Those who "Know me", they know 2 things. One, is I've been a Chef for many years. Two, is that I'm a big time "Pizza Snob". So, this place went "Viral" when they first opened. Talk about innovation, these guys harnessed a rotating bread oven, into a magic pizza making machine. And it was good. Real, real good! And then the dreaded "Staten Island" rumor mill started. Pizza is thin and delicious. Delicious sauce and cheese. Very friendly staff, BUT, there are no tables & the place is very small. Four uncomfortable stools with a tiny counter. No air conditioning. Full disclosure...We ordered a traditional cheese pizza for pickup and live roughly 10 minutes away. This pizza was truly outstanding for what it offers. The crust was the deciding factor for me...I haven't had a beautiful crust like that since New Haven, Connecticut. The sauce was on the sweet side and the cheese was fairly light. We came all the way from Chicago, took the Staten Island ferry to say sorry we are booked until the middle of August. Where do we begin .... Long over due 5 start review ... My brother Artie introduced us to Nonna's years ago when having all his kids birthday parties .... On the average my brother would order at least 8 to 10 pies for our family & friends to enjoy .... From the dough that makes an awesome crust to the quality of cheese & unbelievable sauces they make are all their different pies are just off the chain delicious ... Me & the wife had a party on the island & we were early so we had to go have a few slices to tie us over .... Their Philly slice & their Alfredo & spinach artichoke & their vodka slice & eggplant parm ....., Need I say more ... we love this place & dining in is way better then waiting on delivery... order one slice at a time & go take a look on their counter to see what pies just came out .... Luckily we met the owner Franny who came into the dining room to ask my wife & I if the room was warm enough ... it was a cold day ... Great pizza. Fantastic service. Owner Frankie is friendly and personable. 3 counter stool seats. Mostly takeout or delivery. Garlic knots looked great and other customer said they tasted same. We ate and shared three slices. 1. Jalapeño pepperoni and hot honey. Flavors complemented one another. 2. Eggplant also very good. Has tomato sauce ricotta and eggplant and Romano. Very very good. 3. Burrata pizza. Excellent. Got a Burrata pie to go too. 4. Stuffed eggplant pizza pie. Excellent. Nice crust of pizza shells sandwiching the eggplant ricotta mozzarella etc and they gave us a container of tomato sauce for dipping. Delicious. We will definitely be back and try some other types. Really like the burrata and stuffed eggplant pies. The owner was even eating his own pizza. That's how good it is. Can't wait to go back and try clam pizza and even the plain pies look great. This was already on my bucket list of places to try so when my friend suggested a pizza outing and mentioned Nonna's I said "yeah" So glad we tried this place. Its interesting where you drive by and might think it is closed due to its cage exterior, but if you take a step in you'll find the amazing different choices of pizza. Good NY Pizza. I ordered a couple different types of pie. The crust was a bit more firm and crunchy than I prefer. There was very little cheese on the specialty pies, which is a choice I don't prefer but is common amongst pizza shops. The proteins were well executed. So after our last day in NYC on our lustrous DC/NJ/NY trip, we knew nothing could make the day more complete than some original pizza. I didn't want us to be lured in, unfulfilled, by this or that promise of "world's best pizza", and there were so many choices!! As a student of history, I decided to read up on some of the origins of the craft--why not take it to these heights right? And in the spirit of 1) heading south toward our NJ hotel, 2) looking for a place that celebrated the history of the pie whether overtly or subconsciously, and 3) being extremely hungry and needing--no demanding--we get full, we landed in...Staten Island? Yes my friends, the journey began. We walked up to the window and ordered our huge Nonna to go. The plan was to eat that baby down by the ocean, and everything was going according to that plan... All we had to do was convince the wife that she liked pizza a lot and would be pumped. Fast-forward ahead two huge slices per person later, and we were all lying on our backs at the park wondering how we dreamed of being able to eat three slices each. Those were good dreams; they were Nonna dreams. We even got a non-negative pizza reaction from the wife--perhaps it was the food-coma talking, but we'll take it! Could it get better? Ordered a calzone asked for light ricotta paid $11 with topping was the size of my hand I call them because there is no mozzarella in it they tell me they dont make calzone with mozzarella in it ... very strange never seen that before the calzone wasnt even closed it was put together like a sandwich. How do you not know how to make a calzone and have the guts to charge that for something maybe 5 inches. Never will order there again. read more

Ordered here for the first time and asked for my order total before hanging up the phone. Upon the delivery man coming, asked him for the price and he says $2 more than what was told over the phone. I figured maybe there was an extra charge for delivery (?) so promptly called the store and they said the original price. The girl on the phone couldn't be bothered and the phone disconnected. I called back again and she offered for the guy to come back to give me back my money but at this point I was already turned off by the "disconnected" call. Do a better job of making sure your delivery drivers are giving accurate prices and you really should be giving them a receipt with the order that they are delivering. read more

Every time I drive by Nonna's, I am never sure if they are open because they have their outside cage down by the dining room closest to the train. However, I stopped by on a Monday and success, they were open! Nonna's has a wide variety of specialty slices. There were so many to choose from and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ordered the following : - white slice with roasted garlic - I thought this was going to be a heavier slice as white slices usually are but there wasn't too much ricotta where the crust got soggy. The roasted garlic added some texture and some crunch to the slice. - margarita slice - the pizza here is thin crust and the sauce was delicious. This is classic slice to go with if you're unsure. - vodka slice - this was a heavier slice than the others. A bit of flop to this slice. But the vodka sauce was made perfectly - it reminds me of the sauce my mother makes. If you find yourself in Staten Island - this is a solid pizza choice. read more

This place is waaaaaaay overpriced. I was driving by and decided to try it. This was my first and last time. I ordered a half pepperoni pie, knots, mozz stix and 20 oz soda. $46. WHAT??? My brother owns and pizzeria. His price wouldn't been around $33. The pie alone was $22.50. I could get the same pie elsewhere for $18-19. 6 garlic knots for $5 - again what? They only gave me 4, they were TINY and had way too much garlic and not much else for seasoning. The mozz stix were your run of the mill frozen mozzarella sticks. Nothing to rave about. I think they were $13.95. Some people may say well if the food is good then it's worth the price. It was just decent. The crust on the pie had good flavor but the sauce was overly sweet. And the pie was small. It was def not a standard size large pie. I would def never go back and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Village Maria is a block away.
