Absolute standout of my visit to Nora's had to be the Kadu. The mix of the squash, meat sauce, and yogurt with herbs was just right and gave a wonderfully complex taste - the right amount of sweetness, savory, and fresh. My partner and I also got the lamb shank - the accompanying rice was well cooked and the lamb was very tender and the right temperature. I had the signature Nora's cocktail - very hibiscus-y and it is on the sweet side. We had a great service, the waiter was quite attentive and thoughtfully checked to see if our dishes had nuts before placing our order (one of us has an allergy. Stumbled here as I was looking for one place and couldn't find it and opted for this spot. We walked in and wasn't greeted, caught the bartenders attention and was told to take a seat any place we like. Took a spot on the patio and waited for someone to bring us a menu much less a drink. Finally got the menu and asked if we could start with water and she dropped the water off and kept it moving although we knew what we wanted. Got our drinks ordered and food ordered and waited and waited and waited as we watched the people next to us who came in after us get their drinks & food. My first stop in Dallas after a long flight in was at Nora in the Bishop Arts neighborhood. My friend picked me up from the airport and we headed to this artsy district to stroll (it's always good to get a walk in after flying)... but intsead of walking immediately, we stopped in at Nora. There weren't too many people here, and it seemed like a good time to sit at the bar and have a drink. I decided on the Texas Sagebrush, and it was quite a pleasant drink on a sunny afternoon. Then we ordered spicy chicken meatballs, lamb tikka taco, chicken with yogurt and chicken from the grill which came with vegetables and saffron rice. My friend found this restaurant on Yelp. When we went, it was during a Bishop Bazaar so it was prime for people watching. When we got in, we were seated immediately and our waitress brought our waters and took our drink order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you are getting a lot to eat you may struggle because most of their tables are really small.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried their old fashioned and my friend and I shared hummus and bulanee and I got the arugula salad. That's when our experience started to go sideways. It took about 10 -15 minutes to get our drinks (it wasn't that busy). Then it took almost another 20 minutes to get our food (only appetizers and a salad!) The only reason I gave them 3 stars is because the food and drink were good. The bulanee was lukewarm but still tasty. The hummus was amazing, honestly it was some of the best I've had. It had some whole chickpeas that added texture, it had a nice amount of lemon juice, and it had tomato and parsley that brightened it up, the naan was warm, everything about it was good. My salad was huge and the ingredients were fresh, and it had the perfect amount of vinaigrette. I really think the waitress was where the opportunity was. I don't know if she had too many tables or what, but the table next to us got their drinks and appetizers before we did and we were there before them. Get More-a at Nora. This place is the first I've been to in Bishop Arts that gives decent portion sizes, which is a welcome change of pace to the equally expensive but petit dishes served at Paradiso, Casablanca, or Eno's. And what's ON those big plates is top notch-- my lamb was perfect, the rice was seasoned perfectly, and it was overall a 10/10 taste. My Girlfriend's dish was as, if not more, amazing. I've never been to Afghanistan so can't vouch for what "authentic" Afghan food tastes like, but if it tastes like this than a trip to Kabul is in high order, Taliban or no Taliban. Hidden gem in Bishop Arts. I've been a couple times now and the food nor their unique cocktails have missed. Pro tip for dog hoomans: order the lamb shank because it comes with a huge bone that your dog will love. I ate here with my husband and some friends about a week ago at around 7pm on a Saturday. We had the eggplant appetizer and sambosa. Both were tasty. I had the mantoo for dinner which was tasty but I felt like it needed to be hotter and also come with rice or something. My husband had one of the lamb dishes and he really enjoyed his. Our service was very poor. I would recommend that the restaurant retrain their waiters to know their menu, not insult their menu (one of my friends asked for a recommendation and the waitress was like "um well don't get the chicken, it's gross"), the waitress rushed us, tried to take my half glass of wine away, and then never offered us dessert and instead just brought us the bill. We probably would have gotten dessert and more drinks but we weren't give the option. read more

The other day, we spent the afternoon in Bishop Arts District of Dallas! One of the places we tried was Nora. There is on-sight paid parking ($6) or free street parking if you're able to find any. We had a pretty late lunch around 3/4pm and had no trouble getting a table. We were one of 3 parties. There is limited seating but you can always set reservations online if needed. We started with a couple cocktails: the Texas Sagebrush and the Apricot sour. Both were delicious! We then had our entrees: Chicken Korma and Lamb shank. I preferred the Chicken Korma over the Lamb shank by a very small margin. The Chicken Korma had the perfect ratio of chicken, sauce, and rice. Nora is definitely in the pricier side but with how good the food is, I'd say it's worth it. Can't wait to go back! read more

You are 100% paying for location and not food. FYI we thought that there was a rooftop bar but that is their Greenville location and it is not open anymore. Their bishop arts location is smaller. Had a party of five at this restaurant. Had a tuba player that night which was nice . But Nora...what're you doing? You have the capability to be something so great and you deliver poorly. We got several different dishes. Got the chicken meatballs and the hummus appetizer to start. The meatballs were $12 ($4 a piece since there were three) and were very average. The hummus was very minimal due to the esthetic plating I'm sure the chef tried to convey. We also tried several drinks. I had the mule. It was filled with so much cardamom that I was coughing. We also got the margarita and the sagebrush and Silk Road- all were very average ens don't too alcoholic. For entrees we got the mantoo, the lamb korma, the Kofta chalao, and chicken korma. All were extremely basic dishes that has minimal spices. I know that afghani dishes are NOT this plain. We were hungry so we ate our expensive dishes. They were edible and average, just not worth the price that was advertised. We aren't going to be back. I get that you are in the heart of bishop arts district, but to spend $100 per couple, this is not worth it. Nora, find a chef that brings culture in your food. Otherwise you will likely fail.
