Heading South on Route 266 passing cows, barns and houses you will see the small sign that you had arrived in the community of Norene and shortly after you will see the small Norene General Store, "A Wilson County Tradition". The store has a small kitchen/deli, a convenience store with drinks/beer, hardware and they have a gas pump outside the store. The ladies inside the store are very friendly. Local farmers seemed to come in and out and stop in for a while for a break or to maybe watch football on the TV inside.
We came here for lunch one day. The breakfast and lunch/dinner menu is written on a large chalkboard on two walls. They have burgers, cold/hot sandwiches, salads, specialty items, sides, and breakfast options like omelettes and biscuits. After you order from the kitchen you sit down at one of the tables inside the store and wait for them to bring it to you and then you pay afterwards at the register. For drinks you can grab a soda, tea or other drink from the refrigerated aisle. The boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of curly fries. This was a sizable amount and he said it was good. I got the chicken quesadilla which comes with a small serving of salsa and packets of sour cream. It was pretty big and I couldn't finish the whole thing. For a small kitchen with one person cooking it came out fairly quickly as well. I could see that if you came here with a group of people it may be a wait.
I like little places like this that are very much a part of the community. Although it is nothing fancy, the food is pretty good and the people are nice. The inventory is small but it can be a convenient place to drop in and grab any small grocery items as well for people that live in the area. read more
