My wife and I love finding speakeasy-style bars, especially when traveling. It can be a hit-and-miss quest at times and most are genuinely ok but some turn out to be fairly ordinary. Nora's Speakeasy absolutely falls into the "hit" category. Easily one of our top two or three spots we've ever visited. While relatively easy to find, nevertheless making your way in to Nora's lends that perfect air of intrigue as you make your way from the front door. You still sort of have to "find" it, which was fun. Then once you get to the actual entrance and open the door you are greeted with a perfect ,dark, intimately small space. On this occasion we happened to be the first ones there. We were immediately and warmly greeted by Shannon and invited to find a seat anywhere, quickly presenting us with a complementary aperitif that changes regularly and is crafted in-house. All the seating is cozy - from nice spots for two at tables or booths to more spacious seating for larger groups. All give a feeling of privacy even within the small setting. A very well stocked bar takes up one wall with seating for several people. The cocktails are nothing short of fantastic. Shannon was great in explaining the menu. There is an impressive selection of traditional cocktails alongside great variations of the same called "Nora's Takes". Additionally there is a selection of rotating crafted drinks. I chose the Bullroarer, a fantastic concoction of curry-infused vodka, fresh lime juice and honey ginger; holy smokes! Absolutely delicious. My wife opted for the Soup Season which was also great, with a hint of a Bloody Mary vibe. To close out our libations we chose the traditional Aviation and Penecillin. Wow, again. All the cocktails were wonderfully crafted and presented by Shannon. There is also a small menu for bites to eat if you're inclined. So, overall it's obvious we REALLY loved Nora's Place. It's a perfect blend of cozy and intimate space, dark and a bit mysterious. Service is great - Shannon was so helpful and friendly, checking up periodically while attending to quite a few other patrons. Nora's is very highly recommended. This is a place I would easily frequent if I lived in the area and one I will definitely make a point to revisit next time. Hope it's soon.

This speakeasy is hidden in the heart of Louisville, and it's a wonderful surprise once you find it. The atmosphere is intimate and stylish with impressive cocktails. It's the perfect place to visit for drinks and a bite with friends or a date before heading to dinner. I enjoyed the Nora's Southside made with tea-infused gin, and my daughter loved her Black Manhattan. Our waitress was friendly and professional, although I was surprised how slow service was considering the place was almost empty when we visited. The drinks weren't made behind the bar, and our nuts took a while to arrive after we got our cocktails. Despite the minor hiccup, we had a wonderful time and will definitively go back!

I ordered a cocktail and merengue cheesecake.

What a beautiful hidden speakeasy! I went with my boyfriend and beat friend and we each found something on the cocktail menu to enjoy - a fruity drink, a dry drink and a deep whiskey. Their desserts and appetizers were all hits and the customer service was wonderful!

Delicious drinks, plus a cool speakeasy vibe. It was hopping, even early on a weeknight. Bartender was friendly, fast and helpful.

True to the name, they hold one of Boulder's first liquor licenses. Inside is a maze of sorts, as you wander through different rooms offering different vibes and activities. They have two bars, host comedy nights and live music, various types of seating, and a wonderful happy hour menu that people should know about. Happy hour is from 5-7pm on all days they're open! PENICILLIN ($8) // Dewar's White Label Blended Scotch Whisky, Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, ginger cordial, honey, lemon. A penicillin is one of my favorite cocktails; one you don't even find on many cocktail menus. The act they're offering it up, for $8 no less, earns a special place in my heart. MOJITO ($8) // Bacardi Superior Rum, mint, simple syrup, lime. Refreshing on those hot days. Served in a large highball glass, this is an enjoyable sipper. BREADED CALAMARI ($10) // Calabrian chili agrodolce, orange salt, chive. I believe the food comes from the upstairs restaurant, so I wouldn't go out of my way to order this one again. Pieces were inconsistently chewy, dare I say rubbery? However, I was hungry and still chowed down. TRUFFLE FRIES ($6) // Truffle aioli, parsley, Parmesan. These are a winner. Truffley and cheesey, what more can a fella ask for during an inebriated meal? Would order these again in a heartbeat! I liked the casualness of this speakeasy. It makes sense considering they're inside a hotel and people will wander in and out of different spaces. Great place to hideaway or have a date night. Need to check out one of their live music or comedy nights!

Oh gosh... let me start by saying, I hate to leave a two-star review for License No. 1…read more... My husband and I went to the NYE event at License No. 1. We had event tickets for NYE inside the speakeasy as well as the comedy show at 8PM. The comedy show was great- hilarious in fact! I loved the comedians. The service for drinks was very slow and our seats were uncomfortable. Our seats at least had backs on them, the couple next to us had to sit with their back against the wall, which they said was uncomfortable for the duration of the show. After the comedy act, we went in for the NYE experience. The speakeasy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The furniture, the decor, the mood, all amazing! The line for drinks was asinine. The bar was crowded with what looked like only 2 bartenders working. And the bartenders were making extravagant cocktails that would take more than 5 minutes each to prepare. It was ridiculous! In my opinion, there should have been a set list of drinks to order that would make the line go faster. My husband and I were at License No. 1 from 8PM - 12:30AM and both only had two drinks each because we didn't want to waste our time standing in line. Also, we ordered dinner at 10PM. I ordered a burger with fries and he ordered a Pastrami Sandwich with fries. After an hour went by, I asked about our food order. It turns out they gave it to the wrong table. They told us to wait and they would bring it out shortly. Fast forward, it's now getting close to midnight and time to make the champagne toast. It's around 11:45PM and still no food. I didn't want to be a "Karen" but at this point I was irritated and hungry. I talked to a manager and he said the kitchen was "a mess", all the food order numbers got mixed up, and he seemed surprised we hadn't received our food yet. We finally received our food around 12:15AM. And what was disappointing to me is that I had paid the bill ahead of time when I placed the order, 20% tip included. We left shortly after. I would love to go back to License No. 1 and hopefully have a different experience, where I can leave a 5-star review.

The rooms are very ordinary, not as they appear when you are booking. It's also in a great location--very close to the University of Colorado Boulder and walkable to a lot of shops and restaurants. The lobby is definitely the highlight--absolutely beautiful with intricate details, a vintage glass ceiling, and a grand, elegant feel that gives you a sense of the building's history. Our room was clean, and the bathroom was also well-maintained. The surrounding area felt safe, which we appreciated. That said, the room itself was a bit dark, which seems pretty typical for many American hotels. The biggest downside for us was the required valet parking. It meant we never really had easy access to our car unless we wanted to go through the hassle of requesting it every time. Because of that, we ended up just using Uber the whole stay. Personally, I would much rather just pay to park and have direct access to my own vehicle. To be fair, the valet staff were always very friendly and welcoming whenever we came and went. We also ran into some minor inconveniences--there didn't seem to be enough robes, towels, or washcloths available during our stay. Overall, it was fine for a short visit. The lobby is stunning and the location is excellent, but the valet situation alone would make me choose somewhere else next time.

The inside is a little bit divey in feel but more upscale than your typical dive bar. They had tons of seating, and I saw next to a fireplace because it looked cozy (it was). The server was quick to take my order even though it was pretty busy in there (was rush weekend I think for the university?). I had the tin man HH cocktail because my server said it would be the most floral (has elderflower in it) and I quite liked it! Was very refreshing, not too strong. Aside notes: the bathrooms were quite clean. Parking was a little chaotic, some is paid parking and some is free 2 hour. There are only a couple spots right in front, I had to park a few blocks down but it was in 2hr free park by another small business that was closed for the day. I didn't have any issues there. Overall thought this was a fun little bar in Boulder with good happy hour drinks, I would def come back :)
