This is one of the most poorly run community centers I've encountered. The volunteers, who seem to be privileged Arcadian kids, don't make the space feel kid-friendly at all. If there's any joy to be found here, they certainly take it out. They lack basic manners and respect for the community. It seems like the only activity allowed is slow walking--no power walking, just a leisurely grandma pace. Also, they ban cameras inside, but I took mine outside, which technically isn't against the rules. In my opinion, this place could use a serious attitude adjustment, starting with learning how to create a more welcoming environment. Not friendly not family friendly sorry for Arcadian who have this is a community center to show for total joke

Pretty decent outdoor swimming pool. The main problem with this place is that it's really difficult to get details on the schedule. Often times you can call them and if it's off hours, they won't pick up. The only problem is, there's no reliable way to find out the correct hours! Luckily for you, the reader of this review, I did manage to reach them and find out some details for LAP SWIM (and I took some photos of the signage on the front door) Current Lap Swim schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hours are 4pm to 6pm. You need to pay online for an entrance fee. (It's on the reservations lacounty gov website) That's right, there is only a 2 hour window for lap swim right now, and only three days of the week. They are currently only known to be open for the summer season, which runs until August 20th. After that, they may close again, or change the schedule or something. Additionally, there is some signage that indicates wider hours and days, but I think it's signage for swimming pools across LA County, and each pool has their own schedules (like the one I just listed)

Attention parents! : save this info SPLASH PAD IS OOEN STARTING ON JUNE 20 SPLASH PAD WILL OPEN MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAYS ONLY. It's frustrating to see ten signs on the door and all Of them Are super confusing. Hope this helps so you don't go on a wrong day like we did.

    Gated pool.

Nice clean pool in the summer for swim lessons and other water activities. Clean locker rooms.

New in 2016 Free Swim: Wristband to enter the big pool.

[For Free Swim Only] If you're scared off by all the negative reviews, great! Move along to some other facilities, and that means more swimming space for the rest of us. Free Swim hours are: M-F 12:00 - 1:30 Sa-Su 12:00 - 5:00 Last day of Summer Free Swim is Labor Day. As you enter the building, you can get changed in the shower rooms on either side, men on one side, and women on the other, of course. You can then check in all your belongings with the staff, and only enter the pool with what you're wearing. No shoes, no flipflops, no towels, and you must rinse off before entering the pool area. Pool is exceptionally clean, and there are lifeguards everywhere to monitor the swimmers. There is a splash zone for toddlers/kids, a youth pool, and a regular sized pool for diving and lap swimmers. Adjacent to the splash zone, there IS a modest seating area with tents, so parents can watch their kids play. To enter the bigger pool, you must find a lifeguard, usually wearing red shorts and a white T-shirt, and ask to take a "swim test." This requires you to swim from one end of the youth pool to the other and back, unassisted. Freestyle swim is preferred. The second part of the swim test requires you to enter the big pool and tread/kick water unassisted for 10 seconds. Basically, you must demonstrate your ability to stay afloat. Once you passed these two "tests," you will be given a disposable wristband on the spot, which acts as your pass to access the big pool. The wristband is for THAT DAY only. Test must be taken every time you come to the facility and wish to access the big pool. Other than that, great swimming facility and professional staff all around. Just follow the rules of common courtesy, and nobody would have the time to single you out and yell at you. One star off for causing me to see a middle-aged dude prancing around the pool with his super tight speedo bikini on. Two sizes too small, and that is just something I can not unseen.

I've had memberships here off and on over the past 6 years - definitely my fave Y in the SGV!! Their pool is enormous!! I love to swim here - especially now with their new reservation system. They have 4 swim lanes available with room for 2 swimmers in each lane - and you make timed reservations via their app. Super easy to use and you can block out 30 minute increments as available in each lane with no limit to how long you want to swim. Upon check in, you'll receive a wristband with your times and lane numbers - so helpful in avoiding conflicts! This is far superior to their pre-pandemic process where lap swim was a free-for-all and insanely crowded - I couldn't ever get a lane which was one reason I stopped going. But that's all fixed now - I LOVE their new system! They also have a huge basketball gym, extensive weight room with nautilus machines and free weights, a ballroom/classroom, and a treadmill room that includes bikes, ellipticals and a stair master. They have weekly classes you can also sign up for - also very easy to do in their app. They don't have as many class offerings as they used to though - but I think they're all still trying to get things back up and running again from the pandemic. This location doesn't offer personal trainers yet - but I was told they will soon if there's enough interest. But your membership includes access to all the area YMCA locations and they offer PT services at the nearby Sierra Madre & South Pas locations. They have 3 locker rooms - one for men only, one for women only, and one for "families with small children". The one for families is limited to children under a certain age and nudity is forbidden. The other two include rules for children over a certain age (I think it was 12-13 but I can't remember) and nudity is allowed (showers and changing etc). The staff are all just awesome here - so helpful and friendly! Prices are very reasonable- especially compared to all the other gyms in the area - I've been shopping around for general gym services with a pool and personal trainer for several months now and the prices here beat all the others. They have tons of parking.

After team practice, he has a 30-minute dryland session, followed immediately by private swim training. For the past several weeks, he's been allowed to re-enter the pool area without waiting in the general line, which makes sense due to the tight timing. If we were warned that it was against the policy, we would have not done this. But today, a staff member named Sara (who did not give her last name) suddenly yelled at him as he walked in, insisting that he go back outside and wait in the long public line. We explained that his private training is only 30 minutes, and waiting 15+ minutes would waste half the session. We offered to follow the rule next time, saying we'd have a parent wait in line on his behalf--but she still refused and wouldn't make a one-time exception. What bothered me most was not just the rigid enforcement of a rule--but her attitude. As a city employee, Sara was harsh, dismissive, and showed zero empathy for a child trying to follow his training schedule. It felt unnecessarily personal, and frankly, we couldn't help but feel targeted--possibly because we're Chinese. In today's social climate, it's hard not to notice when someone goes out of their way to make life difficult for no good reason. We understand policies are in place for a reason. But government staff--especially those working with kids and families--should be trained to enforce them with basic courtesy and common sense. Yelling at a 10-year-old and refusing to understand and work with parents trying to cooperate is not how a public facility should treat its community.

Our child is particularly sensitive and anxious in the water, and likely needed a more tailored, confidence-based approach. We made an effort to encourage her to push through and stay consistent with the program. However, during that time her discomfort increased, and she became more resistant to participating in lessons--to the point where we were close to discontinuing classes altogether. We later had two or three makeup sessions with Stephanie, during which we observed clear and immediate improvement. After switching our regular schedule to a more suitable day for us and having Stephanie as the permanent instructor, the progress accelerated significantly. In less than a month, our child became noticeably more comfortable in the water. She no longer shows the same level of fear. This is not a reflection on the previous instructor's ability, but rather a difference in fit and teaching approach. The connection and method used by Stephanie have proven to be more effective for our child's needs. There was a recent comment from staff noting that our child does not meet Level 3 criteria. While we understand that evaluations follow established standards, our primary goal is water safety, confidence, and functional swimming ability. From that perspective, the progress made in the past month is substantial and meaningful, especially compared to the prior seven months, and it's largely thanks to Stephanie. Overall, we value the measurable improvement in our child's comfort and capability in the water.
