I walked over and asked if I could enter. One (blond, 60ish) said, "No, we open at 10:30." Would have been such a problem to let me browse while they got organized?? I left.

I stopped by this dump, Angelique Boutique looking at some women's clothing standing outside on a rack. I was trying on a jacket and knew it was a women's jacket. A lady who works there comes out of the store and asks if I needed something. I said I'm trying on this jacket and it doesn't fit me. She says, of course it doesn't because it's women's. I said since when does it matter if you have money to spend and you like something why can't I look at it and buy it. She snatched the jacket out of my hand and I said I'm in a free country and I'm free to look and buy anything I want. It doesn't matter who you are or what your sexual orientation is, you should be able to look at any damn piece of clothing you want. My husband came over and found out what happened to me. I explained the discrimination I experienced and how rude, racist and judgmental she was. He took a picture of this dump called Angelique. We left furious and beyond hurt. As we were walking around looking at other shops, the lady came out of nowhere and was following us. She approached me wanting to apologize. Her excuse was she didn't know I was gay. She said she was a ballerina. She said she never discriminates anyone , however she already judged me for looking at women's clothing. I feel as if the apology was insincere. She already judged a book by its cover and it was too late to accept her apology. I can't believe in this day and age someone is judged by someone for who they are. The Bay Area is well known for its diversity and different cultures. Actions speak louder than words. She didn't hurt my feelings, she hurt me for being who I am. If you're an openly gay man shopping in downtown Sonoma, stay away from Angelique's Boutique. They will judge you before talking to you.

The negative point, was that the prices are more like consignment pricing than thrift pricing. In other words, why are the prices so high on clothing if it is donated? On my visit they had clothes on racks outside for a dollar on up. The front half of the store is dedicated towards clothing and the rear half of the store is dedicated to everything else. There are three dressing rooms at the halfway point. They have a very large media section where you can pick up vinyl records for just a dollar apiece. Lots of CDs, VHS tapes and books, more than you'll find it any Goodwill. There's lots of collectibles in the form of video games, glassware, jewelry, accessories, and memorabilia. However, I do have to side with those who said the prices are all over the place and many prices are not in line with thrift shop pricing. It is offset by their tag color sale prices which certainly helps. So yes, you can find some deals here, but there are many items that are well above what Goodwill would ask. That's what keeps them from hitting the four star range in my book. Cash and credit, no refunds and no public bathroom. These 10 informative photos should at least get you in the door.

Prices are astronomically high for used, donated items. Some of the staff were polite while others acted as if they could not see or hear us. If you are looking to spend way too much money on mediocre stuff this is your place, otherwise maybe shop elsewhere.

Over various episodes he took many unique forms, and you never knew who or what would turn up. And so it is with Artifax, which looks like a completely different shop every time I walk in. The first time Gayle and I visited a few years ago, I was particularly taken with some wood boxes. The next time we came in the boxes were gone, but Gayle snapped up some Vietnamese table art. Last week that stuff was gone and the place seemed to feature more clothing in the back and kind of a Tchotchke density up front. It's all original looking and the store staff have always been helpful and friendly. Nothing piqued our fancy during this visit, but I'm sure that Artifax will shape shift into something else the next time.

Other merchandise is somewhat costly, but the quality of fabrics, designs and craftsmanship surely warrant the investments. I'll be going back again and again! Bravo to the ladies who run Artifax!
