I have to be honest here. The captain of the ship was a cold fish; I feel he is burnt out on his job. He was very late in picking all of us up (over an hour) and we all were not sure that we were in the correct pick up place. He could have called us (we tried calling him several times but he did not pick up); and so it started off the day in an anxious way. I had asked him prior if he was going to have any diet drinks on board; (they advertised that they'd have some sodas and drinks on board). He said he'd have some drinks on board. There were only three of us and he only had warm beer in a dirty cooler with no ice. It was obvious that the beers had been in this dirty cooler for some time. After catching our fish, he only had a smelly old rag for us to wipe our hands on and that smelled way worse than the fish. The bathroom on board did not have soap. He was easy on the eyes, but a cold fish himself. There were three paying people paying on board (one woman and two men). It was a quiet morning, but everytime the woman spoke the captain interrupted her even though not much was said during the trip. He even made fun of women in general. Very little eye contact. He was more interested in talking to the one good looking guy. The three paying patrons got along great and we became fast friends, but he squelched the enthusiasm of the woman (me). On the good side, it was a beautiful Tahoe day. We did catch fish our limit. read more

Captain Andrew is a great fisherman and he also has the biggest charter boat on the south side of the lake - plenty of room for all of your friends and a few cases of beer. We caught 4 Mackinaw trout before noon and had fun doing it! We will definitely be going again. read more

Growing up in Vermont I've done my share of fishing for lake trout. When booking a trip I had expectations like every fisherman that we might catch one or two and that would be a good day for me, but it ended up being a different story. As soon as we got to the fishing grounds my wife instantly caught a fish and in a hour and half three of us had our limits. I have gone on other small charters and can say this is the best I've been on. Capt. Andrew will put you on the fish and keep you entertained with his stories. Wonderful experience! Will definitely fish again with these guys when back in the area! Andrew and Mike were both super accommodating, especially after having to reschedule due to high winds and unfavorable weather conditions. Mike was our captain and was amazing to fish with! Not only was he a great guy and super easy to get along with, but he helped out in every aspect-from baiting our hooks, bc it was so cold he didn't want us freezing, and teaching us (really me) how to fish, to gutting the fish and recommending an absolutely wonderful pub that would cook our fish three ways right after catching! I've fished Canada to the Chesapeake Bay to 8-day long range tuna trips out of San Diego. This ranks at the top of my list. Captain Mike is a great guy, extremely knowledgeable about the lake and the fish, and runs a great boat. It was me, my son-in-law, and my 7 year-old grandson Nico. Nico caught more fish than anyone; we got our limit, including a 20-pound, 31 inch Mackinaw. I don't think we could have had a better trip. If you were in the same boat as I was (no pun intended) and you had to choose between other Charters in Tahoe and Nor Cal charters, definitely choose the latter. Nor cal charters has no upfront charges, and they give the best experience. Also, rather than squishing you all on a tiny boat, Nor cal charters has a limit to the amount of people on the boat, which gave us a lot of room to fish, have fun, interact, and learn from the Fish Whisperer himself (Andrew). These guys are great! We booked a charter with them for our annual fishing trip to the sierras and caught a ton of fish. We were treated professionally and shown a great time, the boat and equipment were very clean and they had all our gear ready including snacks and beers. First off I cant believe I am the first one to review this charter. A big shout out to Capt. Andrew for breaking me and my buddy Isaac out of a horrible fishing streak of not catching a single thing. (not even a bite!) We took a last minute trip to Tahoe with some friends. I got the idea of getting a charter since I have never fished in Lake Tahoe before. We searched probably every different charter in the area. There were a few that seemed pretty good, but Nor-Cal Charter stood out. We talked to Capt. Andrew. He is a super chill guy and knows what he is talking about. The 5 hours we spent on the boat seemed like 2. We had such a great time. I am an avid fisherman and have been fishing my whole life from fly to lakes from ocean piers to the surf but fishing with Nor-Cal charter was one of the most fun times I have had in awhile fishing. I'm sure that every time you go your not going to catch something, fishing isn't a guarantee. If you want to have a good time, hang out with some cool knowledgeable fisherman, and have the highest possibility of catching something then choose Nor-Cal Charters. read more

Charter cost $480 ($120 each for 4 people) plus $60 each for a fishing license ($15 each for 4 people) and did not catch ANY fish with the exception of one small kokanee salmon the size of a minnow, weighing about one pound (not kidding), all while sitting back and watching the other charters on the lake catch fish after fish after fish after fish (charter was 5 1/2 hours long). Most expensive fish we have ever eaten, $540 in total cost for one one-pound fish. read more

I came to Lake Tahoe and was excited to go on a fishing charter since it had been a while since the last time I had fished. I'm staying at David Walley's Hot Springs Resort and was recommended to try going through Nor-Cal Charters and seemed appealing with a little discount and competitive pricing. It showed an online booking for Thursday, which I had called about originally Sunday then once a day since then now that it's Tuesday. After calling on three different occasions with no answer and leaving two messages with no call back I'm very disappointed I didn't even get a chance to try it out. At this point I might not even get to go at all through another charter because I waited too long and everything might be booked waiting on a call back... Nor-Cal Charters should really stay on top of calling customers back even if it's the busy season. I recommend trying to book it online because booking over the phone seems like too much trouble for this business. read more

Fishing was our top priority while in Tahoe. I did my research before arrival and was handed a flyer by our concierge for Nor-Cal Charters. I checked reviews and off we went. Captain Andrew is incredibly knowledgeable about the lake and where to find the fish. The boat was perfect, not too big and not too small, with a covered area to hide from any inclement weather. The boat was very clean and refreshments were provided for the boat, the Kit Kats are his :-). I only wish we'd have booked for the entire day...next time! I want to put in a good word for Andrew one of the captains for NorCal Charter in South Lake Tahoe. Andrew was very professional and personable as my husband and I enjoyed our one day fishing excursion on beautiful Lake Tahoe with Andrew and another couple. Andrew went out of his way to accommodate us fishing on a different day then originally scheduled with our Groupon deal because the original day turned out to be a rainy day with some lighting and since Friday Oct. 2nd was going to be a beautiful day Andrew arranged for us to go out on Friday since that was our last day in Tahoe. Andrew has a great personality and very friendly as well as knowing how to captain the fishing charter. Between my husband and I we caught 4 12 to 14 inch lake trout. Andrew took us out to Emerald Bay which was beautiful and we felt like we were able to enjoy the fishing trip as well as the boat ride to Emerald Bay and back to the Cave Rock boat ramp on the Nevada side.
