The bar has some wonderful outside seating, which was perfect to enjoy on a pretty day (and the end of May in Stockholm is kind of a dream). They offer a great variety of wines (especially by the bottle, but they offer quite a few by the glass, too), and we had a great bottle that was recommended by the owner. A really cool place. I'd happily return to try more of their wines.

They refer to themselves as a 'food court' restaurant, which is a disservice: the food is WAY better than food court fare, indeed it is gourmet. You just happen to be able to order from the different menus of the different restaurants. The service was very friendly & efficient. And, best, there was none of the usual 'Stockholm Lag' of 45-60 mins between starter & entrees. We started with charcuterie (really, really good), and cod with celery & sea foam (brilliant), and the steak tartare. The tartare was amazing. In fact, it was so good, I snarled like a deranged dog when Sweetie tried to share some. For our main, we all had the burger, which was damned good. The fries were good, but not as good as other places in Stockholm (Nybrogatan 38, par example...). The wine list was good, & reasonably priced. The bar was cozy, with an awesome selection of spirits. The Burgundy was really good, & we'll definitely be back.

It is part of the increased ambitions of NK when it comes to its food and beverage offering. The wine bar is on the top floor of the department store and so far it is often a very relaxed and calm place. The space is considerable bigger than the original Gaston which is nice for larger groups but it does also lack some of the charm of the smaller Gaston. I do still like it though as it is easy to just pop in for a glass without having to worry if there is space. The selection here is a bit smaller than in the original Gaston but it is still good for a wine bar. Usually around 10 wines by the glass and they also offer the nice sommelier's choice where the sommelier will select 3 wines and give you smaller tasters (approximately 1/3 to 1/2 glass) for 120 SEK. Great fun to be able to taste a lot of different wines and also try things one otherwise would not go for. I would prefer a better selection of champagne by the glass, it has lately been the good but boring Charles Heidseck and I would rather see some of the more exciting champagnes on the list. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and really interested in wine so always fun to chat a bit with them. As it is often rather calm here they do also have time to chat longer. It is also possible to order food from the other restaurants on the same floor and eat it at the tables at Gaston. One major drawback is however the limited opening hours - they cannot be open later than the department store so not open after 20.00 on weekdays and only until 18.00 on Saturdays.

They offer a good selection of mainly ecological wines by the glass. Three to four sparkling wines, and around 10 each of white and reds offered by the glass as well as a handful of artisanal beers and some other beverages represents a good selection. The wines are in general good quality, perhaps not the most exciting ones but well selected wines of good quality and at a pretty good price level. Most wines by the glass can also be had in smaller taster glasses. They also have a small selection of snacks and simple dishes to nibble on while sipping your wine. The place is nicely designed and in summer the outdoor seating is really pleasant. The service is friendly but my main objection to the place is how they organized things. All orders need to be placed at the bar so no table service. That would be fine if they were reasonably fast but on the past two occasions we have skipped ordering a second glass due to the line being to long and not moving at all. They would really make more money and be a more pleasant place if they had table service.

We were given a standing table when we got in, but quickly moved to a couple of seats by the bar. We were one of 8 couples at the bar, so yes, very date night vibes. For our first round of drinks, we got the Easy Martini and Let them Eat Cake. The latter was too sweet for our liking but the Easy Martini had the perfect amount of sweet and tart. Our second round was the winner with the Girl Dinner and their Old Fashioned. The Girl dinner was crafted to perfection and possibly the best version of a martini we've ever had. The old fashioned too, made with WhistlePig 10 years was fantastic. The service cannot be faulted, we profusely thanked the lovely bartender, vowing to crow about it to whoever cares to listen and to be back when we are in Stockholm next.
