4 of us had dinner here last night and it was underwhelming. The salmon was undercooked and it sat on a dressing that was tasteless. The saving grace of all our meals was the tuna tartar taco. Every else tasted lackluster and like the chefs were tired of making the same dishes over and over. We stopped in for Happy Hour , and our waitress--I believe her name was Tanisha (hope I got that right!)--was fantastic . The Brussels sprouts were flavorful and cooked perfectly as well. After reading the reviews, I was really expecting more from this place. I didn't have a bad experience, but nothing stood out to me either. The service was just okay; nothing above and beyond. We ordered a few entrees (Wagyu Meatloaf, Falafel Burger, Korean Fried Chicken, Cacio E Pepe) and none of them blew our minds. For the KFC to be as popular as it is, I was a bit underwhelmed. It was something about the Korean sauces that didn't hit home for me. The Toffee Bread Pudding we ordered for dessert was also mediocre and I was disappointed that there were more chocolate chips than there were toffee pieces (maybe 2). The caramel ice cream was a nice touch, however. I would have been a okay with just the two scoops of that. I'm happy to say that I have tried it, but I do not plan on coming back. read more

Celebration dinner!! This place was very good and the atmosphere and staff are spot on. From the TM that seated us to our server who held a conversation about life was so engaging. Worth the visit. Came for Valentines dinner. Overall, overpriced. Michelin restaurant, impressive. However: No valet and it sketchy parking. We glad we weren't towed or given a ticket. Had 2 courses before our drinks arrived. The bartender was overwhelmed and there was no way we were going to get a drink to complement the course we were having, including dessert. Tiny place so we sat on an outdoor patio. The food was delicious with very small portions. It was good, but just too pricey for what we got, the lack of atmosphere and lack of service. read more

I recently dined at Stock & Barrel for Valentine's Day and was genuinely excited for the reservation. However, the experience left little to be desired to ever return. Intimate conversation isn't possible due to the decor failing to absorb sound - very industrial. If you like fine dining, unique flavors, and good service, then don't dine at Stock & Barrel. I sure won't. This restaurant has more in common with Michelin Tires than Michelin Stars. My very first bite of "crispy" polenta was so hot it burned my mouth (and was obviously reheated in a microwave) and had zero flavor. It took about 20-30 minutes to get a drink. I ordered the batch valentines cocktail listed at the top of the menu. My server forgot to bring it with the other drink, so that took another 10 minutes. Before I discuss my food issues, I want to let everyone know that the Spicy Tuna Tartare Tostada was actually very good. I enjoyed it. I was so hungry - the prix fixe menu was very small for $115 per person. I was never offered the wine pairing, which I would have done going into the experience. I'm glad that I didn't because wine couldn't save the food. After the first bite I hate to report that the rest of the food was also bland, burnt, and disgusting. My crispy duck confit was SCORCHED. The duck was dry. The kumquat sauce was the only flavor on the main course. The quinoa risotto was dry and flavorless. Very disappointing and underwhelming. Next, I was praying this bread pudding situation was going to leave my experience on a good note. Nope. They sliced a French bread baguette, burnt it, scooped melted ice cream on top and random unmelted chocolate chips. That's embarrassing. Not only is this not bread pudding...it's not fine dining. I've had it with some of the overpriced and underwhelming restaurants in downtown BA. Stock and Barrel exceeded all expectations. My wife and I ordered enough food to take home two meals and spent about $130 with the tip. Everything we had was perfect. The french fry looking things are actually brisket cigars. Delicious with a dipping sauce at the bottom. The salad with pears was delectable. The roasted artichokes was a pleasant surprise and brought me back to my childhood when my mother used to make me artichokes and then cut out the hearts. The brussels sprouts were sweet and tangy. But the rockstar was the Wagyu meatloaf. Wow. Flavorful, spicy with a kick. Very filling. Took me two sittings to finish it. The service was excellent. Dined at Stock & Barrel on a Thursday evening with a group of friends. We were seated immediately when we got there, the place is well done and different than typical Dallas restaurants. There is street parking around, or a lot across the street. For appetizers we tried the crispy truffled oyster mushrooms, wagyu meatballs, whipped feta, and braised ribeye cigars. The oyster mushrooms seemed like their take on using mushrooms to make a calamari-like dish. I liked it, but couldn't eat more than a few pieces as it was a bit oily. The whipped feta dip was perfection. Salty, spicy, and perfectly paired with crostinis - yum! The group loved the remaining items, and especially loved the wagyu meatballs. For my main dish I got the falafel sandwich with fries on the side. The fries were very good, perfectly crispy and just the right thickness. The falafel sandwich was very flavorful too, but unfortunately I was too full to dive too deep into it. I guess a good problem to have, right? Our server was friendly and on top of it. Our server Julio was amazing, not sure he's been working there but he def knows his stuff! Our hostess's was also super friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is a bit moody, chic casual. It's a small restaurant but was packed, so I def would recommend reservations. The drinks were so good! The fresca includes cucumber (which I don't like) but you won't really taste it. The sticky rice with Korean fried chicken was great, my only suggestion would be to add a bit of spice and more pickled onions. They make a house made siracha that went really well the meal. The burger was also good as expected! I couldn't leave without ordering the croissant bread pudding and I'm so glad I didn't! They only had two official vegetarian/ vegan entree dishes. The shareable vegetables were like appetizers, so small portions of individual vegetables. I got the avocado tostada and asked without cheese, but it was just boring. It was literal to its name. Sure it had cabbage in top but, that really didn't make it exciting. It was just boring and not really worth it. Also my plate was like a tree stump.... Which i guess is cool, but was tiny. My already tiny tostadas barely fit on it. Toffee croissant bread pudding was tasty but not a must have. Minus one star for mixing up my order with the special version of the squid ink campanelle. The special had hazelnut, Calabran chiles and an egg yolk whereas the standing menu version has tomato confit and Spanish chorizo. I got a combination of both - Spanish chorizo, hazelnut and calabran Chiles. For someone who doesn't have much of a spice tolerance, hence opting for the standard version, there was definitely a kick to the pasta. They offered grilled toast to offset the heat but disappointed that they charged for it without disclosing it would be extra. Been years since my last visit... possibly over 10! Still a great atmosphere with great service provided by "Perry M" and team. I think I just chose the wrong things since for the most part I was underwhelmed and/or maybe my expectations were too high. The simple bibb salad was unmemorable. The few leaves of bibb lettuce were huge and the tomatoes, green olive and onions added little to the mix. The dressing was quite good. Wish they had better side-salad options to choose from. The black mussels and jumbo shrimp, shared as an appetizer was the highlight of the meal! Good sized, fresh mussels. Nice large shrimp. And a delicious mild curry broth. Only negative: just two small slices of bread which was not enough to soak up the extra broth left on the plate! While a recommendation, the sous vide short rib was just not to my liking. The chimichuri was just far too garlicky and overpowering for the rather small piece of meat. Over 5 hours later and that taste is still not out of my mouth. Had I had the mussels and shrimp as my entree and chosen a different appetizer in place of the simple bibb salad, I'm sure I would have had an entirely different opinion. The fourth star is for that portion of the meal. I'd have no issue returning. Far too many positive points to let a couple bad choices keep me away. The parking in that area these days, however, is another story! I miss the years I could just pull up a block or two from Hattie's and usually have no problem finding a spot! read more
