mac and cheese with chicken and said it was unreal and like nothing he'd had before. I had the rabbit and it was really really good. 100% recommend this place. Great prices, great service, great atmosphere and great food! read more

We came here our first night in town. We like local, craft beers so it was fun to try one out in Canada. The beers were great but our server wasn't. I'm not sure if it was because our French was limited or he was having a bad night. We sat outside as it was a pleasant evening. I had a flight and let him choose the beers as that part of the menu was only in French. A different server brought it out and took pleasure in giving lots of details (in English) about each selection. The milkshake beer was my favorite. My husband had the cream ale ambree americaine which he enjoyed. The food menu was pretty small but eclectic and fun. I had a chili with shredded beef. It was tasty but nothing special. My husband had a chicken waffle and liked it. Both of my daughters had a pizza roll with homemade pepperoni. The pepperoni was brown/grey like sausage and a much thicker cut than US pepperoni. Both liked the roll but pulled out the pepperoni. Our server seemed to forget us after he delivered the food because he never came by again until he dropped off the bill. Never asked if we wanted anything else, another beer. While we enjoyed the beer, there are so many fantastic choices in QC, I'd skip this place next time unless I sat at the bar where you'd easily have the bar tender's attention. read more
