The girl that colored my hair came up with nothing close to what I asked for. She offered to fix it and turned it grey (not what I wanted). Everyone was very nice and kept offering to fix it but after two visits, grey hair, and hair falling out, I was still expected to pay to come back a third time and fix my hair. As a few other reviewers mentioned, I followed Kelly to Nomobo when it opened, and I highly recommend her services at this salon. She is fantastic with color (especially blonde), her technique allows me to deal with outgrowth better, and she's a fantastic listener when you want to make a change. I've always been very satisfied with my cut and color from Kelly, but this past week I decided to make a huge change (for me) and go back to my natural brunette self. I have never been happier, and I'm so grateful to Kelly for making the transition easy and enjoyable! Samantha has been styling my hair for many years (8, maybe?) and I've never been to a better stylist. In the first few years, I would sometimes stray to another stylist because of convenience due to either location or timing, but for at least the past five years, I've only been going to Sam no matter what the circumstance. i am writing this review based on my numerous, amazing experiences with Kelly!!! I actually moved to Chicago roughly 6 years ago, and had a really hard time finding a salon/stylist who I trusted with coloring my gross, mousy brown hair blonde. Late one night, after tirelessly searching for stylists in the city, I found Kelly's stylist bio. I'll have you know I would have traveled quite a ways to meet her, but she turned out to be in the same neighborhood!!! From our first meeting on, her professionalism and her personality perfectly match her AMAZING TALENTS of anything hair related. We clicked immediately, and my hair has never looked better!!! I followed my hairdresser CJ to Nomobo and the experience here was great. CJ IS AMAZING with my wavy hair and always has me leaving feeling and looking great. I've never been disappointed. He also has an amazing personality and I always look forward to talking to him during our appointments. I just can't say enough great things about him. The salon itself is great. In a convenient location, small in a good way and the staff are very nice. I was immediately greeted to check in and offered a beverage and I was even checked in on again while waiting to make sure someone had helped me. This place is great, it's got a nice ambiance and is comfortable and chic. I have been getting my hair cut by Shelly for more than two years now and she always does an outstanding job. I had been looking for a hair stylist for a while before finding her and I'm so glad I did because she is just great. Went here on a whim because I was finally ready to take the plunge and cut my loong hair into an asymmetrical lob. I was in town visiting a friend, so I was really taking a risk (I'm so damn picky when it comes to someone cutting my hair. I mean, incredibly hard to please). I called when they opened, and they were able to fit me in that day with Kelly, who is an absolute dream. I came in with a handful of pictures of what I wanted, as well as a few of what I definitely did NOT want, and we talked for 5 minutes or so about what I wanted it to look like, my maintenance style, etc. Kelly was super cool, listened, and asked questions to clarify before we got started. I was feelin real confident about my decision already. She gave me an incredible head massage, which must be noted. Usually I'm thinking "oh god, my head hurts, I can't hold it up any longer!" or "dang I wish they'd massage the very bottom of my head a little more". This didn't happen with Kelly. It was perfect. Then she got to cutting my hair--and did a fantastic job. She cut a conservatively at first, and then after she had blow dried my hair, we went back and ended up cutting a little more off the ends and thinning it out even more internally. The conversation was easy breezy beautiful--it wasn't awkward or forced like it sometimes can be. She also didn't talk my ear off. Overall, it was a really great experience. $60 for a bomb head massage, haircut, and blowdry/style. I would highly recommend giving this salon (and Kelly in particular) a shot. As with all salons, being as specific as possible, and having a conversation about what you want and don't want before getting started, and trusting your stylist goes such a long way. Kelly--you rule, and if I ever move to Chicago, you are my go to girl!! read more

After I had a few bad experiences at other salons around Chicago, a trusted friend (with great hair) recommended that I try Kelly at Nomobo, and I could not be happier! I've been dying my hair in the red palate for 7+ years and Kelly did a great consultation, worked with me to figure out the right colors and applications, and had fun with it. She was also super efficient - I've had the same processes take up to 3 hours and I was in and out with her in under 2 - and really nice! She did the cut perfectly and I walked out with a bounce in my step. The salon itself is very easy to get to, it's clean and well kept, it's not very big but it doesn't need to be, and everyone there seems very nice and they are very professional while still be young and creative with their craft. I would highly recommend Nomobo, and Kelly for anyone who is looking for a colorist. read more

I started seeing Kelly after a series of blondes gone wrong :( I have a less than stellar dishwater blonde that turns brassy and orange within what seems seconds. One stylist left me with apricot hair, another with a streaky orange/auburny shade -- neither the natural-but-better look I was hoping for and had before moving to Chicago. Then I found Kelly and the clouds dissipated and the birds started singing! No, not really, it was winter, come on. She did however, manage to find the perfect tone to flatter my complexion and brighten my hair, while leaving the mystery of whether that's my natural color and minimal maintenance. Additionally, I think she is incredibly sweet and realistic. She will tell you if the look you are going for is going to be difficult to maintain or if the cut will not fit your lifestyle. She is great and I will follow her anywhere! read more

I booked an appointment here last winter because I was too impatient to wait for an appointment at my regular salon. The 5 star rating pulled me in. I asked for a pixie cut and came armed with pictures of similar cuts as well as a picture of a previous cut I've had in the past. I know its pretty difficult to get a haircut exactly the same as a previous cut, especially when the stylist has changed, but the cut I received was straight up bad. The stylist decided that a razor would be better for my hair texture, and cut it in maybe 30 minutes. I'm used to my pixie cuts taking a lot longer-- I have a lot more hair on one side of my head apparently, so i was surprised. The one thing i specifically asked for were thick bangs, I hate ( hate hate hate) piecy-y bangs. Not only did I get piecy bangs, the next day ( and every day following until it grew out) when I washed my hair it swooped to the left as though I only blew air at it from the right. Haircuts before and since have never done this. On top of everything my haircut ended up costing like 75 dollars because I unknowingly booked with the owner. The full 5 star ratings scared me away initially from reviewing, but I'm about to get another haircut soon and I would appreciate honest reivews. read more

The appointment times are great to work with any schedule and they are so flexible. This is also kinda silly, but I like that you can pay and leave a tip with a credit card. This salon is amazing. I love the look of the salon, and the receptionist was very sweet. Went in yesterday for the first time and worked with Meagan. SHE IS SO AMAZING, I'm mad at myself for not going to her sooner. I came in with super blonde hair with about 2 inch grown out roots. I told Meagan I wanted a darker color, but to still have some blonde pieces peak out. That was exactly what she did. The color came out darker than I had in mind, but I still love it! The whole process was very enjoyable bc of how nice and welcoming Meagan was. I've been to many different salons for my hair and the one thing people lack is continuing conversation during a long process, and Meagan did not lack the at all! The shampoo station was amazing, the most comfortable chair-neck I've ever sat in, and Meagan was so gentle it was actually so relaxing I could fall asleep. I have been getting my haircut from Samantha for about 7 years now. Even when I moved to Denver I would still come back for haircuts. She is incredible. I have had long hair, short hair and a pixie cut. Everytime I leave completely satisfied. There was a time when I was coloring my hair pretty regularly and she is very skilled in color. I have nothing, but the best things to say about Nomobo! They make you feel special and the salon is super clean and comfortable. I recently moved back to Chicago from LA and have tried many different salons/stylists in the city and nothing compares to Nomobo. The main reason I love the salon so much is because of Kelly. Kelly was my colorist/stylist in 2015 before I moved out to Los Angeles. I knew I would miss her, but I figured I would be able to find an amazing replacement out in LA . Well to be honest, I found a couple different places that did an ok job, but I was never completely satisfied with either the tone, color or cut. 3 years later I am back in Chicago and thank goodness I was able to find Kelly again. Words can't describe how talented she is. Kelly listens and understands exactly what I want. At other salons I always had the fear of how my color/cut would turn out as the chair swung around to the mirror. Not with Kelly! I just want to say thank you for being so great and for bringing my hair back to life! Nothing feels better than getting greater results than you expected. I've been getting my haircut by CJ for nearly 3 years so this review is long overdue. My girlfriend found reviews of him at a Wicker Park salon near where I used to live and have been going ever since. CJ not only provides me with a quality haircut each time, but is personable and a great guy. It was almost exactly a year ago that I was running late for a haircut because I thought it was an hour later than it was. When the salon called to check if I was coming I realized I messed up and I asked if he could get me in for a quick trim instead because I was proposing to my girlfriend that night. CJ stepped up and overdelivered and was able to bump his next two clients back to get me in for a full haircut. Now the proposal didn't work and she said no, but........just kidding she said yes! I've been living in Downers Grove for 18 months now and I still make the trip to the City on Saturday mornings. Thanks CJ and the Nomobo Salon!!! read more

LOVE this place. Shelly has been doing my hair for a few years now, so of course I followed her when she opened up her own salon. Nomobo is an incredible space. It has a great vibe, and is conveniently located. It is definitely NOT a chop shop. Calling Shelly talented would not do her work justice--she has this crazy innate artistic styling ability thing going on. It is obvious she cares about what she does, and won't let you leave her chair until you have exactly what you want.
