Located on the old Alameda navel base. Easy booking online, other times were sold out but looked like they will take a few walk ins. Inside a Hangar/ warehouse so somewhat indoor skating rink area. Dark and scary driving through the base at night as my girls were saying they were scared and we were lost! Lol luckily I've been to area for car show during the day so was somewhat familiar. I Followed my GPS and took me directly there. Small ice rink, a bit cramped when skating. The ice was ok, some rough patches along the rink. My girls were asking why it felt a bit uneven while skating which they said they did not like due to falling more easily. I did not see them use the zimboni thing in between sessions but I might of missed it. Also we were last skate session for the night. Small seating area for snacks & hot coffee with various lunch trucks. Bathrooms located inside past the pinball area or port a potty's outside by parking lot. -Make sure you fill out waiver for each person as I had to step out and fill out again for kids. -$8 for the rental of skating aids. It was nice to have the little ice rink in Alameda for the last 10 years for the ice skaters and myself to have such a wonderful winter holiday season ice skating. The last time the Little Ice Rink was here in Alameda at the former Alameda Naval Air Station was at 1951 Monarch Street in Alameda in 2021. Cool family-friendly ice rink in Alameda for the winter. Reservations are needed ahead of time, and this place can sometimes get packed. They really weren't playing about this being a little ice rink, because it's not that big at all. Skate rentals and little animals are available for those who need some additional assistance on the ice (recommend getting the seal if you have multiple kids, because one child can stand and push, and another can sit for the ride. Helmets are also available for kids and adults who may need them (they also Lysol and disinfect them well, for those of you like me concerned with lice). As I mentioned above, the rink is small, so you may get dizzy going around a couple times fast. It also can get crowded, which sucks for little ones who are just learning because everyone is running into each other. Definitely recommend going on a weekday or possibly mid-afternoon to avoid crowds. For those who don't care to skate, there's some pinball machines to check out, and always people watching to do. There's one food truck out front and plenty of seating, for those who worked up an appetite from all that skating. Overall great fun for the kids and the entire family. I do think it's expensive for what you get, especially if going in a group (we paid $65 for 1 adult and 2 kids, plus another $8 per rental of animal skate assists). Tip - fill out the waiver before arriving to save time (and waivers are required for everyone, regardless of whether you are skating). read more

This was so so so much fun! I understand everyone saying it is small, but come on, it's a temporary ice rink that gets moved to a new location all the time! Think the ice rink in Union Square during the holidays. This is equivalent. That said, it's awesome. And what a LOVELY atmosphere! We went in with low expectations and the night we went just happened to have a DJ and aerial artists! One little girl was passing out glow sticks to all the other children. There was a light up Queen on stilts! Large art installations I would have expected at Golden Gate Park or Burning Man. It was a cornucopia for the eyes and my 6 year old was entranced! Speaking of having a little one, they also had plastic seals/reindeer to help the children balance. $8. Nice to have that option at a fairly doable price. There were a couple of food options there (we went late 7-9pm) so it was good to have something in our bellies. The skates were on the newer end and easy to put on. There was a lovely view of the San Francisco skyline. When you weren't hanging out watching the aerial artists, you could sit and stare at the city. Overall, I'd do this again when it comes back again next year. I took off one star cuz it was $20 and that can be pricey if you want to do it a lot or if you have a big family, but for a holiday special trip, it's worth it. Great little rink! We did advanced tickets, but also needed a walk in. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was my daughter's first time skating. The skating aids were a great way for her to start and even though it was crowded, she took to actual skating quickly seeing everyone else do it. While it was crowded, it was a Sunday afternoon, everyone there was nice and respectful of personal space. My daughter asks to go back every day! read more

I came here with my wife, son, & two nieces. My wife has been wanting to give this place a try every year but had not been been able to due to timing and all. So, we arrived about 30 minutes before the current session was over and the next one was in about an hour. Seeing how we walked here from where we live about a 3/4 mile up Shoreline, we decided to go to grab a bite to eat and come back to pay for the next session. The ice rink itself is indeed a small one and very kid-friendly. They rent seal strollers so that the little ones can use to help from falling on the ice. They also provide helmets. read more

In Alameda during the Xmas season is this little ice skating rink. Its very family friendly for all ages. They have little seals for kids and/or adults can use to skate without falling. Its next to Big 5 sporting goods and has plenty of parking. Fees include skates and helmet if you want one. They sell microwave style hot coco and waters. We had a blast and fell quite a few times. Great outdoor excercise. My kids loved it. 10% off groups of 10 or more. The staff is friendly and helpful. You must first sign a waiver for anyone and everyone that skates. read more

Be aware that even though the website says "Walk-ins welcome!," even if you arrive early, you may not get in. The staff are doing their best, but be ready with a plan B for your disappointed kids. In the end we did get in, because another family had overbought their tickets. Once in, skating was fun, and the bar was a welcome sight for us stressed parents. Way overcrowded! Should charge half as much. A million little kids the ice is packed. The rink is about 1/3 of normal size they just keep letting people in it's freezing cold there's no food. This rink is too tiny and not worth the price in my opinion. An adult ice + skate rental ticket is $17, which is a bit more than you would pay at MUCH larger and nicer rinks (like Sharks Ice in Fremont/San Jose). Even the Union Square ice skating rink is better than this, and that one's pretty small too. The actual ice is bumpy and rough - I feel like its just the ground with a thin sheet of ice over it. The rink was packed with kids holding onto these giant plastic seals so they don't fall down. There was barely any space to move and I felt like I was just walking around in a herd, trying to dodge little kids and seals at the same time. The skates were cheap, plastic, and uncomfortable. Even though the ticket covers unlimited hours, I don't think I could last more than 1 hour in those skates. Probably the worst part of this experience is the digital waver you are forced to sign in the beginning. The screen lags and it takes FOREVER to sign the document. I can imagine the line backing up during popular hours. I will not be coming back to this rink again as I don't think it's worth the money. Take your money to a better rink! read more

GO TO ANOTHER RINK! This rink was poorly managed and dangerously crowded, even though they require reservations in advance. The TINY rink was stuffed with dozens and dozens of huge plastic seals used to help kids skate and give them rides. If that sounds like fun for parents of toddlers, it was not! People were crashing into each other and kids and parents were strewn all over the ice. When I mentioned the dangerous situation to the manager SCOTT, he merely shrugged. Nice, friendly staff...easy process to sign waiver, pay, get skates and lots of room to sit. I had never been ice skating before and was a bit scared but this place is perfect for a beginner. The skates were comfortable and not too hard to walk in....but the seal seals the deal! No need to worry about falling and a perfect way to give your friends a ride. It's a little low to the ground for adults but still works if you don't mind bending over a bit. Although there were lots of kids, they were extremely well behaved (thank you parents!) and it didn't feel too crowded. It would be even better if they had lockers for your shoes & stuff and in & out privileges. We had so much fun, we've made plans to come back! read more

I love this little ice rink. It's usually pretty crowded, but it's always fun. There are tons of little kids which makes you a better skater! Lol! The staff is super friendly. I also love that they sell hot cocoa and little snacks. It gets super cold, and they're always a nice treat for the kids. This is a great ice rink for beginners. They even rent out plastic seals as skating aides for those who need it. It runs seasonally Nov-Jan each year. The rink draws mostly Alameda locals and everyone is very friendly. We even got free tickets from a nice man standing in line right in front of us! My only complaint is that the rink is tiny and hence, gets really congested and crowded at times with lots of people and lots of seals. Also, there are a lot of young kids running around that aren't the most well behaved (i.e. not skating in one direction, chasing or pushing each other, cutting people off, etc.). It would help if they enforced basic ground rules a little more, especially since the rink is full of a lot of beginners. Overall, a great place to go with friends or family - something to look forward to each year! :) read more

The only redeeming quality of this ice rink is, well it's an ice rink that you get to ice skate on. 1) it's really small...and surrounded by strip mall shops. twice we tried to go and it was full when we got there and we didn't want to wait around for an hour. Not the hugest deal you just should call ahead. But if they're going to be the only ice skate rink around, I would hope they could be bigger? 2) the guy giving out the skates was perhaps the laziest person I've seen in a while, and rude. The first pair of skates had a big bend in the tongue which dug into my foot, so I asked to change them out. He almost didn't believe me, trying to show me a diff way to put them on...until he saw it, said "oh", and put them into a diff pile. The next pair he gave me had a big puddle in the heel. I asked for a diff pair without a visible puddle inside (we were there at noon, the first skate of the day). He said they all gave puddles bc the skates above them on the rack drip water into the ones below. I asked "what about those"...he checked 4 pairs and said yup those too have water. He let me stand there and tried to ignore me while helping others coming up behind me. I asked if I could go back and look, he said no you're not allowed, but refused to look for any pairs without a puddle. Finally I asked him "what about those" and he looked at a couple pairs...this went back and forth a few times until he found a pair without water and gave them to me. It was so rude!! 3) the bathrooms are JUST out of reach of the allowable place to walk on skates...so you have to change shoes to go pee then back into skates 4). There are no snacks or hot chocolate or anything...it's not required or anything but for the price I would just expect a better atmosphere. We won't be going back next year. read more

We brought our 3 and 6 year old here - who have only skated once before - and we all had a great time! Most ice skating rinks in the area seem to have chairs or buckets as aids. The plastic orange "seals" they rent at Little Ice Rink are so much sturdier and balanced. The ice skates they rent were also pretty new and fit well. The rink is very conveniently located next to a shopping center with quick eats and a Starbucks. They have a snack shack at the rink, but you need cash. Overall I'd recommend to anyone with young children! For a group of teens or adults this might be too small/too young a rink. read more

Small but fun, nice to bring the family or friends. It's rigged up outside so that means no restroom (porta potties & porta sinks on site) no lockers to store valuables, so lock your stuff in your trunk before you come in. Rink was fairly smooth, but again, it's small, so no Christi Yamaguchi moves here. read more

The ice rink is really fun. I really enjoyed Bobby the Seal! I don't really know how to skate but it tremendously helped me balance myself enough for me to get the movements down. I'd be coming back before it closes. I would of given a 5 star review but I DEFINITELY did not appreciate a girl worker there throwing the helmet I asked for at me and having an overall bad attitude whenever I came up to the rentals area. read more

Adorable and easy! Great access to parking and easy to get started. You will need to sign a waiver (once per season), skate rental is included and you can skate as long as you like. Yes the rink is small but its called the LITTLE ice rink. So dont come and be mad its small, its not meant to be a huge olympic skate rink to go fast and do tricks, its an extremely family friendly little rink to dink around on some ice skates. Open on Christmas day, my family now makes it a tradition to hit the ice after opening presents, a perfect way to spend the morning. Staff is helpful and enforces rules but aren't crazy strict. If you're still learning how to skate, it's small and you get those skating walker things. It's mainly for kids though. We went and it was pretty crazy with kids everywhere and being a small rink. I prefer the rink in oakland just because it's bigger and there's more space to move, and if you're still learning like my gf, then you don't have to worry about ppl cutting you off all the time. I visited the Little Ice Rink in Alameda several times while on vacation recently and had a great time! The staff were super friendly and knowledgable about skate sizes and safety. I am a figure skating coach and was impressed with the staff's ability to quickly identify potential dangerous situations (e.g. people using cell phones on the ice, poor skate fitting, children running around with no shoes on, etc.) and immediately address these dangers with the customers in a respectful and non-confrontational manner. The rink packs a lot of people into a small space but I never felt unsafe nor did I feel as though it was too crowded. In fact, on one of the days I was there, the manager cut off admission once the rink had hit capacity. I was also impressed with the quality of the rental skates. Seeing as how a lot of the people skating there were beginners, it's a great idea to use the plastic boot model with either a figure or hockey blade attached, as it allows for greater ankle support making your first time much easier than if you were in the traditional leather/cloth rental skates, which wear down quickly. I often hear people say they tried skating once and were "bad" at it or "hated it" because they have "weak ankles." In reality, that "weak ankle" feeling is likely due to the worn out rental skate the person was put in as opposed to a true physiological condition. Using the all plastic boot model helps to dispel this "weak ankle" myth and allows for a more enjoyable skating experience. If you are looking for a fun atmosphere with good music, friendly staff, oh yeah and skating on a rink with a view of the ocean, then I would definitely recommend visiting the Little Ice Rink in Alameda. read more
