Traveling in Nashville and came upon this restaurant. I was in the mood for some sushi and this was the right place. Great little spot with plenty of tables and booths. Menu had plenty of options. We got seated right away. For appetizers we ordered the Vietnamese chicken wings, the gyoza, a miso soup and the ginger salad to start. For our meal, we went with the dragon roll, the rainbow roll, and the sesame chicken bowl. We finished with mochi ice cream (2 strawberries and a green tea). They had no mango mochi. Overall great food, definitely worth trying. The portions were big and it tasted delicious. The sesame chicken bowl had way too much sauce for our liking. The main little issue I had was that they never picked up our plates during our meal, so our table was packed with different plates. Even when the dessert came, plates were still all on our table. This sushi restaurant had great staff. I was considering giving it a 3 1/2 stars, but it deserves the four mainly for the experience I did like the fried rice and the sushi was good as well. We had gotten the California roll. I will say if you are wishing for a sweeter or more flavorful sushi, I wouldn't go for that option, but they had many different specialties that you can choose from. I ordered the cucumber avocado roll and the vegan ramen. The cucumber avocado roll was what you would expect. Vegan ramen- I would not get it again. Broth lacked flavor. The noodles used were rice noodles instead of the vegan ramen noodles I would expect. Others in my party ordered the cabbage roll which I heard was good, one of the burritos which also got good reviews, the creamy chicken ramen which was fine, and the double salmon roll which I guess was not what they were expecting from a double salmon roll. My cousin and I had lunch here recently and it was really good. There was only one waitress and she was swamped and apologized that it would be a bit before she could get to us. We did not wait too long and she got us some sodas while we waited for her to take our order. We started with the Vegetable Gyoza. Nicely fried, good flavor inside, nice dipping sauce. For my entrée, I had the Spicy Bulgogi Pork - spicy bulgogi pork, kimchi, scallions, and steamed rice with mixed vegetables. I really liked this. Good sized portion, especially since I added the mixed vegetables. A bit spicy but not overwhelming. Good flavors throughout. My cousin had the Poke rice bowl: salmon, tuna, avocado, seaweed salad. I had seen this restaurant during my drive and one afternoon I drove in and had a fantastic experience. The service from our server was fantastic, she was very attentive. I ordered one of the specialty rolls with a poke bowl. Their way of preparing and ingredients are first class, every bite of the vegetables was so crisp and fresh and the aioli used in the roll was the perfect touch. Pulling up to Nomzilla, which sits in a small plaza on Gallatin Avenue in East Nashville, the last thing I thought I was about to get was some tasty, well priced and delicious sushi along with a gin gimlet! To say the least, Nomzilla was super "Nommy" and an absolute pleasant surprise! In all its essence, Nomzilla is a sushi and Asian fusion restaurant that serves a variety of dishes from common Asian dishes such as fried rice, bulgogi, curry, ramen, udon and of course, sushi. Additionally, you can get things like bao buns, brussels and wings. On all areas of the menu you can get vegan and veggie options as well. And of course you can wash all this stuff down with a craft cocktail or beer. The menu is decently hefty with options, so you could visit many times and definitely never get the same thing, but I would imagine after visiting this spot a few times you would have a favorite or seven. I rolled in with a few friends after sushi and cocktails. They have around 30 different rolls to choose from in addition to sashimi and hosomaki options. I went classic and specialty for my rolls with Spicy Tuna and Baker Twins. The ST is your standard roll, the Baker Twins was a house roll and twist on shrimp tempura with the addition of cream cheese, cucumber, crab meat, spicy mayo and eel sauce. No lie, may be my new favorite roll, not only for the taste but the price, as it was $11 and the spicy tuna was only $6! Drink wise, they have a well equipped and stocked bar with spirits, a great list of house cocktails and a small list of select beers. I ended up with a gin gimlet, which I did not know I wanted or was in need of! It was $9 and worth every penny. Service was the only thing that was off here. The place was not busy and there were several servers running around, but in general it was slow. Given the current state of things, I give service a pass for the most part. While it was delayed and slow here, all the fellas were super nice and helpful when they did stop by the table. Overall, Nomzilla is a solid place and one that may just become a regular reason I hit up East Nashville more frequently in the future! read more

Went here because of the good reviews. It's Thursday night and restaurant was relatively busy but not full. Ordered but it took 50 minutes to get our order to the table. When it hit here we were excited as the rolls looked good. However before we got the first bite, we saw a big piece of hair. When I say I went to Sushi heaven I'm not lying. I guarantee you will also. The fried rice hands down the best in town! The lady that is always there is the sweetest lady you will ever meet. It looks like the ownership changed recently. It was our first time here and we were the only people there when it opened. We are from Los Angeles and love sushi and Asian food. There were so many negative things about this experience here that we won't be coming back. - It took several minutes to get our order taken even though it was just us. - The hot tea came out tepid when it finally got to us after 10 minutes or so of waiting. - The tea had a strange taste almost like dirty dishwater and we couldn't even drink it. - The "sushi bowl" I ordered was $20 and the sauce was only lightly drizzled on top of the rice. It was such a small serving overall that I was still hungry after finishing it. - The tonkatsu soup was inedible and also tasted off like something was wrong with the broth so much so that my husband only ate a few bites and couldn't finish it. We should have requested a refund for that but we were so over it that we paid and left shortly after. - We had to ask for more water refills when our glasses had been empty for several minutes and when the server came back he only brought ONE water so we had to ask for another. At this point we were still the only two customers... Save yourself the trouble and don't come here. If you're looking for sushi, wait for one of the higher rated ones that only open in the evenings or on weekends. read more

The waiter (from the bar) didn't speak at all (no hello, just here's some water) and rarely came over to the table. He came over three times total - once to sit water down and take order, once to bring food and the last to grab the check that I had to ask someone else for. The experience wasn't great. I read the owners story prior to ordering and I was really excited about the concept. I ordered beef bulgogi which tasted nothing like it. It was more like beef and broccoli. For over $14 I expected more, both in terms of the flavor profile as well as the portion. The portion was small, more like a lunch special portion at other places. I read some other reviews it seems like the portion size is a problem for a lot of people. It's so sad because I really wanted to like and support this place. We came on Friday evening around 6pm right before it really started to get too busy. Service was a bit slow...and it took a while to get water and put our orders in, but the waiter was courteous and apologetic. For an appetizer, we ordered the Burmese tofu. Not exactly what we were imagining, but it was good! My boyfriend ordered The Vegan and Futomaki rolls. I didn't try them, but according to him they were delightful. I ordered the One Night in Bangkok and the Baker Twins rolls. I thoroughly enjoyed both my rolls! They were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to order either one of them again. This place is gone to shit ! Used to eat here as a treat because it was so good . The new ownership has definitely cut corners with cheap ingredients and products. They are trying to make the most money they can off a name that was built on quality and good service. They fired the whole staff except for some of the service staff but the chef who was there and was putting out beautiful dishes is no longer there. I've worked in this industry and what's happening is someone with no experience in restaurants has bought it and now they think that people will not notice the low quality ingredients. Shame this was a good staple for Nashville. I give it a year before this place is closed . read more
