Great little rink! We did advanced tickets, but also needed a walk in. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was my daughter's first time skating. The skating aids were a great way for her to start and even though it was crowded, she took to actual skating quickly seeing everyone else do it. While it was crowded, it was a Sunday afternoon, everyone there was nice and respectful of personal space. My daughter asks to go back every day!

This place is great for beginners, this is why I would come here before you decide to go to one of the more popular rinks in the city. Pro: -kid friendly -water fountain -seals for the little ones -free parking lot -free helmets -outdoor heater Cons: - rink is on the smaller side Note: You must sign a waiver prior to skating, you will only have to do this once for the season.

I came here with my wife, son, & two nieces. My wife has been wanting to give this place a try every year but had not been been able to due to timing and all. So, we arrived about 30 minutes before the current session was over and the next one was in about an hour. Seeing how we walked here from where we live about a 3/4 mile up Shoreline, we decided to go to grab a bite to eat and come back to pay for the next session. The ice rink itself is indeed a small one and very kid-friendly. They rent seal strollers so that the little ones can use to help from falling on the ice. They also provide helmets.

It was fun and roomy and totally grovey But my ice skates have no spikes on my blades and everyone else's did and I'm sad now but it would have been really fun if it wasn't 20 bucks a person and if my blades had SPIKES the seals where amazing and I love them.... The end

    The ice skates they rent.

In Alameda during the Xmas season is this little ice skating rink. Its very family friendly for all ages. They have little seals for kids and/or adults can use to skate without falling. Its next to Big 5 sporting goods and has plenty of parking. Fees include skates and helmet if you want one. They sell microwave style hot coco and waters. We had a blast and fell quite a few times. Great outdoor excercise. My kids loved it. 10% off groups of 10 or more. The staff is friendly and helpful. You must first sign a waiver for anyone and everyone that skates.

Brought my son with friends to celebrate his birthday. This spot has easy parking, well-priced and a fun rink to bring kids.

This was a great place to go as a damily, and have fun. They fix the ice after a session is done for better skating. Highly recommend.

Skate Escape is located inside the mall, right next to a small video game arcade. I was informed by…read morestaff that a "skating with love" community event was happening. There was no charge to skate, though the skating pass price of $12 posted online is not bad, especially without the $3 skate rental cost (since I have my own rollerblades). This place is quite simple. A small shoe cubbies storage unit against the wall, a few seats and tables outside the rink, a restroom in the back, socks and snacks (water, chips, gatorade) sold behind the counter, and friendly staff making everyone feel welcome. The rink had a smooth and sturdy surface, creating an ideal skating experience. It was surrounded by plexiglass, able to withstand the barrage of kids crashing into the walls. Tiny disco balls hung from the ceiling, along with colorful decorative string lights. Mainly hip hop and rnb music played through the speakers, a song list including Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, I Want To Be Your Man by Zapp, and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough by the king of pop. The skating rink was small but never felt crowded. There was plenty of space to glide freely, and it was easy to dodge the kids. Even the skate aids didn't take up a lot of space or get in the way. It was a pleasant experience, a carefree atmosphere with everyone just having a good time. Skate Escape was a great option for a rainy day activity to enjoy while in the area.

The staff is very very friendly and the space is huge! Very fun and unique place to throw a kids birthday party, which we did! The little room in the back where you throw parties was able to comfortably accommodate our party of 16 although most of the time the kids were busy skating in the main area. It was affordable to rent the room and they are lenient on the type of food you could bring in etc. place was high energy and the music selection is the bomb! We will be throwing many more parties in the future!

I was nervous at first to send my daughter with zero skating experience on the ice, but she was met with such qualified and gracious instructors that made her feel really supported! she is thriving and I'm really glad I signed her up here. The only downfall is that the ice rink lobby area is not well kept. It could be that it was impacted from the pandemic, which I understand, but hopefully, as the economy picks back up management will be able to invest more in the cleanliness and organization of the lockers, food options, cleanliness, party area and overall appearance of the lobby to make it more appealing to visitors and improve the quality of the experience here.

However, because it's the only rink around for miles, it's booked up with lessons, freestyle skate time, hockey games and private events. Public skate times are rare and usually during working hours. For those on hockey teams, the schedule can be all over the place because ice time is at a premium. The price for public skate is also the most expensive one in the Bay Area if you have your own skates. As of 2024, its $20. For reference, Yerba Buena in SF is $14 for GA and Sharks Ice in Fremont and San Jose are $16, Snoopy's Home Ice in Santa Rosa is $8-$14 depending on the day of week, and Oakland Ice is $16 with an additional 10% off for Oakland residents. In addition, the other rinks have passes for frequent skaters that drops the price more. Now if you factor in the cost of skate rentals, then San Mateo is in line with most places but Ice Oasis doesn't give a price break for not renting skates. That being said, because I live in San Mateo, this is my best option for now and I don't want them to close. I just wish their economics and schedule could more closely mimic the other rinks.

Though it's purportedly the largest ice skating rink in the bay area, I wasn't impressed. The crowds on black friday somehow made it feel miniature. Even though pre-purchasing tickets is a requirement (according to the website), there was a long line at entry in the beginning of the afternoon session, with just two staff members scanning tickets and placing bracelets on people's wrists, not the most efficient system. Service was strangely slow at the concessions stand too, even with a just a couple of customers waiting to order hot chocolate, candy, and other snacks and goodies on their very limited menu. The seating area had no shortage of lockers (locks available for puchase at the concessions stand) and shoe cubbies along one side, and was covered by a large tent sheltering skaters as they put on their skates. There were also a few porta potties hidden behind the tent but no restroom signs anywhere (I had to ask someone to find out). They don't offer half sizes so the worker recommended sizing down, and that was good advice as these skates happened to run large, especially at the forefoot. The skates were also seemingly in brand new condition and a bit uncomfortable, hard inside and not quite broken into. I didn't mind the classic christmas music playing in the background, a great way to get into the holiday spirit. String lights were hung above the rink, and I noticed a single christmas tree standing just outside the ice rink. But otherwise there was not much holiday decor on display the day after thanksgiving. Puddles formed on the sunny side of the rink during daylight, and the surface was rough along the edges, so much that I almost fell when I first tried out the ice. It reminded me of why I enjoy rollerblading on smooth ground more than gliding on ice in dire need of a zamboni. It also took a bit of time to get used to dodging the kids and inexperienced adult skaters, especially with a multitude of skate aids in use (giant plastic walkers which they really should limit, cuz how can people get around on the ice with so many of these taking up space on the floor at the same time?!?). To make matters worse, the staff does not enforce the rules here, so you'll find kids going in the wrong direction, people chain skating, and 4 or more teens holding hands while barely moving (cuz they don't know how to skate) interrupting the flow of traffic. My experience here was less enjoyable than I imagined it would be, but I still made the best out my time on the ice. I was glad to find easy parking too (street parking was free for the holiday weekend, but there's a parking garage on site as well).

We were able to buy tickets on-site using a QR code at 5:30pm and there was no hassle on getting our wristbands. There was a longish line to grab skates and the ice was really crowded. As more people got on the ice, it was a little hard to skate if you arnt supper confident in your abilities but as the session went on, more people left the ice so it became a little easier. The ice seemed pretty well maintained aside from the normal wear and tear of having people on the ice. At 7pm they made an announcement that the session had ended and had everyone exit. Overall a pretty good Christmas skate experience.
