It is so helpful to have someone like Bfree, who has a ton of skill and experience, that can show you that next step. BFree is an amazing teacher. He is encouraging, enriching, and enhancing. As the session went on I developed more and more confidence and entered into that place were I was Savoring my grinds and feeling that flow when creating a line instead of being in the place where I'm nervous and worried that I might fall, I realized I forgot to really enjoy my experience. I love rollerblading, and Bfree showed me how to love it more. In one session the way I approach and land tricks, and the way I think about rollerblading at all has completely transformed. I'm definitely going to be a longtime student of Bfree. If you are looking to enjoy rollerblading more and also progress in your skill level, or want to develop more confidence, courage, and clarity in your rollerblading, BFree is your man. I also want to comment on the guy's character. One of the main reasons I signed up for a private lesson with Bfree was because I liked what he was doing in his community and for the rollerblading community as a whole. In BFree Blading Academy First Friday in Oakland video I saw, you could really see a genuine kindness in the guy. He is exactly like that in person. It makes me really happy knowing that the money I spend on private lessons with Bfree is going towards supporting a family man, towards benefiting the Oakland community, and towards benefiting the Rollerblading community as a whole and putting wheels under more people's feet. It's a huge accelerator honestly. After our session I honestly felt like a walked away 100 times better. On flat, on vert, on coping, on ledges, on rails... I signed my daughter up for a class, and after she attended one session (and after getting her excited about climbing), they emailed me to say they messed up, and the class was full. So they cancelled her enrollment and gave me a partial refund. Totally unacceptable! My daughter was so disappointed. After that experience, we joined another climbing gym and asked Oaktown Boulders to take us off their email list. They have literally emailed me half a dozen times, promoting new classes and letting me know about openings. EVERY SINGLE TIME, I ask them to remove me from their email list! No response. Also, unacceptable! Get your sh*t together, Oaktown Boulders!

I've even hit ground balls to my team in here. But the real value is in the private lessons. But if you are a competitive softball or baseball player who wants to IMPROVE your game, then this is THE PLACE. It has tunnels (not cages) set up for ADVANCED hitting -- a super high tech pitching machine that can throw 40 - 90 mph softball or baseball pitches, curves, sliders, and fastballs. It has a remote, so if you are in there with your coach, you can stop the machine and work on your technique. And if hitting isn't all that you need to work on, there is a portable pitching mound to get you out of your slump. Ok...and now for those who are just starting their softball/baseball careers, there is an entire section for little sluggers. This area has tees, a pitching machine that spits out whiffle balls the size of golf balls. YOU HAVE GOT TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT -- THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT ANYWHERE IN THE BAY AREA!!!!

His recommended model is for the student to come to group lessons 1 x per week, and then pick one additional time per week for a 1:1 shorter lesson. Harold, the owner and head coach, is excellent in both classes and individual lessons. I think he's particularly good for beginners because he is endlessly patient and genuinely interested in each person. Though come to think of it that lends itself to coaching advanced fencers, too! He's a deeply intellectual fencer and his classes are as likely to start with a history lesson as lunging exercises. His care of the club and its fencers is thorough and thoughtful. As for the space... wow. This is what a fencing club should look like: dark wood paneled walls, hard wood floors, a cream-colored domed ceiling, and comfortable built-in padded benches lining the walls. There are men's and women's restrooms and changing rooms and a lobby with a hand-made chess table. And the fencers are a good bunch. They range from beginner to competitive and tend toward good humor and kindness. During open floor hours there's generally a two-up-then-down rule, so each fencer directs a bout, fences two bouts, then the rotates out. Mondays and Wednesdays are the big open floor nights. If you fence, do yourself a favor and check it out. If you don't fence, do yourself an even bigger favor and learn here.

They didn't know anyone and being new I didn't know anything about this camp or anything else. It was affordable as far as these things go. The kids had an incredible experience. Coach Ben is dedicated and his energy and commitment to the kids' experience shines through. He staffs the program with teens and alums of the program and they're all very mature and responsible and it sets a great example for the younger kids. At the end Coach Ben gave out baseball cards which kicked off my kids' interest in collecting. It was unexpected and sweet. PLUS they really improved their skills and came home exhausted. Win!! Thanks Coach Ben and team. Can't wait to be back this summer!
