I'm still not over Ungaro Coal Fired Pizza Cafe. This place has completely won me over. The food is excellent across the board, and the service matches it. It has a casual vibe, but still feels like a proper restaurant, which makes it perfect for anything from a quick bite to a relaxed sit down meal. It's a small spot, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine in. I've tried their signature coal oven pizza, chicken parmigiana, penne vodka, and the flatbread. Everything was absolutely delicious. You can also order drinks, not just soda or juice, which adds to the overall experience. Street parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it. I was so caught up with enjoying the food that I barely took any photos, and that just says it all. I'll definitely be back and add more pictures next time. read more

Many cultures around the Mediterranean have different forms of chickpea fritters and/or chickpea-filled sandwiches. There's of course falafel to the east, garantita in Algeria, and panisse in France (or socca in a similar vein). Sicilian panelle is Italy's counterpart, and the version at Ungaro is an excellent example of it. The panelle comes served with a healthy serving of ricotta on a seeded bun. It has a relatively mild, filling flavor that lets you fully enjoy the chickpea fritters themselves. They also have a potato croquette sandwich on the menu - a distant cousin of the Vada pav I plan to try next time. The half vodka pizza we tried was good, with high-quality mozzarella and a decadent sauce. The pie itself had a nice chewiness to it - if I had any suggestions, perhaps next time they could go a bit easier on the quantity of the sauce. read more

The service was great and we were seated right away upon walk in. I didn't know that a reservation was recommended. So I would highly suggest making a reservation because the restaurant is small. The menu is so large so we decide to split appetizers because everything sounded delicious. We ordered the sweet and sour calamari (10/10) that was the best dish in my opinion. The sauce and the nuts went perfectly with the sauce. The risotto balls were very good too (9/10). I feel like the fried burrata was not worth the "hype" it was a pretty normal burrata BUT the bread that came with it was absolutely delicious when dipped in tue vodka sauce. This restaurant is extremely overpriced in my opinion. But the food and service was great. I would definitely come again and try other things on the menu since it is so extensive! read more

Wow wow wow..... this is a gem on the north shore that I was invited to for an inspiring event. As soon as you walk in you can feel the hometown welcoming vibe like you belong. They offer sangria which was good but the food was just so delicious. I wasn't even hungry but my friends decided to order so I figured I'd also order and I'm so glad I did. Everything tasted fresh and made with love. I got the artichoke with chicken on it, that was just the perfect crunch with a savory taste and my friends decided on the Alfredo (which let me tell you is usually not good at pizzerias) but it had this freshness to it I had to try another big bite from her. Very disappointed Ordered on web to pick up at 3pm , was 10 minutes earlier and order was ready . I live 2 minutes from the shop . Pizza was colddddd, saggy and no taste, my sausage hero also cold bread was mushy and shop forgot the sauce I ordered.? My conclusion, dont order on website because no one read what time you picking up ,I think pizza was made as soon as I ordered and that was an hour earlier ... I love their menu and we enjoyed our first few orders but the last two orders - not so much. 2 orders ago, the pizzas arrived looking a mess, like the toppings were thrown on, maybe they slid around during delivery. We ordered again a few days ago and everything but the salad was burnt black. Although that's crazy expensive - our motto is "you get what you pay for". This time it was highway robbery! The crust was too soft and mushy, the sauce was tasteless, the sausage wasn't spicy at all, which we asked for. The pepperoni was fine. What we ordered: Butternut Squash Soup ($10): this soup is a must if you come here. It is soo creamy!! And you have to get the prosciutto on top. Amazing! This is a small cozy place and you can see how hard the folks work here. My son raved about this place so we had to go. We got caesar salad and the dressing had a smoky flavor which was delicious. Next a side of eggplant rollatini and the sauce was slightly sweet, again great. And the pizzas were amazing thin crispy crust yet tender. i don't t know how they do it! Last night we confidently ordered from Ungaros again because our first experience was awesome. But this time the Pizza was dry, burnt & then not even crispy, it was just dry, tough & chewy. In the 2 orders of wings, we ordered, there were some pieces that were undercooked & had a strange taste. We threw a couple out & had to cook the rest thoroughly. Not one to leave a bad review, But I ordered a pizza at 1:04 PM for delivery from this restaurant, which is only 5 minutes away from where I live. After waiting for nearly an hour and a half, I called at 2:30 PM to check on the status. The girl on the phone told me there was a big delivery order ahead of mine, but that my pizza would be coming out next. Fair enough, I was patient. However, when I called back at 3:04 PM, she told me there was a mix-up and that my order was printed as a pickupinstead of a delivery. This was their mistake, and they were remaking my pizza. There was no apology for the delay, no offer of a discount, and still no sense of urgency to fix the situation. It's now over 2 HOURS since I placed my order, and I still don't have my pizza. Terrible customer service, no accountability, and honestly, I'm just frustrated. This is unacceptable, and I won't be ordering from here again. Was able to watch the whole giants game before receiving my pizza. This is by far the most ridiculous thing I've ever encountered. I wish this was a joke but it's not and unbelievable!!! (He called to verify my address before running circles around the wrong street) We ordered the Ungaro house insalata with lemon vinaigrette to feel somewhat healthy (recommend adding Parmesan); was delicious! For the main course, we ordered a half Bianca half vodka pie. Let me tell you, I could feel the love in this pie! The crust was one of the best I've had in a while! Perfect "undercarriage" as Dave portnoy would put it. The sauce, cheese and flavoring was so thoughtful and exceptional.
