Nordstrom is easily the best department chain in the country. And since this outpost is within 30-45 of Manhattan, I would argue that this is the best choice for city folk who want to shop in the burbs. Sure, you can nitpick and complain about the parking fee, the price points, the brand choices. And this Nordstrom is embarking on a major renovation, so that all the departments are being juggled and the serene atmosphere messed with. All valid points. But the big picture is that the sales staff here is kind, knowledgeable, accommodating, and savvy--no exceptions. The merchandise is well chosen. There's an air of luxury without the sky-high prices. And the ladies lounges feel like private clubs! This Nordstrom is not perfect, but it's as close to retail heaven as you're likely to get. read more

You have to admit this place is not cheap. However, I look on the bright side and see that it offers a clean, upscale decor, knowledgeble and helpful staff (most times), decent to great product selections (depending on the current buyers they have employed), high quality products, great half yearly sales that offer true deals, and great gift wrapping. This store location in The Westchester in White Plains is typical to the other locations. However, the parking here is in a multi level garage and will cost you money. They don't have coupons here like they do at Bloomingdale's or Lord & Taylor, but they do price match. So if Bloomingdale's is having a 25% off friends and family sale and Nordstrom carries the same designer, they will also honor the 25% off. Very easy return policy. I'm specifically reviewing the lingerie department. I needed a bra in a difficult to find size and had heard that Nordstrom's was a great place for just that problem. The store did not disappoint. An extremely helpful and patient salesperson named Marie helped me. She expertly assessed my size, and brought me numerous bras to try on, winnowing down my preferred style and brand. She also helped confirm that the fit for each was right. I left with 3 new bras, a sports bra, and an adorable pajama set. Nordstrom does not have a store in NYC, but I'm now a fan. The next time I'm in Westchester, I may very well return to explore the store's other offerings. read more

The luxury beauty counter's have usually been a let down but things have changed, there are new staff members, ask for Nelson that help with all luxury beauty brands and gives amazing recommendations. He's the only reason we go back to get more beauty, esp Chanel and TF, and luckily they have removed the unfriendly/rude staff! Nelson is the best that this Nordstrom has. The young man who helped me make the in-store order was super patient and helpful. I had about 4 visa gift cards that he said couldn't all be used at once but he kindly transferred those funds on to 2 different Nordstrom gift cards so that I could complete the order! Not many people would have the patience for that, and this was also post Christmas where the store was flooded with people shopping and making returns. I'm with Julie W. -- I too am a Nordstrom fan, and this is the closest available location for me to visit. Unfortunately, they only have a teeny-tiny housewares department, so you will likely need to look to another location or another store for that area (note: Neiman Marcus, the other department store in The Westchester, has no housewares department). After reading some of the terrible reviews of this store, I felt guilty not having written one myself that was a wonderful review. About two months ago, I came to the store shopping for some nice gifts for a newborn. I asked for assistance and received some wonderful guidance from a very positive young lady in the children's department who also let me know that they would ship the gift for free, saving me a lot of time and aggravation-wrapping, post office, etc. I like the way the merchandise was laid out. I wasn't crowded as is the feeling in many other stores. I am often a critic of poor customer service. In this case, I found excellent customer service and excellent attitude. I wish I had an appropriate position available and was in retailing. I would hire this young lady away. read more

Nordstrom is a department store that is known for its excellent customer service, so much so that a book was written about Nordstroms service and used in other trainings for businesses BUT The Westchester Nordstrom somehow has managed to be one of the WORST Nordstroms I have ever shopped at in my life. Came here to get a pair of ray bans 2 weeks ago. When I found a pair I liked I asked the associate to help me purchase them. He took the sunglasses off the rack put them into a small bag and said that would be $226. I told them the one on the rack were dirty and scratched and please get me new ones with the retail box and carrying case. He told me no. I left and went to Sunglass Hut which is in the same mall hidden next to Saks. They had a bigger selection and gave a brand new pair. Horrible customer service by Nordstrom. read more

Hello My husband and I have been going to your Westchester store since store opening. We noticed the Nordstrom sign letters D and R have been out for months. We arrive in the parking garage by the escalator where the old shoe shine use to be, it's always dirty. The store is very messy. The cafe is going down hill,also. After having spent a day walking around in torturous shoes from Walmart and dealing with the abysmal customer service at Macy's, I decided to give Nordstrom a try. I knew going in that I would probably spend a little more money, but at this point all I cared about was quality. Upon entering the shoe department, I was promptly greeted by one of the employees, who had no problem whatsoever walking away from her conversation to assist me. I told her the specifications of what kind of show I was looking for and she immediately walked me over to what she called "heaven in a shoe". After trying it on and walking around for a minute, I could definitely see what she was talking about, however I could not justify spending that kind of money on a shoe and wanted something a little more casual. When I requested to try out a sneaker that I previously had a good experience with, she not only brought out different sizes for assurance but started out with the one she thought would work best, which turned out to be the one! This store just doesn't have the feel of a Nordstrom. From customer service to products, especially men's shoes. But what really makes this store bad is the tailors. The worst. Anywhere. Period. Bar none. Simple hems done while you wait, written on the walls. No way. Ever. Always takes a week to do simple alterations on pant length. It's the tail wagging the dog. read more

Nordstrom does it right! They clearly understand the importance of strong customer service and is one of the many reasons I shop here. I love being able to shop in store and online with their worry free return policy and free shipping. They offer quality items at both very high end prices and middle range prices. My favorite time to shop is their July anniversary sale. I was able to find a complete new wardrobe for the fall for my husband right online from the comfort of our own home! All items arrived relatively timely and in-store returns were painless! I also love the Nordstrom White Plains shoe department. I'm almost always guaranteed to find what I'm looking for. The only downside is I wish they validated parking for all customers that make purchases and not just for Nordstrom cardholders. read more

To be told "just because we can do something doesn't mean we will do it" is the reason I will continue to drive to the Garden State Location. I am a huge Nordstrom fan and have visited many a Nordstrom store across the country and up and down the coasts. I must say, this trip to this store was not my favorite. I found the selection sparse, the store organization difficult to navigate and the customer service sub par. For example, we were in the show department shopping for shoes for my kids. The shoe salesman was less than enthusiastic to help us, begrudgingly bringing us shoes for my children to try on. Then the selection itself was lousy, despite trying on 3 pairs, walked away with nothing. The sales lady in the Burberry department was the only redeeming quality of the store. She was friendly and gracious, letting me try on as many jackets as I wanted. The parking is insane to get to the store and overall it was a very stressful experience. read more

Men's Shoe Department. I typically like shopping at Nordstrom online and wanted to try a couple shoes, so I went to the store last night. Friday, 7:30pm, the men's shoes section was completely empty except for two sales associates. They could not be any more less helpful. They did not offer any help. I finally found a pair I wanted to try on my own and when I asked for the left shoe (the right shoe was on display), they said try the right first. the fit wasn't great so that was the end of that. No recommendations or anything. I know you're bored with your job, but helping customers is part of your job and will actually make time pass faster... Sometimes the stores in the city just don't have what you need. I'm a plus sized girl and I needed a half-length spring jacket. Saks Fifth Avenue closed their Salon Z section (BOOOO!). Bloomingdale's and Macy's (owned by the same company) only have 3/4 length jackets. Lord and Taylor doesn't even bother carrying spring jackets. And although I love Burlington, they can be hit or miss - you have to be there at the right time to buy a jacket or else the good ones are gone. So after some "inanet" research I realized that the store I haven't tried was Nordstrom. BUT its in White Plains! 43 miles from my Coney Island abode. And of course I have no car. But it was a fantastic, sunny day so I decided - why not take on the journey. After a grueling subway ride laden with weekend service changes, a sprint through Grand Central Station (it aint easy finding Track 103 in that place with 5 minutes until your train departs), a ride on the rails of Metro North's Hudson Line and a 10 minute Westchester county public bus ride (they accept Metrocards up there!), I made it to The Westchester Mall in White Plans. And right in front of the bus stop was the entrance to Nordstrom. It was a 3 hour trip, but who's counting. The Nordstrom in White Plains is my 3rd visit to the chain. I've been to the Chicago store (which is huge) and the San Francisco store. They're all pretty much the same: expansive shoe department, pricey handbag section, ridiculously expensive brands section (St. John, Armani, Saint Laurent, Lanvin). But low and behold, they have "special sizes" (big girls and petites are special - gotta love it) and the plus size department is called "Encore". And upon my entrance into the section was the jacket I was looking for (TA-DAH!!). It was the right length, a good fit for my body, the color looked great on me and it was by a brand that the other stores in the City don't carry. I also grabbed two dress shirts that were on sale to add to my wardrobe. The salespeople are great here. They'll hold your items, set up fitting rooms for you and checkout is personal and flawless (they use ipads and ipods). It was definitely worth the trip. The bill was pricey, but reasonable considering the store and the high quality of the clothes. So I'm a happy camper. I'll definitely return to this store. By the way, the bathrooms in this place are beautiful. P.S. - The return trip was MUCH better. I caught the express train back to Grand Central and the subways were much better. Also, Metro North runs 3-4 trains an hour between Grand Central & White Plains on Saturdays in both directions. read more

If you are patient, and not stick to one specific item, you will find clothes that usually cost double for half price. Nordstrom is a place I have been shopping at for many years, since the days I lived in LA, and I still stop here once every few months to renew my closet. What I would avoid in this particular location is the Men's department during the busy hours. You will see sites that you usually see at century 21. I like it on a weekday, and if possible in the early morning, when the place is almost empty, and everyone, from the shoppers to the staff are relaxed. Good quality and OK prices. read more

Came here to buy a party outfit for my 12 year old son. Braced myself expecting to spend a small fortune. But I wanted some quality dress pants that don't look like they came from old navy. Well certainly there were some pricier items like his shirt was $55. But the pants were on sale for $37 plus Nordstrom has complimentary hemming which they got done for me next day! We bought his entire outfit in the children's dept down to shoes and socks. I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for. And I'm happier in the long run bc I get better quality and enjoyment. My son went off to his party looking pretty dapper, so I couldn't be happier. read more

Never have I been more disappointed! I was told over the phone I didn't need an appointment for post mastectomy bra fitting during regular hours. I arrived and of course no fitter was working. In the past I've been able to count on Nordstrom for many things but sadly not any more. The sad thing is they really advertise and promote their post mastectomy offerings as do surgery centers. Several weeks ago I went in to buy some new pants, they did not have my size but the gentleman that was helping me was nice enough to order them for me and have them shipped to my house. I received them in a timely fashion too. Today I went back to have the pants hemmed and was helped by the nicest sale women ever in the mens department, she was patient and very helpful and even tried to find me some more pants. Compared to every other Nordstrom I have been too, this has been, by far, the worst as to customer service! I have visited this store four different times and in all but one I walked away feeling let down by the service. Especially in my most recent visit. We visited the store to get my wife's skirt fixed. When we purchased the skirt we had my mother-in-law purchase it on her Nordstrom card so we would relieve free alterations. They shipped us the skirt after they finished the alterations and when we received it, it had a bunch of cloth and threads hanging out of the zipper and clasp in the back. We took it in to The Westchester Nordstrom to get it fixed. The first lady that helped us was fairly new and did not know how to set up the alteration (not the problem) however, after asking others they said we would have to pay for it. We explained that the original alterations where free and that they messed up, but they still would not have it. We gave them the purchase receipt, alteration receipt, card number, phone numbers of the card holder and everything else they asked for. Then they said they still could not do it. Even after one of the main customer satisfaction assistants came down they claimed they could not do it. Finally almost 2 hours later, after telling them we were going to take the skirt to another Nordstrom on Long Island and call the customer assistance number, they said they would do it. Now if you know Nordstrom at all, you know that usually things like this don't happen. That is why we shop there, they love to take care of their customers. If I wanted to deal with issues like this I would shop at Bloomingdales. I love Nordstrom and will continue to be a customer, I will just avoid this Nordstrom if I can. read more

I bought a $2,220 bag with my boyfriend at this Nordstrom store and the lady and had such a mean face on and was rushing me and asking me if I was done as if I can make a decision in 5 minutes she looked like she dint want to be there had a attitude I asked her if she was upset and she told me she's tired no excuse I work in retail and give the best service I can and never treat customers that spend so much money the way she did she gave me a attitude the whole time while her and her coworker just kept staring I feel so disgusted she should be fired and for the guy who works in the booth for parking he was like 70 something telling my boyfriend he was lazy because he couldn't fit the card and totally kept insulting me and that's when I had enough and said this is your job and he couldn't reach and mind you my boyfriend is very respectful I felt so horrible here do not shop here it wasn't worth a hour ride to get insulted by people that hate there job. This is the Nordstrom that the Nordstrom Distribution Center forgets! Nordstrom, the Step-Child version!...Was there on a Sunday morning right after it opened (11:10 a.m.)...As usual, I didn't have to worry about spending wayyy toooo much money, as there were noooooo choices!...There was a very nice retail associate in Zella who was VERY helpful in facilitating my returns (one other associate didn't even know what Zella was!), but a horrible one in handbags (who, in the middle of "helping" me, ran to get a ringing phone - nice!)...Do yourself a favor, unless you're desperate to get out of the house, shop their website!
