This is my first stop in my quest to find the best cappuccino in the Aptos area: Coffee Flavor: weak Foam: reasonably stiff but not nearly enough Milk: way too much Temp: warm I don't really like scalding hot coffee drinks. NJs could stand to make theirs a bit hotter though. What they call a capp, I call a latte. If they used half the amount of milk and twice the amount of foam, they'd have a pretty good capp. Next time I'm here, I'll order mine dry, hot, extra foam. They make a pretty good breakfast burrito too: lots of egg, big chunks of ham, good cheddar. Be sure to get it with the salsa. It's the fire-roasted, pureed kind and it's very tasty. The young woman taking orders was immediately rude. She was rude through the entire ordering process. All you can do is laugh - baffling that someone one would be rude like that, for no apparent reason. We go there every other month or so. SERVICE: This is a place you walk into and the person at the counter smiles and greets you by name, your generally not in a hurry here and you wont be rushed around. This is a very relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy your time sipping hot coffee. Yet they can still get you your coffee in a jiffy if your in a rush! FOOD: For breakfast there's quiche, bagels burritos, and croissants as well as other pastries. Lunch options include sandwiches and salads. Excellent desserts fresh banana bread, fresh fruit, brownies, rice crispy treats... and many more. BEVERAGES: After all that's probably what your here for. Norma Jeans uses organic beans for all there delicious coffee drinks. I usually go for a mocha breve with whip cream and chocolate shavings which is super tasty and worth every calorie. They also make fantab-u-lous smoothies which my daughter can't resist. strawberry banana is her fav. p.s. you can buy the beans by the pound. I've tried the ham, turkey and chicken salad sandwiches. They are all fresh and delicious - old school style. The chicken salad is my favorite! I can eat that every day. I've also tried the breakfast burrito. It's different, in a good way. It tastes authentic, like someone actually cared about the flavor. And don't get me started on the carrot cake. I'm salivating just thinking about it. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I had a decaf cappuccino to see if their coffee is good. It was very good. I like Norma Jean's because it is casual and comfortable. And the free Wi-Fi is always available. That's very important. The prices are reasonable too. read more

This place is very cute and a nice place to just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while visiting. We did go on a rainy day so that may have been why it was so quiet. The coffee was good not the best I've ever had but it was made the way we wanted it. The lemon tarte was delicious. The breakfast burrito was alright nothing to write home about, but what you would expect I feel like for a coffee shop breakfast burrito. This is my favorite coffee shop to go to in Santa Cruz. I am extremely picky about my coffee: it needs to be hot enough, flavorful and strong enough. I have been going to Norma Jeans for years now and they never disappoint. On top of excellent coffee, they have out-of-this world homemade pastries, as well as outstanding breakfast and lunch options. Extremely tacky business practice...I just drove over the hill from Los Gatos... This was my first stop for a restroom and drink. The girl behind the counter said she didn't have the drink I wanted & wouldn't let me use the restroom unless I ordered something else. Really....?! I wouldn't have minded purchasing something but couldn't believe how rude she was about it. It's not like I'm some vagrant looking to shower in their restroom. I would have expected more from a cute establishment in a small town... They must be hurting for business, I wonder why? read more

Coffee here is amazing BUT the customer service is horrible! The girls behind the counter are to worries about there weekend plans and/or friends in the coffee shop. The girls in here need to be taught good customer service and I dont know if it is the owner but she is not very nice and has very little customer service skills or just chooses not to use her skills.. I received a certificate from a friend for my birthday. I came Friday 2:30PM. There was only 1 couple seated. I approached the cashier who was not friendly. I asked her a few questions about the certificate when she told me she didn't have time she need to hurry and abruptly asked me what I was ordering. I was not happy with her service but I figured I'd give the food a chance. I had a turkey sandwich and black tea. Both were very good. This review is solely about the owner, not the food/coffee itself. I have been coming here for as long as this place has been open. I lived right up the street most of my life, I could practically see the place from our deck. I would stop by here before catching the bus to school almost every day in high school, and would come here often to get coffee randomly. Of all the times I've been here, the owner has never once been kind. She has always been totally rude. I remember one particular incidence she forgot my order on a slow morning and I asked a few times about it after waiting 20+ min and she was so rude to me when I asked and would ignore me, and I ultimately ended up missing my bus because of it. After that I would rarely come here. Honestly I would prefer to support Starbucks across the street than support this rude woman. It had been a few years since I had come here but decided to stop by this morning to grab a coffee, and to my surprise she was rude as ever. Never coming back here again. read more

The food is ok. However the service and attention is really bad. We were one of two customers on a Saturday morning and the person taking the order was rude and insulting. She insisted that we had ordered sausage when we said bacon. Not a big deal since the order was not placed and the charge was not made. She wanted to be right and went out of her way to make us feel we were at fault. How difficult is to delete one item on the order and charge for another when you have not finish the transaction???? I love supporting local businesses and this is a good one. There is a Starbucks across the street, but I always come here. Great coffee, down home atmosphere, and yes, the decor is a little funky but that's why I love the vibe here. Totally different energy than the other place. This is my second visit here after several trips to Starbucks across the street, again trying to support a local business. This will be my last trip here. While the atmosphere is nice enough, and coffee decent, the service is incredibly slow. The clincher was that they have a $5 minimum charge on debit/credit cards. Businesses that employ this practice irk me to no end. Most people don't even carry cash anymore, I almost walked out. If you're going to take credit cards, you have to live with the fee that is charged to businesses and not pass it on to the customer. This is a chicken-$&@/ maneuver. read more

Came to Norma Jeans to get away from Starbucks. I love the hazelnut lattes. Breakfast food (bagels, burritos, scones) is good but pricey. Service is good, usually they are smiling. Brewing time (and bagel toasting time) is a little slow, but I'm not in a hurry when I come in anyway. read more

Been going here almost every day for the last 3 years.. I only get one drink, iced white mocha with a little shot of raspberry.. I mean there isn't another place on earth that makes this drink taste sooo good.. The pastries are the bomb too.. I'm spending from $135 to $300 a month here, more than worth it. It's..
