This place is small, and full of local items for purchase, usually a table in the middle with bakery items for sale, and two long counters full of cakes as well as other baked goods. Not a lot of room to sit, but there is a bit. I have to tell you, the baked goods from this business are absolutely delicious. There's something about the dough that turns into the best king cakes, danish, etc that you'll ever want to eat. There is really nothing I've gotten here that I didn't love. But, what I will also tell you is don't expect overly friendly service. I've been in numerous times, and I can't say that I've been treated greeted or treated with anything other than what felt like I was a just a "next" on the list of things to do. No smiles, no niceties, no happy times, no kind looks. Almost as if helping me was an interruption in their day. And Even when no one else is waiting, there's a feeling of being rushed to make your purchase. Once they even left out part of my purchase in the hurry. I do love the bakery goods here, but I have to ask myself if it's actually worth the feelings I have after each purchase, that comes from the service. This is a 5 Star bakery, with 2 Star Service. Purchase a Nonna Randazzo's box King Cake from visiting Don Seafood in Hammond. Box identified King Cake as having Cream Cheese and Pecan Praline. When opened there was no Cream Cheese present, just icing and Pecan Praline with syrup. I call them to let them know that no cream cheese was there. I was told to contact Don Seafood. Don states that they just sell for them but have nothing to do with items missing. All money goes back to them. No resolution, loss of $25.00. Will not be buying or recommending their King Cake again read more

Both of my parents and I were born and raised here. We are very disappointed that a Randa so makes such an awful King Cake. We purchased two: a Pecan Praline and a Strawberry Cream Cheese for an astronomical price, and then we brought them to a family reunion. Everyone was kind to us, but spit it out, and placed them back into a napkin. I bit into the cake after scraping off an insanely thick amount of icing, and I couldn't believe how bad it was! The woman claims to use the same recipe, yet the taste, look and texture are completely different. *King Cake Review!!* Are y'all sick of my king cake reviews yet? I hope not because I have quite a few more. This one is a little different, though, because it's for a shipped king cake. Now before you purists get your Mardi Gras feathers in a ruffle....yes, I do know all about the Randazzo family drama (if you don't, Google it) and the different bakeries that encompass said drama. There have even been lawsuits over the Randazzo family name and you might very well have had a Randazzo's king cake from a bakery with an entirely different name. One thing is for sure, whether it has the Randazzo's name or another one entirely (hi...Caluda's) their recipe is the bomb and is the very best in alllll of king cake land, and that is a hill I'm willing to die on. I have always wondered if a king cake that has been shipped is just as amazing as if you had gone and picked it up yourself. I have shipped king cakes before and my recipients always say they're good but let's face it, they might just be saying that to spare my feelings. And besides, a shipped cake that's below par is better than no king cake at all...am I right? So I was never positive if I could trust they were just as good. This year I shipped one to my brutally honest kid who just moved out of state. I knew she'd tell me the truth, whether I wanted to hear it or not. After her initial elated excitement of getting a piece of Louisiana shipped straight to her door several states away, she and her hubby dug in and she said, and I quote, "mom it's so good, so fresh and soft, so unbelievably amazing I feel like I'm in Louisiana right now eating it" and continued to rave about it all day to me, Facebook, her new neighbors, literally everyone. Then the next day (and this is the best review of all) she asked me if I wanted to see something embarrassing. Of course I do, lol. She texted me a picture of the king cake, (knife in the box...of course) with only one tiny little slice left. They DEVOURED it in less than 12 hours. I rest my case, your honor. If you have out-of-town people who love Louisiana, and are missing it like crazy, do them a solid and ship them a king cake and ship it from one of the Randazzo's. It's pricy but so worth it! We got our king cakes today because we had them shipped to us and I think we will be finding some place else to purchase our king cakes. We got a traditional one and a praline one. We wanted to share with our neighbors because we have moved to the Midwest and wanted to introduce this to others. Only the praline one looks like someone put it in the package and gave it a big hug and like they put it in the packaging still hot because the toppings are smeared all over. So all in all it was a terrible experience for spending this much money. I hope they work on fixing their shipping or they just stop offering it. It's hard to even enjoy the traditional one. Just big waste of money. If you are local it might be great but we will be going else where for ours because I am embarrassed to present this to people. read more

We ended up getting petit fours which were soft and sweet. That's how petit fours are suppose to taste! If the sugar flakes off...don't eat it! Nonna Randazzo's Bakery is the closest to my house and we love the king cake, pastries and donuts. It's smells amazing when you walk in and you tend to try different pastries with you go, so far I had no disappointments. The staff is great and they get you in and out. King cake season you have a little wait but it moves pretty fast. You can order your king cake ahead of time and pick it up the same day. They also serve lunch. read more

I recently ordered a king cake online for pickup at the Covington location. My confirmation email listed my order as curbside pickup and directed me to call the store upon arrival. When I arrived at the store and called today, the woman who answered the phone sharply told me that they no longer offered curbside pickup and when I tried to respond, she hung up on me. I had planned, what I believed to be a curbside pickup order, around my toddler's nap time and she was asleep in the backseat when I called. So at that point, I sat in the parking lot for 45 minutes before I could wake up my child and go in to collect my order. Once inside, the staff seemed as if they were puzzled by an online order and questioned if it had been paid for online or if I needed to pay them in-store. I assured them the order was paid for when it was placed online and was ultimately able to receive my king cake. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I'm not sure if their online ordering system and email confirmations need to be updated to reflect the lack of curbside service or if their staff needs to be educated on their policies surrounding online orders, but regardless they should work on their customer service. I have never had a vendor hang up on me while discussing an order. It was completely out of line and I probably should have called back and canceled at that point, but I was not confident that anyone at this location would be able to figure out how to refund my order. I will not be ordering anything from Nonna Randazzo's in the future, either in-store or online. Save yourself the time and headache and order from a bakery that knows what they're doing and understands how to treat people. read more

This review is specifically about Nonna Randazzos king cakes. My boyfriend thought he was getting me the good (Manny) Randazzos king cakes when he saw the name Randazzos on king cakes at carnival mart. When he brought them home I thought "oh no" but decided to give them a try anyway because I figured how bad could they be? Spoiler: BAD. I open the box to what is the fugliest train-wreck of a king cake I've ever seen. It was the sloppiest worst looking king cake I've ever laid my eyes on. The look alone made me lose my appetite for it. Then I tasted it. It was super dry, the icing was on the bottom of the box not even on the cake, the fillings were all clumped together and tasted bad. 100% honesty: it was worse than a walmart king cake. At least Walmart's cardboard cake looks pretty. read more

I did not try anything at Nonna Radazzo's Italian bakery, I went there expecting a bakery, where thing are made in house, it surprised me that it did not have that bakery smell, in fact it smelled like burnt coffee. When I asked the lady working the counter if they made the king cakes she informed me that they did not the production factory did, so I inquired about the petit fours, which they also do not make. I asked if they bake anything and she informed me that they only bake the muffins and everything else came from the production factory, she claims is right down the street. This place lies and calls itself a bakery, no it's an after market retail shop. They are charging fresh bakery prices for Walmart packaged goods. They should state that nothing is made in house on their website so people do not travel expecting fresh baked goods. If I wanted what they are serving I could have saved gas and went to Walmart. read more

This place is clean, the desserts are delicious, and everything is surprisingly cheap! We ordered five donuts and two merengue cookies and they only cost eight dollars. It's not a donut shop, but it's donuts are the best. They also brake their own king cakes during Mardi Gras season which are scrumptious. Next time I visit this area I'll be back. read more

I ordered cookies and petit fours for a homecoming I was hosting in October. When I went to pick up my order I was told they forgot my petit four order and the cookies were broken and very poorly decorated. I was in shock. The manager says the best she could do was take down my name and give me a credit for half the amount of the order But she had to keep the credit slip behind the counter. I went back today she asked to use the credit the manager came out, was rude she abrasive and told me sorry but I only had 60 days to use the credit. When I told I thought that was bad die the business she yelled at me to "get out, I'm calling the police". It was the most awful experience. read more

Someone brought one of their traditional king cakes to work at the hospital on Fat Tuesday, so that really set the scene. One of the doctor's passed out beads, and Mardi Gras was in full effect! But back to the most important thing... THE KING CAKE. The flavor was perfect, the bread had stayed incredibly fresh, and honestly the proportion of icing was slightly better than what I've always maintained was my favorite king cake, Manny Randazzo's. I'm not a native New Orleanian so my taste in king cake could very well likely be off, but I really did not enjoy this king cake at all. I was surprised because quite a few people recommended it to me, but it just didn't do it for me. The cake was dry and the taste kind of reminded me of a panettone cake (which I don't particularly care for) and I like king cakes that have a more pronounced cinnamon flavor. As far as the frosting, was light, fluffy and not all that sweet and I prefer a thicker, sweeter frosting. I was also disappointed that there were no sprinkles! One of my favorite things about eating king cake is the crunch you get from the sprinkles when you first bite into it. Ugh. NONNA RANDAZZO'S DOESN'T FIX THEIR MISTAKES: I ordered a kingcake for my brother weeks ago to arrive on his birthday, February 4th. I got a notification from Randazzo's that it had been sent on the 3rd, then an email from Rhonda at 6 PM on the 4th telling me that it hadn't *actually* been shipped and she asked when I'd like it to be shipped. I responded that same evening, "please ship it tomorrow as it was supposed to be THE birthday cake for my brother on the 4th." I didn't get a response from them until 3 PM the next day when they informed me they'd be shipping it the next WEEK. Rhonda stated that I was "the only one out of thousands whose order was misplaced." I asked if the cake could be sent free of charge since I was the "only one" whose order was messed up and delayed by days and it was the birthday cake (not to mention it took them a full day to respond to me after their mistake!) Rhonda's response: "No. We have been prompt in our responses and are willing to give you 25% off the total purchase... We're not actually going to make any money off of your order." (And my brother didn't actually get a king cake for his birthday, but obviously birthdays are not important to a "family owned business.") I understand this is a weird, trying time for everyone living through this pandemic, but Randazzo's customer service was demoralizing and disgusting. So consider this your warning: I'm so disappointed that I trusted them to get a cake to my brother in time for his birthday. Don't let history repeat itself with your family. read more

I live in Seattle, WA post Katrina and have been a Randazzo's devotee for many years. My dad has shipped me cakes from Nonna's in years past that were delicious. This year, I excitedly opened our cake, a cream cheese pecan praline and am so disappointed. The cake is dry, the icing is overly sweetened and I agree with the other poster about an after taste. There is a small smear of cream cheese on the cake that is barely noticeable. This is definitely one of those scenarios where I'd walk into the store and return it if I lived nearby. I received an original notification that the printing label was created on 1/17 so assumed it took two days to get here. Rhonda at Nonna's ensured it was baked and shipped on the 18th and received here the next day. That means they just made a dry cake! She reminded me their recipe hasn't changed and it's award winning. Everyone makes a bad cake sometimes and I was happy to continue buying cakes from them with some acknowledgement. When she dismissed my feedback, and did not offer any amount for refund or store credit, I asked for a full refund. That is when she replied that they will refund my money when I ship it back to them! It's a petty and disappointing response. $70 down the drain and I will not order from them again. Last year, I tried Gambino's when I couldn't get a cake from Nonna's too close to Fat Tuesday. It was moist and flavorful. I recommend Gambino's if you want a king cake shipped to you. Nonna's stands by their award-winning recipe, but isn't interested in customer satisfaction or retention when given the feedback that this king cake is A BUST. read more

The King Cakes tastes great (It's Randazzos)...when you get to go to the bakery and pick them up in store. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience this time. God forbid you pay $60 to have one shipped to Los Angeles (since you've moved) so you can share with your friends. What I don't understand is why couldn't they have packaged it better. I've seen a friend post a photo of their shipped king cake from Manny Randazzo's and it arrived as if they bought it out of the store due to them taking PRIDE in their product and shipped it accordingly. I'm embarrassed to share this, and feel like I've been taken advantage of because I can't do anything about it. What I do know, is that I will never have one shipped from NONNA Randazzo's again. Sorry I did not get a picture of the actual cake, which was fine. The dough was good and not dry but the icing was just too thick and had a strange aftertaste. I did order the pecan praline which had a nice glaze but again the overall frosting was not that great. I attempted to order a King Cake online through the website. I had problems with the order so decided to wait until today to call directly to the store in Covington. An employee answered my call and I asked for someone that helped me before. She answered "very sarcastically" that the person didn't work there now and hadn't for a while!! I told her I just wanted to order a king cake to ship. She said she would get someone to help me & put me on hold. After holding for a while I hung up. I decided to call Randazzo's in Chalmette, which I believe is owned by the same people, and the young lady that answered was very polite and helped me place my order. I just had a Doberge cake for my birthday. While the taste was good. The quality of the cake left quite a bit to be desired. The chocolate fondant icing was so thick the cake mashed as it was cut. Additionally the chocolate fondant was applied to the bottom essentially gluing tue cake to the base. Needless to say this cake just cannot be served in nice slices as one would expect. The colored icing was surrounded by a watery syrup coming from the icing like its been stored for a while. Definitely not worth the money paid. read more

I just received my king cake that I paid $70 for and I am very disappointed. First off is should have purple, green and gold sugar not sprinkles with honey bun icing! I paid to have it shipped overnight so it would be fresh and it taste stale and when it arrived ... well I will let the pictures speak for themselves. I received my Nonna' "Cream Cheese" King Cake in Atlanta with the plastic bag mashed into the icing. The cake was dry and the cream cheese could not be found. I e-mailed them and sent pictures of the cake as they requested. Their response was that the correct cake was shipped and indeed it was the cream cheese one. They offered a full refund, if I would ship at least 75% of the cake back. Seriously?!?! Are they for real? Nonna Randazzo has been my go to bakery for as long as I have been on the Northshore. I called to order a cake for a birthday to be picked up on Saturday. When I gave the order to the girl on the phone she never asked me if I wanted anything on the cake. I told her it was for a birthday and gave her the information. Common sense tells you that if a name is being written on a cake you want it to be decorated. (Problem 1) When I went in to pick up the cake the person helping me could not remember the name and had to ask me 3 times before he found it because it was behind another box. When he finally found the cake and showed it to me the only decoration on it was the Happy Birthday written on it, no roses, piping, anything. I could have made my own cake but expected to receive the product I have been receiving for years from this bakery. When I questioned the server about it he gave me an attitude and I called him on it. (Problem 2) He shrugged his shoulders and said if I didn't want it I didn't have to take it. Given the amount of time I needed I had to take it. (Problem 3) I was on my way to the party never once thinking that I would have a problem with a cake from Nonna.
