Dr. Chan is a wonderful doctor. He is young, smart and compassionate. He saw me right away and quickly came to an accurate diagnosis. He ordered the appropriate tests and got them approved by my insurance company. Then he followed through with after hours phone calls to let me know the results. Dr. Chan is the director of ENT at Queens Center Hospital. He works four days a week there and is at his new Chinatown practice office three days a week. He studied at Mount Sinai so he has connections with many excellent doctors that he can refer patients to. I felt like I was I excellent hands and would recommend Dr. Chan to anyone. read more

Went to see Dr. Chan based on his reviews. Dr. Chan walks into the examination room and immediately goes to his desk and starts clacking away on his gamer keyboard with his back turn toward me. While he's typing on his keyboard, he asked me what my situation was in a rude tone. I told him I had sleep apnea. No introduction, no eye contact. I thought maybe he was the assistant gathering information before the doctor arrives. Dr. Chan finally turns around from his monitor and I looked at this white lab coat and his name was on the coat. I was surprised, I've never had an experience with any doctors I visited with this type of initial interaction. I wasn't looking to be his friend but common courtesy and decency between a doctor and his patient isn't too much to ask when meeting for the first time. I guess he failed Bedside Manners 101 in medical school. It goes downhill from there. Dr. Chan has a habit of talking down to you. I asked him a couple of questions and it seems like my questions were trivial and I was wasting his time. Dr. Chan said my sleep apnea was probably due to acid reflux. I told him I never had any acid reflux problems before. Without verbally responding, he handed me a sheet of paper on how to deal with acid reflux. Finally, Dr. Chan said in order to know for sure if I have sleep apnea, I should go to a sleep center so they can monitor my sleeping habits. I innocently asked him if he knows of a sleeping center in the Lower East Side. His response was " How I'm I suppose to know?" By now I wanted to leave his office ASAP. He sets a date for a follow up visit and knowing in my mind, I would never return to his office. I don't under how he has so many positive reviews, Chatbots? We took my mother-in-law to this location one late afternoon, as a walk-in referral. My mother-in-law (and therefore we) had to wait two hours, so I would caution against visiting this place as a walk-in patient. The wait experience was frustrating, because the waiting room was generally empty except for us. Every time a new patient arrived, that patient would be shown in. The visit might have been a more pleasant experience if wait information was more transparent. If the staff had volunteered an estimate of how long our wait time would be, we could have chosen to make alternate plans and then return, instead of just sitting and waiting. That said, we noted that all patients with a scheduled appointment were seen in a timely manner. When the doctor finally saw my mother-in-law, the session happened at a relax rate, without time pressure. Doctor Chan was pleasant, and seemed quite competent. He took the time to re-check his work on my mother-in-law, and to answer all of our questions. In hindsight, it may be more prudent to make an appointment online (through ZocDoc or Yelp!), or by calling the doctor's office. The entrance to 202 Canal Street is on Mulberry Street, behind the bank. The floor shares well-maintained bathrooms with the other offices on the floor. This is a review for the office, NOT the doctor. My sister made an appointment with the doctor on zocdoc for 145pm. The office texted at 140pm to confirm appt and my sis realized that she might be late from the train so she texted the office and said she might be a bit late. The office texted back that it was ok. She eventually got to the office at 1:50pm so she was ONLY 5 minutes late to her appt. The front desk then asked her to cancel her appointment on zocdoc (cuz apparently the office gets charged by zocdoc).So my sister did them a favor and cancelled the zocdoc appointment on her phone. The chinese receptionists then made her sit and wait...and my sister ended up waiting OVER AN HOUR TO BE SEEN BY THE DOCTOR. The receptionists did not even try to explain or make an excuse about the delay. Other patients who came after her were seen by the doctor first. The girls started talking Cantonese amongst themselves about my sister thinking she didnt understand. While my sister was waiting, one of the receptionist girl said in cantonese "hasn't she waited for an hour already".The other girl replied "she was the one who was late. We cant delay other patients because of her"...my sister didnt see the doctor until 320pm. That's messed up. If they were gonna have a problem with my sister showing up 5 minutes late, they should've said something, rather than tell her that it was "no problem" when she texted to tell them she might be late...and I dont know why it was necessary for the receptionist to purposely tell the doctor that my sister didnt understand cantonese, when it was finally my sister's turn. Who is she to judge who knows cantonese or not. Just cuz she dont speak the language in front of you, dont mean she dont know the language. We'll give this guy a 3-star review. He's not personable or patient; I think he's also socially awkward given lack of eye contact and body language. The only expectation I have for any doctor I visit is for them to be an expert in their specialty, not looking for friendship. Dr. Chan seems to have all of the typical ENT protocols at his disposable. I came in for a recurring sore throat and he told me I should just rest it for a few weeks and drink fluids. I had high expectation for the doctor since he had some good reviews and the office seemed professional, but my visit there was one of the worst I've experienced. It's absolutely true that he talks down to you, and rather than admit he might not know the answer, would prefer to misdiagnose you to make himself look the expert. Let me explain.. though my chronic runny nose was due to structural changes to my nose after a corrective surgery (and not allergies as I've taken allergy tests and have tried the gamut of allergy medications), he nonetheless prescribed me yet another antihistamine (for allergies) and claimed I had acid reflux. I cannot fathom how he conjured up a diagnosis of acid reflux, and how that causes a runny nose! My mind then continued to be blown.. he proceeded to lecture me that the two cups of coffee and two cups of tea I drink was way too much caffeine (which are decaf and herbal, btw).. hence the acid reflux.. which somehow causes the chronic runny nose. Stay away unless you want to risk being seen by a doctor who is more concerned with his ego than helping his patients!! I have way more respect for someone who can admit to not having all the answers than a so-called expert who misdiagnoses patients out of either indifference or arrogance.. or both. read more

Unfortunately, I read all the great reviews on Dr. Chan's website and immediately made an appointment. Instead, I should have read the reviews on Yelp and other sources. For those of you who gave excellent reviews, are we even talking about the same doctor??? I left Dr. Chan's office speechless. I have never encountered a doctor with this kind of bedside manners! As a new patient, he never once made us feel comfortable during the visit and made us feel that it was a hassle to have us there. He didn't make a point to introduce himself, never made eye contact, became annoyed when I asked questions, used a condescending tone, and was not gentle in the way he used his instruments. I did not realize the visit was over until he just stopped talking and began to gather his file folder. With so many other ENTs out there, please don't waste your time and visit another doctor who has enough sense to be more empathetic, welcoming and one who makes the time to listen to your concerns instead of just typing loudly away on his computer with his back turned to you the whole time! I had issues with my nose for awhile now and started getting anxious. Made an appointment with the front desk easily and felt welcomed upon arrival. Dr. Chan took his time to explain what he thought was the issue after a thorough examination. I appreciated how Dr. Chan answered all my questions without me feeling rushed. The worst ENT doctor ever. Please do not go to him or take your kids or adult parents to see him. My 3 year old daughter was coughing all night due to post nasal drip. We went to see him in the morning and he did absolutely nothing. I even asked him to scope her and he claimed she's fine and she's clear. Of course she's clear, she's not laying down. Next day I took her to ENT and allergy and the doctor scoped her and saw that her adenoids were infected. If you have a kid coughing up a storm all night, that's not normal. I even recorded my child snoring and he did absolutely NOTHING. Just don't waste your time here and go somewhere else! read more

I booked an appointment based on the good reviews. However, our experience was TERRIBLE!!! The minute we walked into his office, he started throwing out questions like a robot while typing on his computer. No eye contact at all, pissed off tones, rolling his eyes when we didn't hear him clearly. (We came in for ear/hearing problems for Christ sake!!) I swear we were being so polite the whole time and didn't do anything to deserve this kind of treatment. We were new patients too so there's no bad history between us. From the second we started talking, we were already so nervous as if we did something wrong. While he was examining my ears, he was putting his metal tools in drawers and desk so passionately that the scene was intimidating. Idk what's the matter with this guy, but he 100% looks like he's very pissed off and irritated. We didn't get any diagnosis either. He just dismissed us with "I'm not sure what's going on". I left felt so degraded. We spent $140 to see him for about 10 minutes, had to be so careful about every word we speak to not piss him off more, and even got interrupted halfway through my question and ignored. I heard my voice shaking from anger and fear. That's insane! I just feel so sorry for this guy as a human being. I shouldn't have to count on him having a decent day to receive a respectful visit. I understand everyone has bad days. But to treat vulnerable patients like this for no reason? Shame on you! I hope your poor morale as a doctor gets you far in life. read more

Dr Chan is an absolute amazing doctor. I was in a bit of an emergency, had a piece of an earplug get lodged in my ear, and even worse- at the beginning of the long 4th of July weekend. He asked a lot of questions and listened to me attentively. Based on the interview, Dr. Chan carefully examed and scoped me to confirmed that I am suffering from gastric reflux. Literally the worst experience I have ever had at a doctor's office. He was just incredibly rude, impatient, and unprofessional from start to finish. My mom visited him twice alone and she told me this doctor has no patience. She is 68 years old but healthy. When I asked her how was her 2nd visit and she couldn't tell me exactly what the doctor told her. So the following day I called the doctor's office and spoke to the receptionist if the doctor can call me when he has a chance so I can ask him directly in regards to my mom's case. Well he called me back and briefly explained to me within 1 minute and he told me "DON'T CALL HIM HE IS EXTREMELY BUSY AND I SHOULD COME WITH HER IF I AM CONCERN..." I never heard from a doctor to tell the patient's family not to call him because he's busy!! Fine so on the 3rd visit I went with my mom this time. He did not introduce himself to me or say hello when he walks in. That's fine so he did a test on my mom in a very quick way and I can tell he has zero patience and in a hurry. When I asked him a question, he said "YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO WHAT I JUST SAID..." That was very rude and he had an attitude. If I understand clearly I would not be asking you!! Ok we finished in less than 10 minutes. When he walks out the room, I said to him "BY THE WAY YOU TOLD ME ON THE PHONE THAT I SHOULD NOT CALL YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE EXTREMELY BUSY...THAT IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL TO SAY FROM A DOCTOR". I had been meaning to go to a Doctor but was having a problem due to Virus 19 closing down many offices. I went on line and googled eye,ear, nose and throat , Dr . Norman Chan MD came up. I read all the information he had posted and noted his location was very close to where I live (walking distance) so I called , got an appointment for the next day. His building is one of newer one and has many doctors in it. got off elevator ws right in from of office. Very clean office. I went in and filled out forms, there were two other people there but I waited only 15 minutes , then he came out and called me. We started talking I had made a list of what I thought might be wrong with ear. He told me those were not right and what he thought was right. He ws right. I did as he told me and in a few days I no longer had the problem. I just went for 2nd visit and I am very happy with this doctor. He takes time with you , really cares, just what a doctor should be. read more

Went to see the doctor because I had a nasal congestion. He gave me some medicine and told me to come back in 2 weeks. The medicine helped me. When I went back the doctor asked me what I wanted to do next. That was a ridiculous question. He is the doctor and he is supposed to tell me what I should do next. He wound up doing nothing on the second visit. The office staff is not very competent in dealing with insurance claims. When I finished my second visit the woman at front desk told me that I had to pay a higher fee than normal because I did not meet my deductible. I told that this is not correct. She said that if the insurance tell her that it is not correct she will give me a refund. After one month I did not hear from her but my insurance company sent me a letter showing that I should have paid a lower amount. I called the doctor's office and the woman who answered the phone said that she will look into the matter and if necessary give me a refund. It is now 2 weeks later and no one called me and I still don't have a refund. I will not visit this doctor again. read more
