If I moved anywhere within Texas, I would STILL drive here to get it done by any of the awesome women that work in this salon. So, I requested long Spring twists, or small passion twists and overall my hair looks nice. The service took 6 hours. There was one lady that worked in the front of my hair by herself and one lady did the back of my hair by herself. I understand that the style took a long time because of the length and size I requested, plus they were a bit understaffed. I have a few "gripes." When I drove away one of the twists in the front slipped out. I could have turned the car around but after sitting for 6 hours, I was over it. I reattached it myself. Also, two days later, some of my natural hair is sticking out of the twists in the back and I've been working my hair back into them when I see it. Additionally my hair is parted into a small grid in the front and I have some pretty large parts in the back. Don't get me wrong, I get it, but in think my hair would look weird if I tried to put it in a half up half down style. Overall, the hair doesn't look bad I'm just not sure how long it's going to last. If you're in a pinch and need braids, maybe risk it. I might suck it up and drive to Houston next time. read more

I recently paid nearly $300 for braids at this salon after discussing several protective style options with the staff, including braids, kinky twists, and others. I have very soft, fine-textured hair and shorter hair length, which was clearly visible during my consultation and in the photos attached, so I relied heavily on their professional guidance regarding what style would work best for my hair type, hair length, and long-term goals. The braider who worked on me was the woman seated in the very first chair on the left when entering the braiding area. She is a shorter, heavyset woman with a limp. I mention this simply so other customers know which stylist performed my service. Before the service began, I specifically asked multiple times whether this style would realistically work well for my hair type and length and continue looking good over time because I genuinely did not know what to expect. I trusted the salon's expertise when I was reassured that this style would achieve the long-lasting result I was looking for. I did not leave the salon initially feeling dissatisfied. However, the next day I noticed one braid in the front that already appeared frayed and frizzy. Once I saw that, I started looking more closely throughout the rest of the style and began noticing additional areas with frizzing, fraying, hair sticking out, and sections that already looked worn and untidy in less than 24 hours. To be clear, the issue was not that the braids were loose. In fact, they were extremely tight. That is part of why the amount of frizzing and fraying the very next day was so concerning to me. When I returned to the salon the following day, I pointed out numerous braids that I felt needed to be corrected. While they did attempt to address my concerns, the solution honestly felt more like a quick band-aid fix than a true resolution. The stylist already had another customer in her chair, and it was very clear the goal was simply to smooth over a few visible areas quickly rather than properly correcting the overall quality concerns I was expressing. What frustrated me most was that each time I pointed out additional problem areas, I was repeatedly told that my hair type and length were the issue. However, if my hair type or length were truly not suitable for achieving a neat, long-lasting result with this style, that should have been communicated honestly before the service was performed -- not after I had already paid nearly $300 and problems were already appearing within a day. The biggest reason I'm writing this review is because I want people to understand how unhappy I ultimately became with the final result. This was not someone looking for a discount or refund while continuing to wear the style. I was so disappointed after seeing the condition of the braids that I completely removed the hair myself almost immediately afterward. One of the salon assistants even helped me remove it because they could clearly see how upset and dissatisfied I was. I think they were genuinely shocked that I was willing to take out a style I had just spent nearly $300 on, but that alone should show the level of disappointment I felt with the overall outcome. I normally try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but after our second disappointing experience at this salon, I felt it was important to leave a review. My daughter had an appointment at 11:00 a.m. and did not leave until almost 6:00 p.m.....nearly seven hours for one appointment (website said 4 hours for Fulani). What made it more frustrating was watching several clients who arrived after her get finished and leave before she did. By the end of the appointment, my daughter was overwhelmed and left practically in tears. I also had concerns about the pricing and lack of transparency. I paid a $30 deposit beforehand, we supplied all of her hair ourselves, and she was still charged $230. None of the unused hair was initially returned to us either, even though my daughter asked for it. Looking at my daughter's style, there's simply no way all the hair we supplied was use. To be fair, the owner eventually did call me back and offered to refund $10 for us supplying our own hair. She also told me I could come back and pick up the remaining hair. However, when I returned to the salon, I was met with the same rude attitudes that made the overall experience uncomfortable in the first place. The staff barely acknowledged me, laughed when I repeated why I was there and I even offered to grab the hair myself from behind the counter because I could clearly see it sitting there. Communication throughout this process was frustrating. I tried calling both salon numbers with no answer and also reached out through Instagram and TikTok messages before finally hearing back. Where do I start? It most definitely won't be at 4 PM. My appointment was 4 PM. When I got there at 3:45, someone was still getting their locs done and not halfway finished. Y'all are not serious about appointments, please just do walk-ins. I saw the "cash only " sign and had to get cash from the gas station. Why no one told me that I needed cash while booking? I got my hair "washed". My hair was not washed well. The stylist washed my hair maybe 1 and a half times. The second time felt like nothing. There was barely any shampoo in the shampoo container. The water was bouncing from hot and cold, idk if it was on purpose or a plumbing issue! After that wash, I was under the dryer for awhile while she finished the other person's locs. When I got away from under the dryer to start my hair, she was huffing and puffing while pulling it apart. If you didn't have me under the dryer so long prior to my retwist, my hair wouldn't have merged like that ! Some of my locs were twisted too tight because they had a corskrew look. When I was finally under the dryer, the stylist forgot I was there. No one checked on me to see how my drying process was going! When my hair was done another stylist told me to go to the front. I sat there for a while before my stylist even noticed. She told me that I can pay and leave. She didn't asked if I liked my hair and she didn't check to see was everything okay! I informed her that my ends were still wet! They put me under the dryer again. When the dryer cut off , I paid and left. I was over it. They could've used a blow dryer for my ends. The lady asked did it dry fully and I told her no, I won't worry about it anymore. She smiled and said it'll air dry. Girl please be for real.! It's too cold outside to have wet hair. When I got home I found a rusty clip left in my hair. My hair looks good but the customer service is horrible. I was seen there last month I made my appt online and paid my deposit and it was pretty easy process. I show up on time and can see I will be sitting for awhile. Since I also notice they haven't prepped my hair I decide to go for Fulani instead of boho braids. One hour later I get in a chair and she starts. The website states 3.5 hours for either type of braids; the braiding alone took 4.5 hours, my hair is a little passed my shoulder and it is thick but not like whoa! thick. She finally finishes at 9:39 pm, my appt was at 4:00 pm by the way. I go to pay and braider says we only take cash, well that would've been nice if someone told me ahead of time or even a sign in the shop. Customer service was bare minimum. I booked an appointment, once I got there they tried to charge me twice the amount as listed online. Lady who did my hair (don't know her name she never told me) was on the phone the entire time laughing loud. I never leave reviews and hate to be that person, buttttt this place was just nottttt it!! Now if you don't care about the service and just care to have your hair done by all means! My micro locs came out neat and I saw others getting braids and they do a good job. But for the prices they want to charge I expect some professionalism and a nice clean atmosphere.! Been here twice now & have had positive experiences. Calling & getting an appointment has been very easy. They're open Monday through Saturday. I've only gotten box braids and have been highly satisfied with their work. The first time I came, I had hair put in & used the products they regularly use. My hair is bone straight and layered, I really loved that they lasted more than a weekend in the exact same condition that they were originally in. That said, styles will last all varying on the care you put in. Second time around I opted not to use jam and brought in my own gel and hairspray. My haircut doesn't allow for braids to look perfect because they end up looking ratty and tattered due to the heavy layering & I do not want to go through the work of taking out all the product off in the next couple of days. I was referred by a lady we met in a S. Austin Target. My daughter is getting ready to go to camp and she wanted specific braids and it feels like everywhere to get braids you have to go north. When we made it inside there were 2 braiders currently taking care of people and they asked if we had an appointment. While we sat and waited 2 braiders came in and asked us what my daughter was getting and then got started shortly before 9A. Prior to this appointment I was told to ensure that my daughter's hair was washed and blow-dried and I am assuming that was why we weren't there long. The 2 braiders worked on opposite ends of her head. Whenever another braider came into the salon, they made sure to say hello and good morning to everyone. This place is TERRIBLE! DO NOT BOOK SERVICES HERE!! This is my third time at this salon - AND LAST! (The first time, one half of my head was blonde the other half was auburn. Second time, they gave me boneless braids. I have a head full of hair and she gave me 13 braids) I arrived at 1030a having a 1045a appointment already having paid the $30 deposit online. Relevant later in the story When I arrive, I was told to walk to the back of the salon for a seat. I chose from their menu (medium box braids bra strap length) and told one lady what I wanted. I didn't sit in her chair until 1145a. No problem. The first lady on my head was moving slow. Second lady came over then left to attend to other business. Meanwhile, the same lady was still working on me. Fine. Let me mention, I had a somewhere to be at 4. A second person didn't come over to help again until 5pm. At this point, I had been there for SIX HOURS! FINALLY when the second lady came back I told her please make the braids bigger I really need to go. She starts to move a little faster. I then tell her to just dip the braids and skip the mousse. She does the mousse anyway and blowdries it. I ask if we are done, and head to the counter to pay. At the counter, the women was asking for $260. I said is that without my deposit? She said Oh, $230. So now you were trying to get me for an extra $30? I did not leave until shortly before 630p.When I finally arrived home I took a look at the work. My parts look like a zipper design. NOBODY asked for that nor was it ever discussed. It looks ridiculous! I was there for 7 HOURS - I was 2 hours late to my event! It was the absolute WORST experience!! The only reason I ever go to this place is because I cant get in with my girl. Made an appointment with Nonye Hair Braiding for butterfly locs. Once I made my appointment I received two pictures of images of the type of butterfly locs they offer. The day before my appointment I received a text to confirm my appointment which I did. I arrived Saturday at 7:30 am for my appointment and the lady started on my hair immediately. She took her time and did a wonderful job! I was done and out the door by 11:30 am. I came in for a touch up on my knotless braids which i had an appointment for. I get there and the lady is immediately rude and seems as if doing her job is an inconvenience. Then I was told to start taking out my braids for the touchup. NEVER anywhere I have gone for a touchup have I been the one to take out the braids . That's literally part of the service i'm paying to get done. I could have done that at home and saved a couple hours of my 6 hour appointment. YUP 6 hour appointment for a touchup. 4 of those hours were waiting around while others had 2 people working on their hair and the lady who would work on mine was constantly stopping to chat on the phone. To put into perspective someone came in and got a whole set of medium knotless braids before I was done for a touchup. SCAMMERS. $300. Only half my head is braided. The braids came out 2 weeks after getting them done. WHILE I WAS ON VACATION. When I called and asked them to fix it, they told me it would be 80 to 100 dollars. NO MA'AM. They try to convince you that your hair is too short, but NO. My hair ranges from half an inch to 6 inches. Even the braids in the front came out. I expected some in the back to be loose because my hair got a little wet while swimming, but not the ones on top where my hair is the longest and never got wet. Not only are they terrible braiders, they are rude. They kept asking me why I wanted them so long. Saying things like, " Wow. This is really long hair. Why you want it so long?" and " How old are you wanting this long hair?" What the...? They also ridiculed my head being shaved on the sides. Literally said, " Why would you do that to your head?" All "those shops" are like that, let it go... This is what my sister told me when I told her my experience getting my hair braided at Nonye's yesterday. As an African woman... I can't accept that. I expect good customer service and great results. Here is what happened yesterday at Nonye's Hair Braiding. You decide for yourself. My appointment was at 12pm. I was called and asked to come early. I agreed. While I was on my way I was called to come at 1pm instead. They said they had made an error. I informed them that I was already in an Uber and they said "ok, we'll see what we can do." Nothing was done for me. I waited 2 hours before they started braiding my hair (at 1:45pm). Also, we had agreed upon a style that costs $180. They told me they had to alter the style (due to the length of my hair), which was fine, except that in the end they told me that the style would cost $240, which was exorbitant considering the style wasn't that different. (See photos of what was expected and what I got.) I asked if they could give me a discount to compensate me for waiting for 2 hours. They refused. I also asked them, the day before, if I could pay by card, because I wouldn't be able to go to the bank to get cash before coming. They agreed. But when my hair was done at 9:30pm they said I couldn't use my card and they wanted me to go across the street in the dark to get $240 from an ATM at a gas station and bring it back to them. I said I wasn't comfortable. So one of the stylists said to wait and she would come with me. This was taking way too long so I left and went to the ATM by myself, but the ATM wouldn't expense such a large amount. I came back and suggested they let me go home and send me a pay pal request or anything they want to do and I will pay them because it's very late and this isn't my fault. They refused and made me stay at the store until they figured out someone's Venmo account so I could pay via Venmo. I paid the $240 and left. Aside from all of this they didn't want to give me the style that I wanted or to use the hair that I brought for them to install, which caused a lot of other problems with my hairstyle. When I asked them why didn't they just use the hair I brought, they said it's easier FOR THEM to use the type of hair they have in the store. Regardless of the fact that the type of hair they had wouldn't give me the look I wanted. I made them adjust it as best as I could, which they did. Then they suggested that because they used their hair they would take one pack of my hair for every pack of their hair that they used and give me a discount of $10. This doesn't make any sense because I brought packs of 80inch hair and their hair was only 48 inches. Also, each pack of hair I brought cost me at least $6. So this wouldn't be a any kind of discount, instead I would lose money. I refused. They also insisted on opening one of my packs of hair and cutting it to "show me" that the hair I brought wouldn't produce the desired result. I asked them please do not open the hair. They did it anyway. I asked them please do not cut the hair. They did it anyway. And in the end they actually proved that the hair I brought WOULD have given me the desired result. They proceeded to adjust the hair they insisted on using, but they complained a lot. I realize that anyone would wonder.... why did you even pay?! But I honestly didn't know what to do. It was me and 3 of the stylists standing in the shop at 9:30pm. Unfortunately, I also couldn't get up and walk out with my hair half done. And they know this. All I wanted was for them to show some kind of customer service. Offer me a discount or a free style for the next time. Or even let me pay the $180 we agreed upon. At this point I just want a refund. Overall pretty happy with my braids. There were two stylist that worked on my hair the first one (Gloria) I think her name was, was fast & had light hands. The second lady that joined had heavy hands and was a little slower and I felt like she wasn't as gentle with my hair & she unfortunately ended up finishing my hair. My bf did point out that they didn't braid down a good chunk of my braids to the end...Overall, it took 3 hrs & 45 mins for knotless box braids which I'm happy about. They checked in a few times to make sure I was happy about the style/size which I appreciate. It's been awhile since I've gotten braids and overall this was a good experience. If I'm ever in town and want braids again I'll probably come back. They were able to schedule be within the week. Very difficult to find nowadays. Only because I have to rate..I made an an appointment the stylist told me to be there at 4:30..I asked if I needed to take my hair..she replied she would do it..got to the shop told them I had a 4:30 appointment with Maggie..at that time should've been told she wasn't there but was told to have a seat, wait 30 mins then was asked to assist in taking my hair down..I ended up taking it all down by myself..then waited another hour in a half and for someone to start my hair. I asked again where is the person I made the appointment with and they said oh someone else is going to do it come have a seat. It took what was suppose to be maybe 2 hrs for a touchup ended up taking 5 hrs, then have the nerve to charge almost the price I paid to get it done! read more

Very disappointed with this place. Was recommended to come here for my daughter to get box braids. On the phone they quoted $180 for a full head of box braids. My daughter's sides and back are shaved. She got small-medium thickness of braids, they were too short and cost us $150 (she was leaving town for the summer the next day). They guy was quick-I'll give them props for speed. But 2 days later, several braids fell out. 2 weeks later more than half. I saw her on FaceTime yesterday, which was pushing 3 wks for the braids and told her to just take them out. For the amount of hair my daughter had, $75 max should have been charged. Ive been getting my hair done here for sometime even though I no longer live in Austin area. The stylists can be very rude/unprofessional but I usually blow it off b/c they do great work. This last time I asked for passion twists and got kinky twists. When they finished, their 'excuse(s)' were that my hair was too thick; the twisting hair wasn't the one they use; i have a lot of hair. If they felt there would be any problem completing the style this should've been discussed before wasting 4+ hrs doing something I didn't like/ask for. When I asked for Ms. Nonye's number, the stylist gave me another stylist's number. The ladies tried to "convince" me I liked my hair. If I say I want to the manager/owner, take me seriously. At any of my other visits, the stylists were either late, leaving in the middle of doing my hair or both. I don't see the point of making an appointment. I feel that I have endured enough w/their unprofessionalism. I will not be returning! read more

I love love Nonye.... everytime I go I walk out with my hair just as beautiful as I imagined it to be. This last time Adia did my Havana Twist amazing... But I really want you all to know the level of service they provide. My 12 son goes to Glory to get his locks twist. The other week she provided him with a service she normally don't do but she did it for him. When we got in car he absolutely loved his hair but you all it's what he said to me, "mom Glory really care for me". My heart just melted it! Too many times we go spend our money in establishments that make us feel like crap yes they provided a service even what we wanted but how did they make us feel. I know how my young man felt because that's how I felt also. A big thanks to Glory ,Adia and all the ladies. The ladies are very talented and have been there for years. I have been to Nonye's three times. The first time was to get box braids The second time was to have what was done the first time FIXED and the third time was an unrelated visit some years later to get braids again. During my first visit, two braiders worked on my hair; one in the front and one in the back. The lady who did the back was older, nice and did a great job. The lady who did the front was younger, loud (constantly talking to other braiders in French), yanking my hair AND head and braiding my hair TOO TIGHT. As she braided, the extension hair would tangle and she would just yank her fingers down the length of it, sharply, to pull it apart. I asked her if she could please be gentle and not yank my head like that. She persisted. In addition, I told her she was braiding too tight. She would ease up momentarily, then continue braiding tight - for EACH braid, I literally had to say to her "that one's too tight!" When I left, I could barely drive because the braids in front were laying unnaturally and ridiculously to the front of my face and I couldn't see. But, they were too tight to pull back so I kind of had to twist the bottom of the braids around each other and back. Sitting in my car, I sent a text to my daughter telling her about the experience and how the lady kept braiding my hair too tight. When I got home, the tightness seemed to set in more and they just looked ridiculous in front. I called the shop immediately and talked to Nonye to tell her that I was taking the tight braids in front out and would need them redone. She said she had received my text and understood and that was fine, can I come back at such and such a time (turns out I had sent that text to her by mistake that I thought I sent to my daughter). I went back to the shop the next day, they sat me down and here comes this same loud, rude girl yanking on my hair. I waved to someone who seemed to be directing the employees and told her that I did not want this woman working on my hair. She loudly says "You do not want me to do your hair???!!!" Nooooo, I don't. I pointed to the kind, gentler lady I remembered and said can she please finish the front. The other lady left in a huff and went to yank on someone else's hair. Then she was walking to get hair (or to antagonize me), from the front of the salon to the back and said loudly, looking at me "I DO NOT BRAID TIGHT! "NO ONE SAYS I BRAID TIGHT!" I said "Well, honey, that's not what MY BRAIN says!" Several of her co-workers bust out laughing. If she wanted to put on a performance, then I was going to send her exiting stage left in her final appearance!!! She finally shut her damn mouth and silently became some other person's problem and the lovely older woman finished my braids WITH a side part so they were'nt all askew in my damn face. I have to add that also when I first arrived on the previous day, my hair was clean and stretched but they insisted on blowing it out to stretch it more even though I don't think that was necessary. But the lady who attempted that was ripping through my HEALTHY, 10-inch hair like she was trying to rake weeds off the grass. I had to take the Revlon blower and do it myself because they just don't care!!! The second time I went was about three years later. I stopped by first to have them look at my hair to make sure it was long enough to braid because, again, I didn't want tight braids and I had recently cut my hair. I wanted knotless braids and they assured me my hair was long enough so I made an appointment for the next day. When I got there for my appointment, the lady put in one braid and asked me if it was okay. I told her I was supposed to get knotless and she said my hair was too short (which it wasn't, it was almost five inches) but I think regular box braids were easier and it was late so...also, despite paying for waist legnth, the actually braids stopped just past my shoulders and they just kind of dipped the loose hair to make it appear as if the the braids were longer in the back but they were not actually braided all the way down to my waist. Also, I wanted a side part and the lady said that I could rearrange the braids when they are done (omg...why can't they just do what you ask...) I said you really can't move the braids around alot when they are first done, then the other lady working on my hair explained to her that I wanted an actual line part on the side. They bickered in French for a minute then she asked me where I wanted it. The pros of this place are 1). They can schedule you fairly quickly, 2). They do neat work, 3). Nonye is very nice and so is the lady who usually is at the front desk, 4) They have a lovely "menu" for you to look at with actual braid pictures and actual, real braids attached to it for you to see the size of the braid, 5) They provide the hair, 6). They are quick - a full- head of box braids takes about three hours (with two people, of course). read more

I came in @ 0900 last Saturday Morning ( 8th) and the owner was awesome and braided my hair perfectly due to I had very little hair in the front and she delivered and made it happen KUDOS for her!!. My Issue is another showed me some hair and I picked out the one i like but no one had made a suggestions or given me an option at this point. As the employee completed Crocheting my hair, I heard the front of my head a crunching sound ( My hair had break and the front part of my hair that was done had lifted) due to the policy, I advised then that I was not satisfied with the hair so she hurried up and got the business card with a bar code on it and I made a quick payment for 130.00 that my son gave me for Mother's day and I added additionally 50.00 in case w/ receipt. I contact the own in 2 days (all call times/notes on my phone for support) the owner was more concern of pointing fingers at me than to assist or satisfy me. We had been going back in forth since Monday. I request a refund for the hair and she declined. for a 180.00 dollars I will not let this slide, I will give the Owner 24 hours for a response and I will submit a claim to the BBB and file a suite against her company. read more
