It's a huge store and shoes are just one part of the deal-finding fun. Whether you think what you have found is a deal or not will depending on your own sensibilities. Somehow I, a non-shopper, have shopped here a lot recently, and even scored some finds. My best experience yet subtracted, not added, to my wardrobe. A pair of shorts ripped on their first wear. The receipt suggested I couldn't return them. We walked in anyway, and walked out two minutes later with the charge reversed. I've never experienced such an efficient return. read more

I really hate leaving 1 star reviews but this place really deserves it per my experience. I came in and purchased 2 shirts and the cashier accidentally left one of the security tags on my shirt. I should've noticed since I left the store and the alarms went off. Funny enough - I left and re-entered the store with the security tags on and both times the alarms went off and neither time did the security guards react to the alarm. Funny how if they did, maybe I would not have had to return to get the tag taken off my shirt. I honestly didn't notice because sometimes I feel those alarms go off out of nowhere. When I came back to have the security tag removed, I politely asked a different cashier if I could have a discount/store credit/reimbursement for my trouble, and she could not honor that at all. I would have asked to speak with the manager, but I had to make a dinner on short notice and just left without creating a fuss. I was also standing on the line for about 15 minutes just to get the tag removed off my shirt. I will no longer be a patron at this Nordstrom Rack and I do not recommend you be one either! This Nordstrom Rack is limited in size, but highly organized. They offer primarily designer items, and all of these items are deeply discounted but still pricey. Today I found Kate Spade, Parker, St John, Joie, Good American, and other designer items. They have a great shoe section!! There is typically a line for the dressing room, but it generally moves pretty quickly. There is also typically a line for the women's restroom, and this line does not move so quickly. Overall this is not a "bargain shopping" location as most clothing items are over $100. But if you are looking for discounted designer items, this is your spot! They also can ship items to you from other stores, and they offer 90 day returns! read more

Their layout is more aesthetically pleasing than the one on 31st but their women's bathroom is a joke. Three stalls. No, sorry, two. (One is big space that looks like a stall but is actually just one big waste of space). So two stalls, only one of which is actually not out of order. Of all the Nordstrom Racks I've been to, this one is definitely one of the higher-end ones. They carry a ton of designer brands and nicer stuff. There's always a ton of staff present and usually, they have a seamstress or two on hand. But with their staff, it's usually hit-or-miss in terms of their friendliness/helpfulness. While this Nordstrom Rack has a lot of nicer items, I feel like the store is always in complete chaos and their inventory doesn't turn over that quickly. The racks are usually overstuffed and clothing items & hangers are scattered all over the floor, making it hard to sort through the items. The jeans' table is reminiscent of an Old Navy with crap just scattered everywhere. And the shoes can be inconsistent in terms of what's available. The good stuff goes quick, but the junk nobody wants ends up staying around a long time. The reason it gets 3 stars though is because they do have really nice items, and you can score some great finds while you're there. read more

Craving for some local shopping, that was not too expensive, we looked up Nordstrom and walked easily from out location in East Side. Trains close by, very accessible. We went down to the escalator. I was looking for a specific brand and staff were amazingly nice in directing me to where i wanted to go. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on whose wallet you ask- you get more than you bargained for. You can get easily distracted from one rack to the next. Apparently they have a great return policy 60 days, if you change your mind. Hopefully you have a Nordstrum where you are from. This Nordstrom Rack is a bit messy and sometimes uncomfortable to move around in -- to be honest, I get a tinsy bit of anxiety whenever I take the escalator down. The only consistent thing I buy at this location is shoes. I wear a size 5/5.5 and while they don't have a large variety of shoes for that size, I've been able to find some shoes I like from time to time. I also do buy lotion and other beauty products/toiletries from here -- they have a pretty good stock of everything from nail polish to lotion to hair products. I'm not a patient shopper so I usually just eye-browse the clothing section. It's so messy sometimes that I don't even bother physically looking through the racks. I've been shopping at various Nordstrom racks for the past 10 years, and have never had a problem with returns. Recently they have become very rigid with their return policy and as much as I 'understand' the need of policies, the attitude of the cashier and a manager we spoke to really startled us. It was customer service at it's worst. They were not interested in solving the problem and just kept repeating the 'store policy' over and over again to us, in a rather condescending way. Carefully check what you buy. I bought a Jean jacket and there was a rip under the arm that went unnoticed. Unfortunately I bought it and found out about it when it was finally cold enough to wear it. The next day I went in the store to see if I can return it (I had the tags and all), but because the tags weren't attached and the jacket was damaged I couldn't return it. She stated that damaged items are immediately pulled from the racks and sent to a warehouse. I guess immediatelu wasn't immediate enough. Won't be buying from this store anymore. This place is usually a miss. I've seen shoes that have been here for months that still haven't been marked down. You would think that they would want a faster turn on the inventory! Since the product have been on the floor for so long, they tend to get beat up and worn out before they have a chance to walk out the store. The customer service here is also lackluster. I was checking out today and had Mark J as my cashier; unfortunately, I did not have a pleasant check out experience as he yelled to me that he couldn't find my zip code to my Nordstrom card after I had told him I changed my address recently on my card and wasn't sure if my new zip code had gone through yet. I know that Nordstrom is known for their customer service but I suppose that their clearance store doesn't get the same training. If it weren't for the fact that there's a 1% chance of finding gold in this rubbish of a store and the fact that they don't sell clearance designer product online, I would probably stop shopping at Nordstrom Rack. read more

Decent selection but like most off-price retailers you have to dig to find the good deals. Most of their items are apparel, shoes and accessories, there's a bit of jewelry. They restock merchandise fairly often and usually I find better items here than other places like Off-Fifth. This location is the only one in the city and located in a major city center/touristy/shopping area in Union Square so be ready to fight crowds since this is a popular place to shop. Props to the store for keeping the checkout lines minimal, there are sufficient registers and also separate checkout areas where they have portable hand-scanners to can scan purchases. read more

I am so disappointed in Nordstrom Rack's business model. If you don't pay $15 for expedited shipping, your clothes could be DRIVEN from a warehouse across the country and take 2 weeks. In my case CA to NYC. When you don't even know if you'll like the items or if they fit, why should you pay so much for shipping?? If you have to return, this becomes into a whole process where you never get the clothes you want in the season you want them. I ordered shoes from DSW the next day and they came already. So I went to Nordstrom Rack in Union Square NYC today. I attempted to buy a pair of Public Opinion shoes, the only problem was that one shoe was missing a shoe lace. I immediately went to a clerk on the floor and received the following response: 1.) "Oh, no problem, they'll give you one when you go to checkout." So I went to checkout (waiting through a long ass line mind you) and received this response: 2.) "No, we don't have them here. You can go to the back and purchase a shoe lace, though!" So I left the line, went back and to look for the clerk in point #1 to tell her about the conflicting response I was given, but instead found a male clerk who said: 3.)" Oh, I don't know why she would say that, we don't even sell those kinds of laces here. Let's see if we have one in the back." He came back a few minutes later and not only do they not have shoe laces that matched my shoe, but they don't have any shoelaces in the back at all. Although there are now many Racks back in California, we have come here to shop whenever we are in Manhattan often multiple times a year. It's become a ritual for us since our son moved here 12 years ago. Service is always friendly and helpful. We have made new clothing purchases here on every visit. Great place to shop if you're looking for a deal on some nice brand name items, but if you're in need of something specific I'd recommend going elsewhere. You never know what you're going to find at Nordstrom Rack, which is half the fun. This location is pretty big for a New York City retail store, but much smaller than the Nordstrom Rack back home in Maryland. I've found some great deals here specifically on workout clothes and designer jeans. Regular Paige, Jbrand and Joe's jeans are always $79 which is a great price compared to the retail price of about $125. Only go in here, though, if you have a some time, because they often don't have multiple sizes in items other than basics so it takes a while to sift through everything. read more

I ordered shoes online in my size from Nordstrom. They arrived about a week later, and do not fit comfortably as they are leather and even soft leather does not stretch enough to make 'em fit easily. I am a disabled senior staying at home mostly. Trying to contact Nordstrom via its Chat mechanism or by phone has met with much difficulty these past 5-6 weeks. Finally I got to speak with someone named Nicholas W. on the Chat mechanism after waiting 5 1/2 hours! For one thing he would not give me the name of the CEO of Nordstrom, and he would not send the Chat conversation I had with him to my email address citing 'security'. So now I am stuck with a pair of shoes that do not fit and I must keep them here until Nordstrom opens up again. read more

Union Square Location - rating for their service. I came in tonight (Jan 2, 2014) around 8:45 PM and was greeted by an asian male employee, who was wearing glasses, had facial hair, and wore a green shirt (other employees were dressed in the same shirt). I also think he had tattoos on his arms. The store wasn't closed yet, and I even confirmed with another employee that the store was open. The asian guy didn't want me to walk through the aisle, and told me that the store was closed (even though I saw a lot of people shopping still). I told him that it looked like there were still people shopping, and he said to go ahead and shop, so I proceeded. Unbeknownst to our Nordstrom Rack greeter, my friend was trailing behind me when the employee (the asian male I had described earlier) started to talk crap about me. My friend decided to not tell me while we were in the store, so that I wouldn't get angry (and most likely start arguing with the jerk), but the guy was saying stuff like "you're an idiot," and other stuff that my friend couldn't hear clearly. Pretty unprofessional and it was disappointing to hear an employee talk crap about the store's customers. I've shopped here on multiple occasions and have never encountered an incident like this. I have been shopping at Nordstrom Rack a lot, but it was a TERRIBLE experience shopping at this Nordstrom Rack store. I was buying a pair of shoes and returning something else at the check-out, and I have my grocery shopping bag with me on the table. I was talking kindly to the guy (looks like the manager of the store), and he ignored me all the time. Then, he went through my bag without my permission to see if I have stole anything. I didn't say anything or call the police because i don't want to make it a big deal. But indeed, I felt extremely terrible about it. I've never met such a RUDE, UNEDUCATED, RACIST, NAIVE shopping assistant who ACT LIKE A SNOB. HR really need to teach his manner before hiring someone like this. The Nordstrom Rack made its debut on May 11th. Just one escalator flight down, the entrance opens up to a large one floor shopper's paradise. Seeing the light to medium gray vinylish tile is a calming classic color I feel. Yet, I must admit that lasted all of one minute as I then felt that flush of rush one feels when in a brand new store watching customers get their shopping high on. On one ground level only, Nordstrom Rack manages to arrange (in an attractive layout I might add) many products for purchase. In strolling about, I noticed the following sections: Accessories, Active Wear, Designer Dress section, Designer Casual and Work Wear, Shoe section, Mens Wear and more. The prices are moderate. Some items even inexpensive considering the quality of materials, merchandise and more. Of course there are the more expensive items which are still a bargain considering the designer label. I found some sales and bargains galore on the items I needed. Although one could seriously "rack" up, I personally feel good that I stuck to only purchasing the essentials I needed- sticking to my budget. Yay! It wasn't easy. Not easy at all! The sales associates I spoke with were pleasant and helpful. NR is well organized and designed. I come to this Rack pretty regularly; about once a week, even though the one in Queens is closer to where I live. The reason is they DO have some amazing bargains on high-end items, you just have to have the patience to look (I also have an app on my phone that tells me if an item is priced correctly or should be lower - a lot of times the item is less expensive than the tag says). As others have said, great makeup selection and prices, though $8 for OPI nail polish isn't a great bargain. Have found some nice handbags on discount; high end (Valentino Rockstud, Jimmy Choo, Proenza Schouler), but you have to get there very first thing in the morning. Recently they've been keeping a lot of the high end bags in back stock as they had a problem with shoplifting. Which leads me to one of the reasons I'm only giving them three stars; for the second time in less than two months, I purchased a bag that isn't authentic. The management needs to be better trained on how to spot knock-offs. I didn't realize it until I went to use it on Friday. I'm hoping the don't give me any trouble about returning it. My other reason for giving it three stars isn't so much the store itself, but the horribly rude customers. Take a walk through the shoe section and ponder what these peoples homes must look like. It's atrocious. And don't expect anyone to say "excuse me" when they ram their Suburban sized stroller into you. I could spend hours in the shoe section (and usually do - but not for the reasons I want to). They have a lot of high end shoes that you simply won't find on sale anywhere else (i.e. rag & bone rarely puts their most popular boots on sale, but you can find them here for half off). Some of the staff are really nice; others are horrible and shouldn't work in retail. I know I couldn't stand working there; people talking to you like a piece of garbage, throwing stuff on the floor, leaving things where they don't belong, etc. But I found a $998 jacket here for $39.97, so I'll just take an extra klonopin and deal with it. read more

The one benefit of the endless waits is that I almost always leave the merchandise behind, which means I'm saving a fortune. It's become a kind of game; today, I had a pair of $240 pants in hand, and gave up after ten minutes in a very long line. I'm now buying the same pants, slightly used, for half that. Did you know that if you buy an article of clothing from Nordstom's with a Nordstrom's card, they will alter it free?! I mean, first you pay, then they refund the payment in Nordstrom Notes. Just like money. Well, money that you must spend at Nordstrom's. (Do you know that it can cost $25 in Manhattan to have an original hem on jeans?!) To me, Nordstrom's spells suburbs, and actually, I was out of town when I happened to go on a spontaneous shopping spree. Advised of the policy on alterations, I applied for a Nordstrom's charge card and continued to shop and I haven't stopped since. By now I have ordered many jeans from Nordstrom's online and then brought them in Nordstrom Rack to be shortened. The tailors (seamstresses? alterations ladies?) are very pleasant, also experienced. Apparently they have seen it all, although how much there is to see, I'm not sure. Very quick service: go to the fitting room and they immediately call the ... well, you know who. to come down; they arrive in a few minutes; measure you; give you the pants and a receipt. Then you take them to the cashier to pay (or non-pay). This is the only part that may take a while. But not always. And your cell phone will not work. Forget about texting your husband while he is waiting for you in Union Square. The pants turn around pretty quickly. If you're in a rush, they try to accommodate. Then you get your Nordstrom Notes in the mail and get ready to make more purchases. Personally, I don't care for the ambience or selection for shopping, but apparently -- based on the reviews here -- others do. Five Stars for the alterations, but I had to take one off for the rest of the store, which doesn't appeal to me. read more

Love this place! They always have designer shoes, purses and dresses for excellent prices. They can't really compete with Century 21 prices, but than again I don't think really anyone can compete with them, except for maybe the outlet stores. One thing that Nordstrom Rack has Century 21 beat in, is the shoe section. I love shopping for shoes here. They have two section for shoes: one where its all designer shoes so they are more expensive and the back section which has regular shoes. But even the regular shoes are designer brands! I love the fact that they have a ton of shoes in every size so you're not left choosing from like 2 shoes in your size. They have great designer purses and cute dresses as well. The store itself is nice, neat and clean with the fitting rooms thankfully are bigger than a postage stamp. They also have a nice bathroom if you're in the area and really need to go :) I have spent many a dollar here much to my husband's chagrin. I'm no shopaholic, but I think Nordstrom Rack delivers great value. Went on the first day to check it out and had a very informative conversation with one of the men's shirts salesmen. Came back a few weeks later to upgrade my wardrobe for work. Hugo Boss suit for $350, with in-store tailoring services, it came out to $400. Even though the pick-up date was supposed to be a week from purchase, I asked the tailor that I needed the suit asap and was able to pick it up 4 days ahead of schedule! Tailoring was definitely satisfactory, the buttons on the cuffs needed to be adjusted during the process and the tailor did so without charging me extra. The saleswoman in the suits section was also very patient and not-pushy, offering price-appropriate style recommendations after asking the right questions. Very useful, if you don't have a competent girlfriend ;) English Laundry shirts for $40 each. What awesome shirts! Unique detailing around the neck and cuffs, with intricately patterned seams on the insides. Got 5 of these and they are my favorite shirts now, hands down. Looks great at work and converts easily into a sharp stylish shirt for going out once the tie and suit come off. Definitely a good find. DKNY silk ties, $20. Wide selection of ties, took my time finding matching ones for my new shirts. I'm extremely picky when it comes to ties, but still came away satisfied. The men's shoes section was somewhat lackluster. The checkout line was so efficient! Definitely coming back here. read more

Obviously no one from corporate bothers to check on what goes on in there. I asked for a shopping bag and the clerk with tattoos working at the jewelry counter pretended not to have one because he was too lazy to get one. Don't bother with this place. I like to come here to buy some make up and tights / stockings / socks. They carry really cheap Urban Decay, Stila make up and OPI nail polishes. Also good hand lotions and some perfumes ( not the newest one of course) for a really good price! You can find Steve Madden and Jessica Simpson tights/ stockings half the price. They also have designer purses like Michael Kors, Vince Camuto, Juicy Couture. The bad side is women's clothing and shoes section. I can never find anything! Men clothing section is better. My husband bought a lot of T-shirts for 20- 30$ ( Diesel, The North Face). The staff is usually friendly. They have a lot of cashiers so I never have to wait to long. And they always ask you for your email so they can send you copy of the receipt in case you lose it. It was so hot today inside the store, they should pay more attention on that. I found Nordstrom Rack to be very impressive, especially against other discount stores. It's bright, CLEAN, not too crazy crowded considering Union Sq, a 5-10 min wait for the fitting rooms and has a great selection of clothes. I found a really cute sweater for $15 bucks and an awesome French Connection dress for 70% off the original price. I better start hiding my credit cards ASAP. read more

Who doesn't love a bargain? I was here because my brother is a brand whore, always looking for a deal. I can't blame him though. Times are tough. We were here on Saturday afternoon for some casual shopping. We split up. He went to men's side, and I went to women's. It was slim pickins' in the ladies dept. I wasn't in the mood to dig through racks and racks of clothing though. I did find some cool Kenneth Cole earrings for around $12/pair. They also have tons of salon brand hair products, like TiGi. My brother found a pair of Prada loafers to drool over. We waited in a long, but fast moving line to pay. Our cashier was so nice. She was probably 60 years old, little, grey haired Jewish lady, chatting us up! She shamelessly flirted with my brother as she scanned our items. We actually hung out at the register for a few minutes shooting the sh*t. My brother will talk your ear off if you let him. Brands I've regularly seen here include Diane von Furstenberg, Vince and Michael Kors. There's also a wide range of designer jeans (don't ask me the brands, they're never in my size). The shoe department also carries a lot of hits from the previous season. They're priced at a discount, but not as cheap as TJ Maxx or Marshall's. I'll often check on eBay and Google Shopping to see if I can find items priced cheaper before I make a purchase in this store. If you do see a unique piece you like, say by some boutique line that has been discontinued, buy it when you see it. It will likely be gone if you attempt to find it during a future visit. read more

Only Nordstrom anything in Manhattan. It is always busy at this location but that is expected for any department that sells high quality brands for great prices. The best times of the day to visit this location is weekdays before 3pm. It is much more easy to navigate and find a sales associate if necessary. REASONS I SHOP HERE is the selection is huge, great quality , & awesome prices. They keep this store pretty tidy seeing the amount of traffic they get. The associates are extremely helpful and take their time in assisting you. Also if they dont have item in store they will locate it and ship it to you! read more

Great prices for designer items. Sometimes the clothing is hit or miss. I love when I find a great deal here on a designer item, they sell Hudson, 7 for all mankind, and other highly sought after brands. My only real complaint is that I felt like the female security guard was watching and following me a little too much. I am very specific about my handbags, so yes I will inspect it throughly, I wasnt trying to steal a very LARGE handbag!!!!! I was looking at it, turns out the handle didnt sit properly when using the crossbody strap. Arent there a bunch of other customers you can follow around!! Why single me out!!???? read more
