This is a home on the island of Kauai, but not just a home. It's a wildlife reserve, a paradise, an estate, a Hawaiian paradise. My mom got remarried back in 2003, and her husband took her to Lakeside Estate for their month-long honeymoon. She invited my boyfriend of the time and I to join them for a weekend in the huge house and it was the best 3 day trip of my life. It has it's own private lake, a 3-hole golf course, a waterfall, a tiny white-sand beach (on the lake), a rainforest, and pretty much every amenity you could want on your tropical vacation. I'm sure it's expensive as hell, but I wasn't paying. As far as the location...well yes, it would be nice if it was actually on a beach. But you have a little beach of your own, and all of Kauai's fabulous beaches are just short drives away. You are ten minutes from Princeville (shops, resorts, restaurants, etc) and 20 minutes from Hanalei, but set back from the main highway by a private road. Wake up every morning to see what new waterfalls have appeared on the mountains outside. You'll have to take a look at my pics to fully appreciate the place (and the website). But really, if you can afford it, stay somewhere like this, not a fancy-schmancy overpriced resort. Oh one thing....the geckos were a bit creepy. Ok sort of cute, and harmless, but they cover the windows at night and bark at you. But other than that, perfect.

It is a very short drive to all the wonderful things to see and do on the north and east sides of the island. But even a drive to other parts of the island would just make for a nice day trip. But back to the cottage itself....it is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed! We cooked dinners most every night at the cottage either in the well stocked kitchen or on the Weber gas grill outside. We even managed to use the slow cooker one day. :) Every detail has been thought of here....from the wonderful bedding to the soft towels to the easy opening/closing windows all with screens intact. The grounds are truly a sight to see! Every day we enjoyed listening to the variety of birds and other animals. The beautiful fruit trees all around, and a nice hammock to enjoy it all. We also made good use of the hot tub after our hiking and snorkeling endeavors. I would highly recommend this place for your stay! It was just the perfect size for the 2 of us. At the end of an exhaustive list of serious problems, the cockroach infestation got the better of us. On entering, you realize the place is totally misrepresented. Far from being a quaint Hawaiian throwback, the 'suite' hasn't had any love since the 70s. First, it's filthy: the fluorescent striplight housing throughout is full of dead flies and roaches, the skirting boards are black with dirt, the shower curtains are flecked with black mould, the grout is disgusting, the brown bathroom tiles are stained, the couches in the living room area are revolting (creases in the old grey leather are dark with years of dirt - we had to throw bedsheets over them just to be able to sit on them), the mattress on the master bed has broken springs that stick out, the curtains are non-existent, the beach paraphernalia is rusty and broken, the kitchen has the bare minimum of crockery and utensils (good luck opening wine with the pathetic corkscrew), the kettle was broken, the fridge had been painted white (assumedly because it was disgusting beforehand)... I really could go on. But the climax of this disaster was the cockroach infestation. We first saw a couple of roaches on our first night but the owner told us it was a tropical island and there was no avoiding them. We tried so very hard to swallow this until we visited other friends staying nearby in other houses that had been updated in the past half-century. Obviously, they did not have any problems with roaches. On the fourth night, we returned to a kitchen alive with cockroaches. We had passed the tipping point of a stray roach passing through - we never cooked in the kitchen and no food had been left anywhere. It's clear that the house needs fumigating. We left the following day and flew home. The owner was lovely at the beginning of the booking but, as the problems presented themselves, she wouldn't even entertain the idea of a refund. We emailed her immediately on arrival to explain that we wanted to leave and even offered to pay for a few nights (so she could retain some of the income from our stay). The answer was a resounding "no". She wouldn't acknowledge that the house is in a state of disrepair. She offered us a new kettle and a re-clean (which never happened) but, frankly, the place needs a total overhaul. If we had paid a third of the considerable price (over $2000 for the week), we might have had to accept that you get what you pay for. But, for over $2000, you expect a minimal level of quality. Here, the owners are cashing in on a near-beach location - they have absolutely no interest in putting any of their money into fixing this disaster zone. In the end, we have complained to VRBO and will be seeking a refund through Amex. Interestingly, the Hanalei Villa website no longer works and the VRBO listing has disappeared. Very odd; I just hope the health inspectors have closed the property and that the owners will be obligated to sort the place out. It's an absolute disgrace. For the record, we've travelled pretty extensively over the course of our lives, stayed in our fair share of shitholes, but this place is well over the line in terms of what is acceptable. Please, please go elsewhere.

There are two rooms to be rented out; one in-law and one room that the owner, Lee and his wife, Kathleen had converted their garage into. Both were oh so cute, quaint, and original. I loved the little knick-knacks that were sprinkled around in each place, def gives it da local flava bra. The room that my friend and I stayed in was labeled "The Cottage" and was the in-law. It had an upstairs with a full bed, one shared bathroom, 2 tvs, kitchenette and lanai-pretty full for amenities. There's also an additional bed that when you enter the cottage, is on the left, perhaps for more than just 2 people. The place can easily fit 3-4 people. Prices were super nice. At 60 bucks a night, this deal was a grand steal in my book. The hosts were so hospitable and Lee was just the nicest person! He had greeted us with a gift basket full of yummy hawaiian treats! He even replenished the creamer for coffee when we ran out! How awesome is that? There's even a little pool and seating area where you can rest after a long day's hike in the Napali coast. Or better yet, rest outside in his swinging hammock, feeling the warm sun rays hit your face. I was definitely in vacay mode the whole time I was there! The place is actually fairly easy to find from the Li'hue airport and so if you are looking for that special, on the cheaper end-but not motel 8 cheap vacation rental that gives you a local island feel, then I highly recommend this place.

Fortunately, I had an old co worker who told me years ago that he stayed at this time share in Kaui. I contacted him about the information and several months later, we made it to the timeshare! Our unit was more than spacious for two people and had all basic utilities.The views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay were just outside our windows!!! We scored with the location just outside of town with a short drive to the town center where we enjoyed several food options. We decided to act all touristy for a few days and explored some of the other hotels nearby which was nice to see and what the offered. If you want that small town vibe where you fit in with the locals and have a wonderful spacious time share, this is your place.

It is also a short drive to Hanalei Town Center where you will find a lot of dining choices from fast food to sit down restaurants. While you are there check out Tahiti Nui Bar, their pizzas are great and the live band entertainment is a blast. We travelled with our teenage boys and there are so many fun activites to do like kayaking, paddle boarding and ziplining to name a few. I highly recommend staying at KauaiDreamin. It is a perfect place for couples and families as well. It had all the amenities we needed. All in all, it's a great vacation rental!

The complex itself is located conveniently next to shopping and eating. It's about a 5-7 minute drive into the town of Kapaa which has numerous shopping and eating opportunities. The central location is also convenient to everywhere else on the island. Lihue airport is about 10 minutes away, but we did not hear a single plane during our stay. The condo we stayed in was oceanfront and really great. Beautiful view of the ocean. We booked it through VRBO and received what we think is a reasonable price. The condo was quiet with the only noise from the ocean, not bad! The bathroom was updated. The bed was soft and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you need, very well-equipped and supplied. Washer and drier is very convenient. Cable TV. Lots of leftover DVDs to watch too, nice! Overall, a great place to stay during your Hawaiian vacation.

All units are also staggered so you can see the person in the next unit which is a plus. Lots of places within walking distance to eat and drink or drive to in historic Kaapa town.. Also close to Costco, 2 Safeway's, and a Foodland. I would stay in Kaapa over Poipu or Princeville. It's not as touristy and more local.

I am writing this review because the service both my brother and I received from Therese at Serenity was awesome! My brothers home rental was clean, well stocked, great location and priced right! The property manager was extremely helpful and friendly and went out of her way to make sure that our family had everything they needed for a great stay. My husband and I had rented a much more expensive home through Kauai Vacation Rentals. To contrast, our rental was not cleaned, the yard was overgrown, no beach chairs, umbrellas or beach toys were available. There were not enough towels, electricity was turned off in one of the master bedrooms and it was clear when we arrived that they were not expecting us even though we had booked the place 9 months earlier! I would return to Anini Beach in a minute, but I would only use Serenity Vacation Homes to book our home rental. You will love the location, the setting and the amenities offered! You will also appreciate the service you receive from Serenity.
